she’s literally so much more than kai’s sister and people need to see that

Heuning Kai x Reader

After a long day of revising for your upcoming tests the last thing you need is to spend hours entertaining your mums friends, the only good thing is that you haven't had a chinese in a while and you really craved some chow mein. Hearing the doorbell ring, you finish up your work and head downstairs to see your family and the Huenings squeezed around the table. Had you known it was them who were coming over you would have finished earlier.

"Welcome to the world, neek." your brother teases, "hurry up if you want any duck, it's almost all gone." Looking around the table you realise your usual spot is taken and the seat left empty for you is between your little sister and Kai, whos smiling meekly over the bottles of coke. You sit down quickly and whisper to him, "Sorry to leave you to the wolves, I thought it would be just parents coming over"

Dinner passes slowly as your hyper-aware of Kai squashed into your side. The wines getting passed around and you can tell everyones getting a bit tipsy, you can feel your own brain getting fuzzy too. The conversation veers to an argument about who the favourite member of the opposite family is. "Come on there's no way I'm not the best Huening, I'm charming, charismatic and intelligent. Y/n back me up here." Lea whines. You nod your head "Right then let's go around the table and everyone has to give their answer. Kai you've been uncharacteristically quiet, you can start, then we'll move left."

Kai nods decisively, "It's obvious who I'll choose though. Sorry to the rest of you but there's a clear winner for me, no one else can make me laugh quite like the number one sweetie y/n." he performs with a wink and and finger hearts. Everyone goes silent. "Kai… please for all of our sake never do that again." your older brother laughs. Kai flushes red and sinks into his seat, "It was meant to be funny, just 'cus you have no humor." he sulks. You nudge his side and he grumbles to himself "Moving on. My choice is obvious too, no one charms me more than cute and lovely Hiyyih." You perform with a matching wink to Kai but a full body heart to up the irony. "Y/N HOW COULD YOU!? I thought we had each other's back." Lea cries and just like that the argument starts again.

Eventually everyone finishes eating, your sister and Bahiyyih run off the her room, your brother and Lea are sat in the living room with the parents discussing 'older stuff' so that leaves you and Kai together. Your rooms a tip with hardly any room to sit so you make your way out to the garden room with a bag of popcorn and a couple more beers in your hands. "Kai how have you never watched 10 things I hate about you! It's a classic, we're watching it now." "I'm not really into those types of movies y/n, you know that. I'd much rather watch Spiderman or something." "Okay whatever, but you'll be into Heath Ledger" you reply with a laugh.

You settle into the couch and spread out your snacks, "Kai come closer, there's only one blanket and you don't need to get cold" "The cold doesn't bother me." he replies, you notice that his neck is red but it must be from the alcohol. "Okay Elsa, suit yourself." You wrap yourself up in a huff but you think it's for the better anyways with how fast your heart raced just from asking.

As the movie plays you can feel Kai moving closer towards the blanket. You two continue eating the popcorn and shuffling closer until you reach for the popcorn at the same time, shoulders knocking. "Kai," you blurt, " you haven't had your first kiss yet right?" He splutters and burns red, covering his face, "Where's this come from. I didn't know I came and watched this with you just to be attacked." He whines, before a quiet, "But no… not yet." You can feel the beer and wine running through you, giving you a burst of confidence, "You know I haven't had mine either. How about we just... have them now?"

Kai whips his head towards you scanning your face to see if your joking, the alcoholic confidence you had drains, sobering you up as the silence stretches on, forgotten lines recite from the TV. "I can't tell if you're joking y/n. Don't play around like this." "Why would I joke. If you don't want to just say, I'm not pressuring you." you sit back on the sofa looking away to hide how embarrassed you feel. "It's not that, I would like it. I'm just… are you sure? It's kind of a lot and you'd be losing your first kiss to someone like me" Kai rambles.

You lean forward and peck him on the lips. He freezes. "There now it's done. I can't take it back." Kai blinks. You laugh and pepper light kisses all over his face. "Wait, I wasn't- that doesn't count." You hum in response and pretend to think, "What can we do about that then…?" He cups your cheeks and looks into your eyes, "y/n seriously you can't take it back now" he kisses you again. It's slow and delicate, like he wants to take all the time to savour it, to savour you. When you break apart the air is thick with tension and Kai just looks at you, taking everything in.

You can't take the silence. "Kai did you lie to me? Where did you learn to kiss like that, are you sure it was your first." you joke trying to lighten the mood. Kai's head falls to your shoulder and with an exasperated laugh he says, "Y/n you know I really like you. Like really like you. Do I have a chance?"

You pick his head up and squish his face between your hands. "Are you serious right now? Why would I do that if I didn't like you?" "I don't know maybe you just really wanted your first kiss?" He pulls his head away and buries it deeper into your neck. He keeps it there for a moment before biting your neck "What the fuck! I just just confessed my feelings for you and this is how you treat me!" "No, you never actually said it. I was the only one who confessed."

"Okay sit up and face me." Kai does as you say listening with a broad smile, "Kai Kamal Huening, I like you a whole bunch. You are the cutest, sweetest person I know and you are just an all round silly guy. I've liked you for ages and to be honest I had been stressing about how to confess for months now so when you arrived at my dining table today I felt blessed. Plus also, it meant I got to see my favourite Huening, Lea." He pushed your shoulder with a lopsided grin, "If you're going to lie at least keep it consistent, that's not even the sister you said earlier." "Whatever prettyboy, she just texted me and said you're leaving now."

You both got up and slowly made your way to the front door, Kai tailing behind you, holding onto your finger like he couldn't let go. "Why are they leaving now. Couldn't they have given us like half an hour more; we literally only just confessed for goodness sake." He grumbles over your shoulder "Maybe.. But we have all the time in the world now. We don't have to rush." you grinned back. "Stop worrying or else you'll go bald."

"Once again the last one here. Y/n you're a bad influence on Kai." your brother mocked. As your brother complained about the Huening's cheating in their board games you pushed Kai out the house into the car. "Just message me okay?" "Of course my sweetie pie, snookum bear, sugar fairy, your wish is my command." completed with another wink and a heart. As the car pulled away you heard the collective groans and a loud slap. You laughed to yourself.
