Keyton's "Moving Forward Towards the End": An emotional and earnest outlook at the end of a relationship.
October 2023 - Keyton is an artist from North Alabama with a special focus on melodic rock. His most recent studio single, "Moving Forward Towards the End", is a testament to his blend of gritty sonics and introspective lyricism. This song showcases his insightful approach to songwriting and his ability to collaborate with others so that the sum of the parts elevates the music to new heights.
One of the defining features of Keyton's music is its diversity, and "Moving Forward Towards the End" is no exception. The track incorporates elements of emo, punk, alternative rock, and early 2000s indie. This seamless array of influences works well with Keyton's "heart on a sleeve" lyrics and spontaneous vocal delivery. The track was co-written with Canadian singer-songwriter Billy the Kid (A.K.A. Billy Pettinger,) whose unique perspective adds a layer of depth to the song. In addition, "Moving Forward Towards the End" also benefits from the extraordinary drumming skills of Atom Willard.
If you have been following punk or the alternative music scene over the past 20 years, you might have heard his name pop up alongside some of the true luminaries in the scene. Known as one of the best drummers in rock, Atom's skills have graced bands like Angels & Airwaves, The Offspring, and Against Me! And, most recently, Alkaline Trio. It's always a treat to hear his drumming, and this song is no exception. What makes it even more remarkable is that the drummer has fully recovered from a recent motorcycle accident that gave him quite a scare.
The lyrics of "Moving Forward Towards the End" offer a profound exploration of doubt and uncertainty in the dynamics of a relationship. Whether it's with friends or loved ones, the song delves into the universal struggle of truly understanding someone and their motives. The line, "For a moment, we were infinite, but I don't think this is how the story ends," serves as a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of human connections. It's a reflection on the good times shared but also an acknowledgement that we don't know where the road ahead might take us in this life.
Keyton's vocals on this track are spot-on for mood and intensity. His melodic tone beautifully conveys the depth of the song. The harmonies (featuring Billy The Kid) are perfectly layered and add an extra set of dynamics to the music. Speaking of dynamics, the guitars in "Moving Forward Towards the End" provide a brilliant balance of melody and energy.
The sound is bright, smooth, and intelligible, avoiding excessive distortion but staying more in overdriven territory. This approach allows listeners to appreciate the intricacies of the chord shapes and individual notes rather than drowning them in a sea of fuzziness. Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely no issue with distorted guitars, and there is a place for them on a lot of fantastic records. That said, this particular musical setting really called for a more understated guitar sound, and the guitars on "Moving Forward Towards the End" definitely did the trick.
The production of the song helps it maintain a natural vibe, enhancing the value of the remarkable performances by each artist involved.
Billy the Kid, who co-wrote the song, also contributes great background vocals, complementing Keyton's lead vocals beautifully. Atom Willard's solid drum track is the rhythmic backbone of the song, adding a compelling pulse to the music. His powerful and precise drumming adds an electrifying dimension to the song, driving it forward with intensity and finesse. The way he is so restrained and follows the song structure without overplaying is a masterclass in drum arrangement. Less is more, kids!
Jack Lawrence, known for his work with Jack White's Dead Weather and The Raconteurs, provides a killer bass track that offers a sturdy foundation without overshadowing the guitar and vocals. The bass is full and slightly crunchy, with enough attack to cut through the guitars without overpowering the song's low end.
Keyton's "Moving Forward Towards the End" is a little alt-rock/emo gem that strikes a chord for its refreshing simplicity and directness. However, the "simplicity" I just mentioned is deceptive because it's so plain to see that a lot of work went into this track. Perhaps the best word to use is "understated." The music serves the feeling of the lyrics and helps tell the story in such a way that only seasoned musicians can do with such a high degree of audible confidence in their creative choices. In other words, there's a strong sense that every little thing is deliberate and thought-out here - from the sound of the guitars to the arrangements, adlibs and well-placed vocal harmonies.
This song comes at exactly the right time in an era of new Blink-182 music and big festivals focusing on the early 2000s sounds.
Find out more about Keyton, and check out "Moving Forward Towards The End" on Bandcamp, Spotify and other digital streaming services. You'll also find the song on our playlist!

I asked AI of what songs would fit for invader zim.
1. "The Doom Song" by Gir: In the show, Gir is Zim's malfunctioning and hyperactive robot sidekick. He often sings a catchy tune known as "The Doom Song," which consists of him repeatedly singing "Doom" in a high-pitched voice. This song perfectly captures the chaotic and absurd nature of Invader Zim and has become one of the most iconic elements of the series.
2. "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers: This upbeat and energetic song could be a fitting choice for Invader Zim. Its catchy melody and lyrics about determination and perseverance align with Zim's relentless pursuit of conquering Earth, despite his constant failures. The song's infectious energy would complement the show's fast-paced and zany atmosphere.
3. "Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance: This emo anthem from the mid-2000s could serve as a fitting theme song for Invader Zim. The song's dark and theatrical sound, combined with its lyrics about embracing individuality and defying societal norms, resonate with the show's themes of alienation and nonconformity. Additionally, Gerard Way, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance, has expressed his love for Invader Zim in interviews, further solidifying the connection between the band and the show.
4. "Freak on a Leash" by Korn: This alternative metal song could be a suitable choice for Invader Zim due to its aggressive sound and rebellious lyrics. The song's themes of frustration and feeling trapped align with Zim's constant struggle to prove himself to his superiors and gain recognition for his efforts. The intense energy of "Freak on a Leash" would complement the show's darker and more chaotic moments.
5. "The Kids Aren't Alright" by The Offspring: This punk rock anthem addresses the disillusionment and struggles faced by the younger generation, which resonates with the themes explored in Invader Zim. The song's energetic instrumentation and rebellious lyrics would fit well with the show's overall tone and the character of Zim, who often finds himself at odds with the world around him.
6. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day: This introspective ballad captures the feelings of loneliness and isolation that are prevalent in Invader Zim. The song's melancholic tone and lyrics about searching for purpose and belonging align with Zim's constant longing for acceptance and recognition. Its emotional depth would add another layer to the show's storytelling.
7. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana: This iconic grunge anthem embodies the spirit of teenage rebellion and angst, making it a suitable choice for Invader Zim. The song's raw energy and lyrics about apathy and disillusionment resonate with the show's themes of nonconformity and questioning authority. Its distorted guitar riffs and powerful vocals would complement the show's edgy aesthetic.
8. "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor: This disco classic could be a humorous choice for Invader Zim, as it contrasts with the show's darker themes. The song's empowering lyrics about resilience and overcoming adversity could be interpreted ironically in relation to Zim's constant failures. Its catchy melody and upbeat rhythm would provide a lighthearted break from the show's more intense moments

The Top 21 Artists to Watch in 2021
In a world where the only universal certainty seems to be opening every email with “hope you’re doing well,” the only other surefire guarantee is that there will continue to be new music worth discovering. And, we figured with the start of a new year, what better way to say to spend the waking hours of 2021 than introduce you to a few of the artists we currently have a close eye on. Often genreless and belonging to Gen Z, these are the 21 artists we are watching in 2021.
spill tab
youtube
Where to Start: “Calvaire”
In her breakout single “Calvaire,” spill tab sings in French over an intoxicating backbeat. The effect is akin to a spell, ushering into existence something inherently danceable and transfixing, like an Angèle B-side finding new life as a Billie Eilish cut. It is a standout moment that would be followed by similar standout moments in the form of a series of varied singles, culminating in spill tab’s debut EP, Oatmilk. Short and sweet, the four-song collection holds all the promise of a 2021 artist to watch.
Joesef
youtube
Where to Start: “The Sun Is Up Forever”
Emerging from the fog of Glasgow, Scotland, Joesef’s marriage of heartbreak, desire, regret, hope, and sublime joy is nothing short of intoxicating. Immediately making an impression with his tender, heartfelt croon, the Glasgow artist’s songs soon give way to emotionally rife personal recollections–some beautiful in their understated minimalism, some breathtaking in their expansive scope. Whatever the setting, the result is always the same–a passionate, shared moment you will not be forgetting anytime soon.
brakence
youtube
Where to Start: “dropout”
Self-described as “self-care punk,” brakence effortlessly pairs the unmatched energy of punk with an impressive showing of vulnerability. While the past few years saw the Ohio native experiment over a range of singles and on his debut album, 2020 was without a doubt the year he found his sound in the noteworthy punk2. Blending Midwest emo, trap production, hip-hop, and alternative, brakence’s sophomore effort is a masterclass in infectious emotional catharsis.
Mustafa
youtube
Where to Start: “Stay Alive”
Few artists embody the sentiment of music as poetry as emphatically as Mustafa. First leaving a mark with 2020’s “Stay Alive,” Mustafa introduced himself to the world with a breathtaking, earth-shattering ballad rife with impassioned emotional imagery. Soft-spoken but never lacking for impact, the poet, activist, filmmaker, and songwriter brings to life the lived realities of Toronto’s Regent Park, a public housing project that shaped Mustafa into the once in a lifetime artist he is today.
Holly Humberstone
youtube
Where to Start: “Falling Asleep At The Wheel”
In her 2020 debut EP, Falling Asleep at the Wheel, Holly Humberstone proves herself a master at crafting a palpable atmosphere. Rife with emotional highs and cathartic lows, all backed by Humberstone’s magnetic and graceful songwriting, the British artist lays her heart on her sleeve and in turn lays the groundwork for a debut offering poised to stand the test of time. It is no mere hyperbole to say that Humberstone is an artist to watch out for not only in 2021 but in the years to come.
AG Club
youtube
Where to Start: “Memphis”
The initial comparison of AG Club to collectives like BROCKHAMPTON and A$AP may be an easy one to draw, but a single listen tells another story. While the genreless Bay Area collective may radiate the same rapturous energy of the aforementioned groups, AG Club is clearly riding high on their own wavelength. Aiming to make hip-hop but not as you know it, the idiosyncratic collective made their vision clear with the release of 2020’s Halfway Off the Porch, an electrifying amalgamation of disparate genres, sights, sounds, and moods.
347aidan
youtube
Where to Start: “Dancing in My Room”
Euphoric, difficult to perfectly define, and haphazardly brilliant, aidan347 embodies the adventurousness and inventiveness of Gen Z. The project of 17-year-old Aidan Fuller, the Cambridge, Ontario native has spent the past five years making music. Yet at the beginning of 2020, the Cambridge artist had less than three thousand monthly listeners; now, that number sits well above five million. A testament to 347aidan’s tenacity, his devoted fanbase, and the power of a TikTok-fueled viral hit–arriving in the form of “Dancing in My Room”–it really feels we are only witnessing the prologue of what’s to come.
