Shauna projects her self-hatred into Jackie and continues to do so as an adult with the jackierabbit.

Oh my GOD the RABBITS man!!

Throughout season 1, Jackie is constantly associated with rabbits. Like how Van and Tai have wolves, Nat has the moose, Lottie has deer, so on and so forth. Rabbits are meant to represent Jackie. And the fact that one of the first things we see adult Shauna do is butcher a rabbit, in her kitchen full of rabbit paraphernalia?? Good GOD man!!!! She's literally in a cycle of killing and eating Jackie over and over again. On purpose!!

Also something something hearing Jackie's parents say that rabbits were her all time favorite animal and then it immediately cutting to a scene of her talking about how she doesn't like rabbits. Something something everyone having a preconceived notion of her and none of it being true. Something something nobody, not even Shauna, knowing the real Jackie because nobody bothered to.

I'd argue that Shauna projects a lot of things onto Jackie. My take is that she didn't know how to process and deal with her feelings for Jackie, so she resented her for it. She accused Jackie of controlling every aspect of her life, and yet we see Jackie ask Shauna multiple times what's wrong, only for Shauna to lie straight to her face. Idk maybe it's just because I've been in Jackie's position, but I don't think it's very fair to accuse someone of controlling your life if you never tell them what issues you have and lie when they ask you what's wrong.
