I love how The Long Goodbye Job cons the viewer. Sure, Nate is telling the lie to an interrogator, but it's shown to the viewer in flashbacks. It looks exactly like a plausible con they'd pull off.
But there is foreshadowing of what's really going on. Parker realizing that Nate's grooming her to become a mastermind type herself (hinting at Nate's intention to retire after this job). Sophie's performance in Macbeth is very similar to the one she gave in the pilot episode because that's the performance Nate is actually recalling - the costume she's wearing looks almost exactly the same, if it isn't the same, as the one she wore in the pilot. Nate makes a very obvious and unlike him mistake with the radios...
And of course they're not gonna kill off 4/5 of the main cast before the episode is even halfway over.
Every time I see Eliot, Parker, and Hardison holding hands in the back of the van during the chase scene all I can think of is that post talking about how Nate must have been emphasizing how they were all holding hands back there before they died. Gotta really make that super clear. They died holding hands. All three of them. (Right before Nate and Sophie hold hands to drive off the bridge together, and they're in love too...)
The slow reveal of what the real con was is so good. The alternate theory flashback that gets slowly a bit closer to the truth...
Nate revealing how he knows he isn't in the hospital after all, but is actually still in the Highpoint Tower. Right where he wants to be.

Every Lacuna Coil album ranked from worst to best
9. Shallow Life (2009)
Lacuna Coilâs fifth album was meant to be a critique on superficiality, but it fell flat musically. Missing the nu metal crunch of predecessor Karmacode and stripped of the opulence that characterised the bandâs earlier material, Shallow Life meanders. Though itâs not a complete car crash (Spellbound is an obvious standout), itâs slim pickings.
8. Dark Adrenaline (2012)
Dark Adrenaline isnât a terrible album; itâs just an unremarkable one. Meaty opener Trip The Darkness and a cinematic Intoxicated provide the highpoints amongst more generic, forgettable fare. Thereâs still little here we havenât heard from the band before, however â plus that truly horrible cover of R.E.M.âs Losing My Religion misses the mark in every way.Â
7. Broken Crown Halo (2014)
By the time Lacuna Coil released their seventh album, it felt like they had made the same statement at least three times in a row. The last release to feature the long-term members Cristiano âPizzaâ Migliore  (guitars) and Cristiano âCrizâ Mozzati (drums), Broken Crown Halo packs more grit and punch than predecessor Dark Adrenaline (Cybersleep and frequent set-closer Nothing Stands In Our Way are the highlights). Yet, thereâs still no doubt by this point: the band were treading water.Â
6. In A Reverie (1999)
Dreamy, doomy and gothic, Lacuna Coilâs debut has aged very well. Circle, To Myself I Turned and Glass Veins have lost none of their majesty and, while the Italiansâ approach at this point is clearly indebted to Paradise Lost and The Gatheringâs 1995 album Mandylion, Cristina and Andreaâs serene/raw vocal attack set this bunch apart right from the start. A promising beginning.
5. Karmacode (2006)
By the mid-2000s, Lacuna Coil had nailed their ethereal goth ways. So, it was a surprise when they changed gears with fourth album Karmacode, introducing a more mainstream, chunky, nu metal-flavoured sound with focus on melody. The move sacrificed much of their splendour and atmospherics, and tracks like The Game and Closer feel a tad too simplistic, but elsewhere, the band proved they had mastered a hook. Their excellent cover of Depeche Modeâs Enjoy The Silence broke them to an even bigger audience, too.
4. Unleashed Memories (2001)
Lacuna Coilâs second album is an elegant, slow-burning gem. You need to work a little harder to get under the surface of these songs, but once you do, thereâs an abundance of gorgeous charms to discover. From the sumptuous and dignified Heir Of A Dying Day to a towering To Live Is To Hide, the still very Paradise Lost-influenced When A Dead Man Walks to the ornate Cold Heritage, the band were evolving at pace.
