Free Typesetting Template (Letter Folio)

So while I try to get some designs set, I thought I'd clean up and share the template I use for typesetting!

Templates save lots of time, and let me keep 'tools' where I like 'em. Free template here on my google drive ✨.

(As with all my stuff, Personal Use Only!) This file is for Affinity Publisher ONLY. I highly recommend getting Affinity Publisher if you're doing a lot of typesets and want a high degree of control over details. It has most of the features of Indesign, and far more capabilities than Word or Google Docs. There is a learning curve at the start, but overall it is a great program for typesetting and is a one time purchase, versus a subscription like other services. Please note, this template is set for my own personal preferences, and I always adjust it according to the text I'm working on. You can make whatever changes you want to suit it to your needs; I just included the normal settings I tend to use. See below the break for template details! (How to use/notes)*

This template is sized for half letter pages.

140% Leading, 11pt Font Size (Body Text)

The baseline grid is set for these exact preferences. If using a different font size/leading, I change these to match and play with the text boxes for 'Master Body' to make them look nice.

The template has the text boxes set up for where I usually insert text, copy, and headers/footers. I usually fill these out with the relevant details, and adjust the placements and sizes as needed.

I put X down where I usually write my name/imprint. The copyright page has a lot of blank space because I like to include my personal logos on there.

Main text gets copied and pasted into page 9, then flows into the rest of the pages.

The paragraph and character styles I use are all included.

Very important, after pasting in your text, go to Find and Replace, and turn all italics to 'Emphasis' character style to preserve them.

'Body Divider' is how I include dinkuses.

'Special' paragraph styles are for when texts have things like letters or songs included.

Typically, I use 'Chapter Heading' + 'Chapter Character' for chapter titles, and set a table of contents on page 7 using these settings.

You'll notice that on page 9 I have a text box that links into the Master Body pages. This is my sort of 'test' page for chapter titles. I can freely change the size and layout on this specific page. I move it around based on what design I come up with, then copy that design into my 'Master Chapter Heading' spread to apply to the rest of the chapter title pages.

At the very end of a file, I'll usually put in a colophon. This is not in the template, but it's just a blank page at the end with my stamp and notes on the size of the typeset and what fonts I used. *I don't have a fully written tutorial at this time, but I recommend joining Renegade Bindery's discord, where a lot of very talented people have shared their tutorials, and provide very helpful live answers. i plan on putting together a little kit for bone collecting, do you have any suggestions of tools/things i should include in it?

YES I DO!!! Here’s a basic rundown of what’s in my bone hunting bag:

plastic bags of various sizes (compostable ones are great if you can find em). You never know what you’re gonna stumble across/ need to haul back home, so bring an array!

Multiple pairs of rubber gloves, just in case!

A simple hunting knife *and or* a small pair of scissors. (Often used for harvesting fresh bits like paws or claws or wings) (Plus, If something is mummified or slightly fleshy, I prefer to take care of it then and there. Makes transportation way easier)

Hand Sanitizer… I’m bad at remembering to wear gloves.

A small jar *and or* a pocket-sized compartment box. (for teensy fragile bones/ owl pellets/ bugs/ bug wings that’d get all crunched up in a bag, or need to be kept seperate) One of these things:

Wet wipes, optional, I just bring them sometimes because I dig like a maniac and have mud hands afterwards. And for when I forget the gloves step. Don’t forget the gloves step.

Twine, also optional, It just comes in handy sometimes.

A seperate pouch for feathers! I keep a pouch that I can tie to myself, since feathers get all crunched up and bent when put in a bag with other things.

A water bottle, always bring water to stay hydrated, especially if you’re out in the middle of the woods!

This isn’t a tool necessarily, but I HIGHLY recommend having google maps on your phone. It has saved my ass on many occasions, it’s surprisingly useful for navigating yourself out of a forest you’re lost in. Useful for getting familiar with a forest’s layout beforehand too! Shoutout google maps!

The steam guide contains a lot of stuff from TSPUD: assets, wallpapers, steam grids, etc. That includes papers. If you are interested in learning The Lore™ of the game I very highly recommend you read those. Like really these are like, the only actual pieces of information on the office we have.

There is more stuff in the whiteboards in the game but those don't seem to be in the guide, if you know how to use AssetStudio you should be able to find most of them by searching "whiteboard" and "easel". If you don't then I might publish em along with other juicy textures a bit later(I'm currently quite busy unfortunately </3), so like. stay tuned i guess

The google drive link contains all the textures seen in the demo version of the game converted to png. You should be able to browse those yourself by downloading VTFEdit, quick note for those who want to: .vtf files contain the actual textures, .vmt contain material data & such for said textures.

