For the character asks! Azuma: 4, 8, 9, 20, 24 / Shimazaki: 1, 2, 12, 25, 26
Thank you so much for answering my need for memes, Elcie-! /;0; AZUMA: 4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
I would ABSOLUTELY fuck with a manga side story about how Azuma first found out about and then pushed to join Border. YES tell me more about him! I wanna know how his education in military history made him an ideal candidate for recruitment! I wanna know how Sniper technology was developed and furthered while he was there! 8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
I don't know about 'despise,' when it comes to World Trigger fandom... the ENG fanbase is small enough that the antis are easy to avoid, and I don't think the antis care enough about 25-year-old Azuma Haruaki to have opinions about him that I can really hate [especially since he's one of the VERY few 20-something anime men about whom I DO have 'he's a single mother' feelings]. I guess the closest I can get is like... not vibing at all with Azuma as a top, especially a predatory top? He's so gentle and nurturing and innately yonic to me. 9. Could you be roommates with this character?
Y'know, REALISTICALLY... probably no? I think Azuma is probably a REALLY good roomie, honestly, probably very tidy and keeps to himself and pays the bills on time. But he's also a 25 year old professional Mom Friend, and that's a category of human being that I'm historically INCAPABLE of handling in my space for too long. 20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?
Ohh, the ideal best friend... :0c I dunno! I would love to see him interact more with Izumi under friendly, we're-both-dating-Beltiston-Boys circumstances, and I would LOVE to read more fic scenarios where he has extensive personal conversations with Hyrein, also in your-brother-is-in-love-with-me circumstances. But that's pure fanon for me. Overall I think it'd be fun to see more on-screen canon interaction between Azuma and the mahjong squad. 24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?
Azuma's pretty singular, I think, especially for a male character! His poised, serene, nurturing and supportive character archetype is such that he's more similar to female Yamato Nadeshiko characters in any other manga or anime setting, and unfortunately, not a lot of those women are permitted the nuance to ALSO be coldly pragmatic, tactically minded to the point of being manipulative, and capable of shutting off their emotions so completely in battle.
SHIMAZAKI:
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
Asking me this feels like asking me why I like autumn, or the smell of amber, or why cyan is a favourite colour of mine. He's just a character I like deeply, because he's fun and cool and sexy and interesting and great! 2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
His way of speaking in the original Japanese! He has a habit of speaking very politely, while also sprinkling in very deliberate and precise use of impolite words and forms of address, even down to something as simple and subtle as switching-to-katakana when he refers to Teru as 'kimi.' It's SUCH a fun detail and adds so much richness to him as a character, that he's so casual and not at all uncomfortable being polite and even complimentary towards his opponents, even if he's ALSO very comfortable making it clear when he's annoyed with, amused by, or doesn't respect them. 12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
I've always enjoyed fanfics from Shimazaki's POV, where he describes the way that he perceives his own powers and the powers of other espers. One headcanon that I've taken on through inspiration by fanfic is that, while Teru's aura and energy is dense and bright, Shimazaki's is extremely elastic and essentially clear - I just like the idea that, while he cannot condense his power and use it to physically annihilate things the way that a telekinetic like Teruki can, the fine grain and flexibility of his power allows him to do things that Teruki cannot [teleportation, sensing subtle and minute energy without getting drowned out by what is essentially the energetic light pollution of his own aura, etc]. 25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Oh, I loved him the instant I first saw him, and I love him still! I don't think my feelings about Shimazaki have changed all that much, so much as they've deepened as I've gotten more insane about him over time 26. What's something the character has done you can't get over? Be it something funny, bad, good, serious, whatever?
Honestly, the omake where Minegishi is bullying Serizawa so hard on his first day with Claw that Shimazaki has to say 'hey man, chill' lives rent free in my mind. SHIMAZAKI being the adult in a situation and telling someone that they've gone too far is just wildly funny to me.
BONUS ANSWER FOR SHIMAZAKI, SINCE I ACCIDENTALLY ANSWERED IT WITH HIM FOR THE FIRST AZUMA QUESTION: 4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
This is kind of a tough one, because I'm not by my nature a videogame player, but I think it'd be REALLY fun if Shimazaki showed up as a Special character in videogames, like one of those 'we're collaborating with X anime, so here's Blorbo in fully rendered art style and quality 3D game animation, available as a log-in bonus or gacha pull for a limited time!' situations. Mostly because I'd love to see his cutscene animations, in-game dialogue, and all the fanart that would spring forth from another officially endorsed AU scenario.

