Rising from my shallow grave just to say…
Yeah, im not angry or bitter about LMK Season 4 (which i haven’t watched yet but do know a few things about—) decimating my headcanons about the other Demon Kings and that all the other Kings are dead
Totally normal about this knowledge, absolutely. (And not bitter about all my struggle to research and design the demon kings for myself for a lmk project i had—not at all) /lh

Do you ever think about how in Chinese Mythology the Six-Eared Macaque and the Macaque Spirit Demon King are equated to being more or less the same thing?
The Macaque Spirit being a member of the Seven Sages and the Sworn Demon Brothers alliance Sun Wu Kong had pre-jttw…
Well I do, because I’m just insane about the monkies and their mythology and angst, but I think I may be the only one that thinks this deeply about the kid’s cartoon and the mythology it’s based on.
Oh and I absolutely see two things as canon (though in actuality it’s headcanon) to LMK from this tangent:
1. Our Macaque is NOT the Macaque Spirit Demon King and I’m unsure an Macaque Spirit Demon King ever existed
2. Sun Wukong definitely showed DBK the most mercy as his former beloved sworn brother because he somehow led to either the disappearance or death of the rest of the Demon King alliance
(since in the JTTW novel, he fights the Lion Camel King which is one of the Seven Sages for stealing his and the gang’s weapons in their sleep and very few demons that cross SWK escape him alive so my explanation for why DBK is the only demon king we will ever see in the show is that the rest are dead)
… yes, the payoff to this post is that I have a Demon King AU where Macaque did somehow end up becoming the Macaque Spirit Demon King instead of the Six-Eared Macaque (he does still have six ears, it’s just not what he is known for and I just want my meow meow to live up to his jttw counterpart being canonically near identical to swk in strength as much as appearance)
((I cannot promise the AU masterpost any time soon though, unless I shirk all of my responsibilities to write it /lh))

★The Fuckers [Fanart]★
These two fuckers cause me so much brainrot. I’m finally getting more comfortable drawing these two so I have this to share!! These happen to be design ideas for my AU,, which is still unnamed,,,, oops.
Everything is bound to change over time and such but this is a starting point! Also,,,, hi,,,, I’ve been lurking on all platforms a bit but I’m looking for LMK moots and friends! ;]
(If you wanna know a bit more read below!!)
Tumblr media
Wukong and Mac both have a bunch of glamors up at almost all hours of the day. Overtime they’ve both grown to be a little more okay with dropping some of them, much tot the request of MK and Mei. They both have yet to fully drop all their glamors but maybe one day they’ll get there! The relationship between these two is very on and off. At the pleading of MK, the two somewhat get along but not without a lot of bickering and poking fun at each other. Its a mess!!
Very much some found family shenanigans! Hoping to finally get into the groove and do other characters eventually! Anyways, that’s it for now! :]
Quick Reminder!!  I DO NOT allow people to reupload, repost, claim, trace, reference or use my art without my Permission! If my art is posted anywhere else other than my accounts it’s not mine! If you like my work, consider following me or commissioning me!!

It’s au explanation time
I will just drop here a little of plot nothing too detailed cuz I want to draw it
But this way you can see if you like this or not.
Pls be nice with me I’m an artist not a writer and this was my first time,so I’m really really sorry if there are mistakes or bad stuff.
PS: we need a name.
————————————————————————words:1700
If then have any questions, pls ask so if u want I can explain things better✨
————————————————————————
So sweeties for my story I need to put down some premises for who didn’t read “the journey to the west”
-I have no idea why Guanyin knows everything that happens, I don’t think that she can see all; for me it’s most likely that she is informed by the spirits that guards Tripitaka.
-wukong has 4 generals: ma, ba, beng and liu. (In my opinion they were likely killed by macaque cuz when he took the monkey king throne they are not there anymore)
-sun wukong was kicked out two times from the group;
One time during the LBD arc. (The second during macaque arc but we won’t get there)
-people can be resurrected in many ways apparently
Ok it was short and I’m sure many of u knew this already but I wanted to make sure.
