I truly miss this era because Hima really did a great job with this fighting and scheming plot while still keeping the humour and satirical atmosphere (it is actually his trademark and makes a lot of people like me get into Hetalia).

I am also a Frain shipper (sorry not sorry) so looking at them from this perspective other than "they're a pair of close friends and always in love" is actually more interesting and profound.

But with Hetalia becoming more and more known and leading to many mixed opinions (you all know what I am talking about), I completely understand why he and his team couldn't keep drawing these anymore.

Character analysis: Naruto vs Boruto’s forgiving natures

Naruto is a kind person. But a lot of people interpret all of his actions to being foolishly kind, when Naruto really is just a traumatized & principled character that empathizes with people based off that.

Both are traumatized & principled, but have different traumas driving their actions.

Let’s examine Naruto first:

Notice, Naruto does not decide to be understanding until he draws a connection between himself and his opponent being victims of child abuse. Naruto never tried to empathize with Orochimaru, Danzo or Madara, nor had much of a negative reaction to their demise at all. Naruto also knew all 3 of them had repeatedly committed the worst sin- abused children. His biggest trauma.

Naruto hasn’t been advocating for people to escape consequences, he wanted people to atone because he understood that they were traumatized as children & never got the guidance that saved Naruto from going down their exact path. He wasn’t rly being gullible (he had nothing to lose by the time he tried talk-no-jutsu lol), kind or even forgiving- he decided no matter how difficult to stick to his principles he learned from Jiraiya. To try to stop the cycle of hatred by having people atone rather than to punish them through revenge.

Naruto’s biggest flaw though, is that he is overly blinded by his abandonment trauma- he feels he has to “save” people who went through child abuse like he did. He projects too much of his own feelings onto them- when they are their own people who won’t necessarily turn around as easily as Naruto did- which is why he lost his arm to sasuke who wouldn’t relent until beaten into submission. & (temporarily) lost his life to kawaki.

In psych terms, Naruto is trying to reinforce to himself that he was always worthy of being saved, which is what drives him to go as far as he does. It’s not really his kindness, or passion but his trauma is the way Naruto deeply connects to others.

Episode 10 of boruto NNG. This convo is not in the manga but it’s clear from the manga as well that this is how Naruto feels:

This is why Naruto struggled so much to connect with Boruto. Boruto wasn’t an abused child- thats why it seemed Naruto didn’t “care” about Boruto and Himawari as much as Kawaki. His bio kids were the first people very close to him without significant trauma for him to build a relationship on. Hima was still pretty young, & not as outspoken as boruto, so we didnt see that dynamic as much with her.

Boruto is still early in his story & has a lot more to learn. So this is as of chapter 14 of TBV.

Boruto’s current analysis:

Boruto has spent his whole life building healthy connections unlike Naruto, yet seems to have the same desire to “save” even the most “irredeemable” people. There are 2 reasons why.

Reason 1, For Boruto he is able to forgive kawaki because he understands that he’s not in a position to judge him. Boruto recognizes that he is a threat because of momoshiki, and blames & hates himself for everyone being endangered, not kawaki who is actually protecting them in his own twisted way. & now, feeling the pain of abandonment, he also empathizes with kawaki, thus forgiving him. This is how BORUTO sees it right now.

He’s also trying to make the right choices he knows ADULT Naruto would make, but adult Naruto has confronted his self hatred & knows not to take or blame everything on himself. Boruto hasn’t learned that yet, he’s willing to accept help when it’s dire, but still believes the overall burden is his alone. He has also been mainly taught by Sasuke, who still hasn’t overcome his own self hatred as much as Naruto has & desire to handle everything alone.

*boruto has actually been struggling with self hatred since getting caught cheating, that’s why he irrationally hated all ninja tech- it’s from the shame of being exposed. Self hatred is a huge underlying part of his character I could expand on later; I’m focusing on this comparison to Naruto here.

Boruto is blinded by his self hatred in the same way Naruto is blinded by his abandonment trauma. That’s why some of their actions seem so irrational, they are fueled by trauma. & These blind spots are where they both make their most costly mistakes.

