synopsis: had your eyes always shone that bright when you smiled? that tingling feeling in his chest; the urge to envelop you and keep you safe like an overzealous guard dog - had it always been there? or had it crept in gradually - born from too many sleepovers tangled in the same blankets, of sticky fingers and bruised knees at the playground, of countless evenings spent at your family’s house, feeling like he belonged there as much as you did? (700 words, sfw)

a/n: both of them are around 14-16 here. let’s not think too hard about the age rn afshsjahd it’s just a lighthearted fluffy bit about childhood friends to lovers <3 tbh i have a lot more of where this came from in my drafts but i’m quite undecided if i should continue with this

suguru could still vividly recall the first time he felt that uncharted emotion creeping in, something that took him by surprise and unsettled him in a way he couldn’t fully understand. it was a warm summer day, and you had shown up at the gojo residence for one of satoru’s needlessly extravagant parties. you were wearing a light floral dress, the kind that swayed playfully just above your knees when you walked, and your hair was neatly braided into twin french braids. the oppressive heat had flushed your cheeks a soft pink, matching the subtle tint on your lips. 

he hadn’t thought much of it at first—until satoru leaned over, casually draping an arm around his shoulder, and whispered with a smirk, “dude, she’s hot.”

suguru stiffened. he almost choked on the pizza he had half-stuffed in his mouth. hot? he’d heard satoru throw that word around a million times - most recently when he showed off his lock screen wallpaper of that gravure model, waka inoue - but never had it applied to you. not you.

not the girl he’d grown up with, who used to shove bugs in his face for fun, who got her first period on his bed and stained his freshly washed sheets in the process, who always snorted like a little pig when laughing too hard. he still vividly remembers your mortified face as you clutched his sheets and refused to stand up - your face burning a deep red. 

hot?? it seemed that not that long ago, that thought alone would have been absolutely laughable. tell that to 8 year old suguru and he would have keeled over, clutching his stomach in a fit of giggles.

but now, 6 years later, that word seemed to make his stomach twist and his throat tighten. he realises it wasn’t the word itself that stirred discomfort - no, it was hearing it come out of someone else’s mouth. it felt like a rude intrusion. almost like… disrespect? it rang in his ears like an unspoken boundary crossed, its presence foreign and uneasy.

so suguru bristled, his jaw tightening involuntarily. “her? c’mon, dude. no way,” he snapped, his voice way sharper than he intended. 

he took a quick glance over at you, unconsciously scowling at the thought of you trying to impress someone here.

a certain sense of sharp, selfish possessiveness seized him. no one should be looking at you like that. he hated the very thought. 

except… maybe him. 

a dark thought invaded him, one that made his stomach twist. he had never viewed his best friend as competition, but when it came down to it… satoru was definitely more of your type, wasn’t he? bright, energetic, and effortlessly charming in ways suguru was probably not, and a big fat flirt, too. satoru was the heir to the gojo conglomerate, and suguru had two divorced parents who couldn’t even agree on what to eat for lunch.

(he wasn’t exactly sure how that last one mattered, but he was sure it did).

“i'm just saying!” satoru had continued, oblivious as per usual. “she used to be all ugly duckling and stuff, but i guess she’s really—”

he loved satoru, really, he did. but he was going to have to kill him now. death by way of punting him into the burning sun, which the weather happened to be perfect for that day. 

“shut up,” he groaned loudly, smacking him in the chest, perhaps a tiny bit too hard. whatever, he deserved it. “she’s like a sister to me. off limits, dude.”

suguru didn’t even fully believe the words as they left his mouth. what the hell was wrong with him? a sister?? suguru, you’re a sick fuck. that word almost felt dirty to say. he didn’t know what exactly he felt for you, but it certainly wasn’t that.

suguru sneaked another brief look at you. you catch him, giving him a quick wave of your hands, and a small, gentle upturn of your lips. 

he swallows hard.

An Incoherent Fallen Skies AU Tangent.

Something I really want to indulge in is Zuka picking his gear back up. I’m pretty sure we’ve all wondered what he was like back in his glory days and what it would be like if he picked up his gear again. Would there be parallels? Would he become a different person? That’s something I really want to explore.

The fandom depicts young B.Zuka to be really flashy, energetic and somewhat arrogant. He’s a man on a mission with trigger fingers. He’s got a ton of achievements under his belt and has done some incredible things before retiring. So to have this blazing Phighter and soldier retire to become a depressed shopkeeper who ubers Phighters for a living now? Oooo the brainworms are speaking in a chorus. The transition period, whatever events occurred to place him here must have been super bad. (looks at his arm)

This AU delves into Zuka’s character a lot. With a war happening and his family’s life at risk, he finds himself backed into a corner. In order to protect his Rocket and Medkit, he can’t stuff them in his truck and drive into the sunset. No, he has to summon his weapon, the one thing he’s been dreading to do all these years. He forces himself to get a prosthetic, forces himself to summon his bazooka, and forces himself to stand up in order to protect the ones he cares about.

And the thing is, Zuka is older and wiser. He’s a very seasoned Phighter and soldier. He knows how to fight and how to get the kill done. So to see him melt into this dangerous persona that Rocket and Medkit have never seen before? They watch him descend into soldier mode.

I’d also like to point out that while Zuka is old (dude is 56 in this AU), I personally HC that demon aging is slower than human aging. I haven’t exactly worked out that HC yet, but I’d say they can live up to 120-140 if they’re smart enough. So Zuka’s still relatively young, his body is just strained from his battle scars/injuries. THE OLD MAN CAN STILL FIGHT. SHHHH.

Another fun thought: wouldn’t it be fun to design Fallen Skies!Zuka to look like younger B.Zuka? Give him an orange bandana, caution tape motifs here and there. Maybe not the shades, he’s not that desperate to be nostalgic. Oooo, a cool jacket? BELTS? THE BRAINWORMS. AUGH. I’m playing around with Fallen Skies designs.

