So, disclaimer:
We're white-bodied, disabled, and trans masc. Jewish and Romani ancestry, but our recent family decided to become Christian and get rid of all the family history, lmao. :') We're a large adaptive + protogenic system with DID, mostly fictives, and we've been a system for over 30 years.
So that's where we're coming from when we address this post we came across. This is gonna get long, so screenshot and our thoughts under the read-more.
Transcript:
1. I am a system host and a fictive myself. I've existed for about 12 years at this point and I'm fully aware that fictives are people who are more than just our source characters. I am in no way blaming Hazbin fictives for their own existence, and I don't think they are inherently bad people. 2. I do agree that people, in general, systems or not, fictive-heavy or not, have a responsibility to avoid watching/reading stories that will harm them. You are right that if it were coming from a singlet, my specifically addressing systems would come across as condescending and unfair. I apologize for this, I didn't provide context in my kinfession so I don't blame anyone for being rubbed the wrong way by it. 3. Specifically, as a Jewish person the continued popularity of things like Hazbin, Hetalia, and Attack on Titan makes me feel upset and unsafe. Even though I've blacklisted the tags for Hazbin, seeing that the posts exist makes me frustrated and irritated. When you have a fictive from something, it becomes very difficult to ever completely stop talking about it, and then when you make friends, it makes them curious about your source material, and it makes it spread further and further. So even though I don't blame Hazbin fictives for existing, if it weren't for people watching Hazbin, they probably would have split as either a non-fictive alter or as a fictive from something else, and I wouldn't have to see yet another antisemitic cartoon become the current hot topic. To amend my original statement, I will say: Nobody at all should be watching Hazbin Hotel regardless of whether they're singlet or plural, kin or non-kin, etc. BUT people who split fictives easily should be especially careful to avoid it. The end. Sorry MPC for the drama.
... It's hard to know where to start, so we'll get the financial/material aspects out of the way, first.
Yes, Hazbin Hotel has issues. The creator has said things that aren't great, to put it mildly. There are definitely problematic aspects in the show itself. Some of the arguments brought against Vivz are asinine ("oh she wrote problematic characters and supports gross ships so she's terrible!" for example), but some seem to be valid, like her use of Vodou symbols, potentially antisemitic character designs, and seemingly anti-trans masc sentiments.
Now, we're not knowledgeable enough to address any of these things. (And some things, like the anti trans masc stuff, could be exaggerated or faked. It's hard to know just based on discord screenshots, since anyone can change their pfp and their nickname.) We have seen people who are take either side of the argument-- that it's fine, that it's not fine, etc. Minorities aren't a monolith. That's as far as we can speak on that.
What we do feel comfortable addressing is the idea that kin-prone or fictive-prone systems shouldn't watch canon sources that are (a) created by a problematic person, or (b) are problematic in nature.
We're reminded distinctly of the HP and JKR issue. Now, we read and watched HP growing up. We have fictives from there. We were massively upset when we realized how bigoted JKR is, and how many bigoted sentiments exist in HP itself. So, what do you do when something like that comes to light?
Don't engage with the source at all in any way, shape, or form, and distance yourself/ves from people who do.
If you already have engaged with the source in the past, stop, and don't engage with anything new.
Yo-ho-ho everything and/or only purchase secondhand, and if you want merch, only pick up merch from secondhand/fanmade sources that don't line the creator's pockets.
Any and all of these are valid responses, in our eyes. The goal isn't, to us, to never engage with problematic sources-- it's to avoid lining the pockets of bigoted creators who create sources that further their bigoted ideas.
Is this necessary with Vivz and HH/HB? That's up to you to decide. It definitely is, to us, with JKR and her works because she is flat-out a bigot, who is using the money she makes to fund hate groups. But Vivz? She's a bisexual Salvadoran-American, who employs queer folks to work on her massively queer-centric universe. That doesn't mean she's a good person or good boss, it doesn't mean she isn't doing shit wrong, but at the same time, we don't feel the same level of disgust over knowing people engage with HH/HB + buy merch for it.
If you do? Okay, then that's your choice, and we do support people not buying official merch and sailing the seas if they want to see the source without giving money to the creator.
But blanket-statements implying that people are causing intrinsic harm by watching HH at all and that people should feel bad if they do, because it's causing harm to vulnerable groups, (a) ignores people from those vulnerable groups who are okay with it or find value in it, which does matter, (b) ignores the real issue inherent in bigoted media/creators, which is them getting financial support, and (c) ignores the fact that people can in fact engage with a problematic source while understanding the aspects that are problematic, and having a full, healthy discussion about those aspects while also enjoying the "good parts" of the source.
Sometimes it's just not possible to engage with a media source legally without giving money to bigots, but that isn't the same as saying "no one should ever watch this or enjoy it at all, ever".
Hazbin is one of the first adult-oriented cartoons to feature an almost purely queer case of characters. (And the "token straight" is very kinky.) It is also a show that involves messy queers and situations that are serious, troubling, toxic, etc, which is something that is harder and harder to find in a social setting that is becoming increasingly sanitized/puritanical. On top of all that, the message it promotes-- that it's never too late, you still have time, you can still change and become better, and even shitty people don't deserve to be extrajudicially murdered-- is a fucking needed one.
Does that make up for the "bad parts"? Or the fact that Vivz might be an asshole? Idk, that's up to you. But unless we get proof that Vivz is funneling profits to organizations that want to kill minorities or trans people or something, we personally are gonna say it's at everyone's personal discretion. (And even then, if you wanna fly the jolly roger and see it anyways, that's your choice.)
Shifting focus away from "hey we should be aware of problematic elements in fiction and be able to discuss them" and "we should find ways to not support bigoted creators even if we continue to enjoy their works" to "this is wholly bad and if you even so much as look at it, you're doing something bad" is not a great thing for fandom, for media literacy as a whole, or for fictionkin/fictive communities.
Which brings us to the point of, you can say you don't blame HH fictives for existing, but the minute you follow that up with "when you have a fictive from something, it becomes very difficult to ever completely stop talking about it, and then when you make friends, it makes them curious about your source material, and it makes it spread further and further" ... you're putting the onus on fictionkin and fictives. You might not be blaming them for existing, but you're still blaming them for any further harm (perceived or actual) that comes from their existence. And that isn't okay.
We have HH fictives, and fictives who ended up with HH kintypes. Watching HH didn't harm us. As CSA and SA survivors, and queer + trans folks in general who are older and have a messy fucking life, it actually was comforting and helped us. A lot. We can still point to things that aren't great about the show, we can still side-eye the creator and line their pockets as little as possible, but we're not bad people for watching the show. We're not bad people for having those kin/fictive connections. And if our existence makes people curious about HH, that doesn't make us bad, either.
What would be bad is if we completely ignored any of the issues the show or creator has, and just cheerfully bounce along without addressing those issues. (If it comes up/is relevant-- you don't constantly have to lambast the fiction you enjoy to make sure people know that you know how ~problematic~ it is.)
It's not our responsibility to police people's fiction consumption habits. Again, using HP and JKR as an example, we can share why we won't purchase anything that benefits JKR and what she's said/done that is harmful. We still can't stop people from engaging with HP. If we can convince people to obtain the books/movies/games and enjoying without JKR profiting, and if we can educate people on why she sucks and about the bigoted aspects of HP, to us that's a win. The point isn't to keep people away from a media source, so much as it is to keep bigoted creators from profiting and to help people understand the bigoted angles.
Our responsibility begins and ends with making people aware of bigotry that is getting people harmed or killed. If people read or watch a "problematic" series because of our fictives or kintypes, we didn't fail. We weren't "irresponsible". If people watch a "problematic" series because of our fictives or kintypes and then goes on to whole-heartedly support the creator and gloss over all the troubling or bigoted aspects of the series, then we've failed. The consumption of the thing isn't the fucking problem.
And--
Regardless of context, it's still incredible nasty to say "well it's not your fault for existing, but your existence is promoting something harmful, and if you'd never existed at all then you wouldn't be causing more harm". It's not the fault of fictionkin or fictives for existing, end of sentence. No ifs, and, buts. Most people can't help what kintypes they have, most systems can't help what fictives they pick up. Full stop. Blaming them for something they can't help, and shouldn't be trying to police to begin with, is not okay.
