Accidents 14
Part 1  Part 2  Part 3  Part 4  Part 5  Part 6  Part 7  Part 8  Part 9  Part 10   Part 11  Part 12   Part 13
The longer the battle went, the worse Louisa felt, but she kept it hidden from the dwarves as much as she could, she didn't want them to worry more than what they already were.
Dwalin had disappeared some time ago, but Louisa knew that he needed to be away, that listening to the battle beyond the wall was near torture to him.
Louisa flinched a little, the pain echoing through her and making her stand, agitated. She had never thought that her magic could do this, could overwhelm her so that she would feel inflections of every blow, feel the murmurs of every life stopped.
Every step felt heavy, felt like she was going to collapse under the weight of it all. There was nothing she could do and before she realised it, she was crying.
The others didn't know what to do about it, as she waved any of them off that tried to offer comfort, but it seemed too short a time that her legs gave out.
Louisa expected to hit the floor, to not be able to get back up, but a pair of hands caught her and clarity flooded her.
Clarity filled with sorrow, regret and care.
With shining eyes, she looked almost in disbelief at Thorin, making him give a small smile, his eyes clear.
"Thorin." She gasped, knowing that he had pulled himself out, she threw her arms around him, lettting the tears come as he held her close.
"Louisa," He said quietly and then placed his hand in hers. "Come with me."
Louisa let herself be led away, hardly paying attention to the worried glances behind her, her focus moving entirely to Thorin, which helped her come back to herself.
"Thorin," Her voice croaked, her hand squeezing his. "What-what happened?"
"I broke free." He said softly. "And I am so sorry Louisa."
This brought on new tears. "It wasn't you. You weren't well."
"It does not excuse me." He said. "Especially...especially to you."
She stopped, making him stop too. "Thorin, you cannot go out there blaming yourself like this, I will not let you."
Louisa could feel his heart breaking as he stepped back to her, holding her gaze as he cupped her cheek. "Gimlelul..."
"Thorin," Her voice went quiet, unsure, for once, being unsure of whay was going through him. "Talk to me. Please."
"I can't..." Thorin sighs, placing his other hand on her cheek before resting his forehead against hers and Louisa shudders, the emotion so clear that she doesn't know how to respond.
Louisa presses her hands on his. "Why?"
"Because it would kill me." He said, brushing her tears away. "With what I have to do, it would kill me."
"Thorin-"
He cuts her off, pressing his lips to hers, Louisa gasping a little at the sudden rush of emotions and feeling, before her eyes flutter closed and she gives herself over to it.
For a long moment, it becomes just the two of them, the world around them drowned out, Louisa holding onto Thorin tightly, keeping herself as grounded as she could, but the battle vanished from her mind, warmth filling her,
Thorin gives a low groan, backing her into a door in the hallway that they were in, dominating the kiss more intensely as he held her tightly.
Louisa whimpered and Thorin broke away, resting against her forehead again as they both took a moment to breath.
"Louisa..." Thorin's voice was low as she met his gaze again, his eyes dark and hooded as his thumb gently traced her lip. "I love you."
Her breath caught and for a moment, she's not sure how to react, but once her thoughts catch up, she doesn't get a chance.
Thorin opened the door behind her and she stumbled back, confused and staring at him, but one look at him told her what he was doing.
"I'm sorry." His voice broke as he closed the door and she heard the lock click.
"No!" Louisa hit the door, trying the handle quickly. "Thorin don't!" But Thorin doesn't respond even though she knows he is there, she can feel his indecision. "Thorin, please, please don't leave me here. Let me come with you."
She hears him give a shuddering breath, feels his determination overwhelm everything else, and then feels him move away.
Her cries through the door follow Thorin down the hallway and he had to hurriedly wipe the tears away from his eyes, determined not to let it show to others as he returns to them. They all took one look and knew what he had done, and none of them commented, glad that Louisa was at least out of the way, that she wouldn't come to harm.
Louisa could feel the charge into battle, felt the resolve of the dwarves change as Thorin and the rest joined them, and even before her voice went hoarse from shouting, she lost track of them in amongst everyone else. She paced, distressed, the pain coming through so much clearer now as she thought of every possible solution she could think of.
She felt confused, unsure and her chest felt tight as fear threatened to overwhelm her, occasionally glaring at the door hoping it would magically open.
She froze. "Oh you idiot!"
Barely thinking, Louisa built up her magic and blasted it at the door, which splintered into thousands of pieces and Louisa stepped out.
She was breathing hard now, magic sparking at her fingertips, it was anxious, bordering on uncontrolled, but she wasn't in a mood to currently care, taking off as fast she could down the hall, barely registering a bad feeling that was growing within her chest again.
Louisa almost faltered as she comes out to the battlefield, all the death and pain surrounding her, making her eyes water, but she pushes it away and goes out.
It took the dwarves on the battlefield a little while to realise what was causing orcs to both fly through the air and to flee across the field in terror. Bofur was first to see Louisa though, a light surrounding her that blades couldn't seem to penetrate, her eyes burning with fury, magic blasting from her hands.
The company were quick to join her side.
"Louisa, what are you-"
"Where is Thorin?" She asked loudly, cutting Bofur off. "And Fili, Kili and Dwalin?"
The dwarves share looks.
"Ravenhill." Gloin said quietly. "But trust us lass, you don't won't to go up there."
"I-" Louisa staggered, clutching her stomach, a sharp gasp leaving her as pain that wasn't her own flared through her.
"No," She gasped, tears springing to her eyes. "No!"
Over in the ruins of Dale, Bard was fighting for his life when he felt a spot on his chest heat up, he almost thought that he'd been wounded, but after a quick check he realised that it was coming from the stone that he still had buried under his coat, which was starting to glow, the orcs around him beginning to screech.
Louisa didn't dare fight the torrent of power that rushed through her, didn't dare try to understand the flux of emotions that were causing it.
There was no stopping this.
A scream left her, a scream she couldn't hear, but the dwarves around her had enough time to dive to the ground before a wave of power flew from her, matched only by another that came from Dale.
Gandalf staggered as it hit him and his gaze is instantly drawn to the battlefield.  "Louisa, what have you  done?"