Additional notes:

A bit more bonus info on the google drive README: the reason I specified location for the clipboards is that these contain a lot of information(such as names and employee numbers for a few people), so if that's what you're there for you should absolutely check these out.

To clear up some possible confusion: Violet James is employee #104. The name in the clipboard and also on the same whiteboard in TSP2013 is outdated. This is the case for a few other people listed there but to my knowledge #104 is the only one mentioned outside the demo, so if you wish to you may check the names yourself as a few of those reference devs or friends of devs.

Toxic Individualism In Modern Witchcraft

The modern witchcraft movement is very much a product of the 20th century, and one thing it picked up from that was a pretty individualist way of thinking. This isn't all bad, since it helped normalize people being allowed to do spirituality in a way that truly resonated with them, rather than following whatever an institution prescribed for them.

But as many of us know, western individualism comes with a lot of really toxic shit, encouraging and even enshrining apathy, cruelty, and social Darwinism. This, unfortunately, is very much an attitude you occasionally see within modern witchcraft.

This is sometimes expressed through a "let 'em sink or swim" attitude. For example, you might see people bristle at the idea of warning people about dangers such as toxic plants; "well, they should know to just research this themselves, if they get hurt, that's their own faults." Never mind that most of us live in a socioeconomic environment where "natural" tends to be equated with "safe," and few people were taught any real amount of research skills. (Most people don't know how to research beyond "type a thing into Google and click the first link" or "watch a video on YouTube and follow the algorithm.")

There's this sort of idea that witchcraft and the occult is this kind of Darwinian proving ground. You're either just born having what it takes, or you're not. Supposedly, there's no need to warn people about red flags, fascist rhetoric, pseudohistory, or anything, because supposedly, the "worthy" will just be able to find their own way on their own. Anyone who doesn't make it? Anyone who ends up poisoning themselves or falling down the alt right pipeline or abused by a predator? Couldn't be helped; they were never "meant" for this path anyway. It was simply too much for them. Why, if you really think about it, it was their own faults for daring to reach above the station they were born for, anyway.

This is a completely irrational view, because it's simply not how things work. People aren't born having research skills, critical thinking skills, or knowing the difference between real history and pseudohistory; they're taught these things. And some people are statistically much less likely to receive a good education than others. There are a few people who beat the odds and end up better educated than most people in their socioeconomic status, but this doesn't mean that they were born with inherent greatness; it just means that they were curious and lucked out in finding the right materials.

As many of us also know, Victorian-era eugenicists believed that members of the upper class were just inherently better. They had the genes for intelligence and strength of will. (Yeah, that whole modern occult fixation with willpower has some dodgy origins, too.) They just ignored that whole thing where they lived in a socioeconomic system designed to keep most people in poverty. If they ever saw someone beat the system, they attributed it to that person being born exceptional for some reason. I would highly recommend that anyone who hasn't done so already watch Shaun's video, The Bell Curve, which criticizes the book by the same title that effectively tries to argue for Victorian-age eugenics, to get a better picture of this whole thing.

Toxic individualism also encourages thinking of individuals as main characters on some kind of hero's journey, where every pain they suffer and every mistake they make is a vitally important part of their journey and growth; so much so that any effort to prevent them from making mistakes or suffering harm is hindering their personal growth.

Sure, people do often gain valuable insight from their mistakes and suffering. But it's absurd to claim that this is always the best way for people to learn and grow, especially if there's a risk of serious harm for themselves or others. Certainly it's much better to learn from a friendly Tumblr post that essential oils can give you chemical burns or harm your pets than experience it first-hand. And it's much better to learn what far right rhetoric looks like beforehand so you can recognize it when you first see it, rather than get drawn into some far right belief system and perpetuate harm on vulnerable minorities for any amount of time. (This whole thing of acting like you're life's main character and other people are basically just NPCs on some hero's journey that you imagine yourself to be on is so immensely fucked up.)

And finally, if anybody out here finds themselves thinking, "but nobody should expect help from others; after all, I didn't get any!", I'm gonna tell you: it shouldn't have been that way. You didn't not get help because that's just how the world works; you didn't get help because that's how modern western socioeconomics are created to work. Toxic individualism is a construct, and it's one that we can dismantle and replace with something better.