If a series makes you feel unsafe, stop engaging with it. Explain to people why it makes you feel unsafe. Distance yourself/ves from people who continue to engage. These are all things that are your right to do. It is not your right to turn around and blame kinfolk or fictives for perpetuating harm (real or perceived) because oh, well someone might get curious about their source and go look at it. That is deeply unfair.
It also also incredibly bizarre to say that, were it not for your system engaging with the source, you-- the fictives from that source-- "probably would have split as either a non-fictive alter or as a fictive from something else". Maybe that's how it works for some systems, but (a) that makes no sense for fictionkin, and (b) does not work for all systems.
We, personally, don't "split" fictives at all. They simply show up because we engage with a source, and our brain goes "oh hey they'd be useful for something". Or, sometimes, "they remind us of ourselves or someone already here and oops we felt sympathy too hard and now they're here". So, sure, if we never watched or heard anything about HH, maybe we wouldn't have kintypes or fictives from there. (Hard to say, because we don't always even need to watch a source for this to happen.) But they wouldn't be here at all. Not as a non-fictive, not as a fictive from something else. They simply wouldn't exist.
(EDIT: Adding in that, also, for some systems... they get fictives before they're even aware of the fictive's source. Is it more rare? Maybe. But it happens. We ourselves have at least one fictive who had an appearance, voice, and full personality formed until we stumbled across his source years later. The source hadn't even existed when he arrived, lmao. What do you do when you get fictives before their source even exists here.)
And for us, in some cases-- not just HH, but other sources-- that would be a disaster. Some of our strongest, more reliable and helpful system members come from "problematic" sources. Our HP fictives kept us alive during our teen years. For some system members who are also fictionkin of "problematic" sources, their kinshifts kept them safe and stable when they otherwise wouldn't have been.
And you know what? For as much as we understand how a series can be upsetting and make people feel unsafe-- that's how we feel about South Park and South Park fans, lmao-- we'd rather have picked up a kintype or fictive from a potentially problematic source than have ended up dead or worse off mentally because we lacked someone who (in that timeframe or beyond) could have helped but didn't exist. And we extend that to other people. Including kintypes and fictives from sources we find terrible.
Furthermore, the sentiment that "even though I don't blame Hazbin fictives for existing, if ... they probably would have split as either a non-fictive alter or as a fictive from something else ... I wouldn't have to see yet another antisemitic cartoon become the current hot topic" is blame-and-shamey as fuck, and you won't change our minds on that. Even if we otherwise agreed about the potential harm of the series.
HH would have existed without fictionkin and without fictives. It would have, and has, become popular without them. It is not the fault of fictionkin and fictives. If you don't blame HH fictives for existing, then you can fucking end the sentence there. Adding a "but" or "except" onto the end of it is putting the blame on them.
And as a system that is 100% queer, seeing people boiling an overwhelmingly queer and kink-friendly show (with a key message of redemption and steep slant against corporal punishment, "from the evil to the strange") down to "icky cartoon that shouldn't exist" leaves one massively bitter taste in our mouth. Even if we didn't have HH fictionkin and fictives.
tl;dr,
You can discuss the harmful aspects of a series, or attitude of the creator, without demanding people never interact with the series at all and shaming kinfolks/fictives for the creation + popularity of the series.
"If you get fictives easily, don't get involved with this source media because it's problematic" has to be one of the most wild takes we've seen in a while.
Thoughts being put together, will expand more on this later.
#hazbin hotel stuff#gonna stick with “source-course” I guess#long post#adding on the biggest disclaimer that people who are part of impacted vulnerable groups SHOULD be listened to#while also adding that not all of said people within those groups will agree AND that some arguments and attitudes are still not okay#blaming fictionkin and fictives for being from a shitty source will never be okay#(saying this as a trans system who has seen some absolutely rancid takes from other trans people and/or other systems)

Battle of Alberta 2022 Survey Results
It’s time my friends! If you would like to see previous surveys, here is 2021 and 2020 for your reference.
We had a total of 16 respondents to the survey. The average BoAB reader is female, age 19-24, and Canadian. At least half of respondents this year identified as Albertan, which is a bigger proportion than previously. Most of you live in Canada, and of those in Alberta most live in Edmonton followed by Calgary or Lethbridge.
Read on for graphs and some notes about what’s new!
Demographics
A larger proportion this year are female while fewer are male, and more of you seem to be questioning. Whether you’re new readers or are old readers figuring some stuff out, we’re happy to have you!
Less of you are 14-24 year olds, but more of you are identifying as 25-30+. (I know I made a couple people feel old with that last category and I apologize, I can add a bit more nuance next year if you like). Again, either some new folks or some of you are just aging, no problem!
Most of you are from Canada, which is not unusual. We have more folks from outside of North America than previously, however.
A larger proportion of you consider yourselves Albertan. This year, we have fewer people who visit and more people who have never been.
More of you once again live in Edmonton - even with more responses, the proportions of this graph stayed about the same as last year.
This was a new question for 2022. This is basically what I expected, some of you are definitely more well-travelled than I am in the province! I also felt I should have specified that this question can be answered by all respondents, whether you live in Alberta or elsewhere.
Blog
Those of you who followed via IAMP or because of me stayed about the same. This year we had less people looking for Hetalia OCs and more looking up stuff about places in Alberta, which is definitely a significant shift. Feeling the pressure for sure now :)
Art maintains its position in number one; interestingly “culture” shot up there (is that something we have?) while meta fell, and the rest sort of jostled around a little. I might owe some of that to the phrasing of “connection to Hetalia”, seeing as I’ve done little to anchor this comic in the Hetalia canon and therefore there’s a drop in people who were looking for that content above. At least, that’s my supposition.
When I made this question I realized I had done very little other than asks, which isn’t a bad thing. I’m glad you liked ‘em!
Historical events muscled its way to the top this year, and in tandem with the next question I’ve definitely been thinking about how to deal with that. More on that later, but I also find it interesting that Asks fell significantly here.
I really tried to narrow this down to three things I was considering on working on or wrapping up so as not to scatter my focus too much, but of course a couple of you did steer your answers differently. The historical focus is definitely the winner here though.
I meant to just do simple timelines, but the more I think of it the more I feel I need to tell some sort of cliff’s notes “story” of Alberta in order to situate the characters and to accommodate readers who aren’t familiar with either the broad strokes of Alberta or Canadian history in general. It’s difficult to undertake such a task, but I promise I have been :) While the characters featured here span only a couple hundred years at most, there are broader scopes I need to consider in order to fully explain the contexts in which they came to be and to relate to one another.
Characters
So here’s where things get interesting...
All of you love Calvin. It’s clearly not just because of hometown pride. Is it because I torture him? Is it because he has a sort of stupidity naivety that makes you want to take care of him? Is it because he’s a scorpio and could snap any minute? Why??????
Secondly: a significant proportion of you have decided Jasper is your favourite of all the characters before I’ve even published any design. Wow. Mac has also dropped off the list entirely.
Okay, Jasper is no surprise here. I also think it is HILARIOUS that not only did your favourite character score low, he even scored below That Guy On the Fridge. Very interesting.
And oddly enough, I guess you guys must have felt sorry for Ed not being your favourite so he finally won the battle this year by a significant proportion instead of a deadlock. Bravo! We also had respondents refuse to choose and who summoned the rats back from last year. Special thanks to everyone for restraining themselves from naming any ucp politicians this go.
Special thanks also to those of you who left a kind comment at the end or who helped me update some of my playlists! <3 Thanks again to everyone who filled out the survey, I’ve really enjoyed collecting your responses and I hope to hear from you again next year!

hi, can you please expand what you meant with "! I've noticed there's been more of a shift towards fruk (or maybe that's just been in my circle), especially as England's characterization in the fandom has shifted" i haven't been around much, so i was wondering what has changed about england's characterization around the fandom? sorry to bother!!
[For reference, this comment was from a post about the prevalence of USUK in the Hetalia fandom]
Never a bother anon! I’m always happy to answer asks like these :)
I suppose I need to preface things by saying that, as far as the manga and anime are concerned, England’s character has not changed. What has changed is the fandom’s perception of his character, which has developed gradually over time.
