The Yawning Boredom Of The Word Epic
Good god this is a dull word, right?
Cancon was a fun convention, I liked it a lot. But while I was there, I saw this word being worn into a groove in my brain. It was an all-purpose descriptor, a vague and generic positivity, a detailer of scope and an encouragement for engaging, and every time I saw it I felt a bit of my brain shut down in response. I think some of this is just the normal overuse of meaningless words. If someone described a game as being ‘lit’ I would probably also just as much immediately ignore that descriptor. Packing peanut language, that kind of thing.
And I know it’s rich, coming from me to complain about overuse of cliche. I just said ‘packing peanuts’ which is something I am very selfconscious about saying a lot.
It’s not just the ungoogleable game Epic by Wise ‘Maybe We Don’t Want To Be Called White Wizards Any More’ Wizards. It’s also games like Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Duel at Mt Skullzfyre or Epic Resort or Tiny Epic and their franchise of genuinely exciting little games, or Crafting Epic Dungeons or Epic Scenery or Epicness Incarnate or Warhammer Epic or Epic Confrontation and you might not know if I made any of these games up, or all the other things I saw on the convention floor that just kept using the term, and every single time made me realise that in so doing, I now knew less about them than I would if almost any word was in that space.
What is ‘epic’ for?
I saw it being used to describe campaign sourcebooks and TTRPG material. It’s an interesting quirk of language that back when I was playing 3rd edition D&D, epic was a specific term used to describe the game after 20th level, which is to say, the point when the game’s rules started to break down and all the power design got exceptionally dumb. Of course that’s an old term from an older time – 3rd edition hasn’t been a meaningful frame of reference since the ye olden times of 2019 when Pathfinder 2e came out. In 4e — the best edition — the term is used to describe the last 10 levels of the game, where the game stops being about the movement of heroes and monsters and starts being about the will of demigods and resolutions of kingdoms.
Still, it looks to me now like ‘Epic’ is a thing that is used to describe a campaign that is long and has a huge scope. That’s cool and all, I can imagine a reason to want that, but I think this runs into a problem I have with the landscape of TTRPGs with prebuilt content in the first place. I don’t actually have much interest in modules or campaign setting information myself because I will almost always want to make my own, to tell my own story. Buying a campaign is weird enough to me, but then buying a big campaign, especially an extremely long campaign has all the aspirational purchase energy of the kind of person who buys roof racks for their sports utility vehicle that’s never going to be used to drive anywhere but work in the city and the shops.
Epic dungeons are somewhat in the same space in that they’re very large commitments of time and energy to a large space. Spaces are interesting to me because a space has an ideology and a purpose. The nature of a dungeon is that it’s a place with a purpose and you have to work out exactly what that means for a world — if there’s a dungeon the size of the Imperial City underneath the ground somewhere with its own ecosystem, I’m left wondering why it’s there, what’s the ideology of a structure like that.
Epic Dungeons are Dungeons, but big! Dungeons where you go down into them and what, have to spend time making beachheads and establishing places you can come back to? This is an idea that always feels to me like it works better for a videogame like Diablo, where there’s a system in place that lets you ‘save’ your progress, or a game world like Dark Souls where you can operate completely at your very edge of survival, where the nature of the place you’re going gives you a chance to restock yourself, and you don’t have to leave it except to empty your pockets.
And like, those worlds make for fun videogames but that’s a videogame? There’s no sense of verisimilitude or ideology of place in a videogame, certainly not compared to the vast freedom of a TTRPG. Yes, I’m saying Dark Souls is worse at giving a sense of place and a world than graph paper. And I should, because I’m right.
So like, what use is an Epic Dungeon as a thing you buy and drop into a world? It seems like you need a world that’s made for it, a world where it made sense for there to be an epic dungeon and a playstyle that supports it.
Epic challenges also feels like a strange place to start because what about them is epic? The scope of them? I guess that can be a way to make something feel big and impressive, but when a RPG sourcebook is promising ‘epic challenges’ I have to wonder how they make that feel that way. I remember keenly Exalted with its vast scope and how little that scope felt like it existed or mattered because the world kept winding around the same four or five people and the same villain. Are these games full of really good structural design that allows you to convey a deeply complicated scale of a problem with a huge variety of variables in a meaningfully handleable way? Or are they just full of art that shows very big things? Is it a dwarf with a big axe leaping through the air? Because that just feels like heroic fantasy, and I’ve got that.