The beauty of the known is often looked upon and taken for granted as something that shouldn’t be cherished. Because it’s comfortable, unexciting, predictable, trustworthy, and completely capable of making you yawn with boredom. But the thing is that the true beauty lies in what is expected, what you already know, in all of the things you can replay in your mind even before they happen.

You know it all, from the long pauses to the hesitation, the doubt in every word silently marked with an interrogation point. The uncertainty beneath the “I made a chicken pie for dinner”, it’s all so foolish to some, but to me, it’s the most wholesome thing that could ever exist in this world.

Love is overrated, not because it is a frivolous thing but because people often over-glamourize it as everything that it is not. Real love is not being excited to see your significant other every day, it’s not the urge to touch them nor the need to hear their voice. Real love is not marked by excitement but in fact, it’s nothing more than comfort.

When we’re young we have this vision that love will sweep us off our feet every day for the rest of our lives, and then reality hits us and love becomes everything that’s not advertised on TV shows or movies.

How far are we from the reality depicted in the movie - HER?

Lookin for Curse of Strahd Players!

Hi there, my name is Bilbo, and I am planning on running the game Curse of Strahd for dnd 5e! A gothic horror campaign, the module centers around the titular strahd and the land of Barovia, where you gather allies in order to defeat the count and escape! In addition to Curse of Strahd, I also am planning to run a little bit of Candlekeep mysteries before Strahd. And after the events of Curse of Strahd, I have plans on potentially doing Vecna: Eve of Ruin depending on player interest after the campaign!

Game is on Wednesday, 7 PM-10 PM PST

Content Warnings:

This campaign will be run with Foundry, Via forge. So, you will need to make an account for that (it is free, don't worry)

These campaigns (Curse of Strahd mainly) is filled with things that could be potentially triggering. These triggers include but are not particularly limited to: child abuse, murder, kidnapping, gaslighting, racism, sexism, torture, mind control, cannibalism, sexual assault, mental illness, animal cruelty, body horror, incest, suicide, drug addiction, and alcoholism. I will do what I can to lessen these, but I am only human and things may slip up. I am also going to be giving a consent form so that I will make sure what to mitigate the most.

This campaign markup is gonna be around 60% RP, 20-25% Combat, and 15-20% exploration.

Romancing is fine (and I encourage it), and Sexual content may be alluded and innuendoed to, but not explicit. Anything past that is fade to black, or taken to DMs (assuming any/all individuals involved consent).

There is a high liklihood your character will die. However, that will not be the end for them. There are multiple ways a character can come back from the dead

I will also be introducing the X card into the game. The X card is a short, simple, and relatively anonymous way to stop the game if you are feeling uncomfortable about something. If the X card is pulled, I will stop the game for around 10 minutes, and while the X card will be unknown to everyone (including me), I would like to ask that whoever placed it inform me of what is wrong, so that I can try to change or remove the triggering/uncomfortable aspect as much as I can.

The rules: -Must be LGBTQ+ friendly -If you have a disagreement on something, I will hear you out and try to explain what is happening, but ultimately I will have the final say on something -18+ only. -Will be using discord for VC -Have a decent mic with low-no background noise -Make sure to communicate -Missing/ being late to 2 sessions in a row will bring a talk from me and may constitute removal

I FEEL I JUST HAVE TO CLARIFY I HAVE A REALLY WEIRD RELATIONSHIP WITH TWILIGHT OKAY.

I read the first book when I was in high school and highly recommended it to my friends, who also enjoyed it. In my defense, we were all 16/17 at the time.

Yes, I have always had a vampire obsession

Then I distinctly remember reading the second book when I was 18 because I read it after my grandma passed away in March of 2007 (just before my birthday) and I was really struggling with losing her.

It took me a bit to realize Bella was hardcore hallucinating Edward. Up to that point I think I’d assumed he was like…idk telepathically communicating with her or something. And then I realized she was jumping off a cliff just to “see” him.

I was dealing with the first major death in my life that I could comprehend. And I got SO ANNOYED at Bella being this dramatic over a boy. Like, girl, move the fuck on.

So I stopped reading the series. Because 18 year old me just could not handle that level of nonsense. At first I had connected with Bella because I was grieving and it was reassuring to see a fictional character going through something similar. I was also in the midst of being hardcore parentified (heyyy therapy!) so I related to Bella on that level too. But then Bella just got too weird and over the top for me with her extreme Edward withdrawal, so I bounced.