That’s why he naively defied Koji’s order to escape and instead released code. He knows from Naruto he can’t do everything alone, but he lacks the wisdom to understand when/how to apply it. He should’ve relied on Koji’s advice rather than trying to plan on his own which led to a huge mistake. Code is still loose.

Reason 2, Boruto’s will is to be shadow hokage. To bear burdens for the sake of the village and people he loves. Part of bearing the burden is swallowing your pride for the greater good, which he learned from Sasuke. He’s not being kind or forgiving by saving Code. He wanted to kill the shinju ASAP before they could evolve further and needed his help.

Same with asking to train Kawaki. Kawaki’s fate is tied to both Naruto/Hinata, the EARTH & boruto’s fates. Outside of any emotional reasons, he literally cannot afford to let Kawaki die + kawaki’s unique abilities (shrinking claw marks particularly) are instrumental in defeating the shinju. & Especially now that the shinju are growing in number and in other villages, boruto cannot always be there to protect kawaki. Kawaki needs to get stronger fast for the sake of the planet.

I’m interested in the larger convo between boruto and kawaki and training him, but we’ll have to see once chapter 15 officially drops.

How about Kenya?

Don't worry guys I haven't forgotten about this its been in the back of my head the entire time </3 i decided to draw them in wwii uniforms this time for a change of pace, but maybe ill draw them in their traditional clothes some other time

first off, kenya!!! shes actually already a canon character but shes barely in hetalia. forever cursed to be a gakuen hetalia chibi head... sigh...

even though nothing hints to this in her appearance in gakuen hetalia, i think she would have a kind of tomboyish and energetic personality! like the girl-next-door type! she's also the first person to ask seychelles a question in the gakuen hetalia demo, which makes me think shes a huge extrovert.

sometimes i wonder if she was part of the group of countries who laughed at seychelles' coat of arms. in my heart, i wanna believe she didnt... but um she probably did. bruh who knows the demo is over a decade old now himas not gonna confirm it. please come back to hetalia, kenya. i need you.

next is malta! his appearance is a little scuffed here because he was going through it in wwii, but he's doing way better in present day

obviously he was influenced by italy so he naturally gets an italian curl. i like to think that he looked up to romano when he was younger and started subconciously taking after him. i was debating whether i should give him thick eyebrows or not, but i think france's occupation cancels it out even if it was a really short time.

in present day i think he cares a lot about his architecture and tourism. i think he'd also be a bit of a womanizer due to the italies' influence on him but he definitely has a lot more decency compared to them. or maybe hes just toos hy to talk to them, that would be cute lol

last is morocco! she was kind of fun to design and i was thinking about her personality throughout while drawing her. i like to think that she is pretty intelligent and is capable of doing a lot of stuff... but she'd rather go smoke weed and have parties, so she feigns ignorance to get out of her responsibilities. on top of that, because of france, she is a huge romantic and can make people swoon for her with just one word

i have no idea if hima would ever make a character like this since his girl characters mostly appeal to cuteness rather than uhh sultriness? but i think moroccos laziness has a cute appeal if you squint hard enough. if he does make a girl character like this i think she'd be some sort of bait and switch or something

i decided to redraw mexico because i dont think i did mexico justice having his back away from the camera. come to think of it maybe i should have drawn him in the mexican revolution uniform but there was already a pattern of wwii going on anyways...

uzbekistan is my favorite design from this series, which is why i decided to draw him again. tbh i think his first appearance didnt seem to come across as sandcat-like, so i decided to change his eyes a little bit, but overall he stayed the same. i wanted to change his pupils to dots, like germany, but it made him look too different

Hetalia Gangsta AU

{District 5 - Knights Templar}

Sooo, I may haven't read the AU properly yet but I saw the art and the strips (without translation) and wanted to include Knights Templar to the fun because Hima won't draw him again anyways.

Here we have Gabriel de Payns; Earl of the long gone district 5, richest man of the surrounding districts.