I should actually explain the AU now that I think about it.

Hyunjin thinks that Ni-ki is full of adrenaline! He's impressed that he succeeded in grabbing this amount of attention for his persona at such a young age, not only because of his title as one of the dance machines of the 4th generation but also because of his other talents and natural charm. And also the way he behaves—it's not giving 18 years old; during their dialogs, Hyunjin felt like he's talking to his peer—that much of a sharp mind he has. Also, he thinks that he's quick-paced in everything he does, like he's in a rush. He thinks he likes to do his thing in one try, and it should come out perfectly so he can move on to the next activity. Moreover, he appreciates how creative Ni-ki is! He can come up with an idea in 10 seconds, and shortly after, it will be brought to reality in his signature style. Another thing that I can point out is that Hyunjin would really like Ni-ki to teach him how to keep up with everything. Yeah, Hyunjin may be in the industry for a bit longer and have more experience, but seeing Ni-ki's ambitiousness, he gets the idea, "Wow, this youngster can give me a tip or two; I wouldn't complain." Briefly, Hyunjin thinks Ni-ki's charisma is one of the main components of his recipe for success.

Ni-ki likes Hyunjin energy! The first time he saw him, he thought he's a cocky guy who puts himself first and enjoys the attention he's getting from everyone, but when they got closer and engaged in a conversation, Ni-ki understood that Hyunjin is not the bad guy that he pictured in his mind; he's actually pretty funny and approachable. Ni-ki as well relates to his passion and the internal fire he's exuding, like, yeah, boy, give us everything! Ni-ki thinks that every idol that calls themselves an idol should be like Hyunjin, driven and focused on showcasing their best abilities. During their LALALALA Tiktok Challenge, they had so much fun interacting with each other and having their inside jokes as well, by the way! I think they had or have a meeting planned with the intention to hang up, but the schedules are too tight, and there's no time or good opportunity, but they still have this planned. At least Ni-ki is very excited about this chance to get to know him better. Also, something happened between them in an offline interaction during the winter and early spring; it boosted up their friendship and left them on a very good note. Maybe it's something like a collab for fans that they're planning in the future, and that idea lightened Ni-ki up! He enjoys cooperating with truly talented people who can match his freak. 😜

In conclusion, those dudes are a good fit for each other—in a friendly way! They're both so energetic and pumped up, and they're also both connected by the fact that they love their fans so much. They're willing to invent a new ramification of dancing together if it's needed, and all that to impress ENGENE and STAY.

Gekko as the main gen z falls into the youngest tier, followed by Neon and Jett, the choice is pretty obvious ig

This might be controversial but Iso gives just as much of gen z energy as Gekko, the only difference is him adopting Stiles Stilinsky's personality growing up, this is how we end up with the sarcastic deadpan delivery guy (yes this one is relatable to the op aka me)

Deadlock in the group might be controversial but I think it's funny af if the serious suspitious woman ends up dragged into the least serious friend group in existence (I bet she would make friends with Iso lol)

26-30

Everyone thinks Sova is a serious adult-ass man and gets surprised when they realise he's gen z, he just has a scary accent and doesn't smile and people think he's older than he is (the russian unapprouchable and quiet nature doesn't help this either)

Sage struggles from the same desease called looking serious and being a mom friend but she's actually on the younger side of agents

You might argue Phoenix is younger, but he's the texbook example of the 26 yo dude who one day woke up and decided to be a DJ /affectionate No way the dude collecting shoes would have money for all that in his early 20s (even tho it's debatable)

Yoru might be older, but for a dude who spends his free time by fighting gangs he must be under 30. I know difficult personality doesn't necessarily mean he's young but it would make sense

Raze is fun and energetic but more on the party-person side than anything-for-a-trouble side so she's in this tier. She just gives off the energy of someone who was working in customer service for years and finally quit but still has her violent urges /joking

KJ gives off younger energy, but as someone known for her incredible tech abilities and robots she must be closer to 30. You can't tell me this woman didn't work in IT with tech-bros for several years just to realise she wants to kill people /joking unless

I kinda doubted myself on making Chamber 31 (as he's a famous weapon-maker but let's pretend he got successful pretty early) but he just gives off the energy of the guy who just entered his 30s but acts the same as when he was 20 (immaturity-vise)

Breach kinda falls into same category but for a completely different reason of being in prison (probably for a long time and probably for something he did in his early 20s) so he kinda stopped maturing after this

I can kinda imagine Harbour to experience similar stuff, knowing he used to make money by stealing and selling relics and there's no way he never got caught, right? Harbour and Breach could make good friends me thinks

Skye gives off energy of a woman who was working her entire youth non-stop and them turned her gaze back and she's already in her 30s and realised she doesn't know anything either about herself or what she even wants in life. I imagine this is why she's so concerned for environment. She started to get really into being eco-friendly after going through existential crisis and realising our planet is dying (I can also imagine her using re-usable stuff, wearing tote-bags and making effort to recycle as much as she can).

Astra just gives off energy of this one cool rich aunt who has no children and always brings presents to her nephews when visiting (and to be this aunt you usually need to be 30+ even tho it's optional ahaha)

No one knows Fade's real age and people kinda assume she's younger bc of her style, but she's at the age when she doesn't care what people would think and wears whatever she wants (tho she should take care of herself better, drinking this much coffee can only go without concequences when you're 20, girlie please get proper sleep)

36-40

People like to imagine Reyna as a young woman but in my mind she's on the older side. She just gives off the energy of someone going through hell and back in her life (I know she has a younger sister but siblings can in fact have big age differences) I also may or may not like older women but this one is between me and my ao3 history

Cypher is around 40 I think, simply because he used to have wife and a child and I imagine it's been some time since they passed. Tho probably no more than 10 years, as he still thinks about reviving them (the voiceline about him asking Sage if she can revive anybody), but not to the point of actually following through, as if he mostly healed, but not moved on completely

41-46

Is for Viper and Brim because they are way too tired of others' shit to be younger

If talking seriously, there's no way Brim is not pushing 50s as a literal commander, even tho his problems with electronics might be questionable even for this age group, but I don't see him being older

As for Viper, she as well as Reyna just gives off energy of someone who has seen some shit, also her being a scientist I can imagine it takes many many years to have such recearch it also may be or may not be same situation as with Reyna but this is not a crime

A flip! Has more of a caregiver lean, and is more of a periodic regressor.