The confusion and fear and pain meant nothing to her now, Louisa walking through, nothing daring to come close, her eyes burning with a bright, white light.
Bilbo was by Thorin's side, his hand in his as Thorin struggled in the last moments of life, the final breath leaving him and Bilbo starts to weep.
His head snaps back up as he catches sight of a glow, familiar to him, but still different, his eyes going wide as he sees Louisa approaching.
Bilbo scrambles to his feet.  "Louisa, I'm sorry, there was nothing I could do!"
Louisa's expression is calm.  "Move aside Bilbo."
"Louisa, are you not-"
"Everything will be okay."  Her voice is different and Bilbo can do naught but stare as she walks past him and kneels beside Thorin.
Carefully, she brushes his hair away from his face before her attention turns to his injuries.
Firmly, one hand rests over the wound in his stomach, the other over his eyes.
"Come back Thorin," Her words were hardly spoken.  "You need to come back."
Louisa's eyes close and Bilbo has to take a step back as a white light surrounds her, Thorin quickly being engulfed too.  By now, the other dwarves and Gandalf had caught up, watching this wide eyes.
"Louisa..." Gandalf's voice was worried and quiet, but all he could do was watch.
The light seemed to grow brighter before two balls seemed to break away, moving off towards the ruins, one towards the base, the other deeper within.
Dwalin was near Fili as the ball hit him, lighting him up too and making Dwalin curse as he's forced to back away from the prince.
Tauriel was cradling Kili and tried to move away from the ball but it was too quick, maybe her cry out as Kili lit up.
Surrounding Thorin and Louisa now, there was only light, everyone cautious, knowing they could not approach.
Then, slowly, it started to fade, dimming down until it was only the hand on his chest that remained.
Thorin drew a shaky first birth, Louisa opening her eyes, the glow still within as she cupped his cheek.
His eyes opened and met hers, the blue surprised for a moment until they softened.  "Louisa..."
Louisa smiled, the light finally dying as her eyes flicker shut and she collapses next to him.

Dwalin ~ Distraction
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by @everyjourneylove
The snores of the Company prevented much sleep, but luckily, being on watch, it also helped keep you awake.  It had taken you a few times, but you eventually learnt to drown it out, which meant you could actually focus on keeping watch.
Well, almost.
The dwarves were often reluctant to let you keep watch, not because you couldn’t do it, but because you tended to let your mind wander and not actually focus.  It wasn’t than anything had happened, but more than once you’d forgotten to wake the next one up for their shift, meaning that you were exhausted the next day.
This time round, after a rough few weeks of travelling, they were all exhausted and you were the most fresh, getting sleep every night, so they relented.
You knew that you had to pay attention, and so far, you had managed, the problem was, there was only so many times that you entertain yourself with varying things before you got completely and utterly bored.
Your foot tapped and your hands fidgeted.  You weren’t sure you could take much more of this.
Standing, you move silently away from your spot, to the outskirts of camp, arms wrapping around yourself against the slight chill in the air.  You moved about as much as you dared, just trying to keep yourself occupied, but it wasn’t working.
With a sigh, you went and sat on your own, still within ear shot of camp, should anything be needed, and you could easily use the excuse of a bathroom break.
Your gaze wondered to the stars above and you felt yourself steadily relax, leaning back as you followed familiar patterns and then started to make new ones, forming the start of stories that you could see around the stars.
“You know, it's lucky that it was just me you woke up.”
You tensed and cast a worried look back at Dwalin, who was standing there, arms folded. “It's not like I did it intentionally.”
He sighs and lets his arms fall.  “No, I know, but you are away from camp intentionally.”
“I can hear perfectly fine.”  You returned your gaze to the stars, not reacting when he joined you.  “Besides, I know a few of you are light sleepers.”
“That's not really a good point lass,” Dwalin said gently.  “Someone could be hurt in the time it takes to wake everyone.”
You frown a little, but don't budge.  “I need something to keep me occupied Dwalin, I get so restless and bored just sitting there.”
“Which is what you are doing now.”
“No, no it's not.  I-“ You huff. “Look, go back to sleep. Everything is under control, I promise.”
“I think I'll stay up.”
You do face him this time.  “What's that supposed to mean?”
He raises an eyebrow.  “It means I like your company enough to join you starin’ at the stars while you're meant to be on watch.”
At that moment, you were glad it was dark, your face flushing as you cleared your throat and shuffled a little.  The relationship between you and Dwalin had always been odd, something that others didn't know whether to call a relationship or not, and ypu were pretty neither of you knew what to call it, except for when he came out with comments like that.
Dwalin was smiling.  “Something wrong Y/N?”
“Of course not,” You said quickly.  “But don't you find this boring?”
“No, I get to spend time with you, that's never boring.”  He leans back.  “Especially if you share those stories you're thinking of.”
It was your turn to smile.  “Never took you as someone to like stories so much Dwalin.”
He grunts and shifts closer to you, your shoulders touching.  “Well, let's keep it between us.  If we're caught, we're both dead.”
You nod, turning your gaze skyward once again, but this time pointing out the patterns to Dwalin and telling him whatever story came to mind.

Haldir ~ Compassion
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by @babblesoftheinsane
You listened to the noise coming from the next room, of play fighting and laughing, and you couldn’t help but smile, shaking your head a little as there was a squeal of delight.
“Oh no! They got me!”  Haldir’s voice came through the rooms in an over dramatic performance.  “Oh! The light is fading!  I can’t go on!”
“No Ada, no!”
Curious, you peaked around the corner, Haldir flat on his back, the toy sword sticking under his arm so it looked like it was through his chest, your daughter kneeling next to him, her eyes wide.
“You must keeping fighting little one.”  Haldir gasps and takes her hand as she gives a gasp.  “You cannot…let them win.”
You smiled and leaned against the doorway to watch.
Your daughter gripped the sword, going to pull it out, but again he captures her hands. “Leave it my darling, it will do no good.”
“I must save you Ada!”
“It is too late…you must…fight…”  Haldir lets his head drop and fall back, his eyes closing, leaving her with wide eyes.
She looks up to find you there, looking almost terrified.  “Nana…will Ada be okay?”
You smile. “I’m sure he’ll be perfect fine Y/D/N.”
Haldir shot you a glare as he opened one eye so she wouldn’t see, before closing it again.