I feel that in some cases there’s also an element of low-key snobbery around some of these ‘epic’ encounters where what they mean by ‘epic’ is ‘players can fail.’ Like there’s something about ‘epic challenges’ that means I know how to represent a real challenge, you don’t, and with all this there’s the precarity of a failure state hovering over things, a failure state that, being honest, for an appropriately epic sized kind of challenge, you won’t really see, because, like…
You don’t tend to survive epic failures.
Worlds don’t tend to survive epic failures.
It isn’t that any of the time, the impulse to use the word epic is a bad thing. It’s not like any of these companies are going to hurt for using a word that I personally just happen to think exists at the same level of writing effort as a gamer webcomic about two guys on a sofa complaining about the size of an Xbox controller.
I predict if Ettin gets to read this, he’s going to, before he finishes reading the article, send me a discord message saying ‘lol, epic.’

Welcome, Heroes!
This Kickstarter will fund the release of Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition, the second edition of our superhero roleplaying game, and the companion volume Pinnacle City’s Most Wanted, a compendium of villains and information about Pinnacle City.
We also hope to fund two supplements: Modern Gods, an epic modern-day superhero sandbox setting by Sean Patrick Fannon, and Blood & Justice: Shadows of Nocturne, a gritty and mysterious "Iron Age" superhero setting by Bill Keyes.
If things go really well, we have a few surprises in store, as well.
Originally released in 2013, Prowlers & Paragons proved to be a sleeper hit that developed a loyal fan base and made its way onto a few “Best Of” lists, despite its cult status.
After five years of playing, expanding, revising, and updating the original game and listening to your feedback, Mastermind Len Pimentel called in "Henchman #1" Sean Patrick Fannon to help him create Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition.
The spirit of the game remains the same, but the rules have been taken apart, refined, and carefully put back together. The new and improved rules have more depth than the original game engine, but they make for a faster, easier, and more exciting experience.
GAME MECHANICS
Want a preview of the game? Download the free Quickstart Rules here!
Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition is designed to let you play any kind of superhero game you can imagine. Because we aren’t tied to a specific world, setting, or property, we made sure you can play characters of any power level, from street-level vigilantes to iconic mega-heroes who deal with intergalactic threats. Whether you're dodging bullets or battleships, we've spent the last five years finding the perfect balance of abstraction and crunch to make sure the game is just as fun either way.
We also made sure you could tailor the rules to suit your style of play. From lighthearted Saturday morning cartoons, to modern day comic books or superhero movies, to the dark and grittier side of supers, you can do it all in Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition.
Character creation is fast and flexible, using a simple point-buy system that gives you lots of choices and enough detail to make those choices matter. Once you know what you’re doing, you can throw a character together in minutes and create exactly the type of hero you want to play.
Don’t know what you want to play? We’ve all been there. That’s why there’s an optional Random Hero Generator to help you get going. Or you can use one of the 15 fully playable heroes provided in the core rules.
Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition uses ordinary 6-sided dice and a simple yet robust dice pool mechanic that makes action resolution fast and exciting. The rules allow for both narrative and traditional success-or-failure based task resolution, letting you play however you prefer. In fact, you can use both methods at the same table!
Whether narrative or traditional, the rules are designed to keep you in your character’s head. When you play Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition, you aren’t playing an author, narrator, or comic book publisher: you’re playing a hero!
Combat is fast and cinematic, striking a balance between abstraction and simulation that gives players meaningful choices without bogging them down. We’ve even used these rules to run epic battles with hundreds of combatants on the table!
If you're ready for that preview, you can download the free Quickstart Rules here!
READ ALL ABOUT IT: TESTIMONIALS!
We introduced Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition to Bruce Harlick, Steve Peterson, and Ray Greer, three guys who know a thing or two about superhero roleplaying games, and here's what they had to say.
BRUCE HARLICK (Editor, Writer, and Designer for Champions and many other tabletop and electronic games): "P&P is an elegant super heroic system that is loose enough to let people play larger-than-life heroes while still providing enough crunch during conflict resolution to be totally satisfying. It's like a bridge between the crunchy games of the 80s (Champions) and the modern day aesthetic. It plays fast and fun and players' actions are only limited by their character conception -- and their imagination. Two toasts from Foxbat's Secret Lair on this one!”