Back when Hetalia was first kicking off and gaining popularity (2008-13), representation of all the characters in fics and artwork and other posts was largely reflective of the characterization given to everyone in the anime, so think old Studio Deen animation and humour from Seasons 1-4. The English dub was EXTREMELY influential in this regard as well, as unlike most other anime, the Hetalia fandom was more knowledgeable about the English dub than the English sub, and quite frankly the dub is like a 100 on a scale of 1-5 in terms of craziness in comparison with the original Japanese version. 🙃
Putting it bluntly, the first few seasons of Hetalia were a raging stereotypical clusterfuck and OH BOY did the fandom latch on to this. This is where you get France saying ‘honhonhon~😏🌹🍑🍑🍆’ every second sentence, Prussia talking about his ‘awesome five meters’ and how he’s going to invade ‘invade everyone’s vital regions’, Hungary and Japan being huge yaoi fujioshis, Russia being a creepy sadist, sw’d’n n’t ‘s’ng v’w’ls - I could go on about this for weeks but I’ve already given myself whiplash so..
Now we get to England, who quickly became a paragon of the tsundere trope in which he yelled ‘I..it’s not like I like you b..baka’ every 30 seconds and was often pictured expressing himself with the characteristic ‘tch’ so beloved by fic writers. England was shipped with two people primarily: America and France, though usually any fic involving France involved France pouncing and attempting to ‘steal Iggy’s innocence’ until the heroic America jumped in to save the damsel in distress. So then England’s primary characterization was that of a more feminine, prickly little thing who was actually just really bad at expressing his feelings and totally had the hots for America (also he always bottomed...like almost exclusively).
Starting around 2016, when the World Stars manga was put on hiatus, a fandom made a major shift from canon content to fanon headcanons and the like (because we had to supplement ourselves with content somehow lol), which started to change the perceptions of many of the characters, and usually for the better as people starting creating complex character studies and delving into national history to make these really awesome narratives that far outstripped the canon.
England’s character shift was absolutely hilarious because, while he too became more complex, he also became an ABSOLUTE BASTARD™. Like we’re talking stinky rat bastard who sleeps in the trash; has 20 kids whose names he forgets, a drinking problem, and anger management issues; thinks that the puke-coloured sweater vest he bought in the 80s and tan corduroys are the pinnacle of fashion; old man jenkins dislocates his hip every Tuesday; and “just remember no-one can hate you more than you hate yourself” sorta guy. All in good fun of course, but his character did a COMPLETE 180 which is frankly the funniest thing I’ve seen.
It’s been a wild ride anon, I’m sure there’s many a person who would be more than willing to volunteer up more examples because lord knows there’s more 😭
#aph#hws#hetalia#i'd like to apologize in advance for making some people remember these things#2010 was a wild time what can i say#aph england#aph america#aph france#aph usuk#aph fruk#aph prussia#aph hungary#aph japan#aph russia#thank you as well to the other anons who shared their thoughts!

Frankenstein’s Meme - Day 16
(Full list of questions at the bottom, under the cut. Previous answers can be found here.)
16. Do you remember your first OTP? Who was in it?
It...might actually be AusHun (Hetalia)? Or else, if we go by my fics, Sydney Carton and the seamstress from A Tale of Two Cities? (Which is maybe a weird choice, as *SPOILER ALERT FOR CLASSIC LITERATURE* they share one scene together and then die, but hey, impossible unrealized ships are my jam, and I watched the 1935 film in my early twenties and fell hard back in love with the story, and Carton in particular as a character, and their scene together, and Ronald Colman’s performance in general???)
But the thing is, when I first really got into fics and fandom, it was more for genfic and character studies than anything related to shipping (even canonical shipping). I certainly dabbled with pairings (both reading and writing them), but was never super invested in any of them for quite a long time. (The closest I maybe came, pre-Carton/Seamstress, was a weird fascination with the Reno/Tifa pairing from FFVII. But I still wouldn’t say that was anything near an OTP, so...)

(Originally posted by trobadora, on DW.)
1. What’s changed about your fandom life in the last 365 days? 2. Your newest fandom. 3. You’ve got your OTP, you have to throw a third into the mix (from the same fandom), creating an OT3. Who is the OTP, and in your opinion, why would they make a perfect third for them? 4. What are the origins of your penname/username? 5. What’s a fandom that you wish had a bigger following? 6. What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it? Not necessarily your oldest fandom, but a fandom that you started and still continue to read/write/create content for in some way. 7. What would make you leave a fandom, or prevent you from getting into it in the first place? 8. Squicks - What are some things that squick you in fandom - not necessarily “icky”, though it can be. From anything involving blood, to bad grammar. 9. What’s the hardest thing about writing, and why are titles the Worst™? 10. Do you have a fandom that you follow - either regularly or casually - with little to no knowledge of canon? 11. Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed. 12. A ship you have never liked and probably never will. 13. Do you prefer art, fic, or vids? Why? Bonus: If someone was to give you a fandom gift, what format would it be? 14. A pairing – platonic, romantic or sexual – that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind. 15. What was the first thing you ever contributed to a fandom? 16. Do you remember your first OTP? Who was in it? 17. What is your favourite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)? 18. How many fandoms have you written for? How many have you been in, and how many are you still in? 19. Has social media caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why? 20. What fandom broke your heart? 21. Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you dislike or even loathe.) 22. Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend. 23. Your rarest fandoms. 24. A fandom you’ve abandoned and why. 25. Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending? 26. A trope which you are virtually certain to love in any fandom. 27. A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom. 28. How did you first get into fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote fic for? 29. Have you ever tried to write for a fandom or ship, and found you couldn’t? 30. Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).
#personal#meme#frankenstein's meme#i guess carton/seamstress it is pfft#as strange as it is they really were my first ''I WILL SHIP THIS UNTIL THE DAY I DIE'' pairing#but i feel#aushun#should get an honorable mention just for being the first mainstream/traditional OTP?#a tale of two cities#i had such a good streak going with answering these#and then i had a busy weekend ahahaha

The Sides and Anime They Watch, Because I’m a Weeb and I Can:
I tagged all the anime mentioned in order. Please feel free to add-on your thoughts!
Starting off with Virgil because the thought that sparked this idea was me contemplating if Virgil watched Death Note. Canonically? Maybe, but I’d rather like to think that he watched the first two episodes because he thought it matched his aesthetic, but he soon realized just how much killing was really involved and then dropped it because that’s the last thing he needs to think about. Death Note is a little too realistic for him to be comfortable with. He enjoys watching high production fantasy that has a darker vibe, but it always ends well for the heroes. His favorite anime is Soul Eater, and I will die on that hill. Honorable mentions: Fire Force (same creator) and Demon Slayer.
Whenever Virgil is in a particularly bad mood, Patton will do his best to coax him into watching iyashikei (healing) anime. Virgil’s favorite show to watch with Patton is My Roommate is Cat, but he would rather watch the next episode of Death Note than to tell Patton that. This works both ways: whenever Patton is really low Virgil will SUBTLY tell Patton that they should watch the next episode of How to Keep a Mummy or K-ON.
Patton will watch really anything. He enjoys iyashikei, he loves watching good ol’ shounen protagonists winning, romance anime makes him soft, and he ADORES a good, simple comedy. He can just hop in to what anyone else is watching a have a good time. He has many favorite anime including but not limited to Kakushigoto, Little Witch Academia, Fairy Tail, Sailor Moon, Princess Jellyfish, and Saiki K. Yes, he has found a reason to cry to every single title he’s seen.
This turned out to be way longer than I thought it would. Roman, Logan, Janus, and Remus under the cut!
Patton and Roman have the most similar tastes and motivations in anime. If they’re watching a show together it’s a show that is either hype af, or gay af. They watch a lot of big name shows together like My Hero Academia and Yuri on Ice.
On his own, Roman watches a lot (and I mean ALOT) of shoujo and romance. He is literally in love with Prince Izana from Snow White with the Red Hair, and there’s nothing you could say to me that would change my mind. He also loves lowkey projecting onto Aoi Tsubaki from Kakuriyo because of how many kind and pretty boys there are. He is sad, and lonely, and these shows fill a bit of that void. His favorite anime is Given. Period. Roman is such a Haruki kinnie. Tell me I’m wrong. You can’t.