“But…”
You give a small sigh and go and crouch next to her.  “Things like this do happen my darling, it is a part of life.”  You reach over and pull out the sword.  “It’s only goodbye for now,” You bend and kiss Haldir’s forehead.  “I don’t know what you are worried about.”
She looks at you confused.  “Ada is dead Nana, isn’t that worrying?”
Chuckling, you hand her the sword.  “Maybe, but you worry about that after the battle is done.  Don’t you want to avenge him first?”
She looks at the sword and with a determined nod, she gets up and charges out with a scream, Haldir chuckling through a groan as he looked at you.
“I hardly consider that an appropriate lesson Y/N.”  He said looking at you.
“Would you prefer I tell her what it’s like to actually lose someone?”  You asked, raising an eyebrow at him.  “She’s not silly Haldir, she knew you weren’t dead.”
“Well, we were playing, but you could’ve played along.”
“And she showed she cared even then.”
She comes charging through the room then, sword held out in front, but stops when she see Haldir’s eyes open.  “Ada! You are meant to be dead!  I need to avenge you.”
Haldir laughs and rests back, closing his eyes.  “I’m sorry Y/DN, is this better?”
She nods, even though he can’t see, her attention drawn to you, as you smile and press a finger to your lips before calling her over and pointing at Haldir, making her smile as she understood.
Haldir had enough time to frown a little at the silence before she jumped on him with you and began to tickle wildly, laughter filling the room again before he begged for mercy, leaving the three of you laughing, leaning on each other on the floor.
“You’re not very good at playing dead Ada.”
“Well, I’ll have to work on it then.”  He kisses the top of her head and holds you both close as he still catches his breath, the smile not leaving him.  “But I think it’s much more interesting being alive, means I can do this.”
He starts to tickle you both back, laughter and squeals echoing again before you both managed to get the upper hand back, soon leaving the fake battle well behind.

Thorin ~ Happiness
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by @babblesoftheinsane
He's never really been this bad before, nerves threatening to make him feel like he wanted to swallow his own tongue or just bolt to the hills and forget the whole affair.
“You so much as do anything of the sort Thorin, and I'll be chasing you into those hills myself with your sword in hand.”  Dis spoke next to him, making Thorin jump, not realising he'd spoken out loud.
Heat flushed Thorin’s cheeks.  “Like you would dare.”
Dis’s gaze said it all. “If you don’t relax Thorin, you are going to look like an idiot in front of everyone.”
Thorin rolled his eyes. “Always kind with words Dis.”
“I’m only blunt with you because I need to be.”  She shakes her head and mutters something about him being daft.
Thorin casts her a glare. “Don’t you have somewhere else to be?”
He doesn’t miss the smirk that threatens to cross Dis’s lips.  “Chasing up my sons, no doubt, but this is far more amusing.”
“Dis…”  Thorin growls, making her laugh.
“It’s not dangerous.” She said lightly, moving past him to leave the room.  “You aren’t going into battle today, and if I were you, I’d keep that tongue too, it can be rather useful.”
She dashes out before it sinks in as to what she was suggesting, making Thorin curse after her, her laughter floating back.
Thorin, still muttering under his breath, walks to his mirror, sighing at the slight redness of his cheeks still, before looking down at himself, the ceremonial armour fitting snugly.  He tugs it a little, trying to get more comfortable, but he knew that nothing was going to work, he was just going to have to face that fact.
With time still to spare, Thorin did the only thing that he could think of doing and started pacing, waiting for someone to come and get him.
“You weren’t even this much of a mess going up against Azog.”
Thorin jumped, facing Dwalin, who was leaning against the doorway, arms folded, grinning at him.
“And I don’t think I’ve ever seen you dressed so neatly.”  Thorin grunts, Dwalin’s armour almost looking out of place on him.
Dwalin snorts, still grinning.  “Come on your majesty, let’s put you out of your misery.”
“All of you have no sympathy at all.”  Thorin growls, storming past him, making Dwalin chuckle.
“Trust me Thorin, you don’t need any sympathy for this,” Dwalin gives him a little shove as Thorin’s step faltered a little.  “She’s not going anywhere, I promise.”
Thorin swallows and just nods, letting himself be lead, but suddenly not having the nerve to speak. Dwalin pats his shoulder, giving a silent chuckle and shaking his head.
The noise reached Thorin first, all the voices and music, and had Dwalin not had a hold of him, Thorin had little doubt he would’ve taken himself up on his earlier thought.
The cheers came next as Thorin walked into the hall, making him clear his throat and draw in a deep breath, Dwalin smiling.
“You’ll be fine Thorin.” He said quietly to him, winking over Thorin’s shoulder at Dis who were standing with Fili and Kili, all of them stifling giggles.
Thorin tried his best not to look half terrified as he stepped forward, refraining from fiddling more with the armour, and it almost felt like too short of time before a silence fell and he swore that his heart stopped, panic crossing his expression for a split second.
Then he saw you.
The smile that Thorin gave was only meant for you, one that you returned as you walked towards him.  It took only a moment before the tears started, taking Thorin’s hands in yours, your own eyes shining as you give a small laugh at him, reaching up to wipe a tear from his cheek.
Thorin beams at you, no longer caring for the cheering crowd which had started again.  He knew that he had nothing to worry about.

Dwalin ~ Teasing
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by @babblesoftheinsane for @everyjourneylove
Sweat kissed your brow as you bustled around the kitchen, having no time to think about what you were actually doing, there was still much to prepare after all, but it didn’t stop you noticing a certain dwarf sneaking in behind you.
“Touch those cookies and an empty jar won’t be the only thing you’re left with.”  You said, making Dwalin freeze.
Dwalin stared at your back, his hand frozen over the jar full of cookies that were sitting on the bench.
“I mean it Dwalin,” You said, still not turning around, busying yourself over a pot. “Those cookies are not meant to be eaten yet.”
He smirks. “I wouldn’t even think about it galthûna.  I’m only in here to help.”
“Then get helping.”  You point at another pot.  “Start stirring.”
“Oh, I can start stirring, but what’s going to be in it for me?”
You squealed as Dwalin’s armed wrapped around you, making you laugh as he kisses your neck.  “Dwalin! Now is hardly the time.”