Frances Forever
youtube
Where to Start: “Space Girl”
When thinking of music’s future stars, what better place to look than to the galactic, lovelorn musings of Frances Forever. Making less of a splash and more of a tidal wave with the release of “Space Girl” late last year, the Boston bedroom artist’s ode to intergalactic love has been rapidly climbing the TikTok and indie charts. Now signed to Mom+Pop records, Frances Forever is more than ready to shoot for the stars and beyond in 2021.
Hope Tala
youtube
Where to Start: “Lovestained”
Hope Tala is impossible to ignore. A West Londoner to her core, the UK singer-songwriter finds inspiration in everything from ‘90s movies, classic literature, to the constantly changing world around her. Transforming what feels like a lifetime, and some, of inspiration into an undeniably spellbinding fusion of R&B and bossa nova, Hope Tala’s musings of daydreams, heartache, and fear are the sort ready to define a generation’s ails, joys, and mundane triumphs and anxieties. Universal in scope yet deeply personal, Hope Tala is without doubt an artist to keep your eye on in 2021.
Q
youtube
Where to Start: “Take Me Your Heart Is”
Q, much like his name, is an anomaly. Releasing one album a year since 2018, the ineffable soul and R&B artist has somehow coasted under the radar in spite of releasing some of the most breathtaking music out there. And with the release of 2020’s The Shave Experiment, Q feels like he’s finally stepping into the much-deserved limelight. Leading with the striking “Take Me Your Heart Is,” Q brought to life a nostalgic, hyper-emotive track sure to stop you in your tracks. Hopefully, it’s one of many to come.
Claire Rosinkranz
youtube
Where to Start: “Backyard Boy”
16-year-old Claire Rosinkranz has been making music for the better part of her life, and 2020 was the year that scribbling down lyrics and helping her father compose music for TV shows and ad jingles paid off in a major way. The California native’s single, “Backyard Boy,” taken from her debut EP, BeVerly Hills BoYfRiEnd, soon became a TikTok hit, racking up over 80 million streams to date, on Spotify alone. If there are two things to look out for in 2021, make sure it’s your mental wellbeing and Claire’s euphoric self-dubbed “alternative-blues-pop.”
KennyHoopla
youtube
Where to Start: “how will i rest in peace if i'm buried by a highway?//”
KennyHoopla is nothing if not electrifying. The alternative, punk, and ‘80s new wave-evoking artist moves through each track with a sense of world-ending hunger, jumping from one ensuing mosh pit to the next. It is a balancing act of new wave nostalgia and genuine inventive alternative that results in a maelstrom of palpable excitement. To best experience this cathartic form of self-expression firsthand, look no further than his debut EP, last year’s how will i rest in peace if i'm buried by a highway?//. No one is quite making music like KennyHoopla, in 2021 or beyond.
MICHELLE
youtube
Where to Start: “THE BOTTOM”
New York collective MICHELLE deftly imbues the sincerity of soul and R&B into a uniquely tender pop outlook, and the result is nothing short of infectious. The project of six predominantly queer POC individuals, the group originally earned widespread critical acclaim for their 2018 album HEATWAVE, but it was arguably their subsequent signing with Atlantic Records last year that has them set to be one of 2021’s most promising acts. Quickly making the most of their newfound major label status, MICHELLE released “Sunrise,” the sonic equivalent of the first rays of light breaking through the clouds, signaling the end of a rainy day. It’s safe to say the future is looking bright for MICHELLE.
glaive
youtube
Where to Start: “eyesore”
Few artists define and defy the label of hyperpop as readily as glaive. Falling somewhere between 100 gecs and the second coming of mid-2000s pop punk, the newly-signed Interscope artist released his major debut label EP, cypress grove, earlier this year. Yet before finding a home at Interscope, glaive’s official discography only stretched back as far as 2020. Making the most of a year we all would rather soon forget, the 15-year-old wunderkind showcased to the world a continual musical evolution that is looking to only further pick up steam in the coming year.
Claud
youtube
Where to Start: “Wish You Were Gay”
From opening for Clairo to releasing a steady stream of resonant singles, Claud has spent the last couple of years making a name for themselves in the indie music world, but 2020 saw arguably their biggest breakthrough moment yet. With the release of “Gold,” Claud became the first artist signed to Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records. Arriving as the first taste of their upcoming debut album, Super Monster, 2021 is looking absolutely golden for Claud. And not to mention the fact they recently started a band with Clairo and friends.
María Isabel
youtube
Where to Start: “The 1”
Where has María Isabel been all our lives? First making herself known with the release of “The 1,” an ode to long-distance relationships, which soon became more prophetic than we ever could have imagined, the debut single served as lovely an introduction as they come. Thankfully, we would not have to wait too long to hear more dreamlike R&B from María, who graced us with her debut EP, Stuck in the Sky shortly thereafter. Uniquely heartfelt and velvety smooth, María’s voice is just the thing to carry you through 2021.
Remi Wolf
youtube
Where to Start: “Photo ID”
The past couple of years have seen avant-garde pop wunderkind Remi Wolf test the waters with one out of this world single after another, and 2020 felt like the year everything finally fell into place. Arriving on the Bay Area native’s sophomore album, I’m Allergic To Dogs!, “Photo ID,” and its unafraid, in your face anti pop mentality cemented itself as a surefire hit, and TikTok soon took notice. Serving as a testament to Remi Wolf’s mainstream appeal in spite of her outsider approach, “Photo ID” merely set the stage for what is to come.
PawPaw Rod
youtube
Where to Start: “HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS”
PawPaw Rod may be the only artist on this list with only one single to their name, but in no way does that disqualify him from being an artist to watch in 2021. Releasing his debut single, “HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS,” out into the ether, the Los Angeles artist immediately landed on something special. Blending elements of hip-hop, funk, and alternative under a mellow, syrupy flow, PawPaw Rod wasted no time in setting himself apart from the pack. And with godmode–the same development company that brought us Yaeji, Channel Tres, LoveLeo, and more–it is safe to say that this is only the beginning.
Evann Mcintosh
youtube
Where to Start: “WIYULD”
In her dreamlike take on alternative R&B, Evann Mcintosh attempts to capture the turbulent act of coming-of-age. At times delicate to the touch and at times emanating a self-assured confidence well beyond her 16 years of age, Evann Mcintosh’s 2019 debut album, MOJO, laid the groundwork for an act whose promise knows no bounds. It was a promise she made good on during the tail end of 2020, with the release of singles “WIYULD” and “BULL$HIT.” Showing off two different sides of her continued musical growth, 2021 has us all the more excited for what Evann has in store.
Serena Isioma
youtube
Where to Start: “Sensitive”
In her breakout single, “Sensitive,” Serena Isioma fuses modern-day R&B and woozy indie pop with reckless abandon. The outcome is a song that not only sounds quite unlike anything else out there, but one whose own vibe seems to shift and evolve from one moment to the next. It is an electrifying opening moment that begins to define the Isioma’s artistry and her debut EP, Sensitive. The first of two EPs the Chicago-based artist would release in 2020, it is hard not to feel like Isioma is already in the process of creating a one-of-a-kind discography.
Blu DeTiger
youtube
Where to Start: “Figure It Out”
Whether you know her as the touring bassist for acts like FLETCHER and Caroline Polachek or as the TikTok famous bassist, the fact of the matter is that Blu DeTiger is an artist you need to know. A bassist since age seven and crowned the “coolest DJ around” by Vogue, the New York native’s music skirts the realms of funk, indie, and dance. Unmistakable, nonchalantly cool, and unsurprisingly bass-heavy, you deserve doing yourself the favor of diving headfirst into Blu DeTiger’s music. Just be sure to come up for air, when you’re ready.

Hi!!! May I get a HP, Star Wars, Voltron, and Disney matchup?
𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗦 + 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘
19, Libra, Neutral Good, enneagram is 4w5, muggleborn Ravenclaw (with Gryffindor tendencies), and my patronus spirit is Hummingbird. Biromantic Pansexual Genderfluid woman using pronouns of She/Her or He/Him. Cherubic-like face, with short height (5'1") plus sized Southeast Asian woman with Spanish descent that has chic messy/wavy brunette medium hair that reaches to my shoulder, oriental skin, slightly upturned eyes, small lashes, chocolate brown irises, cute flat nose, heart shaped face, full cheeks, cupid's bow lips, a small beauty mark on the forehead, and naturally straight teeth with tiny gap in front (just imagine that it's a mixture of Marinette from 𝗠𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆𝗯𝘂𝗴, Musa from 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘅 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯, and Alexandra Trese from 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲---cause' my friend told me that I kinda look like them). My sense of fashion is in between emo and boyish plus korean glam, I sometimes let my hair down or styled like Lara Croft reboot.
𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬
Distant, quiet, and timid at first making people thought I'm a demure, modest, and self-effacing that looks "immaculate" or "one of a kind" (due to my protective mom, a reason why I've never been in a relationship) but the truth is, dunno how to initiate a conversation, but a total opposite if I open up---friendly, ambivert, witty, laughing loudly on a daily basis---like my happiness is too shallow, super talkative, eats a lot (yeah I can finish a huge slice of cake or a meal in one sitting), awkward, daydreamer (I got embarrassed from knocking at the door even I'm inside the classroom 😂), EXTREMELY CLUMSY (mostly gets bruises from hitting, bumping my head somewhere, walking into something on my way, and being careless to my belongings), secretly likes affection, easily overwhelmed, prone to melt over wholesomeness, flusters on compliments, lightly blushes on cheesy banters, eager to share what I know (especially about Catholic Church---my past teacher joked that I'll become a saint because of it 🤣), oftenly speaks full of sarcasm with a lowkey crackhead energy citing meme references, and talented girl who can be your no.1 supporter and unashamed to be true to myself but can be awkward to strangers. In terms of leadership, I only educate and guide than being a prefect (I might take the role seriously), will lift my group when there's lacking/incompleteness. About doing projects in school, I become too extra and prepared for efforts, but I'll forget the process in the end.
The extent, I'm expressive, warm-hearted, willig to help, kind, intelligent, supportive, nice, creative, enthusiastic, laid-back, determined, tough, competitive, and feisty outside, but a real softie that can be childish and dramatic that cries so easily (but will enlightened real quick by smallest things that makes me smile) filled with doubts, frustrations, and insecurities with fear of failure that pushes off the limits to to please everyone because they might get dissappointed from expectations---I simply can't stop proving myself too much because I'm a survivor of bullying. But I still managed to be stronger than ever after I stumbled, even it's a slow burn process. I can be blunt, intimidating, harsh, and a douchebag if I receive ends or I got interrupted while doing something. Immature, headstrong, perfectionist, demanding, hesitant, jumpy, forgetful, overthinker, quick-tempered, sensitive, and anxious (no joke, my nervousness makes me think worse scenario will arrive). Though can be procrastinator and arrogant, I raised as a religious 𝖺𝗇𝖽 diplomatic youth, willing to fight what I believe (including my dreams and what's important to me) and what is right. In addition, I have a habit of staying up late and doing sign of the cross to ease nervousness.