Logan watches the least anime out of the sides... or so they all think. The truth is that Patton showed him Dr. Stone one day because “it’s super sciencey” but Logan didn’t give it a fair chance because he was stuck on the fact that is literally impossible for a beam of light to turn the outer layer of only HUMAN organic material into stone, and then have the humans still be alive hundreds of years later. Weeks after watching the first three episodes, he started really thinking about some of the technicalities and continued to watch episode 4. He took notes the entire time and had finished season 1 in a day. He then wrote a 30+ page analysis in his free time discussing why the things that Senku made should or should not have worked... as a passion project.
He then went on to do similar things with shows like Cells at Work and even Hetalia believe it or not. He even used the metaphorical ways that the countries in Hetalia interact as a way to compare the way he interacts with the others. He also really connects with Aggretsuko on a personal level.
Janus is actually the one who watches the least anime, but nobody believes him when he says that. He’s seen a few episodes of some big titles here and there, but nothing hits different like Talentless Nana. It’s a new show this season so I won’t say much, other than the fact that it is, without a doubt, Janus’s favorite thing. Every new episode is a game of seeing if he can figure out Nana’s plan before she reveals it. He loves outwitting the people who are doing the outwitting. He kins Nana. That’s just a fact. I’m sorry.
Remus? Short answer: ℌệ𝔫𝔱ằ𝔦 (lol). Long answer: Sarazanmai, Blood Blockade Battlefront and Akudama Drive (he thinks he kins Cutthroat, but he’s really more of a Hoodlum). He watched Sarazanmai for the butt humor, but stayed for the emotional, in-depth character arcs and healthy MLM representation. The problem is nobody else can trust a show that Remus recommends especially when the butt stuff is so heavy in the first few episodes, so he has nobody to talk about it with. He is left with the suffering of not being able to express his love for the show. This is the only thing about Remus that I will ever be able to relate to.
Because Patton wanted Remus to feel appreciated, they watched all 12 episodes of Sarazanmai together over the span of the 3 days. It was a bumpy ride, but Patton ended up adoring it in the end and cried.
Please add more! What other shows do some of the sides watch together? Do you think one of the sides wouldn’t like one of the show I listed? Did I miss a show that they would like?
I post and reblog anime and manga stuff on my main @nonchalantatall if you want to discuss any of the shows I mentioned! :)

fic writer tag meme
i was almost finished when i lost this post TWICE!!! TWICE
tagged by america-oreosandkitkats, which tumblr is not letting me @ ! i love new updated tumblr! it’s my favorite!
AO3 name: kat_blue, however i haven’t actually uploaded anything. it was #newyearsresolution2020 to start uploading some writing, just to say “i’m D O N E im not going to touch it again” but...2020 got in the way
Fandoms: overwhelmingly hetalia where i set up camp back in 2010-2011 and never moved on, harry potter but only in headcanons/crossovers, Discworld but don’t test me, uh, The Outsiders, yes that book we read in middle school, Coco (2017) because im a corporate sellout
Tropes: 30 AU Pileup, Historical AU, 20 Minutes into the Past/Future, Gen, Enemies-to-Lovers, Friends-to-Lovers, Hookup-to-Something-More, Enemies-to-Lovers-But-They’re-Still Enemies, Unhealthy/Codependent Relationship (romantic, platonic, familial...), Breakup Fic, For Want of a Nail, Everyone’s Dead Dave/Tragic End, Postcredits Scene/whatever you’d call it when you write what would happen after canon says “the end,” Character Study (not sure if that’s a trope but it’s mostly what I write)
Number of fics: ...a bunch. i write in several documents, some of which are inaccessable to me because of a computer crash. i honestly have no idea
Fic I spent the most time on: considering it’s not even finished, Sun Down (WWI Prussia that was supposed to be PruHun but turned into an extended character study/war novel/just torturing the guy but he kind of deserves it) has been limping along for 2+ years...although mostly nowadays I just poke at it occasionally
Fic I spent the least time on: i have no idea, i’ve got a bad habit of coming back to a “finished” fic months or even years later and messing with it. Maybe The Witch Dreaming, a weird little Nyo!EnglandxGreece fic that needed more notes explaining what it was about than it had actual words. it was one of those *sudden inspiration* *scribble scribble scribble* “wait, what the fuck is this?” fics
Longest fic: Brother, Can You Spare a Dime (RusAme domestic fluff & death threats in the Great Depression/Stalinist USSR, burns so slow they barely manage to kiss right before WWII breaks out, ends badly) clocks in at roughly 21K and it’s not even half finished. technically my main WIP but i don’t focus
Shortest fic: The World in the Palm of Your Hand, a tiny little Revolution!America character study, 147 words including its entire title? i know i used to write drabbles & flashfics but that document is...problematic right now
Most hits/Most kudos/Most comment threads/Most bookmarks: yeaaaah, about that...see “haven’t uploaded anything.” i think i uploaded a couple of fics to tumblr, possibly an old account, but if i did nobody ever read ‘em
Total word count: eeesh, probably at least 150K if we’re counting everything
Favorite fic I wrote: it changes but im still fond of Skin, a bunch of little spamano...vignettes? that i started back around 2014 and still enjoy, which isn’t something i say about a lot of my old writing
Fic you want to rewrite/expand on: ...all of them. if i have to choose probably Take the Long Way Home, a partially-finished NorwayxSouth Italy Human!ExchangeStudent!AU that i used to love back in its day of ~2012-2014 but now is very...dusty. writing style changed a lot from what it was back then, lots of “new to the fandom” tropes, lots of “real humans don’t act like this it’s just more dramatic” plot holes...i could do a lot with rewriting it, i just generally work on more recent things and i leave it fossilized and occasionally say “but what if”
Share a bit of a WIP or a story idea you’re planning on:
Brother, Can You Spare a Dime: What was supposed to happen was that they’d be met by the secret police at the train station, and U.S. Personification Alfred Jones would be arrested as a foreign spy.
What actually happened was that after giving up at the train station, one of Ivan’s bosses’ secretaries met them at the front of Ivan’s office building, where he waited and kicked his heel against the wall because he couldn’t light a cigarette without dropping America’s wrist and no amount of exasperated sighs from America was going to convince him it was safe to do so, and when the human secretary did get out there all he said was, “The police aren’t coming.”
Ivan closed his eyes. “Why are the police not coming?”
“They say you seem like you’ve got it handled, Comrade Braginsky,” said the secretary.
“How am I supposed to handle him?” Ivan said through his teeth, waving America’s arm, “Keep a grip on him like he’s a child until they feel fit to interrogate him?”
<<Hi,>> said America sardonically.
The secretary pressed his lips thin. “I don’t know, comrade.”
“He’s an American spy!”
“I am not being spy!” America said. “Not!”
The human looked between them, then said to Russia, “I don’t know what else to tell you, Comrade Braginsky. I don’t have the authority to override the chief of police.”
Slowly, Russia rubbed his eyes. “...I know, comrade. Very well. Take down a message for me, will you?”
Russia’s bosses received a note, in lieu of Russia returning to work as he’d planned: Have in custody suspected American spy, name of ALFRED JONES (note English spelling). Contact American consulate as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Russia would take America to the only place he knew he could keep an eye on the foreign nation.
--
[and then they were roommates. I don’t know nearly enough about Soviet Russia to depict it with any amount of accuracy but I’m writing gay country anime boys, this isn’t the place to look for a documentary.]
i know a lot of people who follow me write fanfiction so if you do and you see this, you’re tagged! let’s try to tag people who i know write: @gothicmagpie @knowledgequeenabc @convenientalias uhh I don’t know how many of my other followers are both active & writers
#tag meme#fanfic meme#quaranmeme#even right now im like 'no DONT POST THAT SECTION I PLAN ON CHANGING IT' which is why it's important to work on your new year's resolutions

Reality: They are not biological brothers.
England took America under his wing when he colonized the latter. Initially, England, France, and Finland argued over who would become America’s older brother given that their cultural influence affected America’s appearance.
Source: Hetarchive, The Battle for America.
England wins, and while he does initially reject the label of older brother, he does become America’s guardian/ older brother.
Remember that onii-chan ‘older brother’ is a term of affection and adoration in Japanese. It is not meant to be taken literally as the English-speaking fandom has done in the past.
The lacking blood relation is further proven by a character note stating that England is the son of four siblings, those being Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland.
Source: Hetarchive (Bamboo Thicket, eng trans., August 4th, 2010).
