Pictured below is Movietone, one of the bands of the so-called “incestuous” Bristol scene, along with Third Eye Foundation, Flying Saucer Attack, Crescent, and others. I’ve been owning just one Movietone CD (Day And Night) since like forever and thanks to someone who posted a song from that album on social media, I kind of rediscovered the album, the band and the Bristol scene. Totally missed out on that when it was happening. As I have told before in the show, I’ve been checking out mainly some more of the Flying Saucer Attack music, but now Movietone has just released a Peel Sessions album, I bought it, and I play a track from that album in the show. The song “The Voice Came Out Of The Box And Dropped Into The Ocean” is in fact a version of “Useless Landscape” from the “Day And Night” album, I forgot to tell you about that during the live show. Anyway, more music in this show from punkrock (Nag, Tommy & The Commies, Cold Meat - hope to see some of you at The Pit’s on Sunday for the Nag show!) over new wave (Neon, Skeletal Family, Nacht Und Nebel) to nineties indie math rock (Polvo) and ending with Wire solo stuff (Colin Newman, Bruce Gilbert) and Finnish dub influenced space pop (Heta Bilaletdin).