Here’s what I mean!

Doesn’t exactly have an age range when he’s regressed. It just feels like an amalgamation of being an infant, toddler and small child.

Regresses involuntarily as a symptom of his mental health, and as a way to help cope with his trauma!

Really shy with others when regressed, but will be a bit more bratty and social with loved ones.

Doesn’t necessarily need a caregiver, but Fionna and Cake are both babysitters for him! He’s alright without a caregiver, but needs help coming down from episodes/meltdowns

Prismo is also a caregiver, and is somewhat strict with him. Like in that one scene in episode 4. Simon feels a bit more safer to act bratty in front of Prismo for whatever reason.

Needs diapers both in and out of regression. The Crown took away his bladder control (along with many other things), so he needs protection to stay dry. Can thankfully change himself both in and out of regression as well!

Fionna accidentally walked in on him changing in the Winter King’s castle, and was like “okay dude just do whatever you need”. Simon wanted to cry from both embarrassment and gratitude.

As for being a caregiver, he takes care of both Marceline and Fionna!

He’s a little more stricter with Fionna than he is Marcy, because usually Fionna and him are in some level of danger, especially when she’s small. He sometimes spoils Marcy a bit, and he’s not going to admit that anytime soon

Regresses both voluntarily and involuntarily. It’s to cope with stress and her mental health.

Sometimes she’ll make certain dates on when she’d regress/dream, and then completely forget them and be pleasantly surprised; like “Yipee small time now! I forgot!”

Usually very energetic and talkative when regressed/dreaming. When she’s not, it’s usually after a panic attack/episode.

Gary, Marshall, Cake and Simon are her caregivers. Gary and Marshall are like uncle-ish, while Simon’s more fatherly. Cake is like a companian cg for her!!

I wanna say the first time Fionna regressed (like in canon) was in episode 6. Like after seeing the Winter King die, she was shook up and had a panic attack while in the Baby-Universe, causing her to regress. Sorta my reason for why she was in that baby mobile thingy at the end of the episode.

Also during that episode ending, the group all just regressed. I don’t make the rules here.

-the most sincerely homophobic in the beginning. You don't just get raised the way he's been and not have some WILD ass beliefs about the world, he eventually unlearns it but being surrounded by dude bros who constantly call things gay as an insult and his tendency to take things litterally DONT help. And it's not like active hate or anything it's just getting raised that gay people are sinners and are gonna burn in hell is definitely a topic you gotta make an effort to unlearn.

-seeing two girls kissing on the streets of florida for the first time??? SHOCKED, litterally did a full head swivel to check if anyone else had seen it and imploded when no one seemed to be as surprised at he was

-Doesnt really even understand why the rest of the band likes casual sex so much, it feels good but at first he thought it was strange there were all of these girl fawning over a him, a technical stranger, and he just goes along with it.

- got his ears pierced about 4 months into earlyklok sitting on the ledge of their shared apartments crusty bathtub

they were all packed into the tiny bathroom, talking over eachother, the room thick with weed smoke, skwisgaar perched over him in the bathtub holding his head straight

pickles did it with a safety pin and an icecube, joint hanging off his lips as he squinted in concentration

Toki didn't flinch, didn't even stop talking to Nathan about the newest Cannibal corpse album that Nathan wanted to buy a cd of

He liked the feeling of skwisgaars hands engulfing his face, it was a touch that wasn't cruel. Plus knowing that the best guitarist he's ever heard in his whole life hands were soft was a fact that he's gonna ingrain into his head.

Murderface and Nathan actually looked mildly concerned at tokis complete lack of reaction

-knows hes capable of incredible violence, the band is also very aware and whenever he gets legitimately pissed off during a argument (like a genuine, seriously bad argument) they'll usually just back off and wait to bring it up later when toki doesn't look like he's three seconds away from curbstomping them

-FAT crush on Nathan but for some reason gets really shy around it??

-Nathan will compliment him and toki will deadass write with a fluffy pink huge glittery pink pen in an equally pink journal kicking his legs and giggling

*Nathan told me when I got that chord I kept fucking up correct that he could *see me improving* EEEEE he's soooo big He could throw me Like a football

-fond of murderface, knows people deal with their own shit in diffrent ways so he doesn't take his insults to heart (usually)

-relationship with skiwsgaar is. Weird.

I'll probably get into it on another post but it's SO complicated like. Were both emotionally constipated around eachother, our relationship used to be so kind and gentle skiwsgaar was tokis mentor and wanted to see him grow but has such anxeity around toki surpassing him he purposely beats him down; and toki doesn't have the work ethic or drive to truly get to thay level and it impedes the progress of the band. But engages with this weird rivalry thats also a form of love and respect like. Your the only one I could ever be worried about being better than me and I've watched you grow so much and I don't know how to express that properly YADDA YADDA YADDA

She’s very devoted to taking care of her siblings after their parents disappeared.

She’s a very dark red color with dark brown hair. She has white freckles that I absolutely LOVE— She’s a little on the shorter side but still very strong. Her horns are small and they twist up very tightly. The tip of her tail is dyed white.

He has a prosthetic arm since he lost his in a big accident. 

He’s a very dull dark yellow and has black hair. He doesn’t like his appearance and is always putting brightly colored stickers and clothes on to make himself look brighter.

His clothes style varies from men’s clothing to a little more feminine but he doesn’t really care.

He’s a firm believer in wear what makes you happy.