“Yes. Though England is the United Kingdom, when he comes back home, he becomes the fourth son of four siblings. His older brothers, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, are three people.”
Another neglected piece of canon information is that America stops identifying as England’s younger brother after declaring his independence. Adoptive relationships in the series are fluid; they’re tied to political relations between states. Once that political relationship ends, so does the ‘adoptive’ interpersonal relationship. Other examples of this would be China and Japan and France, Holy Rome, and Chibitalia under the Roman Empire.
Source: Hetarchive, Cleaning out the Storage.
Misconception: America’s not the hero he claims to be given his history.
Source: Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 23.
Reality: Hetalia reflects stereotypes. Using that model, most Americans believe that their interference in other countries is for the greater good (e.g., democracy). This disconnected naivety is reflected in America’s personality. He truly does believe that he’s a hero.
Ex: He sees the world in terms of good guys and bad guys.
Source: Hetarchive (Bamboo Thicket, eng trans., February 26th, 2015) + Hetarchive, Germany is playing an impossible game.
Ex: He comes up with obtuse plans to save the world.
Source: Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 25.
I should also note a sub-misconception to this: America, like all other personifications, is not privy to top government secrets. He does follow orders, however.
Ex: America, who saw the Roswell incident in person, is told that the spaceship was simply a weather balloon.
Source: Hetarchive, Assault ☆ The Neighbour’s Roswell Incident.
Misconception: He’s selfish and doesn’t care about his friends.
Reality: While America can be egotistical, most of which is unintentional, he does care about his friends and will go out of his way for them.
In war, he’ll only do something in return for a favor + he’ll come off as narcissistic
Source: Hetarchive, Volume 5 + Hetarchive, Volume 1 + Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 23.
…but at the same time, he’s also very sweet and considerate.
Ex: He cooks a giant welcome meal when Japan comes to stay with him.
Source: Hetarchive, Volume 4.
And then there’s this: point is, he tried.
Source: Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 30.
Misconception: America’s oblivious about world geography, so he’s stupid.
Reality: This is another American stereotype. On the other hand, America is more than capable of learning and correcting his ignorance.
Ex: The Lithuania’s Out-Sourcing series begins with England asking America if Lithuania can live with and work for him. While America’s initially clueless about where Lithuania is on a map, later strips show that he’s taken the time to learn about the latter’s history.
Source: Hetarchive, Lithuania’s Out-Sourcing pt 1 & 2.
Bonus facts:
He likes archaeology.
Source: Hetarchive, Volume 5.
He once starred in a hair commercial.
Source: Hetarchive, Until It Becomes Buried in the Cabinets.
His hobbies include making movies.
Source: Hetarchive, Micro-Character Profiles.
Contrary to what he says, he does care about England’s opinion. So much so that America is too afraid to show England his movies in fear of having it being critically ripped apart.
Source: Hetarchive, Volume 2 + Hetascanlations, World Stars Chapter 26.

RULES
AU Rules
This AU is 14+ only. You must be 14 years of age or older to apply.
This AU is application-based. This means you must fill out and submit an application, and have it approved, before making a blog. This is so we don’t have any misunderstandings or doubles of characters.
If you make a blog before your application is accepted, you will not be allowed to join even if you submit a proper application. This is not an open AU for anyone to make blogs for.
We’re not saying you can’t make My Hero Academia/Hetalia crossovers, or blogs for said crossovers! We don’t own the rights to this concept, obviously, but to be a part of this specific group of blogs requires going through an application process. You can even interact with people in this AU without being a part of it.
Don’t try to control, change, or rewrite someone else’s characters or quirks. You can provide advice and constructive criticism, but also keep in mind not everyone may want it.
Please understand, while the island these characters live on isn’t located in America, the age of consent there is still 18. As an American admin, it feels wrong to see 15 and 18 year old characters in relationships, even if it’s fictionalised.
No shipping wars! As long as a ship isn’t inherently harmful (pedophilia or CONFIRMED incest between family members, things like that), don’t start arguments/debates over ships.
That being said: Relationships are going to be different than canon (or even one’s personal headcanons) in this AU. Not everyone you expect to be related will be related, and vice-versa. Ask, don’t assume.
Once your application has been accepted and you’ve been cleared to make a blog, the URL of your blog should be “ask-hetaaca-country”. i.e. ask-hetaaca-prussia or ask-hetaaca-2pgreece. This keeps it organised and allows people to find blogs easier!
Please state clearly, on your blog, which role you chose, your character and their human name, and what your muse’s quirk is (only if they have a quirk, of course)!
Please come off anon or leave a URL if you wish to reserve characters! Reservations will not be accepted if there’s no way to verify your identity!
Reservations last 30 days from when the reservation ask is answered. Meaning, if you send in an ask to reserve a character, and it’s answered on 05/26/2020, it’ll last until 06/26/2020. (Using mm/dd/yyyy format!)
Muse Rules
You may only apply for one muse in the beginning. If you prove you can handle two muses, and update regularly (i.e. several times a week) for at least one month, you may apply for a second muse.
After getting your second muse, you must prove you can handle a third muse, and be active on both blogs/with both muses for an additional two months before being allowed to apply.
Don’t try to bring a second/third muse in without applying for it/before your application is accepted. Just because you’re in the AU already doesn’t mean your application will be accepted.
If you try to apply for a muse before you’ve reached the minimum time requirement, or while you’re inactive on your blogs, your application will be denied. We check these things.
2Ps, Nyos and OCs are allowed!
Hero/Villain names are mandatory! But if you haven’t thought of one yet, you can always ask for help and come back to it!
Muses will be addressed with their human names or their hero names, not their country/representative names.
Don’t make your muse overpowered! We all want to have fun, but it doesn’t work if you make your character literally stronger than everyone else’s (this especially applies to the students of World Academy W)!
Don’t make your muse “Number One Hero”! To keep peace in the AU there are no such things as “Top Heroes” in Perpetuum. There may be some that are more “relevant” than others, but that’s about it!
Quirks such as All for One/One for All are strictly prohibited. (See the point about overpowered muses)
If you wish to change a large aspect of your muse’s character (such as age, quirk, class, stuff like that), you must ask a moderator! This way, things don’t get messy.
For those interested in Student muses: Each class has a cap of 12 students. Once there are 12 students in a class, you won’t be able to put a muse in there until someone leaves.

Ok, someone (@gucciasswitch ) dared me to do whole list and who am I to resist
1. What was your first OTP?
Probably Royai. FullMetal Alchemist was my first anime I watched on TV and I immediately fell in love with relationships between Riza and Roy. I used to fantasize about them all the time. I still do love them.
Also I remember I wanted Zuko to end up with Katara
2. What is your current OTP?
Definitely EnjiRei. I think about them and their family all the time. That's just what I do when I ship - I maladaptive daydream. What I like about them is ice and fire aesthetics is how fucked up everything is but Rei still somehow can forgive him or at least try to? He somehow remember her favourite things? I want to know more about them. Like, how exactly Enji found her? What happened to Touya?
I also like BakuCamie, ShinTsuyu, ZenNezu, still Royai, Huwumi, Natsuo x his girlfriend, maybe MomoIida, Jeankasa, Sabigiuy, Levihan, Miritama, Levifar
3. Do you have any OT3/OT+ ships? What are your favorites?
Mmmmmm, probably no. Though, I once saw OchaTodoDeku and it looks wholesome
4. What is/are your favorite trope(s)?
Tropes, tropes... I like what is called "unsexy erotica" by some author on ao3. Like, when characters are processing their feelings and it's the end it's not really sexy though it still somehow amazes me. It's not really a trope though, I saw only one fanfic with that.