Code name: le Ciel

Currently lives in his dead family's mansion which is now part of district 33 (France), occasionally found at the mansion of the 'Hüter des Bündnisses der Treue'. (if I understood that one introduction illustration of Prussia correctly, lol)

In this universe, Gabriel has to weaponize his kindness to survive after District 5 literally got burnt down to the ground. The legacy and inheritance of his family - an ancient lineage of knights - make him a target for any person who tries to benefit from Gabriel's financial support. The Earl doesn't care a lot about the wealth he posesses since it was the very thing that led to his district's downfall. He will grant immense support to those who manage to persuade him and he will give them the money they need to fulfil their goals...as long as they align with Gabriel's own values and good deeds he also wishes for. He can be the kindest and most giving person as long as his trust isn't broken. Don't dare to betray him; he has scary dog privilege. (Gilbert)

However, this earl is an entity that barely shows himself to the public or the broad daylight. Ever since the Great Fire, one could only meet the earl once darkness falls. There were rumours that this mysterious, living source of endless gold was actually nothing more than a legend, a vampire or a ghost even that haunted people's minds, yet the results of his actions can be seen in every project that was built upon his riches. Merely the leader of the Medic District (Joan/Hospitallers), the leader of District 33 and of course the Anführer des Treuebündnisses have seen him outside of these narrow time-windows, proving that he was indeed alive and the last one of the former district that was still standing. But why did the earl have the habit of only expecting visits in the evening and nights? The rumour says it's because of his burn scars that shattered his once perfectly angelic face.

Lore of District 5 | Past:

District 5 once was a very elite and wealthy district with many families from a knightly background but the district was tattered by greed, pride, selfishness and religious fanatism. A religious sect acted in the district's underground. It once was a powerful instrument to ensure the obedience of masses and it used to be a source of income for many wealthy families of district 5, especially the one Gabriel comes from. As the son of the sect's leader he grew up very sheltered and influenced by the sect's mindset. He was supposed to follow the footsteps of his father (as a district leader and the leader of the sect) which put him under a lot of pressure, however, the older and more concious Gabriel got, the more he started questioning the morality of this cult. Gabriel himself wanted to give; to be kind. Which was also his dream for the future.

But still, the way language was weaponized within the cult to get what they wanted is still a skill and advance Gabriel uses in his current position as it does give him a non-violent power and control which is crucial if he wants to keep his current status and security. However, even though he proceeds to use the techniques he learnt as a kid, Gabriel does not share the mindset of the sect or the people he grew up with; he despises it and wants to distance himself as far as possible from what happened in the past as he saw that it was cruel.

Between the different districts were many conflicts. But the last one with district 33 with the combination of an uprising of the opressed social classes of district 5, caused the event which is known under the name "the Great Fire". District 5 got almost completely annihilated by flames. The bourgeoisie vanished, the rest of the hierarchies and systems of the district broke into pieces. As if the district never existed.

Only then, when the fire burnt down the last 'chains' that held Gabriel back in his so called 'destiny' or 'right place', he gained back the freedom he never had but wished for. And with that, the chance to change his future and a chance to help those who had been exploited by the district's underworld opened up to him.

As he was the last one of the old world that was still standing, yet the one willing to create a new and fairer world.

Oh. Okay, so, explanation on why my bt cut exists. When I finished my scene pack buddie cut for s7 (the scene pack cut is different from the one I'm making available, mostly because I cut around every single time they were in frame together, and I am cutting the scene they are not interacting directly from the watchable one and adding scene where they are talking about each other) I made these 2 posts about the buddie screentime, here and here, and someone asked me about the bt screentime in comparison, so I made the cut so I could make this graph with accurate information lol.

Then a few days ago Hima said they wanted to watch all of the bt scenes and I said I had a cut for season 7, they asked if they could have it, I added the birthday scene to it and now I have a bt cut. I did it so I could be accurate with my data lol

Hello I recently read your headcanon about Hetalia's interpretation of American Independence just being Alfred's fantasies and I am so curious about what Arthur and Alfred's relationship is in this reality where Arthur never cared and Alfred is totally aware of that - is Arthur still in love with Alfred? Would Alfred trust those feelings? I am in AGONY

Hi! good questions! And this gets a little long so it gets a "read more" I implore you to please read it very carefully because, for better or worse, I've been developing these thoughts since 2009 and I can only try to summarize them here.