“Why not?” He growled.  “You won’t let me have a cookie otherwise.”
You laugh again, turning in his arms to push him away, jabbing him playfully in the chest.  “Don’t you use that on me Dwalin, that’s absurd.”
His grin widens.  “Is it? Seems to be the only snack we have afterwards.”
You threaten him with a wooden spoon this time.  “Dwalin, I’m warning you, we are meant to be getting ready and I still have lots to do.”
Dwalin laughs, grabbing the spoon off you and heading for the pot you’d originally pointed to.  “I’m only stirring Y/N, you know, what you asked me to do.”
Now with his back to you, you rolled your eyes, still smiling.  “Then you best get to it Dwalin, or there will be no cookies.”
“Eh?” Dwalin turns, finding you taking a cookie out of the jar.  “Oi!”
You take a bite, looking innocent.  “What? The cook gets to eat.”
“And the assistant can’t?”
“No,” Your grin widens.  “He’s been slack all day, not helping his wife cook for the celebration.”
Dwalin raises an eyebrow.  “I’ve been setting up outside.”
“Mmhmm,” You take another bite, shrugging.  “So?”
He stalks forward, the spoon now pointing at you.  “You are asking for trouble galthûna.”
You smile up at him.  “Tell you what, you put on my apron and finish the cooking while I go and freshen up, then I just might let you have one.”
Dwalin’s gaze moves from you to your apron to the cookie jar sitting just out of reach before returning back to you.  “You’re serious?”
“Is there a problem Dwalin?”  You smile sweetly.
“You’re really going to make me do it to get a cookie?”
“I’m not going to make you do anything.”  You said lightly, taking off your apron and then grabbing the cookie jar.  “But don’t let the food burn dear, I’d hate to have to start again.”
Dwalin stared after you as you, the cookie jar under your arm.  He sighs, shaking his head as he grabs your apron, hearing you laugh down the hall, bringing a smile to his lips.
What could he say?  You and your cookies were worth it.

Thranduil ~ Awe
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by @fentah
Thranduil's fingers drummed on the arm of his throne, his head resting on his other hand. Anyone who knew him, knew that look.
He was bored.
It wasn't unusual, but today it looked like it was frustrating him.
You ducked into throne room, seeing his expression, smiling, and ducking back out.
Moments later, Thranduil was startled as you threw his sword up at him and he caught it, holding your own.
“Are you going to join me or just sit there staring?”  You asked, turning from him and looking back.
“It would be inappropriate.”  He said.
“And you are bored.  Take your pick.”  You left, knowing he would follow.
Thranduil followed you out into a small clearing and he paused, looking around.
“Is my King stunned to silence?”  You asked, smiling.
“I know every corner of my kingdom,” He said quietly.  “And yet I have never seen this before.”
“Then you clearly don't know every corner.”  You said.  “This is my little retreat, so feel honoured.”
Thranduil looked at you.  “How have you been keeping this secret?”
“I'm talented.”
“Y/N-“
“Thranduil, I got you out here so you didn't look so miserable on that throne. So for old times sake,” You draw your sword.  “Shall we?”
He tilts his head.  “You wish to game?  Here?”
You smirked.  “This isn't a game.  At least not one I intend to lose.”
Thranduil took a moment before a slow smile crossed his lips and he drew his sword. “Really?  You do seem to be more intent on talking than actually fighting.”
With a quickness that you were both used to, blades clashed quickly.  You were used to this dance, even after all these years, and you fell into an easy step, steel against steel.
You both took a moment.
“Slowing down?”
“Never on your life.”
The fight got faster, but still blades never came anywhere near skin, both your forms impeccable, never letting up.
Then both of you tried to get the upper hand at the same time and ended up in a heap on the ground.
It took a moment before laughter erupted from the both of you as you tried to get free of each other.
Thranduil looked at you with a spark in his eye.  “Good to see you haven't stopped learning.”
You smiled, leaning on your knees to get your breath back.  “Good to see you haven't forgotten everything I taught you.”
He grinned and chuckled a little.  “You always were a good teacher.”
A comfortable silence fell, the two of you just enjoying the clearing, enjoying the peace and enjoying the company of each other.
“It has been a while since we have done this.”  He said quietly.
“It has.” You agreed.  “Feels like a lifetime.”
Thranduil sighs and lies back.  “Thank you for this Y/N.”
You joined him, resting close to stare at the canopy of leaves above.  “It is never a problem.  You know that.”
When he doesn't respond, you glance at him, and he was looking pensively at you, breaking away after a moment.
You smile and look back at the trees above.  “We have all the time in the world Thranduil.  Just sit here and relax and breathe.”
“And wonder how I have someone like you.”  He said quietly.
“Maybe that too.”

Bofur ~ Awe
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by Anon.
Bofur wasn’t overly sure how he felt about receiving surprises, he liked giving them, especially to you, but being on the receiving end of one was making him more than a little nervous.
You giggled, holding his hands as you led him through the house.  “Relax Bofur, have you really known me to pull a prank like this?”
“Well, no, but you’ve never lead me blindfolded anywhere either.”  He countered, his hat over his eyes as the blindfold, something you’d pulled down, surprising him in the first place.
Your second giggle was not reassuring and his hand squeezes yours.
“I promise you’ll like it.”
The path you were leading him through your home had him more than a little confused, it felt like it was too full of twists and turns and it took him a moment to realise that you were doing it intentionally.
“Y/N, what are you doing?”
“Well, I can’t have you figuring it out too quickly.”
Bofur groaned and held your hand tighter, his heart rate picking up.  “Y/N come on.”
“Don’t be a spoil sport,” You whined slightly.  “Come on Bofur, you trust me right?”
“Of course I do.”
“Good.” You stopped and squeezed his hand, the smile evident in your voice. “Because otherwise I wouldn’t have shown you this.”
Bofur lets you pull him into the room, choosing not to say anything, anticipation making him swallow hard.
“Okay,” You let go of his hand and Bofur felt momentarily alone until your hands rested on his cheeks.  “This isn’t what it looks like.  So no freaking out okay?”
You pulled his hat free from his eyes and Bofur blinked in the light to get his eyes to adjust.  He made out what was your room, usually full of all your art and craft supplies that Bofur had spent many hours just watching you making, your passion for your art clear.
