Yes!! I totally agree with everything you've said. Dong Sik going to Jin Mook's house as an intermediary was definitely partly so he could keep an eye on what Jin Mook's planning and because he wanted to protect Joo Won. (and because it would've been weird if he didn't go)

I do find it interesting that Jin Mook chose Joo Won to be his guinea pig. Obviously, I believe Ji Hwa was starting to suspect Jin Mook and Dong Sik. Jin Mook got the vibe, so he decided to change lanes to twist the narrative in his favour. I think Jin Mook saw the influence and determination Joo Won has and concluded that he is an idiot. A gullible, foolhardy idiot. He only saw all of Joo Won's negative traits, believing he could manipulate him.

I'm not 100% sure if it did work tbh. Joo Won didn't seem to be completely swept into Ji Mook's games but he wasn't completely suspicious of him either. Considering the context Joo Won has been given, it makes sense that he wouldn't suspect the victim's father. The only person who would add any evidence to suggest Ji Mook has done any wrongdoing is the man Joo Won has been suspecting for 10 months... who's been playing mind games with him for 1 of those 10 months... so, he's not going to fully trust him (but at the same time, joo won can be sooo blind... cause of his traumas)
Don't get me wrong, I love my man Dong Sik. He means so much to me. But Eps 5-8 Dong Sik frustrates me (a little) because I feel like he could have communicated with Joo Won in a much healthier manner that would have been beneficial to him and the case.

(imagine if he had this conversation earlier?? before it got to the point where he had to make very sad promises. I don't blame him, I just think it would have been interesting) But... I know he's traumatised and doesn't trust Joo Won to follow the necessary steps, I know, I know. His reasoning is 100% valid and sound...

(hjw man.... see the trauma pls for once just see the trauma. see the man not the suspect!!! i'm begging you!!) BUT DAMN! I understand Joo Won's frustration and desperation towards the end. He clearly wants to know, he wants to follow protocol (to an extent), he wants to know for the right reasons... soooo???? Then when Dong Sik does tell Joo Won, he only does it because Jae Yi is in trouble and he just info dumps on him. (major tangent here: I think the time between episodes 1-4 is something like 7-14 days in the canon. So, it only took Joo Won over a week/maybe two to conclude that his 9-month-old presumptions about this 20-year-old cold case are wrong. I think that's pretty impressive. Considering how hostile Dong Sik became and how much Joo Won struggles with other humans... I think he doesn't get enough credit for how quickly he changed his mind about Dong Sik) Good thing Joo Won proves that he's trustworthy (and for Jae Yi supporting Dong Sik in moving the plot along), otherwise the story probably wouldn't have gone anywhere.

They would still be in the basement just going around in circles saying "tell meeeeeee now" and "what if i don't wanna??" (and then kissing like idiots)
(idk maybe i'm too soft on joo won. i've been on his "side" since day 1, i never had to adjust to his character. i laugh at him 24/7 but i always see where he's coming from)
I don't really know what my point is anymore. Let's just enjoy the pretty screenshots/gifs cause I'm not really making sense. Anyway, thanks and bye!
what i love about the episode 6 basement scene is Dong Sik's reaction to Jin Mook asking for Joo Won's number. He looks taken aback, uncomfortable, and scared. there's even an audible sigh. i love that despite what jwds put each other through, even in the early episodes there were moments of them showing genuine consideration for each other (especially Dong Sik -> Joo Won)
