for the character dynamic ask- azzy and dess
anon u dont even know what you jus
Dess and Asriel have known eachother as long as either could remember
They were borderline inseperable as kids. if dess went into the dreemurr house, there was an absolute chance asriel would be coming out of it with her, and vice versa
They both were the oldest kids of probably the two most popular families in the town: the mayors daughter and the town sweetheart
it was a lot of pressure
a lot of people wanted them to get together. dess was not interested in. Men. it was Never going to happen
they still knew that everyone kind of wanted them together though. and it still sucked
i like to think they were platonic soulmates
where dess was rebellious, asriel was obedient. shed reject the ‘perfect’ role everyone tried to fit her in, whereas asriel fell into it. it still stressed them out
they could tell eachother anything. a parallel to kris and noelle: sometimes it felt they knew eachother better than anyone
dess was insecure about a lot of things. if she fit the holiday image, if she was a good enough sister, a good enough daughter. asriel thought she was perfect the way she was!
asriel also was insecure. he worried about not being good enough for the town, about letting people down, about keeping everything together.
sometimes dess would fight with her mom. she’d show up to asriels house in the middle of the night and somehow climb through his window
she begged him to run away with her. he knew she would never actually leave, but he ‘agreed’ anyways
theyd.. never really run away. theyd usually just stop at ice-es, pick up a soda, and stop by the lake. it made dess feel better
asriel kept dess from flunking out of school
dess would drag asriel into her antics though. hes stolen more shopping carts with her than he’d like to admit
theyd sit near eachother at church and dess would start whispering curse words to the angel and it would bring asriel to near tears LMAO hed beg her to take it back so they didnt go to h-e-double-hockeysticks
then dess disappeared
she was just gone
it made asriel realize just how hard it was for him to do things without her. she was such a drive for him he felt kind of lost with her just gone
eventually hometown felt bittersweet in the aftermath. the longer the search for dess went on, the more asriel lost hope, and the more he anticipated college
maybe if he left hometown it would stop feeling like she was there but also not at all
really he just wanted closure more than anything. some way to wrap the story up. so he didnt need to wonder ‘what if’ whenever he saw a worn and faded missing poster
maybe one day he’ll get that closure, maybe one day he won’t
asriel and dess are best friends and i think they always will be