But now, it was all packed away to the side, making Bofur frown.
“Y/N, what-” He turned to look at you, but instantly stopped as his gaze landed on the rest of the room, his eyes going wide, making you giggle and take his hand.
“Something you want to say Bofur?”
The room had been decorated with toys, some made by his own hand, and it was bright and colourful, almost surreal compared to what he was used to.  A mural was started on the wall, almost complete, filled with mountains and plains and stars and in front of all that was a crib.
“You’re…” Bofur wasn’t sure what to say, even as you squeezes his hand.
“Uh huh.” You confirmed, watching him as he took it all in, his wonder filled gaze turning to you.
“So I’m…”
“Going to be a father.”
Joy broke over Bofur’s face as his eyes shined with tears and he laughed, pulling you into his arms with a cheer, making you giggle as he holds you tight and swings you around.
“Oh Y/N, do you have any idea-”
“I’m sure I do.”
He kisses you hard, the smile clear on his lips before he breaks away, looking at you in complete reverence.  “How did you even manage all this?”
“Bombur and Bifur.”
“Is that why they’ve been acting so smug?”
You giggled, wrapping your arms around his neck.  “Most likely.”
Bofur knew he should say something, but in that moment he just didn’t want to, resting his head against yours with a sigh, just letting you both breathe for a moment, before looking back at the room, the awe in his gaze.  “I didn’t think I could ever be more in love with you.”
You wrap your arms around him.  “Want to help me finish it?”
He nods and kisses your head.  “Nothing would give me greater pleasure.”

The visions of battle were never easy for soldiers, the memories of those lost, of what they faced, often times, it was like being constantly trapped in a bad dream, struggling to control their emotions as those past times caught up with them.
Eomer was no exception, but his struggles were kept more private than others.  As King, he couldn’t afford to look weak, no matter the cost on his own wellbeing, but only two people knew how much he suffered behind closed doors, how much he suffered with the loss of Theoden.
As much as Eowyn adored her brother, there was little she could do to help when she was in Gondor, leaving you to try and ease his pain when it was worse.
Tonight seemed to be a particularly bad one as Eomer tossed and turned in the sheets, sweat kissing his brow as it awoke you from sleep.  You carefully manoeuvred out of bed so as not to accidently bump him, triggering his sleeping wrath, and moved to the basin to get some cool water, humming as you did so.
The gentle soft melody began to calm Eomer in his sleep, his small shouts and whimpers, turning into a groan and shuddering breathes, his eyes half opening as you walked around to his side of the bed, still humming away as you dampened a cloth.
“I was dreaming again…”  His voice was hoarse and you gave a soft smile as you sat next to him, pressing the cloth to his forehead.
“Just take it slow,” You said gently, wiping the sweat from his brow. “You’re going to be fine.”
Eomer gave a weary smile at you.  “Always the positive one.”
You returned his smile.  “Well, one of us has to be.”
He took your hand and kissed it gently.  “I am sorry Y/N.  I should’ve warned you that I was so broken.”
“Broken?” You moved closer to him, holding his hand in yours.  “My dearest Eomer, I promise, you are not broken.  Wounded perhaps, suffering after everything, but you are not broken.”
His gaze was sad, even as he kept his smile, making you press a kiss to his lips.
“You are a brilliant King my love, you have handled our people so well, have led us through those dark times, and none of us can expect any more than that.”
Eomer sighs, letting the tension ease from him as his fingers weave into your hair and pull you close, pressing your foreheads together.  “What would I do without you?”
“Probably drive your sister mad,” You smiled, moving so you could curl up against him.  “Among many other things I’m sure.”
He chuckles and pulls you close.  “I mean it Y/N.  Thank you.”
You rest your head on his chest.  “I just want you to be at peace Eomer.”
Eomer hums in agreeance.  “I am very much at peace my queen, all because of you.  I can never thank you enough for what you have given to me.”
“What I will always give you.”  You yawn. “Did you want to talk about the dream?”
He pulls the blankets around you.  “In the morning Y/N, for now I think we both need to sleep more.”
“If you are sure?”
He brings you hand to his lips again.  “Very sure.”
It didn’t take long before you were asleep again, Eomer soon joining you, a smile on his lips, neither of you stirring again that night.

Dwalin ~ Pessimism
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by @everyjourneylove
It was rare for you to get angry, after all, you were considered the tame one in the relationship, the one that kept Dwalin calm and reasonable, except today was different.
Today you were furious.
Dwalin stood looking a little guilty, staring at his foot as he tapped it on the ground, constantly glancing at you as you stormed from one thing to another, everything louder than what it should have been and it was making Dwalin flinch.
It was rare for you to get angry, but Dwalin knew you always had a good reason to be when you were.
“Are you going to stand there or are you going to help?”  You ask flatly, not looking at him.
Dwalin winces and steps closer.  “What do you need me-”
“Dwalin,” Your tone was harsh and he swallowed.  “You’ve gotten me into this, so now you are going to help get me out of this.”
“I am-”
“Then don’t you dare ask me what to do.”  You glare at him.  “Use your head and find something to do.”
Dwalin nods, moving off to start working his way through the long list of chores that had to be done, all while carefully avoiding you, although at times it was unavoidable, in which you were near silent.
Finally, after many hours, Dwalin found you cooking, your body tense and he sighs.
“Y/N…I’m sorry.”  He mumbled, making you tense.  “I thought I’d brought it up, I never expected it to be so sudden.”
“Well, it is, and now here we are.”
Dwalin watched you and moved to you as you went to wash your hands, grabbing you so that you would face him.  “Love please, talk to me.”
Your gaze was hard.  “If you talked to me, none of this would’ve happened.”
He sighs. “I know, but there’s only so many times I can say I’m sorry.  We knew that there was a chance that this would happen, even now.  It’s part of the reason I said the meeting was to be here tonight, so that I could include you in what is going on.”
“Dwalin-”
He cradles your cheeks.  “I know and I’m scared too.”
You blinked away the shining in your eyes, the anger still simmering away.  “How am I supposed to do this without you here Dwalin? How am I supposed to not fret everyday while you are gone?”
