really awesome to me that henry thomas dundas le vesconte’s middle names are after thomas dundas, his father’s commanding officer at the battle of trafalgar. i’m not saying it’s always something gay happening at the battle of trafalgar but if i had a nickel etc etc

Of course I’m saving my boy in my AU, and of course I’m using the opportunity to make him suffer a bit more <3

After barely surviving the Tunnbaq attack, Graham survives and manages to come back to England alive. He is promoted to Commander and everyone expects him to go back to the sea soon.

But Graham isn’t the same man who left his country years ago, and some stuff cannot be hidden anymore

Actually, no!

I know I'm just after saying in a previous post's tags that Little is an incredibly honest and genuine person, that he seldom, if ever, engages in any great act of concealment or artifice.

But I'm wrong!

I'm wrong and I'm forgetting his deep and profound anger!

Anger at his situation, at his lack of power and agency within that situation!

Anger at others, and anger at himself!

That deep, deep well of anger within him is huge and his concealment of it is, likewise. It's a Herculean act of self-suppression and, honestly, it's actually an incredibly successful one on the whole.

His anger is palpable to we the audience but he never seems to share it with anyone else.

We see it just begin to bubble to the surface in the last episode, perhaps, but unlike someone like Fitzjames whose artifice breaks as he reaches the end of vanity, there's no great schism for Little, no great release.

a lot of the difficulty of recognising characters throughout the terror is telling one brunettish sideburned man from the 112 other brunettish sideburned men. not with dundy tho. the difficulty of knowing who dundy is every episode i think he's an entirely new character who i've never noticed before

fully obsessed with dundy today. he's the most sensible person here! he doesn't experience empathy! he loves the men under his command so much that he's willing to let other people die to save them! he is going to mutiny as soon as there are no more rich tea biscuits left! and he is going to mutiny BY VOTE!

i would love a selkie au fitzy what hes up to is up to you!!!

Design-wise, Fitzjames looks almost the same in the AU

He is half-selkie (from his mother’s side). He spent all his life trying to hide it, wanting to fit in with he humans and the Admiralty. But after years in the Arctic, he cannot lie to himself anymore. He cannot get back the years he pretended to be someone else, but he still has time to do and be better.

He then become closer to the selkies of the crew, learning to be really himself. Or maybe herself :3c

the bit in the terror where the marine is trying to tell hickey about seeing tuunbaq eat scuba guy's soul is, to me, the same scene as when tom keeps trying to talk abt him and shiv's gross wine and his possibly going to prison and shiv is like 🙄 not this again. [hickey voice] I don't get why you keep wanting to talk about it!

Still thinking about Dundy today.

Thinking about what a compelling and absolutely stellar choice it would have been, had Hickey recruited him onto Team Mutiny.

Thinking that, out of all the lieutenants, Le Vesconte may well have been the best choice.

Like, I don't actually believe that he would be seduced so easily. I believe he's ultimately a good person who's loyal to command (at least while Fitzjames still lives) and who, above all else, is loyal to the men.

But he's also pragmatic and ruthless, is capable of subterfuge, and ultimately, is willing to be at least somewhat complicit in the deaths of some men if it ensures his own survival and the survival of others.

And that's not nothing!!!