3. Delirium (2016)
In their post-Karmacode period, Lacuna Coil had settled into a safe, predictable groove. Then, with eighth album Delirium, they changed their methodology once again. On its release, tracks like Broken Things and Blood, Tears, Dust were dark and dripping with claustrophobic tension. They were startlingly heavy as well, helped in no small part by vocalist Andrea Ferro putting in some of his best guttural vocals to date. Foreboding, haunted and cold, it was the sound of a band renewed. Â
2. Black Anima (2019)
Lacuna Coilâs most recent album finds them in fantastic form. Picking up where Delirium left off, the band have only continued to get heavier, leaving the generic, featherlight melodies of their mid-career slump far behind. Packed with atmosphere and highlights in Sword Of Anger and Layers Of Time, itâs not as stark as its predecessor, while the Exorcist vibes of Veneficium are definitely something they should lean into in the future. Whereas Cristinaâs piercing vocals are dependably great, pushing her voice to new height on Reckless, the biggest surprise is Andrea,: unrecognisable from the bandâs early days, his bowel-rattling vocals takes the bandâs stylings to an ever more twisted realm.
1. Comalies (2002)
Comalies is the moment everything came together for Lacuna Coil in terms of aesthetics and sound, but also songwriting, which took everything up a notch. It was led by two excellent singles: the celestial Swamped and Heavenâs A Lie â which marries an earworm chorus with glossy, apocalyptic grandeur â and broke the band on MTV.
The opus is also a trove of emotionally-charged gems, with Daylight Dancer, Humane, Tight Rope and Entwined all deserving a place on a countdown of the bandâs best songs. In 2022, Lacuna Coil celebrated the albumâs 20th anniversary by rearranging and re-recording it for a retrospective, Comalies XX, adding a heavier, more ferocious slant to the tracklist. It couldnât hold a candle to the original, though, which remains a goth metal classic â not to mention the bandâs undisputed masterpiece.Â

It's a difficult question because of how different the two eras are: If you want idiosyncratic individualistic artistic freedom of expression, then the 1970s was possibly the highpoint of all cinema, whereas if you want magic and transportative fantasy, it's hard to beat the 1980s.
It's impossible to imagine Ghostbusters and Splash and Back To The Future and E.T. and Aliens and Terminator and Blade Runner and The Thing and The Fly and Videodrome and WarGames and Robocop and The Princess Bride and so many others being made in the 1970s.
But then it's almost as hard to imagine Get Carter and Taxi Driver and Apocalypse Now and Harold & Maude and The French Connection and The Godfather and The Conversation and Nashville and Clockwork Orange and The Wicker Man and Catch 22 and The Deer Hunter and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and Chinatown and Don't Look Now and Badlands and Phantom of The Paradise and The Last Picture Show and Cabaret and The Rocky Horror Picture Show being made any other decade, either.
I always think of the 1980s as a last resurgence of the old studio system: the dream factory pumping out a rigorously maintained and high quality - if a little dumbed down and bland - entertainment product, and this was a direct response to the stoned excesses of the anything-goes seventies, which eventually collapsed after box office flops like Heaven's Gate and One From The Heart.
You know, it strikes me right now that we may see a sea-change comparable to that again, after the massive flop after flop after flop of all the woke propaganda films the past few years: maybe the business suits will purge all the talentless hacktivists the way they purged all the ivory-towered auteurs, and get back to making dazzling, heartfelt, rewarding and lovable fantasy films? We can only hope.
To directly answer the question, I guess there are more films I personally love from the 1980s than the seventies, and despite all the repugnant yuppie greed, I still prefer the general coked-up wonder and positivity of that decade more than the grimily-depressed paranoia of the one before it.
It should be remembered, though, in both decades, the great majority of films being made were mediocre rubbish, just for usually different reasons.
And also, as the Rabbis say, there's good wine in every generation.
Movie questions?

For @tvarchiveâs TV Appreciation Week Day 7: Â the TV show with the best ending
Season 5 episode 15 âThe Long Goodbye Jobâ | Leverage
Not actually designed as a series finale, but designed by showrunners who gave each season a rounded ending in case of an unplanned cancellation, the Leverage finale ties both the season and the overarching series goal up in a bow. There are references to the first episode, satisfying character beats that are the culmination of well-written development over 5 seasons, and one helluva bait-and-switch for the audience from a show famous for them. Even though the show ended in cancellation after a 5 season run, this finale is incredibly satisfying while being open-ended enough to leave room for Leverage: Redemption ten years later. In fact, the sequel show is likely going to be the only one to measure up so far as finales go, in my opinion.