STEVE PETERSON (Co-Creator, Champions; Original Partner, Hero Games): "P&P is a smashing amount of superheroic fun that I've enjoyed playing. And did I mention fistfuls of dice? If you like a game that's fast-moving and gives you the feel of your favorite comic-book heroes, P&P delivers.”
RAY GREER (Writer & Designer, Champions; Original Partner, Hero Games): “I really had a fine time with the playtest. It offers a really interesting balance between flexibility and customization for character creation. And it is rich in detail without feeling like a miniatures game for combat. The highest compliment I can pay is that if we were designing Champions today, there are several ideas I’d have liked to steal wholesale.”
THE CORE BOOKS
When our diabolical plan comes to fruition, the two core books we'll be releasing as part of this Kickstarter campaign are the Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition Core Rules and the Pinnacle City's Most Wanted villain sourcebook.
Let's take a look at each!
Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition is a full color book that contains everything you need to roleplay in any kind of superhero setting. It includes …
Streamlined rules designed to help you create exactly the hero you want to play, from street-level prowlers to iconic paragons and everyone in between.
An optional Random Hero Generator for when you just don’t know what kind of hero you feel like playing.
A simple and intuitive system for advancement that lets you decide how quickly the heroes develop and ties advancement to reaching milestones in the story.
A core game engine that allows for either a narrative action resolution or more traditional action resolution system, and in fact lets you use both in the same game.
A fast-moving combat engine that emulates all the action and excitement of comic book combat. Plus optional rules to make your superheroic slugfests as four-color and fantastical or gritty and realistic as you like, letting you set the tone of your game.
A huge list of weapons, armor, gear, and vehicles you can use in your games, plus rules for superheroic gadgets, customizing your gear, and building your own headquarters.
Guidelines for using the game’s narrative ruleset to handle disasters, hazards, hostile environments, and other extreme conditions and situations.
A massive library of animals and extras—some ordinary and others less so—plus 15 fully fleshed out villains and 15 ready-to-play heroes.
Loads of advice, tips, tricks, shortcuts, strategies, and suggestions to help you create nefarious villains, exciting adventures, memorable campaigns, and game sessions that feel like a comic book stories instead of super-powered dungeon crawls.
Designed as a combination rogues gallery, adventure supplement, and setting guide, Pinnacle City’s Most Wanted is intended to help make life as easy as possible for gamemasters. Within its pages you’ll find …
An assortment of opponents and supervillains of varying power level, from street-level criminals to cosmic beings that threaten the entire planet, if not the entire galaxy.
Every villain described in enough detail to let you use them as they are, but with enough room for you to make these characters your own and fit them into your game word.
Every villain's entry also includes a description of an important location in Pinnacle City or in the greater Pinnacle City Universe, plus a number of adventure seeds.
A variety of groups, organizations, and peoples, from assassins’ guilds to ninja clans, organized criminal enterprises to shadowy government agencies, technological overlords to supernatural underworlds, hidden races to alien invaders, and more.
As with villains, every group, organization, or people is described in enough detail to give you a taste of who they are while leaving room to make them your own, and each description includes additional adventure seeds.
To combat all these menaces, the book introduces readers to AEGIS, one governmental organization the heroes might actually consider their ally. Maybe.
Last, because players may one day grow tired of doing the right thing and yearn to take a walk on the wild side, the last Chapter of this sourcebook includes rules and advice for playing the villains and running villainous games.
The main purpose of this Kickstarter is to give these books the treatment they deserve and provide you with the best product out there, one filled with full color artwork by amazing artists. As of the time this Kickstarter went live, the status of each book is as follows:
Prowlers & Paragons Ultimate Edition is already complete, fully written, edited, and ready for layout.
Pinnacle City’s Most Wanted is nearing completion. Should it fund, we expect the book to be fully written and edited and ready for layout within 30 to 60 days after completion of this Kickstarter.

Becoming the Showrunner aka “Hey Tumblr, didya know there’s a Doctor Who RPG?”
Ever been watching an episode of Doctor Who and thinking that it’s not that great? Or you think it’s really good and it gets your creative juices flowing? Ever said to yourself, “I could write a better episode.”? Well boy, do I have the game for you.