Gai goes walking around the castle exploring and finds the flower (a bunch of forget-me-nots) tucked away in a glass cover for safe keeping, and rather than try to play with it he decides to clean the glass and table it sits on.

He finds Kakashi passed out in the library and rather than try to kill him (like one dude in the past) he covers him with a blanket and gently places a bookmark in the book he was reading

idiomatically It’s been a hot minute, but I’m finally back to working on my Dragon Age as Trainers series!

Loghain was a chore and a bore, appropriately (sorry Loghain, the novels can only absolve you to such an extent and with such flimsy aplomb as to be awash with even MORE problems rather than anything cleansing). BUT this was nonetheless fun to adapt into a Pokemon-world concept. I envision him taking more of a crooked general/advisor/pseudo-tactician role amoung a military-tech-state complex. He was once an okay person if you could ignore that he was a bit of an incel after a fling with whom he had chemistry left him for an admittedly sick (affectionate) dude from a sick (derogatory) patriarchy/hegemony/whatever-the-fuck-Fereldan would be in contemporary times, toward which he could never quite stomach acting coniliatory.

ANYWAY team under the cut 

Nidoqueen was caught as an orphaned Nidoran in the forested countryside from where Loghain was once thrown after the untimely death of his mother, shortly prior to a Cold War breaking out. His mother caught sight of a Nidoran lingering near the property and - after seeking the advice of a local Ranger site - ended up rescuing the poor dear. While it remained unknown what happened to her family, his mother speculated that seasonal trophy-hunters that encroached steadily the area may have had some involvement. Nidoqueen is a bit of a symbol for Rowena, so you can extrapolate from there. She’s dignified, fierce, a bit solemn, and more than a little boring (sorry Rowena, calls it like I sees it). She is the Pokemon most likely to be present as Loghain surveys training, institutes policy changes, and monitors and enforces protocol. Her imposing status as the brute muscle behind Loghain isn’t quite accurate, but she relishes the authority it lends the otherwise difficult-to-respect Loghain.

Luxray was caught with the assistance of Maric, who was informed of the presence of the Shiny pokemon by previously-mentioned Trophy-Hunting trust-fund shlubs. The intrepid friends rescued the shiny Shinx (with proudly injured social connections aplenty, and with actual injury to the young poachers), who remained with Loghain after he took particular interest in tending to his wounds and reuniting him with his (sadly already diminshed) family. Luxray is prideful and impish, but knows that his self-imposed status as a symbol of Loghain’s credible micro-level ferocity and macro-level authority is something to be lauded and maintained, for both of their sakes. He enjoyes being pampered and is fond of Poke Puffs, Contests, and visiting open-air Parks where he can freely roam at a slow pace and people-watch with his surly partner.

Volcarona - Honestly folks, this was chosen for little more than the look of it, the concept of pairing it with Frosmoth, and for it’s Pokedex narrative gimmick of it swooping in  - awash in intimidating burning glory - to save forces at their lowest during a cold winter. It reminded me of Loghain and the Night Elves and their pivotal role at West Hill. Also, Loghain sucks the oxygen out of a room like them as well, don’t he?

Decidueye is a proxy for The Stolen Throne’s Night Elves and for Loghain’s role as a rouge-esque figural foil to Maric’s swordsmanship and Rowena’s paladin-style fighting. Loghain and Decidueye reinforce each others’ morbid sensibilities and pessimism, though neither would ever allow the other to be downtrodden; mulish critical thinking is strong gauntlet to be worn, provided it not fester into ponderous and maudlin brooding. (They still brood. A lot. But it’s reserved for the little things, like dirty boots, dull and tired days, and overly-energetic honorary nephews who you wouldn’t mind allowing to be killed...too dark?)

Frosmoth is a force that answers to no one but Anora. Merciless, fastidious, and nigh-omniscient, he serves his role as Loghain’s most subtle watchman and guard, efficiently and tidily. Some say there is naught but a encroaching and enveloping chill to be sensed before the heart is stopped. Anora thinks this is nonsense (how’d the story spread if Frosmoth’s ice is so ever-creeping and all-encompassing, hmmmm???) but will share with anyone but her father that she is aware of Frosmoth’s tendency to nurture those otherwise overlooked in preference of their duties, Frosmoth’s love for a midnight snack of ice cream and frozen Nanab Berries, and Frosmoth’s friendship with Indeedee, which includes such exciting shared-hobbies as overseeing which household chores are done and which need to be improved or which could serve to be met with some innovation. He is overly serious but is not anywhere near as stern as he projects, and has a tendency to let younger children get away with some tom-foolery, provided it serves a purpose of expanding their creative capacities or improving their reflexes.

Indeedee is the only Pokemon belonging to Loghain’s father that Loghain has kept on thourgh his later adult career. He initially served as as a key member of the Mac Tir family for his psychic abilities for therapeutic purposes, as well as physical therapy. He has polished those skills and is one of few friends in front of whom Loghain will allow himself to appear weak, exahausted, and emotionally wrecked. The loss of Loghain’s mother caused him to sublimate his frustrations and feeligs of hopelessness into strategic battles and mental contests, often where he would seemingly seek to lose. Loghain - at a loss - was thrilled when Rowena offered to finally offer the Pokemon some therapeutic services of his own. Better for it and seemingly vivified, Indeedee returned to his family with a new tendency to joke, cajole, or otherwise poke fun at or out of the oft-constipated Mac Tirs. Still, his humour belies pedantry in work and scrupulousness in hobby (he’s become quite an accomplished masseuse, recently, though his constant and increasingly harder practice of it has Loghain a bit scared).

His expression is flat at her reminder that he'd gone tunnel vision away from his task at hand, albeit seasoned grumpy with an occasional twist of features thanks to a flurry of small hands occasionally grabbing and pulling at whatever could be grabbed, patted and slapped on his face. Kong children weren't exactly docile...especially not when promised ice cream. "Yeah, weeeell...what kinda warrior would I be if I backed down from every little altercation? I'm not a PACIFIST, oh-kayyy? I'm a pass-a-fist-on kinda dude."

