Gestern ein Gespräch mit einer Bekannten gehabt, die sich einen Gaming Laptop gekauft hat und dabei tatsächlich einen guten Job gemacht hat. Obwohl sie einen Acer geholt hat. Viele wissen, ich hasse Acer und es ist eine der zwei Marken, die ich nie empfehlen würde, neben Alienware. Worann das liegt, ist relativ einfach. Acer verbaut meist schwache CPUs, die nur bedingt wirklich zeitgemäß sind und schon gar nicht dem Preis entsprechen. 4 Kern Prozessoren reichen vielleicht noch, aber zukunftssicher ist das absolut nicht. Desweiteren setzen sie einen Trick ein, den ich so bei vielen Herstellern sehe und auf den ihr achten solltet, wenn ihr eine solche Investition tätigen wollt. Der Festplattentrick. Eine winzig kleine SSD (keine M.2) und dafür eine große HDD. Wir leben im Jahr 2020. Lasst euch nichts erzählen. Es gibt genau einen Grund, warum man noch eine HDD in einen PC baut. Der Hesteller will Geld sparen und seien es auch nur 20-30€ die eine SSD heute mehr kostet. Eine SSD ist, im Schnitt, etwas 8 mal schneller als eine HDD und über eine M.2 SSD müssen wir hier gar nicht reden. Aber wie sage ich dann, dass dieser Laptop gut ist, obwohl er von Acer kommt. Schauen wir ihn uns an: CPU: Ein i7. Mehr sagte sie nicht. Ich gehe aber mal vom 8750H aus, da dieser extra für Laptops konzipiert ist. Ich habe den selben CPU. 6 Kerne, 2.2 GHz und 12 Threads. Das reicht locker für alle Aufgaben, die ein überdurschnittler Gamer erledigen muss. In meinem Fall auch zum streamen und Videos produzieren. Grafikkarte: Eine GTX 1650, also 4 GB Videospeicher. Also genauso viel wie ich bei meiner GTX 1050 Ti auch habe. Das reicht locker für alle aktuellen Spiele. Besonders, wenn man wie ich, keinen Unterschied zwischen 60 und 100 FPS sieht. Läuft flüssig, also reicht völlig aus. Wenn ihr FPS sehen könnt und unbedingt eine große Zahl oben rechts blinken sehen wollt, werdet ihr mit beiden Grafikkarten nicht glücklich. Ram: 8 GB. Das ist der erste Punkt, der mich wirklich stört. Für 1100€ kann man eigentlich mehr als 8 GB erwarten. Versteht mich aber nicht falsch. Meistens reichen auch 8 GB. Aber wer wie ich, gerne viel nebenbei surft und vielleicht auch nebenbei Streams guckt, beim zocken, wird es mit 8 GB schon sehr schwer haben. Sie streamt nicht, denn sonst wären 8 GB schon sehr schädigend. So geht es noch klar. Allerdings ist es nicht zukunftssicher und wohl der erste Punkt für ein mögliches Upgrade. Mit 16 GB wäre man dort besser gefahren. Gerade in diesem Preisbereich. Ich hoffe und gehe aber wenigstens von zwei Riegeln aus und hoffe nicht, dass es nur ein einzelner 8 GB Riegel ist, denn sonst wäre das, für diesen Preis, eine absolute Frechheit und ein riesen Performance Verlust. Speicher: Auch hier hat man, typisch Acer, nicht auf die HDD verzichtet. Finde ich absolut scheiße. Aber wenigstens packt man hier eine 500 GB SSD dazu. Immerhin also eine brauchbare SSD, sodass man die HDD, hoffentlich kaum benutzen muss. Allerdings, ganz ehrlich Acer. Schmeißt einfach beide Platten raus und baut von mir aus eine 500 GB M.2. SSD ein. Da haben die Nutzer viel mehr von und wer unbedingt großen Speicher braucht, kann auch selbst externe Platten benutzen. Es gibt einfach keinen Grund eine HDD einzubauen und eine M.2 macht so viel mehr Sinn. Hört auf eure Schrott Festplatten überall reinzuschrauben, nur weil es günstig für euch ist. Fazit: Ein wirklich guter Rechner und das von Acer. Man mag es kaum glauben. Natürlich gibt es Abstriche und ja natürlich, kann man einen besseren PC dafür kaufen. Aber für ein Laptop bietet andere Vorteile, die auch ich sehr zu schätzen weiß und gerne bezahle. Ein brauchbares Gerät ist selten, gerade da bei vielen noch der Glaube an Alienware mitschwingt. Alienware und Acer drehen euch Müll an und nur weil dieser Laptop gut ist, ändert das nichts an der Norm. Beispiel gefällig? Der Gaming PC eines Freundes von mir. Er kam leider vorher nicht zu mir sondern erst danach und aufgepasst. Es wird weh tun. Für 1100€ ein i5 8400, mit immerhin 6 Kernen, aber halt nur 6 Threads. Hier erwartet man, für diesen Preis einfach mehr. Das ist nicht ausreichend und inzwischen sieht das auch der Händler ein und bietet diesen PC für noch 900€ an. In Köln sah ich ihn dieses Jahr für 1000€. Der Preis fällt also weiter. Beim Ram geht es weiter. Auch hier nur 8 GB und zwar nicht mit 2 Riegeln. Ein 8 GB Riegel? Alter, was macht ihr für eine Scheiße. Schreibt doch gleich Taschenrechner drauf. Das beschreibt diesen PC besser. Man schmeißt soviel Leistung weg, für nichts. Es ist ja nicht mal günstiger. Es ist einfach Dummheit, oder es lag halt noch ein 8 GB Riegel rum. GraKa ist die GTX 1060. Stabil klar. Aber wir reden von einem PC. Einem PC für 1100€ keinem Laptop. In einem Laptop würde ich hier nichts sagen. Aber in einem PC für mehr als 1000€ eine 1060 einzubauen, ist sehr frech. Man findet 1080 günstiger. Hier wird deutlich, dass Acer spart wo es nur geht. Es ist eine Schande, dass sowas ernsthaft für soviel Geld über den Tisch gewandert ist. Unfassbar dreißt die Unwissenheit des Käufers ausgenutzt. Festplatten und Acer macht, was Acer halt so macht. 128 GB SSD (keine M.2). Sprich Windows drauf und das Ding ist voll. Aber dafür hat man ja dann die 1 TB HDD. eine HDD im Jahr 2019/20 in einem 1100€ PC. Alles klar, wie soll man seinen Kunden noch deutlicher ins Gesicht sagen: “Fickt dich, gib uns dein Geld und Fresse.” Niemand würde jemals sagen, dass eine HDD im Jahr 2019/20 noch die richtige Entscheidung für einen PC ist und ja mir ist klar, dass man nicht eine 1 TB SSD einfach so da einbauen kann. Aber dann schmeißt den Speichermüll, den ihr da verbaut raus und haut eine vernünfte M.2. SSD rein. Um wenigstens nicht komplett auf eure Kunden zu scheißen.