“You are stronger than you give yourself credit for,” Dwalin caresses your cheeks. “And while I’m not here, you won’t be on your own, you know that.”  He kisses you lightly.  “As for worrying, don’t you think I’ll be doing that to.”
“Then stay.”
“I would if I could, but I am sworn to Thorin’s side, you know that.”
“You are sworn to my side too Dwalin!”  You try and pull away but Dwalin holds you to him.  “And you are sworn to our unborn child!”
Dwalin pulls you in tight to him as you begin to weep, your body shaking and he rests is head a top yours.  “I always will be Y/N, but when my King calls, I must answer.”
You trembled, unable to say anymore, and Dwalin just held you, gently rocking you and trying what words he could to try and comfort you, even as some of the food started to burn.

Haldir ~ Awe
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge!
Requested by @babblesoftheinsane (Sequel to Hope ;D)
You were hurting, this much was true, but it was only a slight limp, there were plenty of soldiers that had ended up worse off after the battle, even though it was successful, even though you managed to ride the uruk-hai down and the wizard arrived, bolstering the numbers and allowing for this success.
Now was the time for recovery, for sorting through the dead and healing the wounds that had been earned.
Sighing wearily, you kept moving, a lot of your brethren around, having not made it through the battle.  You were looking for those that were still alive, that needed healing.
A groan caught your attention and you hurried over to an elf trapped under several bodies, wounded.  You helped them out and checked them over, words of comfort leaving you as you tied off the wounds that you could before calling for help, others hurrying over to move the elf to the temporary medical bay.
Sighing, you rub the ache in your leg.
“Shouldn’t you be there too meleth?”
You turned to find Haldir watching you, a small smile on his lips, looking just as tired as you felt.  “I’m alright, it’s nothing serious.”
“It could be if you are not careful,” He walks over to you and takes your hand.  “Come, let’s tend to that.”
“Haldir…”
“Other’s are helping the wounded.”  Haldir smiles warmly.  “And I think it’s the least I owe you.”
You chuckled, even as you let yourself be led, his arm moving around your waist.  “I told you I had your back.”
“Something I am very grateful for.”  He kisses your temple.  “Although I would’ve preferred that it wasn’t at the cost of your own safety.”
“So you expect me to sacrifice yours?”  You nudge him a little.  “This is a no win argument Haldir.”
Haldir chuckles.  “Only because you are impossible.”  The two of you are silent for a moment.  “Have I ever told you that I could watch you fight all day?”
You raised an eyebrow.  “You want my life threatened?”
He opens his mouth, closes it, before catching your look and smiling.  “Not want I meant Y/N.”
You grin. “Oh, I know what you meant.”
Haldir laughs and shakes his head, even as people move past the two of you and he sits you down to check your leg.  “You are ridiculous.”
“Well, you shouldn’t pay so much attention to me then, then you wouldn’t notice.”
“You really don’t want me to notice you meleth?”
“No,” You smile and lean forward to kiss him as he kneels in front of you.  “But I don’t think others appreciate us being so open about it.”
Haldir pulls you back in for another kiss.  “Well, I cannot help that you are such a wonder.  I truly would not know what I would do without you.”
“I would hate to think about it.”  You pat his cheek.  “Now, if we’re only going to talk, I’m going to-”
“Sit still and let me tend this wound,” He laughs, pushing you back down as you try and get up.  “Then we can get back to helping everyone.”
You smile, for now, the world just the two of you, and you could both relax.

Eomer ~ Terror
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by @nuvoleincielo
He didn’t want to believe what the soldiers were telling him, his heart racing as he moved through the sick and wounded.  Surely you wouldn’t have…couldn’t have…
His breath caught in his throat as he entered a small room, your form wrapped in bandages on the bed, looking pale and weak, and yet still sparing a smile to him as he stared.
“Eomer.”
Your voice was quiet, bordering on broken, and it took Eomer a moment to gather himself before walking over, sitting by your side.
“Y/N…” His voice wavered and he shut his eyes, drawing in a deep breath before looking at you, your gaze kind.  “What were you doing out there?”
You chuckled.  “Fighting, what else would I be doing?”
Eomer takes your hand, holding it tightly, feeling how cold they were.  “But why?  You were meant to stay behind.  You were meant to be with the people.”
You squeezed his hand with what strength you could.  “Eomer, we both know that I couldn’t do that.  I was as much a soldier as you are, even if I wasn’t seen as such.  My loyalty was to our people, to our home.  I couldn’t sit by and see that be threatened.”
Eomer pressed his lips to your hand.  “But at the cost of your life Y/N?  It’s seems so…so…”
“Hush,” For a moment your voice faded and Eomer’s eyes widened, making him shift forward. You drew a shuddering breath and smiled at him.  “These things happen Eomer.  It is how it is meant to be.”
He blinked furiously as he shook his head, trying to chase away the tears, his hands trembling as they still held yours.  “Hold on Y/N, you can pull through this.”
The laughter from you was soft, closing your eyes for a moment, letting your own tears falls, despite the smile still on your lips.  “My dearest Eomer…”
“Y/N, please, you can do this.”  He sat next to you on the bed, one hand resting on your cheek, wiping the tear away. “You have never given up on anything, don’t give up on this.  You must pull through.”
You leaned into his hand, just letting the tears fall.  “You don’t need to fear for me Eomer…we have won this day…you will lead our people…”
Eomer shook his head, his own tears finally starting to fall.  “Not without you.  I cannot do this without you.”
Again, you smiled, your eyes mostly closed now.  “It’s only goodbye for now, I don’t know what you are worried about.”
He stared at you, his eyes desperate as the smile became frozen on your lips and your hand went slack in his.  “Y/N…no…”
His voice broke, as he cradled your cheeks in his hands, the tears fogging his vision. “Y/N please, no!  Don’t go!  I cannot do this without you.  Come back!”
In his desperation, Eomer’s voice got louder, breaking upon each call of your name until the healers came, finding him hunched over you, cradling you to him as he wept, cursing in between the begging of trying to call you back, and fighting off any attempt to pull him away.
He couldn’t leave you.  Not now.

Haldir ~ Serenity
Word Drabbles 400 followers challenge
Requested by @babblesoftheinsane
You collapsed onto your bed with a grateful sigh, everything quiet and you could finally let yourself relax a little.