"FIST PASS-" Screamed a child near his lower back. His fur flinching is indicative of the kid's knuckles bopping his spine...plus the chorus of any other rider that wanted to participate in the 'fist pass', which seemed to be a sort of game if not invented and taught to them by DK, then was a Kong staple when it came to playing rough. Either or, a couple of kiddie punches has him shaking himself out slightly afterwards, which gives the kids riding the DK bus a reason to scream in delight because he pulls no punches either and actively tries to wag them off like a dog with wet, flea-infested fur.

The straggler seemed to be having fun regardless of catching the tail, giving a few desperate swats before spinning around in a circle mid-walk and with a dizzy giggle - kept swatting more and more inefficiently the dizzier they got themselves.

"...well for your sake, I hope so. At this age, they could deeeefinitely tear it off." Whether that's true or not, the look on his face is clear that he wants to mess with her. And verbally is the only way now that he's scooping up smaller Kongs that are spilling off him as his walks like water, and sliding them back onto the 'bus' in a motion so practiced it was like he was just fixing his hair as usual. One got away from him and darted ahead to happily bop up at a low-hanging power-up block, managing to hit out a growshroom.

"Kid-don't-!" But it was like trying to convince a starving animal (currently starving for ice cream) to ignore the first food it came across. After biting into the shroom viciously, the runt of the bunch grew...to about a size or two under DK. Nothing major, really-...until she rejoined her peers on his back, which caused him to sink a bit LOW into his knuckles as he crawled forward with a huff and puff. "Y'know...I'm...startin' to think...the power-ups in a vendor is-...the way t'go!" Teeth gritting, he pauses to take a shuddering breath.

"Ugh. Let's just call it charity work. Our uh...education system isn't so solid. But I mean...you can't expect a strong and highly energetic group like us to do well without a little time in the day to collectively lose our minds, sooo ~ I help out where I can. Dad sends a guardsman sometimes too. Those dudes can take all the biting and clawing-"

As the straggler continues their game of catch the tail or spin 25 times in place, they don't seem to notice how close to the edge of the dock they're spinning until they lose one leg over the side and drop, chest and arms slamming against the dockside with while shocked fingers dig in and scratch the wood frantically. The water below might be shallow, but all the colorful coral beds would surely leave anyone taking a walk down there a nasty cut or two.

The movement of the struggle eventually catches the corner of the Kong prince's eye and he quickly forces himself up under the new weight holding him down, prepared to bolt over as soon as he caught his balance so as to not overcalculate a rough rush over that might send them all toppling over the edge in his haste. "Crap!"

Ah right, I said I’d go more in depth with these guys, yeah? All right, let’s get into it

Also I’m sure you noticed this new fourth character, she’s a prominent character but still technically a side character. I’ll talk about her after the main three. There’s also other characters I’ve made, but I’m just gonna give the main rundown of these guys

Just a note about the drawings, the first one was my first drawing of them (well technically my second as I drew them on paper first, but I don’t have the sketchbook with me and those drawings, specifically the colors, aren’t that great. These are the more definitive original designs), and the second was me drawing them again with a more chibi art style that I sometimes used. I mostly used it for Jojo’s fanart, but I haven’t used it in a while. Great for easily drawing full bodies of characters though

All right, let’s start off simple with blue velvet girl, Cassidy, who’s sort of like the main character

So she’s around 20 or so, and has only been a monster hunter for a couple of years at most, I think it’s supposed to be her second year? Anyways, so she’s very much energetic and feisty, looking for her next target. She means well with her hunting, but she hasn’t fully grasped the dangers of her job yet and is more so just having fun, but over the course of the story she learns more about what it really means to be a monster hunter and matures as a person. A bit generic, but to be honest she’s the one I work with the least

In terms of backstory, so she was from this city that around 20 years ago, was attacked by a giant monster (these I’ve tentatively called kaiju (because I’m not sure what else to call them), they’re basically incredibly powerful monsters who are massive) and destroyed. Her parents died in the city and she’s never met them, given she was only a baby. She was taken in and raised by another family, but she does sometimes wonder who her original family were, even though nobody knows the answer to that

I feel like part of the reason she became a monster hunter should be because she doesn’t want others to be left all alone like her, but I’m not sure that jives with the immaturity I’ve established for her. I mean she isn’t just doing monster hunting because she thinks it’s fun, she wants to protect people, but I feel like that deeper reason may not jive. Eh, oh well

As mentioned in my last post, she has lightning powers as well as dual guns that she wields. I’m not very good at drawing guns so I haven’t drawn her with them. Actually I think Rasmus is the only one I’ve drawn weapons for

But yeah, she’s basically the baby of the group, given Rowan’s in his 30s and Rasmus at least his 40s, but she’s not clueless or anything, just not as experienced. She’s also the one with the most energy, and most likely to get them in trouble. Rowan’s sort of like a big brother to her and Rasmus, she’s not really sure. It’s not that she isn’t close to him, they’re very close, she’s just not sure if she sees him as a mentor, a father figure, or just an older friend. But all in all she enjoys being with them

Also, she’s friends with a guy named I believe Xenos (it’s been a while since I’ve had to recall his name), who has importance to the story, we just haven’t gotten there yet. I’ll explain in another post where I actually drew him (I was gonna draw him in the chibi art but never got around to it because of his design). He’s around her age and is honestly just as, if not more reckless than her. He can be a bit of a bad influence. He usually only shows up when it’s just her around though

Anyways, I think that’s it for Cassidy, now let’s get into Rowan, our red velvet goat like thing