Mob Psycho 100 III Watchthrough
#1: Future ~Career Paths~

Wonderful Mob Psycho 100 episode! Very strong start to this season.
#2: Yokai Hunter Amakusa Haruaki Appears! ~The Threat of a Hundred Demons!!~

I really like these episodic psychic stories, and tend to treasure them while they last before the long arcs (which are great too) come along. Hope we still get a few more this season.
#3: Getting Carried Away ~100%~

Another great episode! There was never any doubt about it, but this season is off to a wonderful start. It's very nice to have Dimple back too, his dynamic with Mob is always interesting.
#4: Divine Tree 1 ~The Founder Appears~

Fantastic episode. Literally went "holy shit" during just the first few seconds cause the atmosphere and colors just made it immediately apparent things were different. Super effective direction at display. Mob continues to be the best airing seasonal at the moment.
The first three episodes were pretty lowkey (which I also love), but it was about time that something a bit heavier kicked in. And Dimple has always been one of the more complicated characters in the show.
There's no doubt that he likes Mob and enjoys his company, but Dimple is still a spirit and has his view on things, and a goal he still wants to achieve. Those sides are clashing here.
He did in fact even invite Mob to join him, and when he was rejected, I bet that hurt him. Angered him. Which helped spur him on to lash out like this.
And in Mob's case, he's never really dealt with not being able to rely on Reigen for emotional support like this. They had a bit of a break in S2 ofc, but this is a much more dire conflic where Reigen (seems) brainwashed to stand in opposition to him even, which is new. But every new challenge provides a new opportunity for growth.
S3 has not yet had one of those peak episodes that the series can certainly deliver, but it's just consistently excellent all over. I'm definitely hoping we can peak even higher somewhere this season, but I'm super happy with whatever we end up getting.
#5: Divine Tree 2 ~Peace~

Season 3 finally kicked things up a notch with this week's episode and reached those heights that the first two seasons did at the top of their game. Fantastic stuff.
It's quite frankly just sad, seeing Dimple so desperate to reach out to Mob, but because what the two of them value are diametrically opposed, whatever he tries to use to entice Mob just isn't effective.
They both care for each other, but in very different ways. Mob always saw the best in Dimple and considered him a good friend, while Dimple saw Mob more as a student, someone who needed him to set him straight. Ironic, how those roles have kinda exchanged with this confrontation.
#6: Divine Tree 3 ~Dimple Is~
Yeah, so pretty great episode.

I'll actually start by saying that I was slightly torn about the first half. It all felt in character and the subtext has always been there, but the whole speech just convincing Dimple, and the "I just wanted a friend", while accurate, I dunno, felt a bit cliche.
I think the presentation sells the execution of it for the most part tho and again, it is accurate to the characters. The second half is just a glorious sakugafest. Yoshimichi Kameda, Hironori Tanaka, Yutaka Nakamura and everyone else that worked on this, bless you.

The last sequence with Mob and Dimple was quite gutwrenching tho, and worked for me on pretty much all levels. I can't say I ever really cared much for Dimple so it's a testament that the episode still got me emotional.
Dunno if we'll see him again, but if not, this was pretty much the perfect way to go.
#7: Transmission 1 ~Winter Break~

Another lovely episode this week. I wondered how we'd follow up on last week, and while Mob is still quietly grieving, it has taken a bit of a backseat. But as usual, I really like these small, psychic SoL-like stories, and treasure them when we get them.
I'm not sure if we're gonna go for a dark twist here or if it'll keep being lowkey (I'd be cool with the entire season being this chill), but considering next week is the rumored 20k frames episode, we might just attract some aliens with less than pure intentions.
#8: Transmission 2 ~Encountering the Unknown~
Surreal episode this week. Was almost expecting it to have been a dream lol. Wonderful one-off story nevertheless.

#9: Mob 1 ~Moving~

Such a sweet episode this week (well, up until a point). I was just mentally hugging my boy the entire time. I AM ROOTING FOR YOU.
#10: Mob 2 ~Rival~

Good episode as usual. It's really more an action episode than anything, but it's setting up interesting things here. I'm mostly into how Mob will deal with all this in the aftermath.
Mob being trapped inside his body reminds me of that real-life locked-inside syndrome, which people in comas can have (went down that rabbit hole a few days ago). Sounds like the most terrifying thing, but most people report it's actually kind of pleasant.
#11: "Mob 3 ~Trauma~"

Another good Mob Psycho 100 episode this week. This final arc is a bit too much trying to stop crazy Mob and the fights that ensue, for it to hit especially for me, but it's still weaving in his struggles with adolescence and identity, so still doing an effective job overall.
#12: "Confession ~The Future~"