This is the Doctor Who Roleplaying Game by Cubicle 7, and it lets you run tabletop roleplaying adventures featuring the Doctor, their companions, or even your own original characters! (Before we go forward, no, this isn’t sponsored. I just really like this game.)
With just this book, you can run a ton of different games in the Doctor Who universe. Explore the universe in the TARDIS, follow the investigations of a Torchwood cell, jump into action as a group of UNIT operatives, or even fight in the Time War. The possibilities are endless!
But how does the system work, you may ask?
It’s actually pretty simple. You roll 2 six-sided dice (it can be any d6), add the result of both dice together, and then add any bonuses from an attribute (your basic statistics) and a skill. Both must be related to the type of your roll you’re making (Your GM will likely tell you what to roll.). It’s as easy as that. The fun part comes in what your actual result is. The game has a sort of “degrees of success” system. If you pass the test by 9 or more, you get a “Yes, and...” result, meaning you succeed at what you were attempting to do AND another beneficial thing happens. For example, not only did you dodge the shot from that Cyberman, but it hits the computer behind you that you were hoping to disable! There are other results of course for each degree of success or failure. There’s “Yes, And”, Yes, “Yes, But” (You succeed, but something bad happens), “No, But” (the vice versa of Yes, But), No, and “No, And” (You failed and also some other bad thing happens.)
But how do characters work?
Let’s look at the 12th Doctor’s character sheet and dissect the anatomy of a character. First, as mentioned before, we have attributes, the basic stats of you character. These are Awareness, Coordination, Ingenuity, Presence, Resolve, and Strength.
Awareness is how perceptive and aware of your surroundings you are. Coordination is kinda like Dexterity in other games. Ingenuity is how intelligent your character is. Presence is your charisma. Resolve is your determination and willpower, measuring how much you can be persuaded. Strength is self-explanatory (it’s your physical strength.)
If you’re playing a human, 6 is the maximum you can have in these stats. Aliens and Time Lord characters can have higher stats than the human maximum.
Also worth noting is there are no hit points in this game. When you take damage, it’s dealt directly to your attributes. They can heal back though. If 3 of your attributes are reduced to 0, however, you’re dead. For an example, if a bullet hits your character in the arm for 3 damage, they might lose 2 Coordination and 1 Strength.
Next is skills. As with other games, these are the things your character is good at. There are 12 skills in total. Athletics is anything that involves physical activity. Convince is how good you are at persuading people. Craft may sound like it’s about making things, but it generally covers any creative activities your character is good at. Fighting is your ability to handle yourself in close quarters combat. Knowledge is things your character knows a lot about. Marksman is how skilled you are with ranged weaponry. Medicine is your expertise in the medical arts. Science is how good you are at sciencey things. Subterfuge covers the rogueish actions (sneaking, pickpocketing, lockpicking and breaking into places). Survival covers your ability to survive in the wilderness or hostile environments. Technology covers using and repairing tech. And finally Transport is your ability to control vehicles.
Next are traits. Traits help flesh out your character and help define their personality and capabilities. There are both good and bad traits. The good ones, of course, give benefits, and the bad ones give penalties, but they are useful for expressing your character’s faults. Traits are further divided into minor, major, and special traits. I’ll get more into these when I explain character creation. There are all kinds of traits. Attractive means your character is more physically attractive to others, Hot Shot means you’re character is an ace at driving/piloting vehicles, Cowardly means you’re not very likely to stick around when things get scary, and Impulsive has you jumping headfirst into danger a lot of the time. There’s tons of cool traits, including the ones that let you play Time Lords, aliens, robots, and cyborgs.
Next is Story Points. These are similar to hero or fate points in other systems, but they are slightly different. You can use them to get a clue from the GM, gain extra dice on rolls, bump up your degree of success, restore half of the damage you’ve taken to your attributes, have another character instruct you on using a skill you don’t have so that you can complete an action, build gadgets, make minor plot changes (with GM approval), donate them to another character in a dramatic moment, or do the impossible (again, with GM approval). You start with 12 Story Points, but some traits reduce your maximum Story Points (such as Time Lord). These are replenished at the end of an adventure.