Rowan’s a very chill dude. He’s a bit of a flirt, but not in an obnoxious or annoying way, it’s just casual, and he takes rejection very well. He mostly just wants to have a good time, but he’s also been in this business for a good decade or two, so he knows the seriousness of his job. He’s sort of the glue that holds the team together, as he’s the guy you go to when you’ve got something on your mind or when you have problems you need to deal with, he gives good advice. He’ll also keep your secrets if you ask him to, he’s all around a very reliable person. Though that doesn’t mean he’s not prone to shenanigans. He basically turns off his brain cells when he’s dealing with Cassidy and goes along with her crazy shenanigans, tending to enable her. Though occasionally he can be the voice of reason in these scenarios, usually it’s Rasmus that has to bring them down to earth. She’s basically like the little sister he never had. As for his relationship with Rasmus, well things get a bit more complicated. At first he wasn’t sure what to make of Rasmus, as he’s always keeping to himself. But as the story progresses and Rowan learns more about Rasmus as he slowly opens up, he grows to understand why Rasmus is the way he is and finds him a good person, while trying to help him with his issues. They also become rather good at fighting alongside one another. He wants to tell Rasmus he needs to actually find proper help, but knows that it’ll be a while before they get to that point, so for now he’s good with just being Rasmus’s confidant

So in terms of backstory, he actually has a bit of a deeper connection to being a monster hunter. See, his father was kind of a legendary hunter, being known for taking down kaiju. He retired when Rowan was a teenager (Rowan’s father was rather old when Rowan was born, there’s like at least a 20 year age gap between his parents), and when Rowan started out, following in his father’s footsteps, he had to deal with that immeasurable weight on his shoulders. He was eventually able to find his own way of doing things, not being anywhere near as remarkable as him, but finding enjoyment in what he does, though he does still feel that weight sometimes. He and his father are basically nothing alike, not even physically, Rowan’s father being grey and with a much different horn shape, so very few people nowadays even know they’re related. More people knew back when he started out, as they’d heard rumors that he was the son of the legendary hero (if it’s not clear, I don’t have a name for him), but nowadays it’s not very prevalent, which he’s honestly thankful for. Rowan and his father have kind of a strained relationship, of which Rowan’s not really sure how to approach, and frankly he doesn’t really want to. Nowadays though it’s just these two (I’m not sure what happened to his mother, whether she died when he was young or just left, but he spent most of his life with just his father around), and things get awkward quickly. But Rowan doesn’t hate him or anything

Okay, let’s move on from these two (because I’m running out of things to say) and just talk about Rowan’s skills. So he’s got water powers, another thing from his mother’s side as his father controls metal. I am playing with the idea that Rowan, despite his relatively scrawny figure (at least compared to his father), has inherited his father’s incredible strength, but I’m not sure if I should. I also have no clue what his weapon is. I was thinking a scythe, but I’m not sure. I was also thinking just a giant sword to go with his strength, but we already have a sword user. I dunno

I’m running out of things to say about Rowan, so I’m just gonna move on, and onto my favorite of the group, the chocolate lava cake, Rasmus

Rasmus is the oldest of the group, and unlike the other two he’s very reserved and quiet, being the serious one of the group and frankly, the only brain cell. Though that’s not to say he’s standoffish or a bit of a jerk, he’s actually very sweet. He’s just very withdrawn and tends to keep to himself. As said before, he’s the voice of reason in the group and is probably the reason the team’s still alive. But he also finds he can’t stay mad at them. He’s also probably the best fighter of the group, with his fire powers being a lot stronger than other Capra’s powers, even combining it with his sword. He’s been in this fight much longer than the other two, and it’s changed his life permanently. Also he’s depressed. Not sure how to work that in, but he is. However he doesn’t make it that known, other than just generally how he acts, being all reserved and stuff.

Alright, let’s get into his backstory. So first off, I’m not sure you can tell, given I haven’t shown you very many characters, but Rasmus doesn’t exactly look like a normal Capra (the lady too, but she’s connected to him), having little fur and his hair and fur not entirely matching. He also sometimes has glowing eyes and horns, as well as a particular strength of fire. Well, all of this is because he isn’t entirely a normal Capra, though he used to be. His name used to be Evan, and he looked very different back then, and acted different too. He was an absolute ray of sunshine (though that’s not to say he can’t be now, it’s just a much softer ray), and a bright young man working as a monster hunter, even if he never had much money. When he was young, he fell in love with a girl with a sharp wit and a bit of an adventurous streak (I believe I called her Periwinkle, but maybe that’s just because of her color scheme), though she was also from a family of high status, while he was just common working class. Regardless, the two fell deeply in love, and eventually they eloped and moved to the city Cassidy’s from, and soon were expecting their first child. Unfortunately, despite how deeply they cared for one another, money was a growing concern they couldn’t just ignore or run away from.

Evan was struggling to find work in this big city, until he came across a notice for some agency’s project, requesting able bodied monster hunters in exchange for a generous sum of money, though he would be gone for quite some time. Regardless, he took the job for the sake of his family, and was selected for the project. There, he learned that they were trying to essentially create super soldiers by making a Capra’s element more powerful (or something, never worked out the details), with the procedure also radically changing the subject’s physical appearance. He underwent the procedure, his fur and hair becoming singed with his fire, and became Subject #3: Rasmus.