Her brow is furrowed in thought, and she looks up to say â18 miles an hour.â The caption continues with the rest of her sentence âIs that what you got?â directed at Nate behind her off-screen. The caption is in white.

How do you think jonsa reunion going to be? To be honest I am scared for Sansa meeting resurrected Jon. It will not be his fault bcoz of the circumstances. Also in original outline Jon refuse to help Arya at first bcoz of benjen. Jon at first refuse Gilly n Alys maybe he will refuse Sansa at first but then reconsider.
Hi anon!
Well, Jon already refused to help the actual Arya right in the published text.
His reaction to learning of her betrothal to Ramsay in ADWD, Jon VI is to tell himself that he can't do anything.
By now sheâd be eleven, Jon thought. Still a child. âI have no sister. Only brothers. Only you.â Lady Catelyn would have rejoiced to hear those words, he knew. That did not make them easier to say. His fingers closed around the parchment. Would that they could crush Ramsay Boltonâs throat as easily.
Clydas cleared his throat. âWill there be an answer?â
Jon shook his head and walked away. (ADWD, Jon VI)
He is conflicted about it, but he also tries to fight away the thought of Arya's suffering until Melisandre uses the news as a hook for her girl in grey prophecy, in order to win Jon's trust. And even her prophecy doesn't compel Jon to act, even after Mel proves the power of her visions. This is his response:
âYou have not asked about your sister,â Melisandre said, as they climbed the spiral steps of the Kingâs Tower.
âI told you. I have no sister. We put aside our kin when we say our words. I cannot help Arya, much as Iââ (ADWD, Melisandre)
It's not until Melisandre suggests sending Mance, that Jon agrees to do it, because it's a way for him to act and avoid breaking his vows.
He doesn't attempt to break his vows at all until the Pink Letter, which reveals that the girl he believes to be Arya has already escaped. It's not about saving Arya at all, Ramsay no longer has his bride. It's about Ramsay's threats to Jon himself and the Watch.
(So much for the jonrya's insistence that "he died for Arya".)
If you compare that Arya ran straight into danger trying to save Gendry from captivity by the Mountain's soldiers, Jon comes off pretty disappointing. That there is the original outline Jon who refuses to help his sister.
Considering that by this point Jon has been stabbed and will likely be living in very different circumstances by the time Sansa makes it North. I think their actual reunion will be primarily positive, an emotional highpoint in the series. Jon is unlikely to be hindered by vows to try and help her (or Rickon) and he will be more than ready to stand up for his family. The conflict between them is probably going to be of a different nature, characterized by the developing romantic relationship, the revelation of Jon's identity and the whole of the Northern succession crisis. Not to mention the pressure of the Others.
I also suspect he will make amends, so to speak, at a later point when protecting his family may run counter to considerations of vows and honor. And the actual Arya is likely to be central there.

concern for a friend
(week #1, prompt 3: excitement)
tw: mentions of derealisation, panic
Summary: Ranboo is working on the watchtower, as Ghostbur wanders off as the self-designated snack man. When the ghost doesn't return for quite some while, Ranboo is starting to worry for his friend. Just where is Ghostbur?Â
__
âI will be the snack man and get us some snacks. You work on that tower real good and Iâll get us something, alright? Do you like savory or sweet things? You know what, Iâll just get a bit of everything. Iâll be right back, oki?âÂ
Before Ranboo has a chance to react, Ghostbur is up and running in the direction of Tommyâs dirt shack. Dusting off his pants from the climb, the ghost waves enthusiastically from the top of the hill, then disappears behind some trees and shrubbery. Ranboo releases a sigh, smiling fondly at the antics of the ghost. He gets out a stack of spruce logs and starts building up the pillars to the skies. He wonders why Tommy needs the watchtower to be this tall. Surely, it would have been enough if it was one or two thirds of its current height, itâs not like none of them have tridents. Heâs pretty sure most of them have access to enderpearls as well.Â
Nonetheless, he keeps to the height given by Tommy, diligently placing the spruce logs and replacing the strange purple planks at the sides with dark oak instead. It wonât be the prettiest watchtower, but itâll be enough. Maybe Ghostbur can improve its design.