Finally, see that little number 10 in the hexagon in the Doctor’s Stuff section (stuff is of course the stuff your character has on them.)? That’s Tech Level. It represents what level of technology your character is familiar with. For example, the Doctor is a Time Lord, so he’s familiar with most forms of tech, giving him a Tech Level of 10, whereas a human from modern day earth would be at Tech Level 5. If you try to use tech that’s above or below your Tech Level, you’ll take penalties on rolls when using it. Obviously using things below your TL incur less of a penalty.
So how does character creation work?
You start with 24 Character Points, 18 Skill Points, and 12 Story Points. Character Points are spent on Attributes and Traits, and Skill Points are for buying Skills (duh). Remember how I mentioned the different types of traits before? Good traits cost you Character Points and bad traits give you more Character Points to spend. But don’t just load up on bad traits! You’ll be giving yourself a lot of penalties alongside all those good traits you’re hoping to buy. The book even suggests having a limit on how many points characters can get back from bad traits. As for the minor, major, and special categories I mentioned earlier, minor traits cost or give back 1 Character Point, major traits cost or give back 2 CP, and special traits have their own costs, often involving reducing your maximum character points.
As for Skill point spending, you can divide your points however you want amongst them. However, there are also Areas of Expertise. When you have a skill at 3 or more, you can spend 1 skill point to gain an Area of Expertise in that skill. This is a part of that skill your character is particularly good at. For example, in Technology, you can have an Area of Expertise in hacking, repairing tech, or using computers. Whenever you make a roll that involves your Area of Expertise, you get a +2 on that roll.
Also, at the end of character creation, if you have any Character Points left over, you can use them as Skill Points.
That covers most of the basics of the system, though of course there’s a lot more to it than that. The game also has a cool, Whovian approach to combat, where at the beginning of each round, you declare what you intend to do during that round and then get put into one of 4 categories. Talkers go first, followed by Movers, followed by Doers, with Fighters going last. This ensures that characters like the Doctor can try to talk down the enemy before characters like the Brigadier can open fire!
If you live in the UK, the game is available at this web address:http://shop.cubicle7store.com/epages/es113347.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es113347_shop/Categories/Doctor_Who . Otherwise, you can find the game on Amazon and at other online retailers.
There are also other books if you wish to expand your games.
The Core Rulebook that is currently available was made during Peter Capaldi’s run, so it only contains things from Series 8, so if you wish to have Doctors, companions, enemies, and new traits from different eras of the show, then the Doctor Sourcebooks are for you.
Defending the Earth: The UNIT Sourcebook provides you with advice and rules for running adventures involving the Earth’s finest alien-fighting army.
The Time Traveller’s Companion provides more info on time travel and the history of the Time Lords. It gives Time Lord characters more traits to play with, and even lets you make your own TARDIS!
All the Strange, Strange Creatures provides more information about the aliens and enemies of the Whoniverse, and even provides advice on making your own aliens and making characters of various Whovian races.
The Gamemaster’s Companion helps GMs by giving advice on how to run games in the Doctor Who universe and how they can spice up adventures. It even comes with 3 premade adventures.
All of Time and Space provides you with premade adventures for when you just want to do a quick one-off game, or you’re stumped for your own ideas.
Paternoster Investigations provides you with advice for running adventures set in Victorian times and provides stats for many of the Doctor’s Victorian friends.
The Black Archive lets you play UNIT characters beyond the military branch and gives insight into the many artifacts UNIT has sealed away.
Finally, The Silurian Age provides you with info and stats for prehistoric and Silurian adventures and also gives rules and stats for using spaceships in your journies.
I hope this post has helped you discover an awesome roleplaying system based on my favorite show of all time. I hope I wasn’t too confusing in my explanantions, but just ask if you need any clarification. I sadly haven’t been able to play this game much, but hopefully I can change that soon because I like the system and show a lot. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. If you’d like a place to discuss with other players of the game, you can join the game’s unofficial forums at this address: http://dwaitas.proboards.com/ Again, I hope this encourages more people to check out this awesome game!