First meetings

Legs sore, equine sides caked with sweat under her blankets and saddlebags, Hestelle peered out of their hiding spot at their saviour. They hadn’t anticipated getting hunted by The Wild Hunt this morning; the thick fog dampening the parties senses and easing them into a false sense of security.

How frightened she had been for her friends, hoisting Lucia onto her back and taking off after the carriage the second her eyes had drifted over that horned helmet. Her hooves had eaten up the road behind the carriage with a thunder and spray of stones, one arm making sure Lucia was secure in her grip before even attempting to get her to safety. No man left behind- even going so far as to make sure Butter the corgi was safe once they found these ruins.

For some reason the Hunt didn’t follow them into the decrepit castle, halting their foul hounds and steeds at the abandoned carriage and destroying it with glee and many a guttural growl. They hadn’t registered the sounds of clanging metal at first- nay, Hestelles sides were still heaving from the exertion of carrying her friend and keeping up with the speeding carriage.

And yet still her curiosity pushed her even now to peek out of the castle and creep to where the sounds were now silenced, her friends too tired from their ordeal to follow. Foxglove had already been and told them of what she had seen, and the others were reluctant to even risk the thought of someone who had taken on a faction of the wild hunt finding them and possibly sending them to the same fate. That didn’t sit right with Hestelle, the thought of not even offering the chance of thanks or gratitude felt like oil down her spine, even more so with the thought of a defenceless woman and child were here in which this black knight had unknowingly saved.

Her hooves tread lightly on the grass, picking her way around rubble and vines she came to the gap in the wall they’d crept through to get to safety before taking a deep breath. First she just held an eye out to see around the corner, eyes alighting on the corpses of men and steed bleeding into the dirt, blood pooling before soaking in. Then her gaze trailed upwards towards a black armoured boot before her courage disappeared and she pulled back behind the wall. There was a moment of hesitation, of thinking if it was the right thing to do or would she be putting her friends lives in danger?

Chewing her lip, Hestelle rolled her shoulders before fully coming out of her hiding spot, hoofs purposely stomped louder to alert the knight of her presence before she even said a word. Eyes carefully to the ground she saw his boots once again, they’d now half turned in her direction, before she let them rise to look at the knight properly.

Black armour that seemed to blend in with the shadows, there was not a sheen to this metal that she could see; it almost had a black hole texture to it, sucking the light out the space it occupied easily. Spiked and menacing over every inch of his body, even down to his singular blazing blue eye- it almost glowed with an inner radiance that screamed fae to Hestelle. Her breath was stolen for a long moment as she stared at him before she found her tongue and courage.

To hell with it- if he killed her at least she was brave enough to thank him.

“Um, thank you for stopping them, I didn’t think i was going to make it” she spoke softly, voice trembling lightly from this mans intimidating gaze. She was careful to not mention anyone else, just in case he was indeed bloodthirsty and coming for her next.

The knight stopped cleaning his blade to look at her, almost seeming surprised to see someone who was not the hunt looking back at him- despite the fact she couldn’t see a single expression on his masked face. Giving the sharp blade one last wipe before sheathing it; she was surprised to hear a gravelly voice respond to her in kind.

“You’re welcome”