Shifting, you kick your shoes off before pulling the blanket around you to hug it tight and get comfortable, very intent on not moving for a while, even considering a nap.  It wasn’t that you didn’t love your children dearly, but it was nice to be able to get away for a little bit.
A cool breeze came in through the window and you hummed in appreciation, the smell of spring drifting through and letting you finally slip into a light slumber, hardly even thinking about what possible mischief your husband could be getting up to while looking after the children.
The dream you had was pleasant, almost a memory of earlier days when it was only the two of you.  Haldir loved taking you for long walks to all the hidden parts of the forest and you had never tired of it, enjoying each and every moment, even if it was somewhere you had already visited.
The flowers were in bloom and Haldir was laughing as he picked some, building you a rather large pile that left you giggling and struggling to hold, but still promising to hold onto them and still get them home so you could sit them on display.
You couldn’t believe the water was so clear, the stones laid bare before you in all their colours leaving you fascinated, wanting to dip your hands in but worried it would destroy the illusion.  Haldir was next to you but you didn’t get to see the mischievous smile before he pushed you in and jumped in after you.
Stretched out in a patch of sunlight, the two of you laughed and held hands, not wanting to move until the two of you were successfully dry.
Haldir was talking to you but you couldn’t make out the words, in fact, everything seemed to be getting darker more than you remembered it.
The sound of a door opening dragged you from the final layers of sleep, but you didn’t move, listening closely to who could possibly be sneaking in on you.
There was hushed whispers and you had to bite your cheek to hide a smile, three sets of footfalls turning into one and making you listen extra closely.
They bumped the bed slightly and you gave it one extra moment.
“I don’t think you want to do that.” You said calmly, opening one eye and smiling as you saw Haldir standing there, both of your children in either arm, their eyes wide at being caught.
The children burst into giggles, leaping onto the bed with you with cries of joy, excited to tell you of things you already knew but somehow turned into a massive tickle fight as you jokingly told them off for disturbing your time alone, Haldir grinning from the edge of the bed.
“Oh, don’t think you get away with this one Haldir.”
“Come on Ada!”
“Please Ada, please!”
So it became the four of you on the bed, laughing and playing until you and Haldir gave in and let the children win.
“Ah! They’ve beat us again!”  Haldir collapses back next to you, even as you laugh, a child atop of both of you, both laughing, eyes shining brightly.
They soon got distracted and began asking to go for a walk.
You beamed, momentarily taken back to your dream.  “I think a walk sounds like a marvellous idea.”
Haldir casts you a worried look.  “Y/N, are you sure you don’t need to rest more?”
You smile at him and kiss his cheek before sitting up and scooping off the child that sat in your lap.  “Haldir my love, there is no where I’d rather be.” You slips your shoes back on.  “Besides, I know the perfect spot that we can go.”

Thorin ~ Anxiety
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by Anon (Seriously guys, this one is a bit heavy and based of some of my own experiences.  The title is exactly what this is about and I want anyone that deals with it to know, that if you need to talk, I’m here to listen, you are not facing this alone.)
You knew it would be too much, knew that you wouldn’t be able to handle it, and now look, you were a mess, a complete and utter mess curled up on the bed with nowhere to go and nothing to do except wallow in your misery.
Tears were falling down your cheeks as your body seemed to react of its own accord to the emotions waging in you, convincing you that horrible things were about to happen and could happen and that no one cared enough to help you through.
In the back of your mind, you knew these things weren’t true, that you could get out of this, that nothing that had happened was your fault, that others were more than willing to help you through this, but this had been silently building for some time now and you’d been trying to fight it off on your own before you finally snapped and settled here, more of a mess than you’d even been.
Turning your head, you buried it into the pillow to try and muffle the loud panicked sobs that left you, wrapping your arms harder around yourself, bringing your knees up to try and make yourself as small as possible so that nothing could hurt you, trying to will it all away.
You were barely aware that there was a knock on the door, or of it opening or the quiet words that followed before it closed, but when a pair of hands touched you, you almost screamed, leaping back.
A bleary outline of Thorin stood there, looking worriedly at you, and this made you sob harder.
His words meant nothing over your cries and yet you didn’t resist as he joined you on the bed and pulled you to him, holding you close, stroking your hair, rubbing your arms, talking to you, anything he could think of to try and help you calm.
Some of it must have worked because you found yourself a bit more coherent, enough to talk at least a little.
“I know-” A heart breaking hiccup left you, even as you clung to him desperately.  “I know I said I’d never give up on you, but that’s exactly what I’m to do.”
I low rumble went through Thorin but his actions didn’t stop, his hands moving in gentle motions up and down your back, the other keeping you pressed to him.  “Nonsense Y/N, you are not giving up on anything.”
You shuddered.  “I can’t keep doing this Thorin, I can’t-” Your body reacted again and you curled up tighter, your lungs feeling heavy.
“I know it’s frightening my love,” He kept his voice quiet.  “But I need you to breathe for me, please, breath with me.”
“I can’t.”
“You can.” Thorin carefully moves you, so you’re pressed against his chest, his heartbeat in your ear.  “Focus on me and only me.”
You struggled weakly but Thorin’s hold was firm, his words reassuring, and slowly you let yourself be drawn to him.
“These times will pass, they are nothing to be afraid of.”
“There is nothing wrong with allowing yourself to break.”
“I love you and I am here for you, whenever you need me.”
“Everyone worries for you, my love, no one thinks that you have done anything wrong.”
“It’s going to be okay, you will get through this.  We will get through this.”
The more he talked, the more you settled, and although you knew there was still a long way to go, you could at least breathe now, keeping yourself in time with his deep breathes, letting you settle almost into an exhausted slumber, but you kept your grip on him tight.
“Thorin?”
“Yes my love?”
“Thank you.”
Soft kisses pressed into your hair.  “I am here whenever you need me, whether you think I am or not.”
You shivered and Thorin moved to pull the blankets up around the two of you, moving so you could get a little more comfortable and your body could try and relax more.
“I want you to rest now love, let your mind and body rest, it has been through a lot.”
A quiet sob leaves you and you bury against him.  “Thank you.”