Rowdy and feeling-brokenhearted and bitter friend in the group who fangirl a lot, swears like sailor, will call out on people that we loathe, will make fun of your stupidity (in a good way) before helping, and bring gossips, but a hopeless romantic and cheeky (makes banter with sarcasms or pick up lines as an endearment, but gets annoyed if I received sappy or offensive one), Still generous and concerned person in a subtle and different way.
𝗛𝗢𝗕𝗕𝗜𝗘𝗦
My hobbies are singing, drawing, roleplaying, listening to music, chatting/browsing on social media, conceptualizing, writing, and reading some stuffs. I'll include making corniest jokes/puns, sleeping, and dancing when nobody's around or walking like a model if I feel so bold (even I'm terrible at both xD). I also used to learn Italian language a bit.
𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗦
Loves kittens, milk tea, singing at the karaoke, cartoons, iced coffee, memes, cute things, watching YouTube videos (mostly pageants, ASMR, edit audios, and mukbangs), also enjoys playing games on my sister's PSP. Sucker for arts, choir, poetry, night sky, makeup, fun/deep/dumb conversations, Christianity, documentaries (about saints, real crime stories, and inspirational people), reading interesting stuffs, talking about social issues, and creative writing, chilling both indoors and outdoors. Beside that, my music taste are like late 90s-2000s songs (mostly rock, pop, and country) sometimes Catholic songs, kpop and ppop, chocoholic, and a sweetooth as well.
𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗦
Things that I hate are stereotyping, HUGE creepy crawlies (spiders, toads, snakes, and cockroaches), firecracker sounds, thunder and lightning, being left out, loneliness, heart break, blackout, and judgemental people. If I found out that someone hates or backstabbing or being rude to me, I won't hesitate to throw offensive criticisms, leaving them with a "I don't give a f" attitude. One random fact about me is, I 𝗐𝗂𝗅𝗅 vent out EVERYTHING I despise in my entire existence---from bad soap operas to toxicity, worse scenarios in real life, and how terrible is my love life from unrequited feelings that I got, because it's a big deal for me, and I consider forcing me to do what I'm not into and manipulating me as my major pet peeves.
𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦
In terms of triggers...I only have two which are ta𝖨king about divorce/annullment/separation because I came from a generational broken family (it sucks that some people I knew assumed that the reason why I'm overly unaware that someone is interested in me in secret, is I have "high standards" looking for a partner, but the truth is I'm strict and I have a personal preferences...I know my worth and I don't want settle for less!) and religion/beliefs discrimination, cause' there are reasonings that doesn't makes sense because some, sounds too hypocritical, like as if you're a morally good person.
𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 + 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗨𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗦
My love languages are quality time and gift giving, but I actually swoon over physical touch (especially cuddles and cute kisses) and words of affirmation when it comes to having a partner, though I get attracted so easily, matured but can be a goofy person who's nice, friendly, kind-hearted, loving, faithful, and excels in academics is my cup of tea. Whenever I have a real life crush (which is rare), I act the same but deep inside, my heart is about to explode and will eventually share to my trustful friends how I highly admire that person, however if they spilled the beans out, I'll obviously deny it and will cry if they like someone else, it will take some time for me to move on, now I don't care for them anymore.
Best Friends to Lovers is my ideal trope because I find it very cute since you already knew each other before dating (which happened to my 2nd cousin, she married her best friend!)---perfect balance for romance, laughters, comfort, and tears when it comes to sharing your vibes, being there through thick and thin, safe with embraces, and helping each other to grow.
𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗔𝗦
My best assets are smile, eyes, personality, singing voice, artistic skills, writings, intelligence, oratorical skills and I have potential in hosting...so I can consider myself as a singer, artist, orator, speaker, and a top student who's a former active campus ministry member with three roles (choir leader, psalm singer, and reader).
May sounds different but I'm passionate for helping people through my talents and sharing my story to inspire everyone. I may look selfish, but I have a different way on how I show that I actually care also I have a biased sentimental value
Currently a college freshman, learning how to cook. I have so many interests, to the point I don't know what I'm into because of my dreams to become a popular Filipino YouTuber, a novelist, and being part of a successful chorale competing internationally...I also consider joining pageants at school too once the pandemic ends, but maybe.
HP: Remus!
- Remus is also quiet and a bit reserved when he's not in a familiar situation, so your own first impression on him would be a good one, as you'd seem similar to his own personality. He's sweet and is able to start up a conversation if he notices the other person is having a hard time doing so, so hopefully he'd be able to bring out your more extroverted and friendly self after a while so he can be around the more open you. He wouldn't mind you being a bit awkward-he's very much the same way-honestly, the comradery that would come from that would be more positive than anything else. He loves sharing knowledge and learning about new things, so your eagerness to talk about what you know would work really well also! He does a lot better when he knows someone has his back too, so your extra supportive nature would endear him to you as well.
SW: Han!
- Your nicer and more helpful personality would balance out Han's more standoffish vibes when first meeting. You might get on his nerves a bit first, but you'd quickly grown on him and, in turn, make him a bit of a better person. Your ability to be blunt and a bit harsh would serve you well if you ever needed to stand your ground on an issue that two of you have, as he can be quite stubborn.
VLD: Lance!
- Lance can be a bit immature from time to time as well, especially when it comes to trying to be funny or cheering up those around him-he's also headstrong and typically firm in what he wants to do, so your own determined personality would attract him to you a lot as well. He often puts off things he needs to do if they make him anxious too, but if you both recognize that you share that problem, helping each other might be a good solution!
Disney: Flynn!
- Flynn is quite a sarcastic and teasing person, so your own humor would match well with his. He's also quite a hopeless romantic as well, even though he's certainly not one to admit that right off the bat. He enjoys singing, and as he gets closer to someone he feels more comfortable doing so in front of them, so a partner he's been with for a long time would get to see him be more and more open with it. That also applies to activities like dancing.

“You’re so vain” “Give em hell kid” And “I hope you die” I’d love to hear those explanations
Righto! Okay so recap for the people who might have missed it, this is about the radiosnake playlist I mentioned/linked a bit over a week ago, Serpentine & Demonswing. When I posted it I also added an “and if you wanna know why any songs are on the playlist you’re free to ask.” The playlist is a work in progress so some of my answers are gonna be “so here’s the explanation for why it was included but tbh I’m not 100% on keeping it.”
Important things to mention before getting into it: the playlist is build specifically off my headcanons from “Cold Day In Hell,” and so all of the songs act on the assumption that CDIH is “canon.” (tl;dr: they’re exes, because Alastor got scared of emotional intimacy, told Sir Pent he never actually liked him, and ran off after blowing up all his airships.) The first chunk of songs is from Sir Pent’s perspective, the second chunk is from Alastor’s, the third is from them both or about them both, and the last few songs are “I like the vibe but honestly am not sure this fits the playlist.”
Also, y’all are welcome to keep asking me about songs, because this is a lot of fun.
I’m absolutely sure that tumblr is going to delete this read more out of the post but I’m going to put one anyway, maybe it’ll let this one work just to be contrary. If it doesn’t, I apologize for the dash stretcher, that’s just how tumblr do.
So! Explanations:
You’re So Vain (Lyrics)
This one is on the Sir Pentious side, so, although it’s not directly/accurately about Alastor, it is about how Sir Pent sees him in light of their catastrophic breakup.
Verse 1 is less on the nose in its description of Alastor, but you get the impression of someone who is obsessed with how he comes across to other people, and who is far more interested in himself and the image he’s giving off than he is in any of the people he’s trying to impress. A great deal of Alastor’s personality is—or at the very least, comes off as—completely performative. As though to this day he’s still nothing but a radio host performing for a listening audience, even when he’s only talking to one person. The fact that he’s always wearing a fake smile and pointedly providing his own sound effects adds to that impression of a performer who never breaks character.
And the fact that the character in the song is still wholly self-absorbed even when he’s dancing with a partner gives a nice little glimpse into how Sir Pent’s retroactively reinterpreted his last evening with Alastor.
Verse 2 is the stanza that comes closest to completely accurately reflecting what went down between them. First, the alliance between them, the implicit promises that they the were going to conquer Hell and then Heaven as partners in crime—“Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair / And that you would never leave”—and then, the breakup—“But you gave away the things you loved / And one of them was me.” It’s the one line that acknowledges that the character in the song did, indeed, actually love the singer, and wasn’t just performing a role/playing at being in love.
It’s also a line that would ring false to Sir Pentious, because in the aftermath of CDIH, he genuinely doesn’t believe that Alastor ever loved him. He completely buys Alastor’s claim that he was just screwing around with Sir Pent’s emotions for his own entertainment. Words to the effect of “one of [the things you loved] was me” would never come out of Sir Pent’s mouth.
However. Of all the lines in all of the songs in Sir Pent’s portion of the playlist, that one line is the most accurate thing that could be said about Alastor, the blade that would stab into the core of who he is and the role that he played in this story. Because of his vanity—his selfishness, his pride, his obsession with his own independence, his fear of love, his fear of vulnerability, his fear of sharing his life with someone else, etc.—he didn’t just lose what he loved, he did very deliberately and intentionally give it away.
(I’ve always found that line to be the most interesting in the song, for the hint that this vain person did indeed truly feel for someone else, so I’m glad that line fits so well here.)
Verse 3 is just more “what Alastor is like as observed by Sir Pent,” except even more accurately than the first stanza. Constantly running around, constantly moving on from one brief source of entertainment to another (just stuff “threw his support behind the Happy Hotel” somewhere between “gambled on a horse race” and “watched an eclipse”), constantly socializing with dangerous people and people whom he’s going to hurt without caring in the slightest.
Okay so that’s the lyrics.
Making sure the aesthetics/styles/genres of the songs match the character they’re for is one of my high priorities on this fanmix—not to the extent that having the wrong style is an instant dealbreaker, but I’m going to be hesitant to include a song that doesn’t at all match the sound I’m going for. For Sir Pentious, I’m kind of running with two styles.