I love redemption arcs made well, bad people turning good and having the love no one ever gave them before (duh)
5. What is/are your least favorite trope(s)?
Definitely soulmates au, it makes me cringe somehow. Or is it not a trope? Whatever
6. Do you have a certain kind of ship you’re more attracted to?
I often ship canon ships. Also for whatever reason I enjoy different-sex couples more often. Also if I see a person with fire powers I'll connect the dots them with someone with water/ice, it's just math... Jk... Unless
7. Are most of your ships “pure” or “problematic”?
Actually, they are mostly pure. But also I ship EnjiRei and someone gonna send me anon hate for this, ehhh
8. Who is the most shippable person you can think of?
Objectively it will be the main character of any series cause they have the most interactions. For me personally it's Enji cause I love him right now and I like to explore his relationship with everyone, like, I can occasionally ship him with Hawks, All Might, Burnin', Rei and some OCs
9. Are there any fandoms you don’t have any ships for?
The ones I am not in, duh. Actually, I am not really active shipper... In one punch man I don't ship anyone? But it's not like I am really in fandom khkhkh
10. Do characters have to have canon interactions for you to ship them?
Yeah, if it's not ship with OC (obviously). There can be exceptions like hetalia cause characters are basically countries
11. What makes a great ship in your own opinion?
Logic and some shared life philosophy/goal/struggles. Or just deep feeling and will to understand one another. Dunno
12. What drives you away from a ship?
If I don't understand why, basically. Also any mentor x student relationships are very big no-no for me. I don't like this power dynamic when one person is doomed to see another as they are above them. And also incest is nah
13. Is there anything you ship but refuse to interact with the community for?
Probably EnjiRei? I am kinda scared cause I don't want people to treat me badly based on that, ya know? Actually, I am trying to be more open about it cause fuck society, I am tired of your shit
14. Has a fanbase ever made you ship or not ship something? Why?
I stopped shipping eruri cause I got very fed up with fans being nasty, I guess. Like, they always tried to prove that it is canon and I just got tried and switched to levihan?.. Also I probably started to ship huwumi because of fanbase. I just never thought of the ship. But the most important deed is that fanbase brought me Dabi is Touya theory. Thank you, strangers on youtube
15. Do you like/participate in ship wars? Why or why not?
Define "ship war"? I sometimes enjoy observing people arguing but mostly I am annoyed when someone shit on character or ship. So sometimes I guess I can write something like "bitch can you stop" but usually I try to stay out of it. I guess I am pro-shiping and anti anti most of the time
16. Are there any ships you just can’t/don’t understand? What are they?
Ereri, Dekumight, RoyEd... Do you see the pattern? I highly dislike mentor x student ships. Also incest ships are no-no even if everyone is an adult for a simple reason - I actually have brothers and this shit creeps me out
17. Are there any popular ships that you just don’t like? What are they?
Ereri. It's the only banned tag I have (edit: not anymore, I am trying to ban enji antis). Also probably RoyEd but FMA fandom is not really active or I am not really into it
18. What is your favorite unpopular ship?
EnjiRei........
19. Do you prefer fluff, angst, or smut for your ships?
It depends. I mostly don't like smut just for smut but if there's some feelings and processing of them, ya know... Angst goes well with everything though I recently found out I kinda dislike seeing violence and suffering in fanart... I actually like comedy more than pure fluff, I am kinda Mr Nighteye and believe in power of humor
20. Do you prefer bigger fanbases or smaller ones?
Bigger ones cause bigger fanbase = more content to CONSUME
21. Have you ever received hate for a ship you liked?
The most close thing to hate I received was this: https://tonya-the-chicken.tumblr.com/post/189156146100/you-ship-enjirei-and-call-urself-a-feminist
Nothing more probably...
22. Do you have any ships that you ship, but would never want to see as canon?
I think no. I am quite ok with any of my ships becoming canon
23. Have you ever had a ship become canon, but you didn’t like how it was portrayed?
Nah... Though it still can happen since many of my fandoms have actively running mangas/animes
24. What is your favorite canon ship?
Define "canon ship"? Probably Royai
25. What are your favorite ships from a dead fandom?
Sweden x Ukraine from Hetalia. I used to ship ot hard XD I had a whole blog dedicated to it! I just don't know dead fandoms, ok
26. What are your favorite shipping scenes?
Nothing in particular but when a characters does something stupid/risk his life to save/help their love interest. Like, when Zenitsu wet to spiders forest to save Nezuko... Or when Jean saved Mikasa from titan.
27. What are your views on reader x canon ships?
You do you, I guess, but my opinion is NO
28. What is your best shipping advice?
Have fun yourself and don't ruin it for others. You are free to block anyone and anything, it doesn't make you a bad person. And also try to think critically about views shared on social networks, like, not everything in true.
I'll also add here about media affecting reality: aS A fuTuRE PSyChoLoGisT I can say that YES, THEY DO AFFECT EACH OTHER. But often Internet can't get all the nuances and ends up censoring everything. In university we had an assignment where we analyzed modern media. And TV news collected around 30 media risks meaning that materials can affect (usually child's) brain in negative way. What now, are we supposed to not show violence and war? "Destroy everything that can traumatize a child" is a bad solution because of many reasons. Kids are not supposed to read 18+ content, kids are not supposed to spend time on Internet without parental control, kids are not supposed to watch a lot of stuff without an adult's presence. But they do and it's not fault of people who create 18+ / "problematic" content.
29. Do you like OCs (Original Characters)?
Yes, I do, if it's not self-insert OC, you know? I have some myself but usually not for shipping
30. What are some of your favorite shipping blogs?
What is shipping blog?.. Ok, I guess that people who post about ship or what??? Eh...
I'll recommend you to just look up blogs I follow, whatever, I'm tired
#ask game#gone wrong#get to know me#I won't tag itwith characters#maybe I'll tag EnjiRei cause if you ship it to hmu or whatever#enjirei#bye

I just want you to realise something. Netherlands is extremely old, sure its ok to be attracted to old people when you didnt meet when it was illegal but Canada is very young oof. So their age gap is huge and this would be the same as a 20y/o in a relationship with a 70+y/o. Least the conditional immortality makes Ned look good haha. Thoughts?
yeah, the age gap is something i have taken into consideration with this ship and you know, after nearly 10 years of me shipping them, this is the first time someone has ever brought this up to me? but okay, i’ll bite.
first, i want to make it 100% clear that i am extremely against romanticizing pedo/philic relationships in both fiction and rl. and even tho each hetalia character is like centuries old in real time, i am still not okay with very obviously younger-looking ones (lat.via, liech.tenstein, etc) being shipped with adult characters.
however, we were never given a clear definition on how nations age in the hetaliaverse, only vague hints. most of the modern nations appear to be in their late teens to mid twenties physically and mentally. does that realistically reflect the age differences between the old world and new world countries? no, but it is what we have in this canon. it mostly seems like kid nations grow up pretty fast, then the aging slows down once they gain independence/become a fully formed country and thus grow up. but then there are outliers like moldova, who’s still a child. so basically, it’s messy and kinda up to what anyone makes of it.
yes, of course ned is older and more experienced. but i do not think he is mentally an old man, like you seem to imply. from what it seems, the nations mental age matches their physical age and that doesn’t make him that much older than canada (and since neither of them have confirmed canon ages, i usually headcanon canada in his early to mid 20s and ned in his late 20s to early 30s). i also do not see them developing romantic feelings for each other until after wwii, and by then canada was an adult with his own fare share of stuggles and experiences. moreover, despite their age difference, when you look at their irl countries, they are pretty much on equal footing. canada is independent, netherlands is no longer an empire and canada was never his colony, they are both developed, progressive countries.
now, if you see this differently somehow and if you go by rl country ages and thus this ship makes you uncomfortable, that’s fine. blacklist it/unfollow me/block me. i personally stick more with the character ages, because untimately i’m really shipping the characters, not the actual countries. and like i said, ned*can has been my otp for almost 10 years now. my interpretations of them have evolved the more i learned about them and i always tried to take every aspect of their history and relations into consideration. i have also seen my fair share of them being depicted in extremely unhealthy ways in fanworks, which i wholly condemn.
with all that being said, please don’t try to start a discourse with me over this. i have been out of touch with this fandom lately and i am planning on leaving this blog by the end of the year. i do not want to spend my last few weeks here debating.

All writing asks!
Oh daaaamn! Thanks, bro!! @brynhildr13 !!!!
In response to this post!
1. What is your preferred place to write (notebook, laptop, cellphone, etc.)?
~Normally I try to do everything on my laptop in Zoho’s Notebook app. I seriously love the app, and there’s a desktop and mobile version that will sync so if you’re on the go you can still edit your notes! If I’m ever stuck I’ll hand write in a paper notebook and that usually works really well for me.
2. When did you start writing?
~I started writing back in the third grade, when I wrote and illustrated a comic series called The Evil Substitute Teacher from Mars! Obviously it was of a third grade quality and I had no intentions of being a writer at that point, but it was the first time I seriously flexed my skills even though it was just for fun!