“I love you my one, now get some sleep.  I am not going anywhere.”

Bard ~ Surprise
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by @everyjourneylove
You sat at the edge of the river, watching Bard as he practised, a small smile on your lips as he made it look so effortless and easy.  You were glad that you could spend days like this with him, far away from the busy lives that you both lead.
You had to make sure it was never dull.
“When was the last time you missed Bard?”  You asked lightly.
Bard, halfway through drawing his bow back again, lowers and looks over at you. “Not in a long time.”
Your smile widens.  “Not enough distractions for you?”
Bard matches your smile.  “You realise shooting with distractions is why I bring you here.”
Laughing, you shake your head, even as he draws back his bow and fires again. “That’s cute, but I’m not even trying.”
He smirks. “I’d like to see you try, I’m more than used to any sort of distractions.  I’ve been in battles you know.”
“Oh, I know,” You stand, heading towards him slowly as he continued to practise. “But it doesn’t change the fact that I’ve never really tried.”
Bard watched you out of the corner of his eye as you stepped closer, but it didn’t dissuade him from his shooting, still hitting his targets.
A light touch brushed along his back, but he just chuckled lightly, getting off another clean shot.  “You are going to have to do better than that.”
Unperturbed, you increase the pressure, moving up his back in a slow but steady movement, feeling him move as he drew the bow back again.
“You know a slight shove would solve this.”
“That would be cheating.”
You chuckle before your hand reaches his neck, brushing under his hair lightly, trailing along his neck.
“You still need to do better love.”
You stuck your tongue between your teeth, making a slight noise of annoyance, making him chuckle, which made you pull your hand back.
“Giving up already?”
“Why would I do that?”
There was a light tug on the back of his hair, making him laugh, even as he cast off another shot.
You tapped your chin for a moment, thinking before a mischievous grin crossed you expression.
Bard tensed a little as he felt you step closer behind him, not touching, but definitely close enough that he could feel your breath on the back of his neck.
“Y/N…”
“Yes dear?”
“What are you doing?”
“Playing along.”
Bard frowned, but smirked, drawing his bow back.
Your breath fanned over his ear and Bard swallowed.
“Have I ever told you how much I like watching you shoot?”  You asked in a low voice, holding back your smile.
Bard licked his lips.  “Well, I had figured considering you always join me.”
“Uh huh,” You couldn’t hold back the smile this time.  “I sit there getting all sorts of ideas.”
For a moment, Bard’s fingers twitched on the string and you almost thought that you had him, except he steadied again, even as he cleared his throat.
“What kind of ideas?”
You chuckled lightly and leaned right up to his ear.  “Why don’t you put that bow down so you can find out?”
Bard wasn’t sure whether it was your words or your breath on his ear that made him do it, but next thing he knew he was throwing the shot to try and save it, the arrow soaring way past its target.
“I guess I missed.” Bard said through a steadying breath, looking back at you as you watched him as innocently as possible, although your grin was giving it away.  “I guess I wasn’t as used to distractions as I thought I was.”
You beamed. “You mean my kind of distractions?”
He chuckled.  “I’m guessing you still had a few ideas up your sleeve?”
You gave a coy smile, turning away.  “I’m full of a lot of ideas Bard, but I guess you missed that too.”
“Oh you are going to get it for that one.”
You laughed, running as Bard takes off after you, making sure you stayed out of reach for at least a little while.

Bilbo ~ Joy
Word Drabbles 400 Followers Challenge
Requested by @babblesoftheinsane
You sat at the kitchen table waiting patiently, too nervous to do much except ring your hands and tap the table, torn between waiting and going to wake Bilbo up.
Finally, you heard the bedroom door open and a heavy yawn beyond, making you smile as he came into the kitchen.
At first Bilbo gave you a warm, sleepy smile, before his brows knitted in concern.  “Are you alright Y/N?”
You beamed, even as your voice came out unnaturally high.  “Of course!”  You cleared your throat.  “Can I not wait eagerly for my husband to get up?”
Bilbo nods but then his frown deepens.  “Y/N…why are you acting weird?”
“I’m not!” You stood and started to busy yourself around the kitchen.  “Would you like some breakfast?”
He watches you as he slowly sits, still unsure of what is happening, even as you start to cook without an answer.
You began to hum, trying to ignore Bilbo’s eyes on your back and swallow your nerves, wanting to say something but not sure how and feeling your face flush the longer he watched you.
“Not going to answer me Bilbo?”  You asked as casually as you could.
“Well, you’ve already started cooking so I think my answer is kind of pointless.” He said with a small smile even as you tense a little.
“I-well-I wanted to start cooking.”  You glanced at him, finding him both amused and baffled.  “Did you want anything with breakfast?”
“Well, seeing as you asked…”  Bilbo rubs his chin, pretending to think about it.
“Bilbo…”
He chuckles.  “Tea would be nice.  Thank you for asking Y/N.”
You huff a little, busying yourself again.  Bilbo relaxes after a little while, although he was still amused.
However, he couldn’t stand seeing your hands shake as you brought over the kettle, trying to pour the tea into the cups.
Bilbo’s hands rest over yours.  “Y/N, I cannot stand seeing you like this.  What is going on?”
You drew in a shuddering breath, a nervous smile making your lips twitch and so Bilbo led you to the chair, getting you to sit down where he pushed his tea towards you.
“Relax Y/N, it’s only me, what could you possibly be this nervous about?”
It took you a long moment, breathing deeply, starting several times before you had to cut yourself off, almost breaking into giggles.
Bilbo couldn’t help but smile, watching you.  “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you like this before.”
“Well, it’s because I have something important to tell you.”  You finally said coherently, looking at him with wide, nervous eyes.  “And, well, I haven’t been really sure how to tell you.”
Bilbo raises an eyebrow.  “Why can’t you just tell me?”
It seemed so foolish, but you beamed none the less.  “Always with the good ideas huh?”
“I try.”
You laugh and take his hands tightly in yours.  “Bilbo, I’m pregnant.”
He stilled for a moment, staring at you as you beamed at him before his started to smile. “Really?”
You nod, the tears finally starting and Bilbo laughs, pulling you into his arms as the two of you both started to laugh and cry at the same time and it was some time again before either of you could talk coherently again.