————————————————————————
After leaving his monkeys, his generals and macaque with a promise of a soon reunion, sun wukong the monkey king, along side zhu bajie, came back to the pilgrim group to save Tripitaka. Again.
In this particular occasion out of happiness the Chinese monk assured to the monkey king that as an act to show his gratitude for the monkey, he would never recite the migraine spell again. Sun wukong felt a sense of relief that unfortunately didn’t last long…
At the first occasion Tripitaka used the fillet spell again…
It was so painful.
Once again his master trusted more the words of others instead of his.
this was also painful.
He was again used, he was again a weapon, he was once again fighting to save his master and brothers from some demons, a situation that could have been avoided if the monk just had listened to the great sage…
Why didn’t he listen? Why NO ONE ever listen?!
This.was.painful.
I guess that if you pull too hard a rope, no matter how strong it is, it’s going to snap.
He wanted to leave but couldn’t or Tripitaka would have found a way to get him back.
He felt so miserable, his monkeys would have never let him feel this way…
His monkeys…
Macaque!
Sun wukong was able to contact macaque with his astral projection.
The black monkey was so happy to see the king, he had been waiting for him for months and he was sure that his friend didn’t abandoned him…
He couldn’t have abandoned him…
But this happiness was really one sided.
Wukong needed to be “rescued”.
-
Wukong was on his knees, he felt his head exploding for the migraine spell that Tripitaka was reciting no stop.
The monkey king tried to attack the monk, to finally gain his freedom, maybe something more, maybe he wanted his master to feel the same pain that he constantly felt.
now he couldn’t even move, but he thought of it, macaque emerged from the shadows.
Wukong with one of his many tricks had got away sandy and pigsy; and it was very easy for the shadow monkey to take care of the monk and the white dragon-horse.
It was over…
He was free, wasn’t he?
Wukong cold hear his brothers coming back, he needed an excuse.
A demon attack!
From someone that he couldn’t have expect it!
Someone he knew!
Someone like…
When his brothers arrived wukong accused macaque to have killed their master and he, taken aback, had been unable to do anything to prevent it.
Macaque was confused, shock , so shocked that he couldn’t even make up words, he could just watch wukong and something about him was off…terribly off.
Before macaque knew pigsy and sandy were over him, he tried to escape but was stopped by sun wukong himself, fangs very visible.he was terrifying.
Pigsy and sandy were once again at his tail, macaque saw no other option but to fight, and he did and he killed the two pilgrims.
Eyes on wukong, the king was once more of his knees and he held his head very tightly, exactly as if someone was reciting the fillet spell again, he was agonizing at this point, but no one was telling the spell, macaque would have hear it.
Was sun wukong faking it? It looked pretty real to macaque.
He got close to the sage, still very confused about his betrayal.
why didn’t wukong just got away with him?
Was he afraid that his “brothers” could find them again?
Why did wukong stopped him from escaping?
And why is he agonizing like this now?
But as soon as macaque touched the king shoulder he jumped over him, keeping his staff again macaque throat, with a scary grin on his face,shouting about how macaque killed his master and brothers;
The black monkey didn’t know what to think at this point…
This wasn’t his sun wukong.
The last thing macaque saw was the king staff up on his head.
Now he was free…
Then what was this terrible sensation?
He needed to be punished, his master would have punished him from what he did.
But the only thing wukong could do was to keep moving like if someone was telling the fillet spell, but there was no pain.
There was nothing.
-
When macaque woke up everything hurt, sun wukong wasn’t there anymore…and he should be either! Wukong killed him! How could he be still alive?
To stop this stream of consciousness was Guanyin and her disciple Moksa.
She had brought him back to life and she was expecting an explanation…
“Would you be my warrior this time?” She gently asked.
Wukong needed to be stop.
in the meantime The monkey king was back on flower fruit mountain where his generals were waiting for him.