So my headcanon is that my headcanon IS canon but from the perspective of "what actually happened". All we really ever see about the American War for Independence is very distinctly ONLY Alfred's point of view in the storage closet strips/arc. We never really see Arthur's point of view, nor anyone else's (to my knowledge. I've been around so long it's possible I've missed something >.> LOL)

The problem with that is the way this period in history is taught in American public schools is basically all propaganda, which is something I actually learned because of Hetalia and it was very eye opening for me. A lot of people who didn't like usukus would sneeringly say that Great Britain didn't even care about the 13 colonies, that they weren't even that important, etc etc. (I've mentioned this a few times on my blog, I'll see if can dig any of them up at some point LOL) So I started digging into it and they were... somewhat correct. The colonies that would eventually form the US were not the most important nor most financially lucrative for Britain and Parliament had to oppose the rebels *mainly* to prove to the other colonies that rebellions would not go unopposed.

And the problem with all THAT is that Hima seems to have only ever absorbed that propaganda. What happens in the storage closet arc is so out of line with what actually happened IRL that I like to speculate that this story is what America tells himself.

This follows from my headcanon that America has been in love with England (in some form) since the very beginning of his existence. But England didn't see him that way at all. He loved America as a little child in a kind of selfish way that he knew America was always across the sea, always happy to see him when no one else was. IMO, part of America's desire to become independent was to show England that he was grown up, that he wasn't a kid anymore, that he could be England's partner/lover, but England was still fixated on this idea of the smiling sunshine little boy across the sea and this blinded him to what was really going on.

Side note: I have a whole bunch of adjacent headcanons that England felt so betrayed by the America's rebellion because he *thought* he gave America the world, gave him protection and care, things that he himself did not have as a child and so America was being horrendously ungrateful. And I also have some other relevant headcanons about how America is more like the Eve to England's Adam, which I also think is more in line with actual history: England tore out a piece of himself and flung it across the ocean where it grew into his own soulmate. I have so many posts about this because I think it's so deeply romantic and I love it, but I can't seem to find rn I'm sorry T_T...

Okay continuing on... so my theory is that what we see in the Hetalia canon aka the storage closet stuff is America's fantasy, mainly in a situation where he still believes his love is unrequited. He wanted England's attention so badly, but the reality is that part of the reason Britain lost the war IRL is because their resources/military were stretched waaaaay too thin. They didn't have the troops available to successfully oppose the rebels and Parliament deemed that other conflicts/locations were more worth committing to, mainly for financial reasons. So England wouldn't have been there, his priorities would have been somewhere else, it's not that he didn't care. I also think that whatever Parliament thought, England, as in Arthur, cared a LOT and he was so angry and hurt that he didn't want to face Alfred and that Alfred's betrayal (in his mind) is part of what drove him into high gear as far as imperialism is concerned: "Fine, if no one will love me, then they'll all fear me"

America wanted England to be there at the end of the revolution, to show that he did care, that America mattered to him, that it mattered to him that America was leaving, so he came up with this fantasy (which is actually kind of in line with how the founding of the US became so mythologized, IMO), but in my headcanon, what we see in the actual canon exists only in his mind, the rest of actual canon is still the same, as in, England and America reconciled and became good friends during and after WWII and that's when their relationship gets really repaired... America feels more like he's actually grown up and England can finally consider "forgiving" him for the perceived ungratefulness and begin to see him as an adult.

As to your question about how this headcanon changes things for England... it doesn't. England has his own perception of what happened in his mind and perhaps it isn't deliberately a fantasy, perhaps it is more in line with the "reality" of what happened, but in my headcanon, it changes nothing about him and his actions in actual canon. He just doesn't see America as someone he could have romantic or sexual feelings for until that time around or after WWII because before that, he still emotionally views America as a kid even if he knows logically that America isn't anymore--he still has those lingering memories from long ago, but seeing America during WWII is a real shock to his system like... oh, oh shit he's hot what the fuck! meanwhile America has been pining for England since around the 1740's LOL. England doesn't have to been in love with America all along to be in love with him now.