Then the first movie came out in 2008. One of my college roommates (E) at the time wanted to see it. She was a major Twilight fan. Me and my other roommate (Em) went with her and a friend of hers to see it. I remember swinging by Hot Topic along the way and there being a bunch of Twilight merch.

Then the movie. I thought E’s friend was going to kill us. Em and I were laughing so fucking hard. It’s not a comedy, but by god it was to us. We also went to the second movie when it came out, hoping for more of the same, but it just ended up being a bummer and I fell out of Twilight again.

Cut to a little while later. Idk exactly when (2009? 2010?), but Facebook Flair was a thing. Poking, too.

I LOVED Facebook Flair. I spent a lot of time finding Flair I liked. And then Twilight, of all things, kept popping up.

I was extremely confused. Twilight was old news to me by then and I had no idea it had become so popular. Baffling.

Intrigued, I decided to do some googling to see what else had happened in the Twilight universe.

Then I started reading about Edward biting a baby out of Bella.

I thought this had to be fake. Like, what in the actual fuck???

NOPE. It was real. It was around then I finally dove back into the series and finished reading it because I had to know what the fuck was going on with this unhinged shit. I also finished all the movies too, though I think the last three I watched on DVD.

Curiosity satisfied, I had a moment of “well, that happened I guess.”

But then Twilight just kept lurking beneath the surface.

Idk if I got sucked back into it or not pre-covid. During the lockdown though, I was really going through it (just like everyone else, hey repressed trauma) and was seeking solace.

I got big into audiobooks then, mostly of stuff I’d enjoyed as a teen. I wanted familiarity and comfort. I was also struggling with getting back into reading after major burnout as an English Major. So I listened to the Twilight audiobooks and the new Midnight Sun audiobook.

I’d been on Stephanie Myers’s site back in the day and had seen the snippet she’d released for Midnight Sun where Edward was thinking about WD-40ing Bella’s window so he could creep on her at night more easily and thinking “my god, it’s gotten even more unhinged somehow.”

ANYWAY. I think that’s around the time I actually started to enjoy Twilight. Delving back into it, I was struck by just how unapologetically self indulgent it was. It reminds me of fanfic in a way. Stephenie Meyer created her own little world and was getting to do deeper dives into it because she had a big enough fanbase that was all too happy for more.

It’s an odd little series. I remember all the hate it got for years (especially in the writing convention circuits I attended) I’d argue because the main demographic was teenage girls and the world loves to shit on what teenage girls enjoy. I’m not saying Twilight is perfect by any means (there’s a lot of fucked up and problematic stuff surrounding it). But for what it is, what it does, it’s very successful.

I think part of its success comes from the timing. It came out alongside Harry Potter and The Hunger Games and mainlined the romance the other two only had in the background. And it does self-insert dramatic star-crossed-lovers teenage angst extremely well.

I also think Meyer is a better author than she tends to gets credit for, that people are too quick to attribute her success to fanatical teenage girls who will “read anything”. Tbh though, idk if it even still has that level of stigma and disdain nowadays.

I think the movies are really good for what they are too. You see a blue tinted screencap and you immediately know you’re in the Twilight universe. They follow pretty closely to the books too (minus the last one’s big fight scene), and the actors are all perfect for their roles. I’m also a big fan of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart (we stan a bisexual icon). I think they’re both incredibly talented actors who just happened to get their big break from these weird little movies.

Nowadays when I’m indulging in Twilight, it comes across to me as a bit campy. I think that’s where its charm lies for a lot of people now. I absolutely love the memes and the reminiscing about how batshit crazy the series and movies are.

So, yeah, this is a really long winded way of saying I have a complicated relationship with Twilight.

I should probably also add I don’t judge anyone who genuinely loves the series specifically for the love story. I’m just not one of those people.

Now, generally I'll be ranking a lot of the baby/buddy items the same. They add a slight bit of dps, but really you just want em for conjoined. They're a very simple item archetype, generally just made to fill slots. This item, however, is special! It is one of the only items in the game that is genuinely revolting to me. It's one of my least favorite items in the game. I'm not going to pretend it's like the *worst* thing in the internet, but it's disgusting, and I highly recommend not googling it. I made that mistake. Again, I know most of the time when people add a "do not google" adendum to their posts, people immediately google, so just please be wary. And with all that said, edmund tier.