He was tasked with several assignments, taking on monsters to see the difference in power, and he was indeed much stronger. However, another power he gained, as a way for his body to physically handle his new amount of power and retain its form, is that he could turn into a kaiju like being with terrifying power. As the months went by, more and more assignments started piling up, but Evan was becoming increasingly frustrated, wanting to go back and see his family, especially as his child’s due date grew ever closer, but the higher ups wouldn’t let him, though they were sending them the money. Evan wrote letters to his wife, trying to explain the situation, but unbeknownst to him, the letters were never sent. This eventually grew to a boiling point, when his child was about to be due, but still they refused to let him go back. They ended up giving him an assignment that was close to the city, and Evan, fed up with this project, was planning to desert afterwards, or at least escape for long enough to see his family. It was a mission that required his monstrous form. However, all of that pent up frustration and anger came to a head, and that combined with the fight itself, caused Rasmus to go out of control, his monstrous form becoming a berserk beast (admittedly I don’t feel like I have good enough reasoning for him going berserk, but just go with it, it’s important). He was in a blind rage, and when he calmed down, reverting to his normal state, he found the city in ashes, destroyed by his rampage. Horrified and in a panic, he rushed over to where his house was, desperately hoping he wouldn’t find what he feared, only to find Periwinkle’s lifeless body within its wreckage, him the one responsible. It was at this point that Rasmus reached his breaking point, and was consumed by his grief, sobbing for hours, not even noticing when the organization found him and took him back, lost in his own sorrow of the death of his family. Afterwards, he went in a near catatonic state, unable to do anything. So the organization moved on to Subject 4.

Subject 4 went horribly wrong. They were given the same kaiju like form as Rasmus, and they ended up going mad with power, killing all the members of the project aside from the other subjects, whom all came together to seal them away. After that, Rasmus was free to go, but he had nowhere to go back to. He eventually went back to monster hunting, never telling anyone of his true crimes (for context, the kaiju attack was actually very well known, as the city was huge. There were a lot of people killed and many left homeless and orphans), and feeling guilt for them every day

Let’s get into his relationship with the other two. With Rowan, Rasmus also wasn’t sure what to think of him, but he found Rowan to be a relaxing presence, and eventually decided to open up to him about things from his past. He tells him only bits at a time, but it makes him feel better. He also takes solace in the fact that Rowan will keep his secrets, and feels comfortable around him. As for Cassidy, he likes her well enough, she’s a bright girl with loads of potential, only needing time and experience to temper it, but he’s always felt something off around her. Nothing about her, but a feeling he gets while interacting with her. Once he finds out that she’s from the city that he destroyed, that feeling morphs into guilt. He knows by now that it was an accident, but he can’t help but feel like whenever he sees her that he robbed her of her chance at a normal life. But he’s grown attached to her, and doesn’t want to tell her the truth, at least not yet, because he doesn’t want to see her reaction.

Hoo boy that’s a lot about Rasmus. I worked on him way more than everyone else. Unfortunately despite it nearly being two hours, we still have one more person to go, and that is Hesperia

Hesperia, in contrast to the others, is very snappy and tends to be rather short tempered. She runs some sort of business (I don’t remember if it’s a monster hunting business or something else), and is a recurring side character. She’s a no nonsense businesswoman and does not tolerate buffoonery. She scares Cassidy and Rowan, but Rasmus is the only one not intimidated by her, and is probably the only person she tolerates due to their history. Also she melts, particularly when she gets emotional (aka really angry). She’s a good friend of Rasmus’s and she’s also a skilled fighter in her own right, commanding the shadows and beasts created from them

Now onto her backstory. So she happens to be Subject #2 in that organization’s project. However, a thing with Subjects 1 and 2 is that they hadn’t yet figured out how to properly contain their powers, and as such their bodies are unstable (hence why Hesperia melts). Another thing, and the biggest source of Hesperia’s general anger, is that she does not remember who she was before becoming Hesperia, her memories were wiped completely clean. In fact, this happens to be true with every member except Rasmus, I’ll explain things more in a bit. Hesperia originally thought she was simply created, but after learning that she was once someone, she became obsessed with trying to find out who she was, what he old life was like, only for her to be unable to find anything, nor would the organization tell her (if you can’t tell already, the organization isn’t exactly morally good). This led to her immense frustration and anger, not being able to know what she’s missing in life. And when Rasmus came around with knowledge of his past, she just became even more enraged. She hated him for having what she didn’t, and for trying to act all nice, thinking he was mocking her, despite him just trying to be nice

However, all that changed after the city incident. She saw how devastated Rasmus was, how he’d been destroyed by this tragedy, and she started to think about things. Was having her memories back really worth it? Look how much suffering it’s bringing Rasmus. What if she wound up killing someone she once knew? What if she already had? She started to doubt her motives. And in turn, she started to stop hating Rasmus, feeling sympathy for his situation and even trying to help him, to whatever extent she could. After defeating Subject 4 and Subject 1 leaving, Hesperia stayed with Rasmus, not wanting to leave him like this, and helping him through his grief, trying to help him get things back together. This was how they became trusted friends. In fact, technically speaking Rasmus still lives with Hesperia, just whenever he’s not doing a monster hunting mission

Edit: oh yeah I forgot, the differences in the subjects! Okay so, each subject was made one after the other, and changes were made to rectify the problems of the previous

Subject 1: too immature, refuses to listen. Get older subject

Subject 2: obsessed with remembering past life, has gotten too volatile. Keep next subject’s memories, and change the way of containing power

Subject 3: refuses to do anything after loss of past family. Remove next subject’s memories, but keep method of power containment

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

I adore his personality and appearance, ironically because they stand out. In a series full of giant robots that are designed to kick ass, he's a tiny, nerdy looking, soft-spoken dork with 0 combat abilities. No fancy car sky mode, can't fly, can't shoot lasers, he's just a dude. But despite that he tries his absolute best to be as helpful as possible with the abilities he does have as a therapist. Rung's dedication to doing the best he can is really inspiring to me. It's one thing to be a hero when you have all these crazy powers that make you strong, it's another to understand your limitations and push yourself beyond them in the name of doing the right thing.

Also he's a cutie-patootie.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Besides what I mentioned above? How much of a dork he is. Collecting and rebuilding model ships, being an avid reader, not knowing how to dance, it's just really endearing to me.

100 years by OR30. Specifically, I imagine that someone feeling about him the way the singer does about the song's subject is something Rung would really want. Not even romantically necessarily, just the idea of a person loving you and keeping you in their thoughts. Less of a "This is so me" situation as it is a "God I wish that were me" situation.