Speaking of the ghost, heâs been gone for quite a while now. Ranboo knows that he is more than capable of taking care of himself. But then he thinks of the ghostâs memory issues and his own problems with keeping himself tethered to the real world sometimes, blinking the wrong way and suddenly finding himself in an unfamiliar place. Itâs happened one too many times for the enderman hybrid to be quite comfortable with this situation. (If Tubbo hadnât found him that one time, he doesnât know what would have happened. He doesnât like to think about it.)
Ranboo begins to pack up his things, putting away the spruce logs in a chest and strapping his sword and axe to his back instead. Tommy will forgive him if the tower isnât finished by tomorrow. He hadnât given him a deadline, anyway.
He begins his journey up the hill, rounding the trees and shrubbery he saw Ghostbur disappear behind a couple hours ago and following the path towards Tommyâs abode. He keeps an eye on his surroundings and mentally takes note of anything that appears out of place. The air gets significantly colder, as the last rays of the sun disappear behind the horizon. It was getting late. He adjusts the leather straps of his weapons.
âGhostbur?â, Ranboo calls out, knocking at the wooden door of Tommyâs shack. No answer. He opens the door with a creak and looks inside. There are some chests along the wall, a few of them placed smack in the middle of the place. He can hear the vrwooping sounds of an enderchest nearby, but no humming of a particularly musical ghost. He takes a step inside and makes his way down the stairs on the right, but nothing. The place is empty.Â
He leaves the dirt shack behind and runs down the prime path, frantically turning his head from side to side, in the hopes that he spots the yellow of Ghostburâs sweater or the red of his beanie. But no such luck.
âGhostbur?!!â Ranboo starts calling the ghostâs name, noting how eerily empty and abandoned this place is. He spends all his time in the Arctic Commune or, more recently, in Snowchester, so heâs never stayed here long enough to notice, but this place feels dead. He can feel something crawl up his arms, shooting through his hands and making him shake them violently.Â
âGhostbur, where are you?!â He sends out a quick message to his friend, but thereâs no response. Something isnât right. The ghost should have responded by now. One might think that he would lose his communicator often, with his spotty memory and his clumsy tendency to lose most other things. But heâs actually never lost it and he always answers.Â
âItâs fine, heâs fine. He probably just got fixated on a flower or went overboard on the snacks. He gets over-excited like that,â Ranboo reasons, taking the path down towards LâManhole. The glass, preserving what was never meant to be, reflects the darkening sky above. He keeps a wide distance to the blown-up city, eyeing the red vines at its edges with worry. He sees neither yellow nor any red nor any blue, so he turns around and leaves the dead space to its own.
âGhostbur??â Why isnât he answering?! Night has fallen completely by now, the new moon trying its hardest to plunge Ranbooâs surroundings in complete darkness, but he just takes out a torch and lights the matchstick with a practiced flick of his wrist against the ground.Â
The half-enderman roams the perimeters around Eretâs museum, focusing his hearing towards the near distance. Besides the undead groaning of zombies and the quiet clattering of skeletons, he canât make out much more. Except for a quiet hiss. He barely has time to react, as he hears an explosion go off in the distance. Before he knows it, he is up and running in that direction. Images of a hurt Ghostbur, running through his brain. âGhostbur!!âÂ
And then, he hears yelling and noises that sounds like sobbing and it makes him vwroop in panic and distress. His friend is in danger, his friend is in danger. He feels a lurch in his stomach and blinks across the field, reappearing at the steps of Eretâs museum. Doesnât Eret usually spawn-proof his builds? Doesnât matter right now. Ranboo runs up the steps, skipping the last flight, as he blinks out and appears in the middle of the build. Not here. Further away, beyond the wall. He takes out his trident and places some water, jumping the wall.Â
During the highpoint of his jump, he can make out yellow and red and a lot of blue just beyond the river. He lets out a series of distressed noises and blinks away. His hands are starting to shake from jumping this often, but his friend is hurt, hurt, hurt and he has to hurry.Â
He stumbles through his landing and tridents across the river, landing close to what is definitely Ghostbur hunched over, surrounded by blue, why is there so much blue?!! âGhostbur??â He tentatively reaches for his friend and touches his shoulder lightly. The ghost snaps his head up, staring at the enderman hybrid. He flinches back in shock, blinking away a few metres further.