I started writing fanfiction in my freshman year of high school.
3. What is your favorite thing to write?
~I love to write stories that take characters through intense emotional journeys. I absolutely love quality character development when you can track it from beginning to end.
4. Fluff or angst?
~Angst. I have little to no interest in writing a love story or love encounters as the primary plot. It’s hard to emulate the kinds of emotions people feel during those encounters when I’ve had minimal experience.
5. How would you describe your style?
~Hmmm . . . I would say . . . healthily balanced between pragmatics and prose. I try to make things as literal as I can when there’s action happening, but when I describe character’s emotions I literally love to pour on the cheese.
6. Where do you usually find inspiration?
~In general, for overall fanfic concepts I’ll find it in the source material, in a detail that wasn’t well-expanded. For specific ideas within a story, and for specific language to describe something I’ll borrow from both the source material and other writers in canon-based fics.
7. Do you listen to music to help you write?
~Hell yes.
8. What’s the biggest “challenge” for you as a writer?
~I love to write and I mainly write for myself - meaning I write the stories that I would want to read. But it’s extremely easy to fall into the “Nobody else will want to read this/Nobody is reading this = it must be bad and I’m a terrible writer” mindset. Surprisingly, that hits me harder than comparing myself to other writers. I understand and embrace that my style is different and the way I tell stories is unique. I actually really love how I write in comparison. I also struggle with pacing.
9. Where do you usually go to write (bedroom, living room, etc.)?
~When I’m at home, my bedroom. However, occasional changes in scenery do wonders for my inspiration, so I also love public libraries. When it’s very late at night (and it usually is because I’m a night owl to begin with and I work two jobs), I love to go to Denny’s. The people at my local Denny’s know me by name and I have the same server almost every time. They let me sit there for hours and hours (and if I do stay, I always leave a gigantic tip).
10. Can you give us a sneak peek of your current WIP?
~We’re mid-fight scene and this is unedited (I’m just really self-conscious lmao). It’s from my Dissidia fanfic, A Petal Among Thorns:
“’Cosmos's assassins!’ the Emperor sneered. He laughed, calling his staff from its resting place next to the throne. "I'm glad you could make it!" Removing Cloud first would be the most important thing. That, and deflecting Terra's magic. Cloud lifted his sword behind his head and slashed it down, and an arc of power careened off the blade towards him. The Emperor slammed the end of his staff into the ground and called a cluster of purple mines in its path. The Blade Beam collided with the mines and they detonated on contact in a cloud of smoke, the sound booming through Pandaemonium.”
11. How many stories have you written so far?
~18, though not all are complete.
12. What’s your favorite thing you ever wrote?
~In the first version of A Petal Among Thorns, I wrote a giant fight scene between a goddess and her warriors. It was intense and epic, and really maximized my skills at the time, and I loved every second of it.
13. How many chapters does your longest series have?
~Well, the new and improved version of A Petal Among Thorns has 45 posted chapters at 171k words, and I’m working on 46. The original Petal, which I finished, ended with 64 and had 108k words. Both are my longest so far. the most words, though, is Horrible Bosses with just under 200k.
14. What’s my favorite character/person to write for?
~This is so tough. But I think the Emperor for A Petal Among Thorns. He’s a classic kind of “Muahahaha” villain and I absolutely love getting into that evil headspace.
15. “OCs” or “Reader” inserts?
~If it’s an either/or question, then I say OCs. But nothing against Reader inserts. I love those, too. If it’s a do I read or write them question, then not really. I did one back when I was in high school. But I do read them and I support writers who do. There’s no such thing as cringe culture anymore so don’t let any elitists make you feel shitty for writing them.
16. Can you tell us anything about your current WIP?
~Sure. I’ve got four major ones:
1. A Petal Among Thorns (Dissidia Final Fantasy) - Cosmos just sent a group to take care of the Emperor since he’s been plaguing her and her warriors, but they’re caught unprepared when they realize he’s been secretly amassing power.
2. The Krypt (Mortal Kombat) - The group just found Master Hasashi and Kenshi, two out of the whole group they’ve been looking for. Their next order of business is to escape the spider caves, but it won’t be so easy.
3. Legends Yet (Final Fantasy XII) - Balthier and Fran are preparing to infiltrate the Archadian Palace to go after a special item. Little do they know the palace is more prepared than they thought.
4. This is My Punishment (Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus) - The Turks go looking for Vincent after he fails to report in. They confront Dr. Hojo about it, but he’s smug and disinterested.
17. How long was the longest fic you ever wrote?
~The longest COMPLETE story I ever wrote was the original A Petal Among Thorns with 64 chapters at 108k words. The longest INCOMPLETE story I have right now is the rewrite of A Petal Among Thorns with 46 chapters at 171k words. The most words I ever wrote was Horrible Bosses at just under 200k but with only 15 chapters.
18. What fandoms do you write for?
~Final Fantasy and Mortal Kombat and Hetalia are pretty much it right now, but a variety of FFs! I have written for Assassin’s Creed too, and Voltron, and I did one very self-indulgent Black Butler self-insert.
19. What is/are your favorite fandom author/authors?
~Poisonous Panda on AO3 (she used to have a tumblr but she deactivated for some reason), and Jaydee Grey on ff.net
20. Have you ever written an AU?
~No. All my stories take place in the actual world and parameters of canon. Although, I guess Petal could be considered one, since Rosa was never called to the cycles in any Dissidia game except Opera Omnia . . . ?
21. What’s your favorite AU trope?
~I don’t know if I have one. I read them but they’re not my go-to. I usually stick to canon stuff first.
22. A fanfiction cliché you can’t help but love?
~Hmmmm . . . I think descriptions of eyes. Not like, the word ‘orbs’ or anything, but the use of gemstones to describe color. I love the aesthetics associated with gemstones and their luster and how they shine, so if someone has “emerald green” eyes, or “amber” eyes, “crystalline blue”, etc. It makes me understand that their characters’ eyes are aglow with something, that they have character or passions or an ideas.
23. For how long have you been a fandom writer?
~I started my freshman year of high school, so . . . 10 years?
24. Have you ever had an idea for a story and forgot about it?
~No, I usually write stuff down right away. But as I develop my stories they rarely stay along the path enough to end up using the idea. Either the plot point is too out in left field now, or the characters are too far along in their journeys to make it work in-character.
25. What do you do to motivate yourself to write?
~Motivation? I don’t know her.
In all seriousness, I have ZERO self-control, so I can’t bribe myself. I mostly use my own desire to see my stories finished, plus nice comments and reviews from users on AO3 and ff.net. They’re so few and far between that a single one can make my entire day.
26. How did you find out you like to write?
~I’ve always enjoyed telling stories, from the third grade up! Making my own comics, and novelizing games I used to play, like Pac-Man World 2! I sort of never stopped, but WHAT I wrote matured as I grew older and joined fandom.
27. Are there any writers (fanfiction writers or not) that have inspired you to start writing?
~No, I was writing in general before I knew what fanfiction even was. But what inspired me to start writing fanfiction in particular was reading a Dissidia fic on ff.net by the name of Slash and Burn, that hasn’t updated since 2011. Reading that fic made me realize that the stories and scenarios I was coming up with surrounding these characters I loved could be transcribed and posted, and that other people were doing it too! I simply started writing down what I already was imagining for these characters outside of the events that happened in their games.
28. What’s your favorite fandom to write for?
~Final Fantasy, hands down!
29. Describe your style in three words.
1. Balanced
2. Introspective
3. Natural
30. What would you say is the most ‘famous’ fic you’ve ever written?
~Definitely The Krypt for Mortal Kombat on AO3. Writing for an active fandom is vastly, vastly different than writing for an older, stale one. The Krypt has the most comments and shares. On ff.net, it’s Horrible Bosses.
31. Blurbs or drabbles?
~Drabbles. Flesh it out more! I wanna be more immersed in whatever this is!
32. Have you ever written smut?
~I have written ONE SINGLE SHEEPISH scene in chapter 13 of Horrible Bosses. It was my very first attempt at smut and it is god-awful. Go check it out on AO3 if you want (and can withstand the second-hand embarrassment!)