In my version, I think once America and England actually get together, America can maybe let go of his fantasy version of the revolution. It's not that England never cared, it's that America saw their relationship one way and England saw it another way and those ways were fundamentaly incompatible.

The truth, irl, is that Great Britain/England is so old that of course the American War for Independence is but a tiny blip in its history, but it's the literal birth of the United States so of course it matters way more to us and this is partly my way of accounting for the discrepancy and for fitting in how the ACTUAL history makes for much more interesting usukus ideas and a deeper connection between them so it's actually the opposite: it's not that England isn't in love with America, it's that he has no idea he's in love with America and just how deep in his heart that love is. America is very aware of it and is just trying to get England to see it, but in the meantime, his heart hurts that he wasn't given the consideration he thinks was more befitting their relationship and the "fantasy" is his way of soothing himself.

so see the whole motivation behind shipping them is that rei is the only other voicebank to have no actual voice provider besides defoko. they're both completely machine synthesized w/o human samples, and defoko's flavor text also says she's a bot so there's so much fuel arnd it lol (esp. in regards to them being robots). personally for me too the idea that it took the only other provider-less vsynth 11 years to come out after u is so. rei having come out in 2019 and utau itself being out since 2008. they've got a jaded senpai-rabid kouhai thing going for me as a result, amongst other things. u can extrapolate a lot of fun details from actual community meta like this

other than that your best friend is fanwork and songs! i'm a huge fan of sho (FRAYLOVEBOT)'s few pieces of work for them and it rlly informed my view. quick search of レイウタ on twt will also net some interesting stuff. there's also the songs kikaijima and satsurikukyo that got mildly popular (there's a translation for the first song). theyre the basis for a lot of reidefo work... but ur imagination is ur limit really. most of the meat is on twitter unfortunately but i'll try my damnednest to reblog some stuff here too

yesss i live for veneziano having more depth to him. he's genuinely a happy, cheerful person to be around but he definitely looks out for his own interests first. he just gets away with being vain because hes also charming and adorable. i mean this guy will ditch his own besties and make new alliances if it benefits him. normally hes a great friend to have, but when he sees the water start coming in, hes jumping ship. i also think something underexplored with his character is how he can be friendly with pretty much everyone. imagine you have a good friend you think might be a bit useless but makes up for it by being so loveable... and then you see him acting the same he does with you but with your sworn enemies. thats germanys pov lol. i think hes someone who can fit in anywhere if he wants to.

anon i love your take on veneziano (or how i call him, felice)!! it is exactly how i like to think of him relating to other nations, especially since he's one of the most influential nations in the EU nowadays.

you see, i don't really like how hima portrayed his personality. the stereotype for northern italians is almost the opposite of his characterization in canon (less passionate and more hardworking), so i tried to find a middle ground in how he acts and behaves around others while not completely erasing his actual personality. and you nailed it!

i think felice is a very hard worker and cares deeply about his country, and that requires that he's also going to be plenty charismatic. you will always see him smile and present himself perfectly in any formal meeting, referring to others with nothing but politeness added with his natural cheerfulness. contrary to romano, felice is very open to change and likes to have as many ties as possible with other "influential" nations of the Union. it benefits him in the end so why not?

but here's the catch. like you said, he's plenty vain and "nation focused", so if he finds another situation he thinks is going to benefit, he's sure as hell going to pursue it. and in the meanwhile, it's seems he cares little of how this decision might affect the people that surround him. it almost seems he puts this super friendly persona just for his own benefit. almost.

this, combined to the fact that romano has issues relating to others cause of trauma a difficult personality as well, makes their relationship tremendously complicated (something that I would love to talk about in another post). there have been instances during history where feli wronged quite harshly his older brother, making his vanity show in full strength.

so I'm happy to know that people don't see him as this dumb baby that doesn't know how to behave lol. north italy can be an extremely interesting character if you look at his history, old and modern alike. he can be both extremely nice and a complete asshole at the same time, so don't underestimate him! he was, one time, the Republic of Venice after all...