âRanboo!!â, the ghost calls out, jumping from his position on the ground. âOh my goodness, I must have totally lost track of the time. You see, I was walking along the prime path, looking for some snacks when I saw- oh, the snacks, Ranboo! I totally forgot about the snacks!! â The ghost pats down his pants, then shuffles through the bag at his side. âSorry, bread is all I have on me. You want some?â Ghostbur offers some fluffy bread rolls, but Ranboo is too stunned to react. Adrenalin is still running high in his bloodstream, making him tense and freeze up. What is happening?Â
âNot a fan of bread rolls? Oh well, more for me and friend- oh my gosh, Ranboo, look who I found in the woods!!â Getting off-track again, Ghostbur whirls around and pulls something blue and fluffy towards the perplexed enderman. âI found friend!! He was just grazing on some grass and when he saw me, I saw that look in his eyes that told me that I should follow him and so I did! I donât quite understand why he brought me here, this just seems like a normal clearing to me, but I mean, I trust him, he knows what heâs doin-â The excited rambles of the ghost are cut off by the heavy weight of two hands on his shoulders. He looks up and is met with the shiny wet eyes of a certain enderman hybrid. âRanboo? Whatâs wrong?â, come the soft questions, as the ghost realizes that something must be wrong.
âPlease never do that again.â
âNever do what again, Ranboo? I was just getting some snacks like I told you when I met an old friend, haha-â
âI understand that you are more than capable of taking care of yourself, but you have to understand that you didnât return for hours and hours until the sun set.â Ranboo takes a shuddering breath. âYou didnât return and you didnât respond to my messages and then I heard an explosion go off in the distance and then I saw all that blue and I thought you got hurt and I-â His tail flicks nervously from side to side, thumping against the ground every now and then in distress.
âRanboo, Ranboo. Listen, listen, Iâm sorry. I didnât realise that it was getting this late. I got distracted by friend and didnât look at my communicator for a while.â The ghost takes out a light blue rock from his bag and hands it to the other. âHere, this will calm you down. Take some blue.â
âThanks, Ghostbur.â

Eagle Peak, Victoria Peak & Robinson Peak from Buckeye Trailhead
With the California fire wilderness closures being extended on a weekly basis, I had a limited area of accessible wilderness to access. Hoover wilderness remained open, so I planned a visit to Eagle Peak, a Sierra Nevada P2k that I first viewed on my early ascents of Matterhorn Peak. My dad was celebrating his 65th birthday at the family cabin in Twain Harte, so I decided to spend the night there and make a day trip out of it. I arrived at the trailhead around first light, then began up the road prior to sunrise. Even though it was hunting season, I didn't see another soul the whole day.
The route starts off as a road following Eagle Creek up the canyon. I reached a corral after 2 miles and the road transitioned into a dusty trail.
I was in awe of the fall colors.
The trail forked in many different places, and I tried to stay on the most defined option. Most, if not all, of these forks were cow trails. Pines began to replace the aspens as I gained elevation. After 4 miles, I reached a tributary feeding Eagle Creek. There was a well defined cow trail heading up this canyon, so I decided to follow it. This was not the standard route, but it was an alternate option that worked just as well. I aimed to climb the northeastern slopes of the peak following a gully all the way to the summit.
The trail disappeared and reappeared several times. It is probably best to stay on the right side of the creek and be patient with the gradual elevation gain. In my exploration I crossed the creek several times, one time sinking ankle deep into the mud.