33. How long does it usually take for you to write?
~LMAO that depends entirely on if I can get started for the day. If I can start and I can stay focused, I’ll easily write 3,000 words in one sitting. If I can start but I’m not focused I can usually still grind out anywhere between 100 - 500 or so words. But I’ll go days without touching Notebook if I can’t even get started.
34. What’s your favorite font to use when writing?
~I don’t put much stock in fonts but the one I’m using now on Notebook is Montserrat. I will change it every so often if I want something new though. Changes in scenery help my focus most times.
35. Which do you prefer to write: longer or shorter fics?
~Longer definitely. Shorter fics are easier but I love the challenges associated with aligning plot points with character development, as well as pacing.
36. how do you keep yourself inspired?
~My love for the fandoms I’m writing for usually does it. I love these universes and characters so much that I want to spend more time with them and watch them grow and change in ways that are or aren’t necessarily spelled out in canon. That, and the idea that since I’m writing stories I would want to read, then I’m the only one who can tell this story in my own way, so it has to be me.
37. Have you ever written something you didn’t like but posted anyway?
~Hell yeah. It be like that sometimes. Sometimes you stare and stare at a chapter and you absolutely hate it but you can’t figure out why and eventually you get pissed and say, “Fuck it, i have to post this to move on,” and you do. Specific examples for me are a few chapters in the new Petal.
38. What is your “strong suit” as a writer?
~I pride myself on my characterizations, to be honest. I feel like I have a good sense of who these characters are based on canon, and I can translate their reactions well to situations that test them.
39. What’s your favorite trope?
~I actually really, really love when characters are injured or slipping physically or emotionally, but they keep it to themselves for the sake of others. It can be for any reason - they don’t want to be a bother, they think they should be strong enough to handle it, etc.
40. How many likes do your fics usually get?
~Depends. The most I’ve gotten on anything was ~70 follows/favorites for Horrible Bosses on ff.net, and 128 kudos on The Krypt on AO3. Those are outliers, for the most part. My more popular fandom fics float around 20 - 40 kudos, my smaller fandom fics float around 5-10. The mean average for AO3 kudos across all my fics is 32, and the mean average for ff.net favorites is 14.
41. Have you ever used a prompt?
~No. it’s very, very hard for me to imagine characters into scenarios that I didn’t myself come up with?? I’m not sure why.
42. What is your weakness as a writer?
~Pacing.
43. Have you ever cried or felt any emotion while reading something you wrote?
~Yes, I cried when I wrote the aftermath of the large battle I talked about earlier, between Cosmos and her warriors in the first version of A Petal Among Thorns.
44. Have you ever done a collab with another writer?
~No, I’m too self-conscious.
45. One thing you love about fanfiction.
~I love how it allows fans to expand upon these worlds and universes that were created for us. I love how it allows us to demonstrate our love by interpreting things that were either not touched or not expanded upon in canon. It also allows me to express myself in a healthy and creative way.
46. What’s your favorite emotion to cause on your readers?
~Nothing makes a person sexier than physical pain. But I also love anger and regret.
47. What’s your favorite thing about writing?
~See above. Writing fanfiction is another way that I express my love for something that matters so much to me, which are these pieces of media I write for. It also gives my daydreams purpose and doesn’t make me feel like I have to bottle them up!
48. Do you post your writing in any other platforms?
~Yep! AO3, ff.net! I’m Keyblader41996 on both.
49. What app/apps do you use to write (word, notepad, etc.)?
~I’ve got notes all over! I’ve got some in Notepad on my Mac, and I have some in Notebook by Zoho on their site and app, I have some in my paper notebooks, I have some in my college textbook margins and notebooks, etc. My favorite to use is Zoho’s Notebook.
50. One thing you don’t like about fanfiction.
~Thinly veiled, arbitrary and unnecessary bullshit that is masqueraded as “constructive criticism” when I didn’t ask for it, and when it’s easier for the commenter to just, idk, LEAVE THE FUCKING FIC?!?!?!!??!?!?! Rather than spend ALL that time just to be shitty???????????? get away from me.
51. Least favorite trope?
~I dislike time travel.
52. Favorite words to use when writing?
~I love facial descriptions and body language: He crossed his arms. Her eyebrows furrowed. She winked coyly. His fists balled at his sides, trembling. She jumped, clapping her hands enthusiastically. etc.
53. Least favorite words?
~I hate describing clothes and bodies/figures. Hate it.
54. Do you usually like what you write?
~It depends. I cycle through different phases. (1) This is great. (2) Oh god, what the fuck??? is this??? (3) I can’t even look at this, it’s so bad. *Stops writing for days* (4) Wait, why did I hate this so much? It’s a great starting point! (5) Edit (6) YESSS YESSSSSS YASSSSS!!!!!!!! (7) Post
I can start at any one of those numbers and go from there but it’s always in that order no matter where I start.
Thanks so much for asking me these!! I love them!!!

32: None officially, but I kinda made a Hanoi personification sometime in the past.
33: Nations, when their body part are decapitated too badly to be fixed (or got their heads chopped off) will "die" and come back in another place, with full memories. 18,30;D,E and J for Bos and Slo please? /OvO/
((18. What embarrasses them?
Lmao if you even mention his family Slovenia is already halfway through a mental breakdown also I picture him as the type to be embarrassed by any kind of love (romantic, platonic, sibling, etc.) and/or PDA. He is embarrassed very easily in general but he hides it very well. Bosnia is usually not embarrassed he is usually the one that does the embarrassing but he is kind of a sappy drunk and some of his siblings have a lot of videos of his drunk outbursts so if you wanna embarrass him film him being drunk
For Slo it might be a bit sad but I think he regrets meeting Cro the most because she is his strongest connection to the Balkan and he thinks the fact that he is a Balkan country is very damaging to his reputation but he also doesn’t resent her for that because he does feel like she is a sister to him so he has no ill will towards her. And Bos doesn’t regret meeting anyone because he believes everyone he ever knew made him who he is today in a way.
D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?
No I change my ocs a lot in general catch my version of Austria going from dark brown hair and blue eyes to blonde hair and brown eyes lol. I would include pics of I wasn’t on phone but Bosnia changed a lot more my original version had Bosnia as a girl (and Herzegovina as a guy) and she was blonde and had light blue eyes but then I Bos a guy and he looked the same except u know a guy which I then changed to brown hair and brown eyes but last year I realized he is too similar to Tixs Bosnia so I gave him greyish-blue eyes and dark brown hair that is dyed blonde, in short he changed a lot and this is not even the full list of all the changes the details are just too long. Slo on the other hand didn’t change a lot (mostly cuz I didn’t work on him too much before) he was always blonde but his initial design had him with blue eyes, an Italy curl and glasses.
E) Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you?
I do believe I would yes if we could start up a conversation. With Bosnia I feel like I could talk to him because he takes the initiative very often in socializing and he knows how to talk to people but Slovenia on the other hand doesn’t talk to others unless they talk to him first and since I can’t start up conversation for s*** I don’t think I would even have the chance to talk to Slo.
J) Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character?
Well they are not very stereotypically based like a lot of countries in Hetalia. The canon characters are very much caricatures of the countries you know mostly took the stereotypes and made them characters and I believe my ocs are more developed than that. If I were to make them fit the narrative of Hetalia I would have to dumb down their personalities, like Bos would be stupid, happy and almost drunk like while Slo would be greedy, moody and distant.

Frankenstein’s Meme - Day 25, 26, & 27
(Full list of questions at the bottom, under the cut. Previous answers can be found here.)
25. Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
Hetalia’s Austria is a big fan of electronic music in the modern day (the quintessential Techno Snob, bless him), and also has a strong appreciation for progressive rock. (The bitch likes more than just Classical, and yOU CAN FIGHT ME.)
26. A trope which you are virtually certain to love in any fandom.
I’m always a sucker for a good forced proximity, no matter if it’s due to inclement weather or fake dating or whatever else. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
27. A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.
Soulmates. Partly because I’m vehemently opposed to the idea that there is one (and only one) specific person out there for someone, and partly because the trope just seems lazy? Like, who needs good character dynamics and/or a believable romantic connection when we can just deus ex machina these two people together! And I know the characters don’t always get on well in soulmate stories, and that can be part of the conflict--like they have to learn to live with/like each other--but eh... It just doesn’t do it for me. (So I guess as an addendum to 26, I like my forced proximity tropes, but without the woo-woo, pfft.)