Wukong told them everything what they needed to know but in that moment once again the king was keeping his head in his hands, like if was having a strong headache, but once again there was no pain.
The four generals were concerned but incredibly happy to have their king back…
It didn’t last long tho as macaque, along side guanyin, soon arrived on FFM to confront the monkey king.
They exchanged some words, too few for macaque, then wukong was ready to fight but Guanyin started reciting the fillet spell.
This time while wukong was on his knees the pain was there and it was real, this made the monkey king so mad , so mad that yet someone could recite that spell, so mad cuz he wasn’t free yet. All this rage made him stood up and he was moving towards Guanyin with his staff in his hands. He had to get rid of her so he could be free!
Macaque stopped him and the two of them started fighting but even with Guanyin constantly reciting the spell the two monkeys were evenly matched.
They fought for a really long time…
(I would like to show this fight drawing it maybe in a cool way)
The four generals and the monkeys couldn’t do anything if not watch everything in disbelief.
Wukong had macaque on the defensive and he decided to throw his staff at macaque and ends things there but then macaque grabbed it. He grabbed the monkey king staff!
It was heavy yeah but he could lift it, and so he could use it!
He hit the still shocked monkey king crashing him on the ground and immediately stopping him from moving;
He should have killed sun wukong right there but he…he couldn’t…he couldn’t kill his sun! And he shouted it to Guanyin.
And the goddess just smiled at macaque.
With the help of the four generals and moksa, macaque was able to seal away the monkey king on his beloved mountain…
“The monkeys will need a new king” she said with a warm smile at macaque; the six eared monkey still had the monkey king staff in his hands when he turned his face to the generals and the monkeys, they were all bowing before the new monkey king.
Guanyin brought back macaque where he and sun wukong killed the pilgrims…actually it was just him.
The budhisattva gave him 4 pills of immortality and she told macaque to resurrect the pilgrims.
Why didn’t she just resurrect them? Like she did for him?was she giving him a choice?
Macaque slowly gave the pills to sandy, pigsy and the dragon-horse; but when it was Tripitaka turn he esitated…
he was the reason wukong went away from him. he was the reason for wukong pain. he was the reason wukong was seal away. he was the reason they had to fight. he was the reason wukong was like this now.
He crushed the pill of immortality in his hand, maybe wukong would have eat it and this thought made him smile a little.
Just a little.
He explained everything to the 3 pilgrims… the four of them got the scriptures and the journey to the west seems to have a different ending.
-
Many many many years in the future…
After everything that happened bai long ma, zhu bajie, sha wujing and macaque the monkey king became brothers.
They stopped the circle of reincarnation and continued to live as friends in the modern world.
Meeting at pigsy noodle shop one day macaque found a baby, an abandoned one…
“What do mean “me”?!” Macaque was basically screaming at this point.
“You found it. Besides it can’t be so different from taking care of the baby monkeys.” Bajie said not even looking at the monkey king, he was too busy making noodles
“It’s.very.different.” Said macaque through gritted teeth
“Older brother could you-“
“Sorry liu’er” said wujing “I don’t have the space to raise a child”
“Ao lie pleaaaaaase” macaque was practicing beginning at this point “u have a granddaughter that should be the same age-“
“C’on liu’er” interrupted pigsy “we are not saying that u need to do all by yourself, just that you are the best out of us to take care of this human child.”
Macaque scoffed but he felt something for this child “alright…but I want full support”
“You got it, so how do we want to name him…”
Macaque smiled “Qi Xiaotian, I really like it.”
And so macaque raised MK everything went well. until the day MK lifted macaque wukong staff…

Unbound Shadow AU (continued)
We have established Macaque decided to “go with” Lady Bone Demon over Sun Wukong.