The creek forks again at around 9,600 ft. I took the left fork, still finding some light use trails taking me where I needed to go.
The use trails dissipated shortly after, but terrain was easy enough. The cliffs of Eagle Peak stood in front of me. There was one steep, loose section that I had to surmount. I aimed for the lightly defined gully.
I slowly made my way up this unpleasant patch, but this section wasn't very long, and once beyond I had the worst of my day in the rearview mirror.
I snuck up on a giant snow hare. I had last seen these on a late fall climb of Cloudripper, and I was again impressed by their large size. I had enough time to snap a photo before it bolted.
Slopes became easier again. There was a light breeze and all smoke seemed to linger in the lower elevations, leaving me bluebird skies.
The summit stood dead ahead, and I felt relieved knowing that my alternate route would end up working out quite well.
The last section of the climb was a bit of a slog, but I eventually made it to the summit 4 hours after starting out. It was incredibly windy so I took shelter behind some summit rocks.
To the northwest was Walker Mountain and Hanging Valley Ridge.
To the north were Buckeye Valley and Rickey Peak. Beyond that were the Sweetwater Mountains.
To the northeast was the town of Bridgeport.
To the southeast was Dunderberg Peak.
To the south was the northern border of Yosemite.
To the southwest was Victoria Peak.
Further to the west was Tower Peak.
I had considered visiting Victoria Peak as a bonus peak, but it was so windy that I had second thoughts. I then recalled Bob Burd's trip report.
"I had plans to continue southwest to Victoria Peak, little more than a mile away, but the strong winds gave me pause. It was blowing quite strongly and I was having trouble keeping warm and I was almost ready to call it quits and head down. But something made me continue on, and I was glad of it because the winds diminished some even as I started to descend from the nearly 12,000-foot highpoint."
This was enough to convince me to go for it, and I'm glad I did because the exact same thing happened to me. The wind almost immediately vanished, and I had a pleasant walk along an easy ridge towards the next peak.
This bonus peak didn't have much prominence, meaning I didn't have to drop too far down to a saddle. It was mostly an easy ridge walk, with one obstacle along the way that I had to hike down and around.
It took me only a half hour to reach Victoria Peak from Eagle Peak.
I found the views to the northwest most impressive, however up to this point, none of those peaks were on my hiking radar.
To the west was Hunewill Peak.
To the southwest were Cirque Mountain, Crown Point, Slide Mountain and Kettle Peak.
To the southeast was the Sawtooth Ridge.
I didn't spend much time on the summit because views were more or less similar as on Eagle Peak. I turned my focus to Robinson Peak, which from this higher vantage point looked quite diminutive when compared to the perspective from Twin Lakes below.
I made my way down easy slopes and found cliffs in front of me. I followed the cliffs until reconnecting with the ridgeline that took me down towards the saddle connecting the two peaks.
I crossed some creeks and meadows, trying to find a way to the base of Robinson Peak that minimized elevation change. I then followed the western ridge to the summit, avoiding the patches of trees when necessary.
I made it to the summit at 12:30pm, just in time to have lunch. Down below was Annett's Mono Village and the Horse Creek Falls Trailhead.
To the south was Matterhorn Peak, the northernmost Sierra Emblem Peak.
Alongside Matterhorn Peak stood The Dragtooth, The Doodad, Cleaver Peak and the other teeth that make up the Sawtooth Ridge.
To the southwest was Robinson Canyon.
To the northwest were Victoria and Eagle Peaks.
To the north was my ascent canyon.
I had some service on the summit so I sent out a few texts while I ate lunch. I was ahead of schedule, and I estimated I would be back at the car by around 3. The northern slopes of Robinson Peak were wide open and easy to descend.
-Eagle Peak
-Fire Ring
Once down in the canyon, I followed a series of use trails until I was back on the main path.
Once on the "standard route", I zoned out and enjoyed the nice temperature and beautiful autumn colors.
I reached my car before 3pm, which meant I would be back in Twain Harte for dinner with my parents. After dinner, I continued my drive home, eager to see Leif and Asaka.
