as a gift for his aunt and her coming of age, three, petrified dragon’s eggs   …   or so they were thought. weeks later, a fire, a princess’ sacrifice and there are three dragons squawking. ruby, emerald, and opal. a well - kept secret amongst the royal family  ( but one cannot hide a dragon for long. the hatchlings are already growing in size ),  and the young targling’s friends, it so appears.

aegon is entirely smitten with rhaegal, his little, green gem. he has, against his father’s wishes, brought sansa down beneath the keep to see them. they are fed raw meat in bites only as big as aegon’s palm, freshly cut by the keep’s butcher and still bloody red. the prince is smiling from ear to ear, perhaps brighter than he ever has before. impatiently, seeing his meal, rhaegal flaps his little wings as hard as he can, stirring up dust and sand. only the size of a gull, but much more magical and demanding.