Now we see what happens after that decision /lh
(Yeah, i AM unhinged and inspired about this au, and i could be talking at a wall and still be just as passionate)
(Formerly called a loyal shadow au)
It has been 500 years since Macaque has seen the world (since his death)
(I went ballistic at 12am one night when I realized the monkies had pseudo-canonical ages on their pokemon trainer cards—Swk at 5k years and Mac at 4.5k... I cried trying to make sense of this because of the timeline of events and had to resign myself to the conclusion that Mac and Swk’s age discrepancy is because Mac has been dead for 500 years... another party of why i cried was their pseudo-canonical pokemon teams but that’s an issue for another day. Even though I do already have a pokemon au plotline mostly figured out /srs)
But back on topic, Macaque has been gone for 500 years and the world has progressed a long way... long enough to start having and making noisy machines that nip at the bud of any ideas Mac had involving living among humans
So he turns his attention below the earth... to below where the key calls him to go... calls him to her tomb. Except he doesn’t go that far.
Macaque just finds himself a nice, secluded, and well hidden cave and makes THAT his home that he stays in—the racket of humanity dulled by the distance and many meters of solid stone and earth between his sensitive ears and them, but not dulled enough that he is once again cemented in the silence of death
It’s a pretty nice existence, Macaque slowly leaving his demon den and interacting with the growing city above him and trying to figure out where to carve his place into the world (he’s always been the kings shadow, the demon being the one to give the wandering demon a home and purpose, a duty and direction in life)
(And now, he can see what LBD is doing—she’s trying to slot herself into that space, the sun that brought light to his world. But what she is, is a poor imitation and too late—macaque won’t fall into that type of dynamic again, not if he can avoid it. What he knows he DOESN’T need is another Sun Wukong in his life—not another sun, not another demon that takes his life and makes it have meaning)
(He doesn’t need someone else to give his life meaning, he’s determined with his second chance at life to give BE the one that gives HIS life meaning (even as the key snarls at him that his new life isn’t his to own, not his to command, that there is no such thing as do-overs, that he HAD his life to command and he gave it to someone else and now he is selfishly taking the life he got given for himself than using it for its intended purpose) )
The place Macaque eventually carves into the world for himself... is as a passive demon just hibernating in his shadows and watching (and ignoring the key’s whispers), after all... he doesn’t have anything against humanity (only against ONE human but he doesn’t matter, NEITHER of them matter, he shouldn’t care and thus he doesn’t care)... and anyways, his days of being a Warrior are behind him... with humanity (over the course of long centuries) being able to contest demons for territory and demons shrinking away into the shadows and crevasses of the world
Macaque watches the remains of the ancient world he belongs to melt away... and he doesn’t cling to that ancient world, keeping an open mind and changing with the city that has gained the name of Megapolis—invests into his interests and passions that before he’d never given much time to
Man goes full teacher and theatre volunteer mode—he didn’t spend his hibernation doing nothing, he just hoarded weapons and tools and decided to spend his time mastering them because when you get to live forever, you need something to keep busy that’s not your own mind—so he teaches basic things like self-defense to humans and other demons alike, but has a large array of other classes he could do if asked to
(He doesn’t mess with the movie or show industry—partly because he’s really passionate about the traditional arts, also partly because he is NOT going to let himself get cast as his ex even if he would be able to do the best imitation of him) ((the thought of impersonating wukong... it brings him sour memories. And also he has no interest in making his presence known to the world))
The only people that need to know he exists is the people that watch his shows and take his classes. Period. No one else.
By this point, he’s fully moved out of his little cave and among humans—he sometimes glamours himself, sometimes he doesn’t, but he is always mindful to keep his magical presence small—you wouldn’t really find him if you weren’t looking for him specifically
This means that no, neither Princess Iron Fan or Red Son find Macaque, man is mingled into the sauce of humans and demons in Megapolis and keeping his presence small enough that he pops up on the demon magic radar as another small fry and not a demon in the same power class as Sun Wukong
The “The Moon Will Sing” inspiration for a lot of this is the lyrics “I could have been anyone, Anyone else / Before you made the choice for me”—a lot of this au could be figured out from listening to the song and imagining it as Macaque dialogue
Am I making a reflection on the observation that Macaque has made his life just REVOLVE around Sun Wukong like how the Moon revolves the Earth? Yes.