The first style is “sounds Victorian-ish enough to get a shrug and a nod from anybody who doesn’t actually know/care about Victorian-era music,” so that’s gonna be just about anything orchestral/symphonic that doesn’t clearly fall into a different genre, symphonic metal that sounds symphonic enough to satisfy me, instrumental covers of other songs (string quartets, piano, full orchestra...), things with harpsichords (LISTEN i know that harpsichords are more baroque but they’ve got the right Vibe, you know, they’ve got the Feeling), and things with organ—but like, it’s gotta sound like pipe organ (pipe organ—sounds like a church) and not like Hammond organ (Hammond organ—sounds like a baseball game). Also steampunk, except a lot of “steampunk” genre music sounds swingy/jazzy, so those songs get ruled out because that’s Alastor’s aesthetic. And also, like, actual classical music, but I’m not into a lot of actual classical music, so I don’t think any’s actually made it in yet, lmao.
The second style is based on what the creator herself said about Sir Pent’s music preferences: “Sir Pentious would listen to Blink-182. Pentious would literally listen to stuff like Linkin Park, Green Day, the emo stuff.” So I took "the emo stuff” as “oh okay cool so the stuff I listened to at 15 got it” and ran wild with that. I’ve been most heavily drawing from My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco, and Mindless Self Indulgence to represent that half of Sir Pent’s preferences. (MSI because I feel like that fits an in-your-face and morally jaded villain, P!ATD because their newer stuff fits his flamboyance and exuberance and egotism, and MCR because... because I know them best.) I haven’t yet made much time to carefully comb the discographies of the other bands listed or look into other more traditional emo-associated acts.
Carly Simon’s original “You’re So Vain” matches neither of these styles.
I combed through about 60 different versions of “You’re So Vain” on Spotify looking for ones that meet one of these aesthetics. Like 90% of them were, I’m pretty sure, just various singers adding their vocals directly over a karaoke version of Carly Simon’s original.
In the end, the only one that came close was Marilyn Manson’s cover. He’s a bit outside of the bounds I try to stick in for Sir Pent, but like, okay, he’s industrial metal, but in a particularly goth way, that’s close enough to emo. To my mind, “Sir Pent listens to emo” is like... Sir Pentious’s musical preferences are going to be, 1) counterculture, the kind of stuff that causes conservative Christian moms to go into moral panics, but also 2) mainstream counterculture, the kind of bands that produce huge hits & get featured in major blockbuster movies, but also also 3) slightly dated mainstream counterculture, i.e., at the end of the 2010s he’s listening to the bands that may still be popular but that peaked in the mid 2000s, in keeping with the way he’s trying to keep hip and modern but always seems a little bit behind.
So, in the 2010s, he’s listening to 2000s emo acts. In the 2000s, he was listening to the 1990s’ biggest metal acts (like Marilyn Manson) and possibly grunge acts (things like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins). In the 1990s, he was listening to the 1980s’ biggest post-punk and new wave acts (like The Cure, Joy Division/New Order, Depeche Mode). Always evolving his stylistic preferences, always trying to keep up, but always a little behind. So that’s how I justify putting Marilyn Manson in lmao.
Although that was the only version of “You’re So Vain” I thought fit well enough, I also found a version by Trash Pour 4, a version by Les Reed Orchestra, and a version by Giant Sand that were all very good. Trash Pour 4 is driving me crazy because I can’t quite figure out what genre they are, I just can’t place them—but they’ve got several other good covers that I’d like to take advantage of at some point.
I also found a song called “You’re So Vain (Christian Dior)” by The Energy Commission that’s not a cover of Carly Simon’s song, just a new song with the same name. I’m lowkey considering including on Alastor’s side of the playlist. It’d serve as a very sharp critique of how image obsessed Sir Pent is, there’s some snappy turns of phrase that seem like they’d appeal to Alastor’s sense of humor (my two favorites are “He went off the deep end ‘cause he’s so shallow” and “He’s got a timepiece on his wrist and it says ‘watch me’”), the fact that it’s a critique specifically of high class materialism fits with the fact that I headcanon Sir Pent as coming from British nobility while Alastor’s ancestry is both racially and socially mixed (including at least one close relative who was a slave, I’m thinking a grandparent but haven’t settled on my headcanons yet), and I love when there are parallels like that in playlists about the relationship between lovers/partners/rivals/siblings/any-combo-of-two-people.
The reason I haven’t added it yet is because, by the end of the song, it’s not just a critique of being a rich shallow image-obsessed douche, but specifically of how that culture ties in to exploitative capitalism that’s wrecking human lives and the world—which, in the context of the characters we’re talking about here, would translate into a criticism of Sir Pentious’s very-imperialist-sounding take-over-the-world villain ambitions. Which isn’t something I think Alastor cares about. He probably should, but like, he just doesn’t. He’s a villain himself. I’m sure he’s got his own morals and standards and hard limits but “take over the world” isn’t on his list of dealbreakers. What’s taking over the world include? Mass murder and subjugation? Yeah, he’s cool with that. So that’s why I’m still on the fence about adding it.
Give ‘Em Hell, Kid (Lyrics)
So remember how I said that My Chemical Romance is one of the bands I’ve drawn from most heavily so far in looking for emo Sir Pent songs? Yeah for about a day there were six different MCR songs sitting in Serpentine & Demonswing as I slowly whittled them down to the ones that I thought fit best. “Give ‘Em Hell, Kid” is one of the last three, and actually one that I’m constantly on the verge of cutting.
Lyrically, it’s an Alastor song. There’s mentions of the singer having come from New Orleans (listen... i am a sucker for songs that mention New Orleans, it automatically earns five points on the imaginary “is this an Alastor song?” rubric in my head). The singer is singing about a love interest who’s gone, and he’s making no moves to pursue/reclaim the love interest, wishing them well (“So go on, live your life”), but he’s a wreck and a lesser person without them (“If you were here, I'd never have a fear,” “Well I'm a total wreck and almost every day”), and it’s just getting worse with time, not better (“But I miss you more than I did yesterday”).
The line “Some might say we are made from the sharpest things you say” although directed toward “you,” i.e. the love interest, i.e. Sir Pentious, in my head actually reflects more on the things Alastor said to Sir Pentious: the cruel things he said to Pent—that he’s weak, ineffective, behind the times, a has-been, never going to conquer hell—ended up a self-fulfilling prophecy, because that’s exactly what Alastor’s rampage made happen. Today, as he is now, Sir Pentious is made from the sharpest things Alastor said.
“Your dreams and your hopeless hair” makes me think of Sir Pent’s wild efforts to conquer hell (and, of course, his ridiculous cobra hood), and “We never wanted it to be this way for all our lives” is a perfect expression of Alastor’s regrets/remorse over what his actions have done to both of their lives, but especially to Sir Pent’s life.
And all the references to violence—murder scenes, firing squads, sharpest things—fit with the fact that both of them chose to live lives soaked in blood.
So it’s a perfect Alastor song. The only problem is, it’s an MCR song, which is sooo far outside of my acceptable genres for him. (I’m not gonna get into Alastor’s genres now bc there are better songs to do that on, just know emo ain’t it.) And not only is it outside of his acceptable genres, it’s in the OTHER character’s acceptable genres, which is very messy. I can vibe with “lovers’ songs borrowing from each other’s aesthetic” a LITTLE bit when it’s used to represent, like, emotional synchronicity or the like (ex: both “Roustabout” and Vernian Process’s “Maple Leaf Rag” are on my “Alastor+Sir Pent style fusion songs” list). But MCR is a big departure from Alastor’s acceptable styles.
Plus, the playlist already has two MCR songs, and do I really need three songs from the same band? Unless there’s a really good reason, I try to avoid having repeats from the same band on one playlist—I feel like a good well-rounded fanmix oughta have a diversity of sources. (With “a really good reason” being something like “I’ve got the playlist divided into five sections detailing five phases of the character’s life and each section is introduced with a different track from the same band” or “I’ve got an instrumental version of the song to kick off the playlist to serve as ‘foreshadowing’ for when the version with lyrics shows up at the most dramatic moment” or something like that.)
If I was going to, like, make it a thing, I could. Justify it like “there’s one MCR song that represents them when they’re together, one MCR song from Sir Pent’s perspective, and one MCR song from Alastor’s perspective, like a little triangle,” but like... if I was going to do that I feel like I’d want to do it with a style that’s either representative of both of them or else independent of both of them, and MCR is so heavily a Sir Pent sound. Basically, having three songs from one band would be okay if it was a band that vibes with the overall tone I’m shooting for in the playlist—but it’s not. So I’m very torn on “Give ‘Em Hell, Kid.”
“El Tango De Roxanne” + “Overture” + “I Hope You Die”
Okay before I can talk about “I Hope You Die” by itself, I kind of have to explain its exact position in the playlist and its relationship with the other two songs I just listed.
While MOST of the playlist is chunked up into the four sections I mentioned earlier (Sir Pent, Alastor, both, undecided), within those sections the songs aren’t really in any particular order. The one exception is the very first three songs on the playlist/the very first three songs in Sir Pent’s section.
These three songs, presented in that order, all as Sir Pent songs, serve as Sir “in war, the side remembered is the side with the most style” Pentious the Super Villain making his big entrance like:
youtube
“El Tango De Roxanne” starts slow/quiet, and then (with a couple of brief dips) it gradually builds in volume and pain and intensity, getting faster and more emphatic, switching from mournful longing to nearly-angry anguish, until it ends with a pained scream, steampunkish percussion, howling background singers, and a wailing violin.
And then it pauses, for just a moment.
And then “Overture” hammers you with the most dramatic opening chord you will ever hear on an organ in your life, perfectly matching the energy at the end of “El Tango De Roxanne” and maintaining that level of energy throughout the song.
And then it stops so quickly it’s like someone gasped, holding its breath for a split second—and then some dude yells “You must die! I alone am best!” and the guitars kick in for “I Hope You Die,” leading into a depiction of the most intense, vitriolic, disgusting sort of loathing imaginable.
The build-up from “El Tango De Roxanne” and “Overture” really revs up “I Hope You Die,” the intensity of the organ in “Overture” highlights the intensity of the guitar in “I Hope You Die,” and all together it hypes up what could have been just a dark humor song about hating someone into something that sounds like a very genuine demonstration of hatred.
And taken all together, it makes for a fantastic intro for Sir Pent.
It also serves as a perfect intro to the current state of affairs between him and Alastor—sort of expressing his personal emotional journey on the morning Alastor betrayed him, as his reaction transforms over the course of three songs from grief/despair to fathomless fury.
There’s more I could say individually about “El Tango De Roxanne” and “Overture,” but I won’t, because it’s “I Hope You Die” time.
“I Hope You Die” (Lyrics - warning for a whole stanza dedicated to hoping someone gets raped in prison)
A small handful of the songs in my Hazbin playlists were discovered in and added from existing Hazbin character playlists I found on Spotify before I started making my own. “I Hope You Die” was one of them, found here. Which is why it was added even though it doesn’t fit my strict genre standards, it won me over before I narrowed down the styles I’m working with lmao.