Mob Psycho 100 III was great all the way through. I can't say it had the same impact on me as the first two seasons did (well, I can say it but it wouldn't be true) but I really liked the mostly low-key approach this season took and respect the hell out of it. Finale was perfect.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSS!!!!!!! also yesss guys who go "i hate all yokai ever" and seeing hatanaka and going "well that guy is okay i guess" (it took ame a bit but he does have hatanaka's contact iirc so.) time-honored tradition. everyone loves hatanaka. love the disgruntled miki. he's going to help this (terrible) child as a responsible adult who backs up his two friends but he's not going to be HAPPY about this.
kou and tama being buddies also. consider. honestly i think despite being younger than them, kou would get along really well with class 2-3. their new token middle schooler.
thinking about it the visual similarities between sano and teru are so funny to me actually. swap au where it's just those two that swap.
sano: "what the fuck. where is mame??? where is my emotional support loser of a japanese teacher? not that i care about him i just think that whenever something goes wrong it usually has to do with him" whether or not haruaki is actually responsible for swap au is unknown as of now. but he would be the first one sano would blame. kou is worried about his older brother. sano is not.
teru is just about to fucking snap. in the after-school hanako spin-off he says that he views supernaturals as akin to cockroaches and bemoans that his school has so many. now he is in a school For cockroaches(yokai). Alone. this is his own personal hell. he will have to be restrained for everyone's safety. all of class-3 is on the hunt for sano.
hiiiiiiiiiiiiii.,,,, so i've been thinking about tbhk x yohaji character interactions. again. and i realized that haruaki's "peacefully!" motto and approach to his exorcist powers would be such a good role model for kou?????
Especially since he says it's his way of shortening mama-aki's little speech about making sure he takes care of himself as well as taking care of others and that's something,,, that kou really Really needs to hear
also it's fun that haru's on the opposite end of teru's extremism - he wants to protect even those who have tried to kill him! speaking of teru sometimes i look at him and his backstory of being trained to be a child soldier from age 8 due to his powers and talent and i'm like i wonder if he has ever truly felt what it's like to be protected instead of the protector. and because of that i think it would be fun to throw him into a Situation where he's being protected by the idiot teacher trio. let him stew on that.
and the conclusion of these Thoughts was "hey mr. minamoto looks like you've lost custody of your three kids that you've been neglecting to some 25-y/o loser obsessed with sailor uniforms."
It has been more than a month but I AM FINALLY READY TO ANSWER……. Sorry this took so long dragon. Also under the cut so I don’t obliterate anyone’s dash.
Anyway. YES. Kou being in such a rush to catch up to his brother and his friend group being frankly such a mess that he just Doesn’t take care of himself, plus the fact that he is constantly going through it (losing to a supernatural. Crush is friends with/working with the supernatural. Other crush IS a supernatural. Other crush also does not remember him. Also he himself has kind of been working with the first supernatural for most of the manga), and then enter stage right: 25yo loser who is somehow, despite all odds, a positive role model. I’m kind of reminded of Tama, actually, in that Haru is the exact role model he needs. More than strength, Kou needs to learn how to slow down and that it’s okay to just be. Teru’s already his exorcism hero, but given the fact that he is. *waves vaguely* Like That. That’s not exactly a healthy example for Kou to learn from. So Haru is basically the first positive role model in exorcism that Kou’s ever had because he doesn’t let it consume his identity and views himself as a person first (and honestly doesn’t consider himself an exorcist at all), and similarly considers Kou a person before an exorcist.

And yessssss Teru!!!!!!!!! I think we talked about it before that he’s got like,,,,,, some Ebisu Energy, except he doesn’t like gods either. The idea of a youkai school would disgust him. Haru is a terrible, terrible influence on his baby brother who is already fraternizing with supernaturals too much as it is. The fact that Haru’s also a descendant of a famed exorcist and inherited that immense power (also depending on whether he knows that he’s,,,,, technically the reincarnation) yet loves youkai so much makes it even Worse. Anyway Teru’s been more of a parent to Kou than their actual parents from what I understand/remember so Kou suddenly idolizing this dude Teru already dislikes must have his hackles raised. He’s pissed. Teacher trio proceeding to give him the protection and support he never received from his father is a genius cherry on top. He’s stewing so hard that the pressure cooker is making a scary noise. It’s a humiliation that he had to be protected by youkai! And this youkai-loving idiot he hates! An exorcist of his caliber! He is definitely not having confusing feelings about the monstrosity of mankind and the humanity of monsters! Or moved by the fact that these three protected him out of what seems to be genuine concern since he’s a kid! (Though I think Rintarou would be kind of irritable about it,, I don’t think he’d like Teru very much on account of aforementioned similarity to Ebisu) (Also to expand on that further I think he’d grudgingly get along with Hatanaka the same way Ebisu does)

Anyway I hope Ame’s ready to be an uncle :) Custody battle between the Minamoto clan and Haru would be great because he’s barely getting the chance to participate, Teru’s verbally tearing his bio dad apart. Mama-aki and papa-aki don’t know where Haru keeps getting these blonde children with troubled home lives from but I think they would be very chill about it!!
Also bonus because I realized while drawing that Teru looks like Sano:

#NFDKJSNFKJNDSKJFNJDSKNF “A FALSE MII-KUN NFJDSBHFBDJSBFHSBDFJBDS”#spiderman meme but with sano and teru nfjkdnjfndjfd#*shakes haru and the minamoto brothers up and down* thanks for playing toys with meee#yohaji#tbhk#it got long so i added a readmore. you understand