And i say that this mess of a man gets to find his own life purpose and find what HE wants to do and not have SWK and what he will think or feel about those choices as a factor
(He really could’ve been anything, since he has a talent for story telling and theatre, can be an effective teacher, and his a powerful demon in his own right)
(And yet... when his wild heroic king wanted someone he could battle side by side with, someone he would be unstoppable with... that is what Macaque became, Macaque made himself the Warrior to his king’s Hero)
Oh and the way that Macaque is holding LBD hostage is that he has made her tomb’s key a necklace and wears it all the time so even her thrall, The Mayor, is actually unable to get a hold of the key to try to give it to someone else—and she knows the shadow demon included her voice in the muffling seal he made for his ears to survive living in the big city that is Megapolis so she can’t even yell or threaten him to give the key to her thrall
She is being held hostage and the Mayor can’t do anything about it
(Yes, i do believe that in Season 2’s Shadow Play, a good reason for how The Mayor was able to overtake Macaque was because LBD was free and thus he had access to her full well of magic to power himself up (and as we know, LBD is powerful enough to possess Sun Wukong and the Mayor himself was able to go toe-to-toe with SWK... while his Lady is free from her tomb) )
(—But here LBD is still caged up, so Mayor has a lot less of her magic to work with, and Macaque has been allowed back into tip-top shape and could Punt the Mayor (since we never do see the Mayor fight SWK while his Lady was still in her box so... free headcanon real estate) so no—Macaque is not letting his hostage go, she is staying right where she is and she can’t do a thing about it) (yet)

You ever just think about...
A world (Lego Monkie Kid world) where Macaque isn’t unhinged about Wukong?
And he just... copes with the break up (his murder) with denial and pretending swk doesn’t exist?
That he’s fine and didn’t need him anyways and he’s okay and—
Probably not because you’re not a maniac like I am /lh
I elaborate after the read more <3
This is the prelude to the newest au my no-impulse-control brain has cooked up—entirely because I listened to The Crane Wives too much for too long and have too much thinking time-
An AU i made for 100% self indulgent reasons that were to draw a happy, teacher macaque in my sketchbook who is not a bundle of angst
(But it became a trojan horse, there’s always angst.)
The biggest change however is what Macaque decided to do after he unearthed himself from his shallow grave—the key to Lady Bone Demon’s tomb in his hand, the slightly frayed but well-loved scarf cape he died in bundled around him and showing its age...
He sits there and thinks as he bears two items corresponding to two major people—the scarf of the demon who’d felt like a storm (but it wasn’t a bad storm, after all... Macaque himself was born of a violent storm, it’s only natural he’d call someone a storm and mean it as a good thing) and his everything yet is the reason he was 6 feet under
And the key of the demon that brought him back to the world of the living... though no demon that bears a celestial face as part of their disguise is likely to be good news
In any other world, the shadow demon would’ve dropped the celestial-faced demon’s key to the dirt and pursued the celestial-monkie demon—
But not in this one, where he opts against vengeance or anger...
Against giving the monkie king the satisfaction that his shadow still chases after him
The shadow monkey fully rises from his grave and unwinds the once-beloved gift from himself and drops it back into his former grave.
A metaphor, he thinks it, a very fitting one (he’s a theatre kid, of course everything he does he adds perceived symbolism to):
This shallow hole once the grave of the Six-Eared Macaque, now just a grave for everything he ever felt about the Monkey King... any love, friendship, or kinship between them dying with himself but unlike Macaque, those feelings aren’t leaving the Underworld.
A new life with a new direction... the Key his object to keep close and reminder of who he’s here for
(And with it, he goes to where it urges him to go... a budding town that grows bigger by the year)