(I feel like “El Tango De Roxanne” was one of those too, but I can’t now find a Spotify playlist containing it that added it before I did. Where did I grab it from? It’s not something I would’ve looked up on my own, something must have inspired me. IDK what though. None of the other songs mentioned in this post were found on other playlists.)
So this song is, obviously, just about how much some dude hates somebody else and wants extremely horrible things to happen to them. It’s sorta... *eyes lyrics uneasily* ... sorta tasteless; but, tasteless in a way that I feel like reflects back on the character singing the song. The feeling I come away from after finishing the song isn’t “the band wants you to think the person they’re singing about deserves this to happen to them,” because it doesn’t even give a reason why the singer hopes this person suffers; but rather, “the band wants you to think that this is the kind of hatred that the character/persona the singer is portraying is capable of, this is the kind of vile stuff that character wants to see done to their enemies, this is representative of the depths of that character’s rage.” Which is why I’m like “yeah... okay, sure, that fits” even though I’m real iffy about the last couple stanzas.
Because for a character who’s in Hell surrounded by people who have stomped on the last dredges of their civility and decency, and a character who’s patterned after a super villain (and, because the series creator dropped the idea that there are heroes/villains in the living world, the only super villain in this setting), and a character who gleefully boasts about being evil, and a character who we know demonstrates very rapid/extreme emotions and expressions of hate/outrage... Yes, I can absolutely see this song as the exact sort of hatred Sir Pentious would level at somebody who’s slighted him. And Alastor blew way the hell past “slighting” him. Alastor, without exaggeration, has ruined his life (afterlife?) and over fifty years later Sir Pent is still unsuccessfully struggling to get back up to the level he was at before he even met Alastor. Right now, Sir Pentious really and truly and deeply despises Alastor.
A song like this—sheer, frothing, unrestrained, vengeful contempt—tells you a whole lot about what kind of emotions Sir Pentious is capable; and it tells you a whole lot about the kind of effect Alastor’s actions have had on him, to inspire this level of reaction from someone who was very close to him for fifteen years and increasingly in love with him for probably a good amount of that time.
Plus, the “You must die! I alone am best!” is such a very, very Sir Pentious sentiment.
So that’s those songs! Again, y’all are free to ask me for my thoughts on more. Yes, most of them will probably be like this, lol.

*blows the dust off of my account just to post this*
Not me arriving to the party, ahem, fashionably late lmao.
10/10—highly recommend if poly-Kiribaku is your thing (as always, mind OP’s tags and minors go away).
Lots of spoilers/rambles/me general fangirling over my friend’s writing under the cut, as per usual…
Okay so right off the bat I am already in my feelings.
Removing his shoes, setting them to the left of yours as he always did.—that shit right there? Perfection. That whole paragraph, really. idk there’s just something about that level of comfort and domesticity that always makes me so damn soft. Making a home with someone, creating habits and routines that are specific to you? UGH. Fucking end me now.
Starfishin’ Kats, starfishin’ Kats, STARFISHING KATS!! ((sorry, I had to get that outta my system lol. that’s so damn cute as well as on brand—you just know that man takes up all the space, like he’s trying to establish dominance even in his sleep lmao. if he’s not doing that then he’s completely curled around you like you’re a safety blanket, there is no in between))
Kiri barely managing to last a day before going full on heart-eyed simp is so damn funny to me. Honey wears his heart on his sleeve and sees no point in trying to mask his emotions overmuch and honestly I love him even more for it; one of us has to be the more emotionally intelligent and it sure as shit ain’t gonna be me or Katsuki lol. ((also what purpose do those sleeves—the actual, non-metaphorical ones—serve anyway?? does he vibe with early 2000s emo/scene styles or…? lmaooooo))
Fuckin’—OF COURSE Kats gets hot over us putting Hatsume in her place. Basic tsundere ass mf (affectionate)
Oh no—we’re such an excitable little bean, running off to the dorms at the crack of dawn to show of our designs!! Cute~ Yeah, I see why they want us lol. Also loving the fact that Kiri still calls Kats Bakubro despite the fact that they’ve been dating for like a year lmao; peak couple energy, we love to see it. But the Katsuki had to pull his ‘idk how to process my emotions so I default to being mean because that’s easy and safe’ bs and totally kills the beat. But omg, when Kiri took off that croc I got instant flashbacks to that one vid where the lady manages to beam her daughter from down the block with a fucking flip-flop; ong it was like that shit had honing abilities or sumn lmfao. Anyway, mf better be glad I like my (anime) men ~emotionally damaged~ lol.
But he makes up for it! He’s trying!! Sis, the growth!!! We really do love to see it, truly. ((but uhhh… I have a terrible astigmatism so I legit thought that Kats had decided to call us a gd Twink and I was gonna fucking lose it. idek where my eyes pulled that fucking ‘w’ from, but now there are tears pouring down my cheeks I’m laughing so fucking hard seND HELP)) Also I have no idea how I’m handling HtH training with that man; between my thirst and total lack of physical aptitude I’d be dying in the gd streets, ngl.
Oh shit, we’re in our feelings. Double shit, a proposal has been made. And third times the gd charm ig because our dorm just fucking collapsed with us in it. Yes, this is fine. ((it is NOT fine)) ((well ig it’s kinda fine, since we’re all together now—but still lol))
Kiri’s fucking eye crinkles—fucking BYE. A lifetime’s worth of eye crinkling smiles’ll definitely do that to ya (but Scar, did you have to do it to us? The correct answer is yes, yes you did lmao)
We called him Kit-Kat, yes!! I’ve always loved that nickname for him, mostly because I’m convinced that he would hate it so damn much—well until he realized that he could flip it on ya. Ya know, some “Then come ‘n’ take a bite, Princess” type shit that wouldn’t work if anyone but him tried it. And he’d be such a cocky lil shit about it too, all self-assured smirks and arched brows, with the only tell that he wants this just as much if not more than you being the way his eye are smoldering with want… Okay, lemme stop lmfao
Anyways!
-the next several paragraphs have been REDACTED due to the reviewer’s attempt to keep up the appearance of having at least some sense of decorum- ((but I see you, pandering to my oral fixation lmfaooooo))
So in conclusion I’m crying, I’m sweating, I’m punching the gd wall. Any questions? No, good, because I have no coherent answers. Head’s not empty tho, it’s so very full of thots lmao…
Excellent work as usual, dear ((tho now I’m hella sad that I’m not married to these men for real ;n;))
Head Over Heels
Pairing: Bakugo x Kirishima x F!Reader
Warnings: SMUT! Minors go away. Earthquake. Blood. Swearing.
Contains: Poly Relationship. Porn with Plot. Slight soft dom tendencies, nipple play, biting, DP, one hole, unprotected sex, voyeurism (kinda), fingers in mouth. Pet names/nicknames: baby girl, good girl, baby, princess, Tink (per Bakugo), slut.
Summary: You were assigned to work with Kirishima and Bakugo as a part of your support course training at UA. What you didn't plan on was developing crushes on the hero course couple and you certainly weren't prepared for them to have crushes on you but, it's funny how things progress and life happens.
SMUT happens post UA.
W/C: 5,395
A/N: This stemmed from a conversation that @thepuckishrogue and I had the other night. I hope you all enjoy these two beefcakes as much as we do <3 I really didn't edit this at all, by the way.
It was nearly three in the morning by the time Eijiro unlocked his front door. He'd showered at the agency after his patrol because there was no way he wanted to risk waking up you and Katsuki. And, to further ensure he didn't, Eijiro tiptoed as quietly as he could through the house.
Removing his shoes, setting them to the left of yours as he always did. He didn't bother turning on any lights, he knew his home perfectly by now and certainly didn't need any lights to tell him where to go. Leaving his bag slung over one of the dining room chairs since the table was covered in your gadgets and other work before making his way down the hall to the bedroom.
When he nudged open the door, his heart swelled at the sight before him as it did damn near every time he laid eyes on the two people he loved most in the world.
Katsuki was starfished out as he usually was with arms and legs splayed wide, leaving you clinging to his body like a little koala.
You'd all been together for roughly seven years though, he'd been with Kat for just a year longer. It didn't really matter though, he was head over heels for the both of you, just as much as he'd been at 17. The girl from the support course that he and Katsuki had been assigned to, charged with helping them with all their technical and support item needs.
He thought you were cute as a button, he couldn't help it, and Katsuki was quick to catch onto his crush, we have to work with her so don't make it weird, Shitty Hair. So, he did his best to keep things strictly professional, just like a real pro would do.
His best lasted a day, 25 hours to be exact.
"You're ripping these sleeves to shreds every other day, Kirishima!"
Just because you'd been recently assigned to each other, didn't mean you didn't know about him. It was just that you specifically were now tasked with fixing his sleeves and anything else they needed.
"I-I can't help it!" He told you standing in the doorway of UA's lab, "I use my arms, like, a lot! And the fabric rips no matter how careful I am! And if I have to go Unbreakable, yeah, there's nothing left of 'em at that point."
He could feel the heat rising in his cheeks as he watched your nose crinkle with thought. Damn if it wasn't the most adorable thing watching you work. The way you paced around examining, muttering words he didn't even understand, he even thought the pen kept constantly behind your ear was cute! He was a goner.
"Alright. I'm gonna figure this out! I just know it. I just gotta think... I'll have another pair of these ready for you tomorrow, two actually so you have a spare, so swing by before training but, I'm gonna make something that'll actually last you. Might take me a while though."
And it did. Not days, not weeks, even after a month you hadn't figured it out completely. Bogged down with other tasks and assignments. Eijiro didn't mind though. It gave him an excuse to visit you, to get more sleeves, and also to check up on your progress. Sitting with you to keep you company and helping when you let him.
"That can't all be for you?" Katsuki caught him walking out of the lunchroom for the third day in a row that particular week.
"Uh, it isn't. Y/N, she's been working really hard trying to update my suit, and, well, she usually works through lunch. Figured if she's working that hard for me, bringing her brain fuel is the least I can do. Wanna come too?"
Anyone else, anyone but Katsuki Bakugo, would have been jealous of how much time their boyfriend was spending with another person. But, Eijiro knew damn well Katsuki had a crush on you too. He saw it in Katsuki's eyes when they'd gone to pick up a prototype gauntlet you made for him.
Hatsume was hovering, pointing out other attachments and modifications you could have made to better your baby. You kept quiet, kept focused only on Katsuki, fitting the gauntlet to his arm, making a minor adjustment here or there, and letting her babble incessantly the entire time.
When she touched him though, touched the item you created, Katsuki looked ready to blow her mouth off but you beat him to it.
"Alright, I need you to back off! He's assigned to me, not you. Why don't you worry about the 500 projects you have for Iida and Midoriya before you go worrying about what I'm doing for these two. Okay?"