Ooooh boy. Loneliness, definitely. The idea that everything we do isn't enough. I'm not going to go one because this will just get depressing.

Any time someone draws or writes him having a positive interaction with another character makes me happy tbh.

A lot of people picture Rung as being elderly (by human terms. I mean, he's millions of years old). I always saw him as being early middle aged, late thirties to mid forties. I blame Lawrence for this.

Realistically, no. He might be short by Cybertronian standards but he's still too big for my house. If it was the other way around and I lived on the Lost Light asva human, still no, they probably don't have human life support equipment there.

If I was a Cybertronian or he was a human, though, then probably. Rung seems like a pretty neat guy that would do his share of the housework. Definitely wouldn't need to worry about him hosting crazy parties.

10. Could you be best friends with this character?

Yeah! He seems like he'd be fun to talk to. Not overly bombastic or energetic, but he's smart, has a dry sense of humor I vibe with, and a test listener. Rung's also a lot more adventurous than a lot of people realize, or at the very least down to doing new things. That's important to me in a friend, someone that I can take out to go exploring.

Delusional Monthly Magazine Episode 12 Review + Final Thoughts - History Repeats Itself

While this anime never really takes itself seriously, the fact that they’re faced with the eradication of humanity and a time limit makes it rather serious, a rather intense way for the finale. The only way to stop it is to repeat what had happened with the Mo Continent in the past—destroy it and have it sink to the ocean once again. However, Jiro’s past self’s father never explained how it was sunk, so it’s up to Goro, on the verge of disappearing, to decipher everything that’s explained in a tablet that happens to show up conveniently.

The way things got intense once Edward injures himself critically after getting out a gun in attempt to shoot Jiro. Wow, this dude has a gun. Taro knocks out Edward to protect Jiro and he hits his back against a column, getting himself critically injured. This is when Catherine and the twins start fighting against the other Motarians in order to stall time for Goro to decipher the tablet. The secret technique the twins learned is revealed to be fusion and they change into a panda! They look like Po wearing a wig. Catherine fights Jiro in retaliation of Edward being hurt. They never really explained the dark aura around Catherine and the sudden power-up for Taro.

I’ve got two gripes. First, Saburo just standing and not doing anything of importance until the whole continent starts crumbling was a bit iffy on my part. He was mainly there to give clues to Goro about the way to destroy the continent wth his song and then transforming into his true form: an ancient bird. Second, while eradication of humanity was presented as severe and intense with Goro and Edward slowly vanishing, we don’t see how other people outside of the continent are reacting towards it or if its affecting them at all. On top of that, Catherine doesn’t really get true punishment for her actions; I guess Edward almost dying was her “punishment” in a way.

The ending is relatively an emotional whiplash after the intense final battle. The Monthly Moso Science magazine, originally on indefinite hiatus, is now renewed with Goro as editor-in-chief as requested by Catherine. Catherine is implied to have finally gotten together with Edward after working together with him for fifteen years (they’re 29 and 34—five year age difference) and now works as a scientist for White Pegasus where they both hold a press conference declaring the discovery of four lost continents in addition to the Mo Continent, they were a part of the M-Continents, apparently. Because of this, Goro and Jiro can’t wait to pursue new mysteries with Taro tagging along once again. The twist is sudden, but it does feel like a good ending as this is an anime about pursuing mysterious happenings. They don’t have to worry about their Motarian selves anymore since they all lost the ability to transform now that the continent sank once again.

Final Thoughts

I’ve seen people online say that they dropped this anime because it’s silly or not to their tastes. Well, everyone’s got different opinions. To me, this was a decent anime. It’s not amazing but it’s not terrible either. It’s somewhere in the middle. However, what I did notice is that the anime never really takes itself seriously until the last three episodes. I think having that one anime you just want to watch for fun without thinking too much about it is necessary. For me, this is said anime.

All the characters are pretty simplistic and one note, which isn’t bad. Taro is lazy and wants to be a househusband to mooch off of his future wife. Jiro is a sassy kid. Saburo is a dog. Goro is energetic and is basically the driving force of the plot. There’s nothing too remarkable about them as characters, other than three of them being able to transform into Motarians. Though, I did like seeing them go on their Motarian misadventures. The villains were a bit lackluster for my taste. Edward didn’t do much until the last two episodes. The twins were either goofy versions of Team Rocket, or surprisingly competent when the plot needs them to. Catherine as a twist villain was a bit obvious, but I did like how it was executed; I just wished she didn’t backpedaled so suddenly after pointing out that eradicating humanity would mean she would lose Edward. I think the characters that shined the most were the minor characters that showed up once an episode and needed a problem fixed. They were great. I quite liked episode 5 with the figure skater and the crazy dogs from episode 8.

The music was nice to listen to. I really liked how upbeat the soundtrack can be. I liked both opening and ending songs and also liked the fact that the voice actors mainly sang them. The ending actually changes once Episode 9 reveals Catherine’s Motarian form. The ending shows the characters in their human forms and then in their Motarian forms. I think that was a nice change.

The voice acting is the best thing about this anime. While a few are still small named, they did a great job with their performances. I think having a mix of veterans, rookies and rising stars makes for a very interesting combination. A lot of the voice actors in this anime participated in Boueibu in the past. I think they knew how to handle crazy plots because Boueibu was a crazy show that didn’t take itself seriously. What I liked most were the guest voice actors. You wouldn’t expect high profile voice actors to voice minor characters of the week. They all did a wonderful job trying new things. For example, Katsuyuki Konishi sang, which he rarely does, in episode 3. Hiro Shimono voiced another in episode 6. Nobuhiko Okamoto voiced a reserved figure skater who suddenly went ham. Having such talents as well as the main leads really show why voice acting is important for anime.

Overall, this is an anime I wouldn’t recommend because of how silly the plot is. It’s mainly something to watch when you’re absolutely bored. If you have watched the show from start to finish, what are your thoughts?