This publication features 100 unique things characters might encounter in an otherwise mundane collection of loot and includes guidelines for ways to introduce Oddities into your game sessions or stories in a fun and compelling way. Have you ever needed to stock a treasure hoard? If you are the storyteller for a game, the answer to that question is undoubtedly a resounding yes! At the end of a long and perilous quest, the heroes (and their players) usually look forward to some tangible material reward for their efforts. But it can be difficult to get beyond randomized coinage and a handful of gems, especially if you are ... 100 Oddities for a Viking Encounter Regular price: $2.99 Bundle price: $1.44 Format: PDF Welcome to the tenth title in Skirmisher Publishing’s popular and ongoing “100 Oddities” series! "100 Oddities for a Viking Encounter" is a thematic sourcebook that contains lists of 100 Items, 20 Places, and 30 People & Monsters that can be used separately or in conjunction with one another to add some evocative details to a Viking-themed encounter or to construct one from scratch. These elements routinely cross the line between actual mythological elements and meta-references to them, and storytellers can decide in any given case whether they are dealing with something legendary or merely reminiscent of it. Oddities are things that stand out from the ordinary, and prompt both game masters and players to wonder about them. Oddities may clutter a shelf or lie forgotten in a corner but are not defined by where they are so much as what they are and are unusual by their very nature. A dead rat in the basement of an abandoned building is not an oddity, but the same dead rat with its eyes sewn shut is. Oddities make you think about why they exist, how they ended up there, even what the hell they are, questions that are key to an engaging and invigorating roleplaying experience. 13 Times As Odd, Half As Much [BUNDLE]
Publisher: Skirmisher Publishing
This special 50% off bundle contains all 13 titles in the popular "Oddities" series of universal sourcebooks, including five Platinum bestsellers and the just-released 100 Oddities for a Chaotic Mutation! Price for this bundle is less than it will be later because some of the titles are currently discounted for the Halloween Sale, and it will be even lower for anyone who has purchased any of the "Oddities" titles through this or an affiliated site.
100 Oddities for a Chaotic Mutation Regular price: $1.99 Bundle price: $1.00 Format: PDF Welcome to 100 Oddities for a Chaotic Mutation, the 13th entry in Skirmisher Publishing’s series of “100 Oddities” titles! There are actually a lot more than 100 mutations contained in this mini-sourcebook. Many of the entries in the d100 table include several sub-entries or sub-tables, increasing the variety of the table far beyond a single century of options, and we have included four ancillary tables that turn this mini-sourcebook into a complete system-neutral mutant generation package. Oddities are intended to aid storyteller creativity, turning possibly bland areas or gaming episodes into something more, and the goal of this publication is to make things more fun and to take your imagination in directions it might not otherwise have gone. They ... 100 Oddities for a Creepy Old House Regular price: $1.37 Bundle price: $0.69 Format: PDF Welcome to "100 Oddities for a Creepy Old House"! This sourcebook features 100 strange and unique things that characters in game sessions or stories might find while exploring a decrepit old home. Oddities are the little touches that fill up the corners of lives. In our own mundane world, they might be limited to old, chewed pencils, unused key-fobs, or a half-finished decorative spoon collection awaiting the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore. In the worlds of our imagination, however, they can be so much more. What oddities might be found in the halls, on the walls, or occupying the shelves of a Creepy Old House? Let’s find out ... Oddities are intended to aid storyteller creativity, turning possibly bland areas or gaming episodes into something more. The goal of this publi... 100 Oddities for a Found Car Regular price: $0.68 Bundle price: $0.34 Format: PDF Welcome to the “Oddities” series of sourcebooks, each of which presents 100 imaginative elements, curios, and details to add to games and stories in whatever way you like! Oddities are things that stand out from the ordinary, and make you — and your characters — wonder about them. This edition of the Oddities series looks at items that might be found variously in the trunk, glove compartment, or elsewhere inside a vehicle found by one or more characters. It is primarily intended for use with modern, horror, post-apocalyptic, or near-future science fiction role-playing game scenarios. Oddities are intended as aid to storytellers, turning possibly bland areas or gaming episodes into something more, and the goal of this pub... 100 Oddities for a Graveyard