She walked off in a huff, muttering about how you needed to be more creative while you just kept working and Katsuki, well, he was grinning like a damn fool.
"Fine! Yeah, I like her! That what you wanna hear? I'm with you though! Not gonna leave you just because I got some crush!"
He'd badgered Katsuki the whole way back to their dorms that night, Eijiro kissed him because he was so damn cute when he was flustered. "Katsuki, you don't have to leave me to be with her you know."
At first, Katsuki balked at what he was insinuating, but, if the redhead was being honest, he hadn't been able to stop thinking about the both of you for weeks now. But, he let his boyfriend sit with the idea for a while, meanwhile, he just kept building a friendship with you.
Until one morning, a Sunday, his day off, his phone started to ring at five in the morning. There were very few people he'd answer for that early, you just happened to be one of them. "Y/N? You good?"
"Kiri! Kiri, I did it! I figured it out! I'm outside, I didn't think, I just sort of came right to your dorm but now I'm thinking that probably isn't really allowed this early but I've got your sleeves, you know, the ones that have been a massive pain in my ass for like three months, and I'm out here because I didn't think about what time it was. I just finished at the lab and came right over-"
He opened the front door and you stopped your word vomit. "Get inside! It's cold this morning."
You both quietly moved through the dorm, whispered giggles in the elevator all the way up to his room where he slipped the fabric onto his arms while you went over specs and technical jargon that were utterly lost on him.
"Okay, now, it's not invincible," You were telling him, "But, it's the most elastic material I could put together but was still able to withstand the texture of your skin in its most rigid state. Now, as that increases, I'll probably have to make more modifications, probably find a new material altogether with the way your progression has been over the last year alone but," You finally took a breath, "but, for now, I think this should work. I hope it'll work..."
You looked up at him with wide, eager eyes. "Could you try it, please?"
He'd been hanging on every word you'd said, so caught up in the sound of your excitement that he had to shake himself from the trance you put him under and shift the skin on his arms.
You moved around him, manipulating his arms this way and that, something he'd gotten very used to in the last couple of months. "Okay, so far so good. But, we both know this is practically child's play for you. I need to know if this can stand up to your Unbreakable."
"I won't go that far in my dorm. I can be a bit clunky when I get like that, and just, big."
Of course, you knew that though. You'd watched their training enough times to know his skillset.
"Yeah, I figured you'd say that." The small pout of your lower lip while you inspected your work had this heart aching. So, he pushed himself just a little further. The collar of his shirt ripped and the little gasp you let out in shock sent an ache right to another body part.
He ignored it though, as best he could at least, and instead looked at his arms. He could see the jagged ridges, the plates of his skin that would usually be poking through were well contained. "I'll be damned. You really did it!"
"Did you doubt me, Kirishima?"
"No, not for a second."
You'd been running a hand down his arm, looking for any kind of tears or split seams, thrilled that you couldn't feel any sharp edges when Kirishima's door opened. "Shitty Hair! The sun's not even fuckin' up what the hell- Oh. Oh, you're here."
"Bakubro look!" He held out his arms, "Y/N did it!" He hugged his boyfriend with his quirk active despite Katsuki trying to shove him off.
You hurried over to your bag. "I didn't forget about you, Bakugo."
"I don't need any modifications."
"Just because you don't need them doesn't mean I'm going to not keep trying to help you."
Eijiro couldn't even hide his shit-eating grin.
"These are strictly experimental and should only be tested outside for the time being." You gently passed him three glass vials. "You already store your sweat in its original form inside your gauntlets which is great for those big attacks but I got to thinking, what if you could have more of a surprise element, something that would help you with stealth."
"'M not really a stealth kinda fighter... quiet ain't me."
"This might be able to change that. See, I think I've found a way to transform your sweat into a gaseous form. A sort of vapor trapped inside these little vials. My rough analysis estimates they linger in about a twenty-foot area for about two minutes without losing potency. And the gas can live within the vial itself for close to a week without losing potency."
He held the seemingly empty glass tube up to eye level. "So, find a way to distribute the gas prior to a fight and-"
"Boom." You and Kiri said together.
"You really only need a tiny spark to set it off but if you ignite it with an AP Shot, I'm estimating an increased damage range of 30-40%."
Eijiro's eyes darted between the two of you, waiting for Katsuki to say something but, his boyfriend only turned on his heel. "Okay. Just keep it down in here. Some of us are still trying to sleep."
And that look that washed over you, that settled into your eyes when Katsuki shut the door behind him, Eijiro decided at that moment he hated it. "I- I thought he'd be happy. He's always looking for new ways to apply his quirk and improve his technique..."
"Hey, I'm sure Bakugo's gonna really like it. He's just grumpy when his beauty sleep is interrupted."
You nodded your head but sure as hell didn't look like you believed him. "Well, I'll let you go back to sleep, Kirishima," You gathered up your bag, throwing it over your shoulder, "If you need anything else, ya know where to find me."
He thanked you about a dozen more times while walking you back to your dorm before marching back to his own and practically knocking down Katsuki's door.
"The fuck is your problem!"
"My problem! What's my problem! She worked hard on those and the best you can do is, Okay, keep it down." He mocked and took off his croc, "Seriously, man, what's wrong with you!" Launching the shoe at him.
"I didn't ask her to do it!"
"So! People can still do nice things for someone without being asked and, it's a really good idea!"
"Yeah, I know it is."
"I'm surprised you hadn't thought of something like it already. You should really be thankful."
"Yeah, I know, I am."
"Y/N looked so tired, bet she stayed up all night again working on stuff probably because of us."
"I said I fuckin' know!"
Eijiro stopped talking then, watched his boyfriend pull his knees up to his chest and look out his window. "Crap, Kats, you actually really like her, don't you?"
"'M not good with these things, Ei. Never have been."
Eijiro sat at the foot of his bed, a hand coming to rest atop his with a soft smile on his face because he, of all people, had first-hand experience knowing how not good Katsuki could be with these things. "You're getting better every day though. You can admit to liking her. That's a pretty big improvement!"
"Yeah, but every time I wanna say something nice to her it gets stuck in my throat! So, I don't say anything and I look like a bigger jackass than I already am!"
He just leaned forward, kissing Katsuki's brow before promising him that they'd work on it together. And it was a promise Eijiro took very seriously.
It took a while, but, Katsuki eventually did start opening up to you. Letting you see little bits of himself outside of the lab. He even started joining you and Eijiro for lunch, beating him once or twice and already in conversation with you by the time Eijiro arrived.
The day he gave you a nickname, Eijiro was smiling from ear to ear. "Always messing with something... tinkering... damn tinkerer... Tink."
Eijiro noticed Katsuki's training times had lengthened and Midoriya, whom he usually stayed late to train with, was already back at the dorms. "Tink, she wanted to learn some basic hand-to-hand combat stuff. Mentioned it once during lunch, so I, ya know, offered to help."
He couldn't have been more proud of Katsuki's progress.
Before he knew it, you weren't just befriending Katsuki but the rest of their little group of friends too. Soon enough, the boys didn't just see you for hero needs or in the lab but simply because they wanted to. Inviting you to movie nights and shopping trips. Anything they could do to be around you and you were always in such a wonderful mood around them, all smiles and laughter. Welcoming hugs and playful touches.
Things were great, like, really great. And that was why Eijiro had been so damn confused the day he heard crying coming from Mina's dorm. "-they're with each other so why do I feel like this? It's so fucking stupid, Mina! 'M gonna ask someone to switch pairs with me, I can't do it anymore."
That look on your face when Katsuki broke your heart months ago in his dorm had nothing on that moment. Eijiro felt the world slip under him, felt everything slipping through his very fingers. He burst through Katsuki's door. "We've got a problem!"
The pair raced back to Mina's room but just found her alone in the room. "I just walked Y/N out but, guys, I think we should talk-"
"Later!" Eijiro shouted. Bakugo already pushing the door open to the stairwell hoping to catch you.
"Tink!" Eijiro heard him yelling after you, saw you turn and wipe your cheek trying to hide the evidence of what happened in Mina's room.
"H-hey guys, what's up?"
"W-wh..." Katsuki choked on the words again but before Eijiro had a chance to explain, Katsuki finally got them out, "We like you too."
You looked dumbfounded. Taking a step back from Katsuki, your head shaking with confusion.
"He's right," Eijiro added once he caught up, "We both like you, like, a lot."
"Both of you?" They nodded in sync, "Like me?" Nods, "But, you're with each other..."
Eijiro was the one to propose the idea of a poly relationship to you, and like Katsuki, you needed time to think, to process. They could practically see the gears turning in your head trying to sort it all out.
"Take all the time you need. And whatever you decide, we'd still like to be friends, if that's alright."
You gave a weak little nod and that was the last they saw of you for two whole weeks.
Katsuki was grumbling something in the evening about how he was going to sabotage one of this own gauntlets just so he had an excuse to see you when they felt the ground rumble. Everyone looked outside and saw the three dorms furthest way collapsing, the fourth starting to shake violently.
"Villians?" Someone asked.
"Feels like an earthquake!"
But panic overtook both guys because they knew the second building, that was your dorm. One look shared between the two was all it took, both of them racing towards the rubble remains.
Katsuki was faster, explosions propelling him forward. Eijiro had to stop along the way despite not wanting to. The fourth building was cracking, falling in large chunks and students were still running for cover. He shifted, holding up as much of the entryway as he could until the last of them were out.
By the time he caught up with Katsuki, you were already bundled up in his arms. Blood coated the right side of your face, trickling down onto Katsuki. He could see your shirt torn open, blood pooling from there as well. "I-Is she?" He was so scared to even ask.
"Her pulse is fine. Passed out a second before you got here. Just gotta get her to Recovery Girl. Gotta get her for a lot of people..." Katsuki gingerly passed you over to him. He didn't even have time to process how small you looked in his arms because he could feel the warmth of your blood from another wound on your back. "Take her somewhere safe and be mindful of aftershocks. There are more still inside."
He remembered telling Katsuki to be careful before taking you and a few others off to safety.
An infirmary had been set up in one of the gyms, temporary sleeping quarters in another since six dormitories in all had been destroyed in the earthquake.
Recovery Girl assured them both that you'd be fine, maybe some scars but fine. They still refused to leave your side until you woke up though. And, by the following morning, you had stirred. Eijiro hugged you before your eyes had opened fully, Katsuki had to shove him back, reminding him that you were probably sore as hell.
You muttered something about how fast Katsuki had been, how gentle Eijiro was when he held you, he hadn't even been aware you knew he did that... but you grabbed both their hands, "Thank you. Both of you."
