February 1st, 2024: A new geiko is born! Hidechiyo (秀千代) of Masamiya (雅美家) in Pontocho is celebrating her erikae! She is the second erikae for the new Masamiya okiya and the third geiko to reside there. She is also the first erikae for her kagai this year! Her outfit features waves with a Kai Awase (shell matching game) motif and a golden obi with karabana in a tortoiseshell pattern ^^ おめでとうさんどす秀千代さん ^o^! Image is courtesy of Ono No Komachi.

is there any tall maiko-geiko in the gion kobu district that are active/retired

I don't know about Gion Kobu, but Hidechiyo from Pontocho and Miehina from Miyagawacho are pretty tall.

Edit: it seems that Mameaya from Gion Kobu is taller than average as well

Sound of chatter filled the air as her oneesan opened the door the the tea house, the establishment's owner greeting them with a polite bow before showing them the room where their clients were waiting. Hidecho went in first, kneeling down to open the door and shuffling in quietly before Shinichi followed her in, going through the motions to close it.

She then turned to her clients, smiling brightly as her oneesan introduced her as Hidechiyo, and she bowed down deeply then stood up graciously and slowly but steadily walked to the space where she would dance for her guests, bowing to each of them as she passed.

She remembered her first time sitting amongst the people, watching her soon to be oneesan perform her gracious dance. Shinichi had never been one to dedicate herself to arts, but in that moment she knew for sure that this was what she wanted; Become a Geisha just as gracious as her.

Now, two years later she was dancing her own dance in front of those curious eyes, kanzashi dangling as she went through her dance with precision and care. Maybe one day too she could inspire someone to follow in her footsteps.

Hakuba and his father walked up to the elegant looking tea house in Yoshi-cho, his father following after an older woman. Hakubas father had insisted that he come with him, it was apparently very prestigious to be allowed in but Hakuba would never really understand the large deal with Geisa and Tea houses, no matter how many times his poor father tried! The two were led into a room and following direction hakuba just sat down on the mat and sighed settling down.