Regular price: $1.37 Bundle price: $0.69 Format: Watermarked PDF Welcome to 100 Oddities for a Graveyard, the fourth entry in Skirmisher Publishing’s popular "Oddities" series! As roleplaying locales go, graveyards are classic, and can play a part in just about any type of game. As long as adventurers venture and people die, there will be graveyards. Fantasy, historical, urban, modern, horror, and even sci-fi or post-apocalyptic games can all benefit from the occasional introduction of a graveyard — and we have the Oddities to help you “flesh” them out. Oddities are intended to aid GM creativity, turning possibly bland areas or gaming episodes into something more, and the goal of this publication is to make things more fun and to take your imagination in directions it might not otherwise have gone. They fill in th... 100 Oddities for a Sewer Regular price: $1.99 Bundle price: $1.00 Format: PDF Welcome to “100 Oddities for a Sewer,” the eleventh entry in Skirmisher Publishing’s bestselling “100 Oddities” series of universal mini-sourcebooks! Sewers figure in a lot of roleplaying games, especially those set in or involving cities and, from the lowly rat-slaying forays of fledgling heroes to quests against monstrous beasts that dwell within them, they can keep adventurers busy. They also can allow travel below, to, or through intervening places (including those you might want to visit even less than the sewer itself). They might also be a haven for criminal elements or street folk, or a hideout for those who cannot stand scrutiny by the light of day. Sewers exist from age to age, and could figure in an ancient setting as easily as a modern or future... 100 Oddities for a Thieves' Guild Regular price: $0.99 Bundle price: $0.50 Format: PDF Welcome to Skirmisher Publishing’s Oddities for a Thieves’ Guild, second entry in an ever-expanding series of curiosities for places absurd, bizarre, creepy, devastated, enervated, and frustrated (we can go on and come up with an entire alphabet of abject adjectives, but we have already calibrated our cogitation contraptions to alliterative mode). Oddities are the details that can transform a 10’x10’ room into a memorable encounter and can be mundane or magical, trivial, obtuse, unusual, unsettling, and even horrifying. You provide the big items like critters, adversaries, mustachioed villains, history, treasure, and context, and we give you embellishments that can enhance any encounter — or hijack it for a hard left turn or even an about face.... 100 Oddities for a Treasure Hoard Regular price: $1.99 Bundle price: $1.00 Format: PDF Welcome to "100 Oddities for a Treasure Hoard," the ninth entry in Skirmisher Publishing’s popular "Oddities" series! 100 Oddities for a Viking Encounter Regular price: $2.99 Bundle price: $1.50 Format: PDF Welcome to the tenth title in Skirmisher Publishing’s popular and ongoing “100 Oddities” series! 100 Oddities for a Thieves' Guild Regular price: $0.99 Bundle price: $0.31 Format: PDF Welcome to Skirmisher Publishing’s Oddities for a Thieves’ Guild, second entry in an ever-expanding series of curiosities for places absurd, bizarre, creepy, devastated, enervated, and frustrated (we can go on and come up with an entire alphabet of abject adjectives, but we have already calibrated our cogitation contraptions to alliterative mode). 100 Oddities for a Treasure Hoard Regular price: $1.99 Bundle price: $0.62 Format: PDF Welcome to "100 Oddities for a Treasure Hoard," the ninth entry in Skirmisher Publishing’s popular "Oddities" series! At the end of a long and perilous quest, the heroes (and their players) usually look forward to some tangible material reward for their efforts. But it can be difficult to get beyond randomized coinage and a handful of gems, especially if you are ... 100 Oddities for a Wasteland Regular price: $0.99 Bundle price: $0.31 Format: PDF Welcome to 100 Oddities for a Wasteland, the sixth entry in the “Oddities” series of sourcebooks, each of which brings you 100 imaginative elements, curios, and details to add to your games, in whatever way you like. Oddities make you think about why they exist, how they ended up there, even what the hell they are, questions that are key to an engaging and invigorating roleplaying experience. Oddities are intended to aid GM creativity and turn possibly bland areas or gaming episodes into something more. The goal of this... 100 Oddities for a Wizard's Tower Regular price: $1.99 Bundle price: $0.62 Format: PDF Welcome to 100 Oddities for a Wizard's Tower, the fifth entry in the “Oddities” series of sourcebooks, each of which brings you 100 imaginative elements, curios, and details to add to your games or stories in whatever way you like. They fill in the corners of a bookshelf, a room, a level, a scenario, with all the sorts of things that add interest but take loads of time to come up with. A good oddity awakens curiosity and creativity, in player and storyteller alike, adding interest to an encounter, or even making one out of nothing.