They intended on leaving you to rest now that they knew you were okay. But your hands tightened in theirs, "Stay, please."
And so you did. Together, you all stayed for the last seven years. The good and bad, you went through it all together.
>>><<<
Eijiro tugged off his shirt and tossed it along with his jeans into the hamper, letting his hair fall free of the tie he had it back in while memory after memory played through his mind.
You could feel the bed dip beside you under Eijiro's weight, never able to get that deep sleep until both your husbands were home safe and sound. You smiled sleepily when he placed a kiss on your temple, carefully leaning over you to give Kat one too.
Most nights, he'd settle in beside you, snores quickly filling your bedroom but some nights, like tonight, he was restless. Too much energy that he didn't burn off during the day. On one hand, that meant work was quiet, on the other, he'd be fidgeting for hours unless something was done.
And so you rolled off Katsuki and into Eijiro, "Eiji, baby,"
"Awe, lovebug, did I wake ya?"
You shook your head, "You know I don't really sleep 'til you're home."
He wrapped thick arms around you. "You've gotta quit doin' that."
Your nose crinkled. "You've known me for how long? You really think my sleep habits are gonna change now?" His rumbling laugh was quiet but you could see his eyes crinkle at the corners even in the darkness. It was such a small feature, the subtlest sign of aging and it filled you with warmth. "You should get some sleep, Ei."
"I don't think I'm gonna be able to yet. Not that tired."
"Want me to help with that?" Kissing the hollow of his throat, moving to the junction of his shoulder and neck, one hand snaking between your bodies so your thumb could brush his nipple. Teasing him in the best ways that had him squeezing you tighter. "Is that a yes, Eiji?"
He slipped a meaty thigh between your legs, bumping it up to rub against your core so you'd give him your little gasps he'd always been weak for. "When you give me such a compelling offer, how's a guy supposed to say no?"
Eijiro drew you closer, smiling before his lips met yours as they so often did. It was a familiar dance that you loved. The way his sharp teeth would so gently tug on your lower lip when he rolled on his back, placing you atop him. His hands grinding you down by the fat of your hips letting you rut against him while you kissed down the center of his chest, playing with each nipple and hearing him hiss before returning to his neck.
"Think I should wake up Kit-Kat?"
"Let 'em sleep, baby girl, he's only got an hour before he wakes up anyway."
The two of you scooted to the far side of the large bed, hoping your activities wouldn't wake up your blonde husband. It was one thing to wake him up for sex but another thing entirely if he was woken up by sex.
Eijiro marveled when you pulled off your shirt, well, Katsuki's shirt technically. Letting it slide soundlessly onto the floor while he brought your tits to his mouth. Swirling his tongue around sensitive nipples before playfully nipping them, sucking harder when your hand dipped below his waistband and wrapped around his hard cock.
Biting down on the fatter part to suppress a sinful moan with how you stroked him, swiping the pre that had accumulated all around his head before gliding all the way down to his base and back up again.
He let you tease and play, bouncing you still on his thigh until he couldn't take anymore. Eijiro flipped you onto your stomach, his hands running over your skin, the curves and divots he knew by heart, and hooked his fingers into the flimsy band of your panties. With a single hardened finger, the fabric tore without a single sound. "You didn't really like these, did you?" His breath was hot on the back of your neck, kissing just behind your ear when you whined. "Yeah, I didn't think so."
His cock rested playfully between your ass cheeks, moving ever so slightly, his hips lazily rocking while he explored with his mouth, making you moan when his thumbs ran over the sides of your tits, and sending goosebumps all over when he kissed your back, halfway down and just slightly off-center, where you had the faintest scar from the earthquake Katsuki pulled you from.
Finally, his fingers made it back to your hips and he hiked your ass right up in the air, those fingers gathering the slick he'd caused and spreading your folds so they could dip inside. "Did Kit-Kat play with you before bed?"
You shook your head. "He had a headache so I got him off so he could go to sleep."
Eijiro pulled you up to him, your back to his front. "We have the best little wife," His fingers sinking in deeper, "You know that, don't you?" Fingers curling against that sweet spot. Eijiro has to use his other hand to cover your mouth. "Oh, I know it feels good but you've gotta stay quiet. Nod if you understand. Yeah, that's my good girl."
He brought the hand slowly down your body, trailing over your nipple, squeezing it just slightly before abandoning them to pay close attention to your clit.
You had to bite down on your lip to stop your cries, screwing your eyes shut while Eijiro set his pace. Just as he felt you tip over the edge, your walls spasming around his digits, he removed them leaving you empty for only a second before popping the head of his cock in your dripping hole.
"Fuck! Eiji-!" You tasted yourself on the fingers he was quick to shove in your mouth.
"Baby girl, I told you, you've gotta be quiet so you don't wake Kat. You've gotta listen."
He sank you down further on his cock, your walls still fluttering around him, still toying with your clit. Eijiro was halfway in when his teeth pieced your shoulder and a moan ripped from the both of you. While he was busy fucking you through your first orgasm, you had your tongue coiling around his fingers. Licking and sucking your juices right off him, starting to bounce your hips, eager to hit that high again.
"Shit, you feel so damn good, so fuckin' good. Take my cock perfectly every damn time." He jammed his fingers further in your mouth, "Take 'em, babe, I know you can." Biting your neck this time so you squirmed on his dick. "Fuckin' perfect's what you are. Ngh, yeah."
The sounds of wet, sloppy skin filled the air around you, and yet the both of you were too engrossed in the other to notice the glaring set of garnet eyes watching the show.
Katsuki thought it might have been a dream at first, one that had him groggily waking up with a painfully stiff cock. He watched with eyes slightly unfocused, Eijiro lifting you up, your tits on full display for him. His husband's fingers buried deep inside your cunt, all nice and warm. Mmm. He wanted to be all nice and warm.
He palmed his own cock when Eijiro told you to be quiet, so thoughtful and you were trying so hard to for his sake. Gods, he loved the both of you so damn much. He wrapped his fingers around himself when your body twitched, and when Eiji teased you with his fat cock, he smirked. But, it was when the redhead shoved those long, thick fingers right in your mouth that Katsuki started pumping.
He took you both by surprise, how quickly he moved to pull you forward towards him. "Get those fingers out of your mouth right now. I got something else you need to suck on." Katsuki tapped your cheek and Eijiro slipped his fingers free.
"Sorry, babe."
"No, you're fuckin' not."
Eijiro laughed, fully this time, no longer needing to hold back. He slammed into you from behind just as Katsuki entered your mouth making him collide with the back of your throat in one go.
"I guess work was uneventful?"
"Ngh, yeah, boring night."
They talked nonchalantly above you. Katsuki's hands teasing your tits so you'd moan around his dick for him. And after a minute or two, Eijiro stopped holding up his end of the conversation. "She got you feelin' good, huh?" The larger man whimpered, "It's so easy to please you, lay the fuck back."
"But-"
"Take her with you, dumbass."
He pulled himself from your mouth with a pop. Strings to spit fell down your chin and the shift in positions had you moaning, now laying on Eijiro's chest while Katsuki loomed above you both, "You blew me right to sleep, Princess. I didn't get to fuck you earlier. Be our good little slut and take us both in one go, yeah?"
It wasn't something you often did. You saved it for when you didn't have to work the next day because of how sore you always were but Kat knew your schedule, knew it was your day off, and so you muttered, "Y-yeah, y-es, sir."
Katsuki went slow, he had to with how full Eijiro already had you. "Damn, Kat. Don't fuckin' break her."
"I got 'er."
You could feel them both sliding into you, Eijiro had an arm around your middle, his other hand was smoothing back your hair while he whispered about how well you took them both. Katsuki's tongue toying with your nipple to aid in distracting you, scarred fingers on your clit, so very different from Eijiro's rough calloused ones and yet, making your moan all the same.
All three of you were panting, coming to a rest with both men stuffed inside you, both pausing to check on you, waiting for the okay to continue on.
Small thrusts at first, barely snapping hips, working opposite each other so you were never left without. You'd tried lifting your head, wanting to see them both but Katsuki hit your sweet spot with a snicker making your head fall back on Eijiro's chest again.
Eijiro barely had to do anything at all, Katsuki's rocking had the two of you moving with him. Though, he did have to throw a hand back, onto the floor, to keep the three of you stable and not let Katsuki fuck you all right off the bed.
The blonde rested his head right between your breasts. "Damn it, Eiji, you're so fuckin' big. Can feel every inch in here. You take it so fuckin well, Princess."
You watched Eijiro run a loving hand through ashy blonde locks. "Yeah, we love you too." Their cocks twitched at the statement.
He gave a hard thrust and you both grunted. "Shut up, Shitty Hair. Or I'll make you cum right fuckin' now."
This time you felt the laugh bubble from Eijiro, "Yeah, think I'm gonna be doing that regardless." He lifted his hips, lifting both you and Katsuki on a slight incline so he could fuck properly. "Maybe I'll take you with me."
A large hand held you in place while he thrust, his voice, low in your ear. "Come on, baby, let's make 'em cum."
"Guys, oh shit, ah fuck!"
Both of them felt you squeeze their dicks, pushing them closer together. Eijiro's hand went right to your clit, his hips picking up the pace while Katsuki latched onto the opposite tit this time moving his own hips, matching Eijiro perfectly. Hitting you so deeply, Eijiro's cock reaching just a bit further.
"'M not gonna last," Eijiro grunted and his teeth on your shoulder sent you over the edge. Katsuki groaned feeling the two of you let go and joining in. Before Katsuki collapsed on your stomach, he pulled Eijiro back fully on the bed so he could properly relax.
You were effectively sandwiched between the two, Eijiro waited for Katsuki to settle and then wound his arms around you both. "You've gotta get ready for patrol soon." His hands trailed down his spine.
"Don't remind me. Didja eat?"
"Had dinner around nine."
Katsuki kissed your cheek. "Did you work up an appetite, Princess Tink?"
The nickname had you smiling. "If you're making breakfast food, you know I'll eat."
"Gotta lemme outta your vice grip so I can make it to the kitchen."
You wrapped your arms behind Eijiro's back and let them both pull free with a grunt, "On second thought, showers to clean up this fuckin' mess, then food."
"Can I have pancakes with whipped cream?" Eijiro asked Katsuki who was already walking towards the bathroom.
"You want whipped cream, ask Tink real nicely. She's fulla cream."
He'd scooped you up in his lap, wiggling his eyebrows, knowing damn well your legs were shot. "Eiji, baby, no."
He pouted that adorable lower lip that could get him just about anything he wanted. "Maybe for dessert."
After a warm shower, Eijiro set you down on the sofa, pulling a dark blanket around you with a kiss atop your head.
"Thanks for putting on a show for me," Katsuki commented just to Eijiro when he walked into the kitchen. "Choking on your fingers was a nice fuckin' touch."
Eijiro kissed his cheek, "Thought I'd give you something fun to wake up to, Blasty. Glad you enjoyed it."

interview: as it is
Wrapping up The Great Depression Tour with only a handful of shows left , I caught up with Patty Walters from As It Is just before the group rocked out a set at The Hi-Dive in Denver to learn more about his favorite vegan eateries, rare studio-moments during the recording of the band’s latest release, and what it’s been like welcoming in a new permanent member.
What’s been your favorite part about this tour apart from other tours you’ve done?
“I think the camaraderie. We love the bands we brought out as bands, and as people. We didn’t know Point North or Hold Close as human beings before this tour, but we were fans of their music and their art, and we’ve gotten to know everybody over the course of however long it’s been, probably about a month now-- it’s bittersweet. Sharptooth were some of my closest friends on warped tour of last year, we’ve seen them on pretty much every day off as well. It’s just been one big happy family honestly this tour; I think that’s the bittersweet part, is you have such a good time when everyone’s here and that just makes saying goodbye a little more difficult. It’s been one of my favorite tours we’ve ever done over 6 or 7 years now.”
What’s been your favorite song from The Great Depression to play live?
“The Wounded World i s always going to be a standout because of the relentless energy of it--I’m just a big fan of songs that really go 100 miles an hour throughout the whole thing, it’s absolutely one of those songs. Equally, opening with The Reaper has been so much fun, and The Question, The Answer has been a nice intimate moment. We weren’t sure if we were going to be playing it out here; it’s been such a fun part of the set, it makes it so much more dynamic and intimate. So there’s a couple standouts, but I think The Wounded World is probably my favorite moment of the set, which is why it’s last in the set and it’s the biggest climax and finale that we possibly could have created.”
Is there any song you wanted to put on the setlist that didn’t make the cut?
“Yes-- and part of the nature and the reason behind is that Ronnie [Ish, lead guitar] is a very new member and only knows so many of our songs right now, so we were limited to songs that we were playing on our most recent EU and UK headline run, which is why this setlist bears so much similarity to that one. But equally, we put so much time and effort and thought into this set so that it does feel theatrical and ... special-- It’s a set that we have all crafted and believed in. Adding “Such Great Heights” [The Postal Service] t o the equation out here has been really fun, so there were a couple that we did manage to sneak in. I think we’re getting Ronnie there maybe one or two songs per tour, just learning the entire As It Is discography slowly.”
When did you guys know you wanted Ronnie to become a permanent member?
“For a while, it’s been a long time coming. Ron was in the studio when we were writing and recording The Great Depression, but Ronnie has been family for a long time--we met Ronnie in 2015 on the Vans Warped Tour, he was living on our bus. He, in the interim period, served as every different touring crew member...you could imagine, as tour manager, guitar tech, driver, and merch. The thing about it--and I think it’s often a thing that gets viewed from one perspective-- is it’s not only ‘Did we want Ronnie to join?’ (which of course we did), it’s ‘Does Ronnie want to commit to these four people, this lifestyle where he doesn’t get to see his friends and family very often, where he doesn’t get paid as much as he probably could back home. For that reason I think we’re really flattered and humbled that he wants to commit the next however many years of his life to this band and us as people. The first real trial period of tour was warped tour of last year. That was Ronnie’s first time playing onstage with us, but we just kind of knew it in the back of our minds, and the back of his, that this was what we were meant to do together.”
Has the dynamic changed at all?
“Oh massively. Ronnie has the biggest personality of anyone I’ve ever met, for better or for worse; some days you’re not in the mood to be surrounded by such a loud presence. He’s one of a kind and he brings so much more energy and sincerity to what we do to our live performance, and engaging and interacting with our fans on and off stage, before and after the set.”
What’s a favorite memory you’ve made with another band on this tour?
“That’s a great question! Doing Disney world with every band on this tour was really fun, that was a really nice moment. We did an escape room with Sharptooth and Doll Skin in Arizona, that was really fun-- I had never done an escape room before, I don’t think most of us had. We were divided into four, which became two teams due to the nature of the escape room-- it was tons of fun.”
With the stark difference sound-wise between Okay and The Great Depression, how have you seen the dynamic of your fanbase change, if at all?
“Well, that’s one of the most interesting, kind of humbling things is that, we were uncertain as to who was still going to relate to this sound, enjoy this sound. One of the most humbling things is that so many fans from all around the world, that have been with us for upwards of five years since we’ve been touring internationally are still coming out to shows-- and it’s like nothing has changed, even though so much has changed. I think it speaks to the authenticity of the art that people can totally really love what we do and really believe in what we do. Yes, we’ve embraced a much more aggressive, darker sound, but it was the only natural evolution for our sound as a band for sure.”
Whatever you guys release next, are you gonna take it slow? Do you have ideas?
“I have ideas. Although, it was a conscious decision to be more present and engaged during the release of The Great Depression. We started writing The Great Depression three weeks before Okay was released, so when everyone got to really appreciate and consume okay, we were busy creatively, consciously invested in this next album. We didn’t get to live in the moment of Okay as much, and I was very aware that it would be a mistake to do that again. We all have ideas for the next record, but we haven’t started writing just yet. Equally, there are exciting expansions of The Great Depression that people are gonna get to enjoy pretty soon--we’re really making this one last.”
What motivates you to get up and keep going every day?
“Honestly, I’ve just made more of a conscious effort to live every day for me, as selfish as that sounds. Being as painfully introverted as I am, the most minute interaction often claims a big piece of myself and my energy. So I very selfishly at times hide myself away in my bunk, or in a cafe or something like that. We’re just working on so many exciting things right now that I don’t really have the time or the opportunity to slow down-- speeding away on a million different As It Is related projects, that’s pretty exciting.”
With you spending a lot of time in cafe’s and such, what’s your favorite place when you’re traveling to stop and eat, a place you look forward to?
“I wasn’t familiar with, but loved Arlo’s in Austin, Texas. Although, the thing about seeking out vegan restaurants on tour is that they’re not always healthy, and I’ve made a more conscious, mature decision to be healthier on tour for everyone’s well being, because I feel like trash if I just eat fake meat and cheese all day. Some of my favorites... I wanna say it’s called ‘Blackbird’s Cafe’ o r something, but it’s in Philadelphia. They do an amazing vegan philly cheesesteak, vegan wings-- they have these root beer barbecue wings. That was a rare, indulgent, ‘eat the trash, feel like trash’ moment, but it was worth it.”
How do you personally fight against writers block?
“Something that I’ve found only more recently--over the last year or so-- is that I hold some of my biggest influences to such a high standard, I put them on the tallest of pedestals. Some of my favorite writers/lyricists are Adam Young from Owl City, Lights, Motion City Soundtrack, Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service. Something I’ve done more recently is--yes, these artists have written some of my favorite songs--some of which I believe to be the greatest songs ever written-they have also written songs that I just don’t enjoy. I seek out those songs to remind myself that everybody is human, everybody falls shorts at least in my standards [when it comes to] music that I enjoy, and remind myself that just because these people are my biggest influences in the world, doesn’t mean that they write perfect songs every time. I love starting songs, and hate finishing songs. I start a lot more projects than I finish; partly because the potential of an idea becomes very romanticized in my head, and a lot of the time the actuality of finishing that idea isn’t as great as the potential that I see in it-- and that is a very difficult battle to win some days. What I do is remind myself that every great songwriter is human, and falls short, and doesn’t write 10/10 songs every day of every year.”
Who did you guys pull inspiration from when writing The Great Depression?
“So, we very consciously paid homage to post hardcore and emo bands, such as Armor for Sleep, Underoath..But equally, being a band from the UK, and having lived in the UK since i was five years old, I listened to so many british post hardcore bands that never got the international recognition that this band is fortunate enough to have recieved. We paid homage to bands like Hero for a Friend, Hell is for Heroes, Hundred Reasons-- the third track on The Great Depression, The Fire, The Dark is co-written with Larry Hibbitt of Hundred Reasons. If you’re from the UK, and you grew up in the 90s and 2000s there was no way to not know about this band. They were on mainstream radio, playing festival mainstages, a giant in UK rock music--but I guarantee none of our fans ever hear of that band, and getting to write one of our songs alongside one of the acts that we were paying tribute to was very cool, very surreal.”
The Great Depression also features a lot of smooth, instrumental transitions between sings--what was your favorite one of those to create?
“I think my favorite to create was the transition between The Reaper and The Two Tongues (Screaming Salvation). I don’t know if anyone knows this, I don’t know if I’ve ever said this, and I don’t know if you can even tell--but in the buildup into The Two Tongues there’s a sample of a song called The Prisoner’s Song, and I don’t even remember who its by, but it was written in like 1925. There’s all this guitar feedback and eerie soundscapes, and our mad scientist of a producer, Machine, had the idea of screaming into the guitar pickups-- because screaming “salvation”, it made sense. [There’s] this never seen, never released video of Machine screaming “salvation” into the guitar. You probably can’t hear it- I can hear it ‘cause I was there: right before the song kicks in , there’s this very distorted sound. It’s a guitar, but you can hear that Machine is screaming “sal-va-tion” into the guitar, and maybe if you really listen closely you’ll hear it now. It’s one of my favorite moments, because i feel like modern music--not even just modern rock music--modern music isn’t as indulgent as it used to be. I used to read about all these incredibly indulgent studio stories that I just feel like don’t exist anymore, ‘cause no one has the time nor the budget to be as indulgent as some of the greats used to be. Getting to play around with silly things that ultimately don’t matter, but equally fulfill you; that’s why they matter.”
If you could spend one day jamming with a favorite musician dead or alive who would it be, and why?
“For me it would be Adam Young in Owl City. Just my biggest influence of all time, somebody that I just respect so endlessly. I think he’s just an expert in sound just as much as he is in songwriting, I just love everything he’s ever done.”
What’s a song--either on the setlist or not--just a song of yours that you hold a lot of personal meaning to?
“Hey Rachel. Just hearing audiences from every end and hemisphere of the world sing your sisters’ name is always going to be hugely sentimental and personal, and it’s a very personal moment of every set we play.”
What is a song you can rage to no matter what, something that gets you hype every time?
“Clever Girl by Sharptooth. Anytime [when] we were on warped tour of last year I would seek out the Sharptooth set and just get a little more fired up, and a little bit more pissed off at the state of the world, and get a little more inspired-- it’s something that I’ve tried to catch as many times as I could on this tour, cause it makes me so much more excited for my set--it’s such a great song.”
If you had to describe your music to someone who doesn’t hear, how would you describe it?
“Where optimism and pessimism come to kick the shit out of each other.”
