sadly the person who did that nils analysis post blocked me ( not sure why but its whatever ) but it really opened my eyes to Nils a little TW for mentions of SA and light NSFW mentions ( I'm specifically talking abt older Nils and Elka in that context though )

At first i was thinking why Nils is the way he is was bc he had neglectful parents and unrestricted access to adult content but thinking over it more the implications that he could have been sexually abused makes a bit more sense ( granted i think the unrestricted access to adult content still shaped him for the worse ) Like if we take the Campster as canon a lot of the other campers list media that's definitely not meant for their age group ( Bobby having a bunch of R rated slasher movies, Kitty having Mulhohand Drive which is rated R, Milkas fave movie having a fucking rape scene in it etc ) but they don't seem to act like how Nils does. Sure Kitty does act a lot older than she is but i think some of it is because she hit puberty early along with other factors ( probably having access to media that while not exactly 100% explicit is definitely not meant for a 12 year old ) and Milka calls Lili, Kitty and Franke " ho's " but imo idk if Milka even fully knows what that means ( most likely heard her mom using that word in an insulting manner and just parroted it since she's like 7 and doesn't know any better )

It also adds a whole other layer to my " despite him acting outwardly sexual when he's older Nils is actually terrified of intimacy and chickens out when he and Elka attempt to be intimate " headcanon i have

but, yes, it’s so good!! ahhh my professor made us watch it as an assignment and i’m so glad she did.

also; i know you don’t watch much anime but i do recommend evangelion. it’s also on netflix. it is one of those shows you have to sit down afterwards and just go “holy shit”

I saw a while back they got cleared for season two. I think they’re already making it? I’m keen though.

I’ll add Evangelion to my watch list but I don’t know when I’ll be able to watch it. I’m getting sucked into the Spencer Reid!simp hole. I’m not fully in there yet, but I’m definitely getting there.

if raz met ambassador and strongman before b-movie (when bobby's mental health was taken out back and shot), he'd probably get confused seeing their backsides and think, "why are there two vaguely bobby-shaped individuals over there? and why are they in the artifacts department?" and head over to check it out only to get jumpscared with a double dose of 3D zilch archetypes looking over their shoulders at him.

immediately, strongman tries stirring shit with him, but ambassador is attempting (key word) to be cordial by asking if raz knows where a certain object is. he's also slung his arm around strongman to prevent him from wildly attacking raz and getting bobby in trouble.

"uh, yeah, i know where that is, but why can't bobby get it himself?"

and they just glare at him because they're not divulging that bobby is currently taking his 3 p.m. depression nap when he's supposed to be getting it for his new mentor. raz shrugs and points out the object, and very, very tersely, ambassador thanks him. he lets strongman go, only to snatch him by his wrist and haul him under his arm when he tries getting a swing in at raz for "hitting him off the rail." it's not a good first encounter, but it keys in to raz that there is something...not great going on with bobby - he doesn't feel compelled to act, though, because the trio is still giving him the cold shoulder, and sometimes, if bobby isn't starting shit with him, then raz is the one starting shit (when the prying eyes of their superiors aren't looking).

Ok this is a little awkward helped my two friends with their writing part of the proficiency exam and got them higher scores than i did for myself 💀 i still got a C1 in it ofc but less points than them and i wont stand for that

What do you think Queepie will look like when he's older? More like his mom? His dad? Since he's technically the 'strongman' of the Aquato's do you think he'd be buff when he's older?

Queepie looks like he's the shortest of his siblings when he's all grown up (shortest being a relative term when the actual shortest is still well over the average height), because his stockier build (Queepie with strongman chonk Queepie with strongman chonk) does look shorter next to Dion's leaner build. Queepie is in fact taller than Dion by two inches.

As for whether Queepie looks more like Augustus or Donatella,,, I think he looks like Queepie! He's got Augustus' sturdiness and he's got Donatella's nose but he's ultimately Queepie all in all.

Thinking about Psychonauts 2 again, and you know what scene pops into my head a lot? It’s near the end of the game, when Raz runs back to the caravan to get his family’s support to take down Maligula. In a game about mental health and coping with loss and mistakes, this scene, while small, says volumes.

If you don’t remember, when Raz makes his way to the caravan while Nona is in the middle of her big water tornado, this is how he finds his family; gathered around Augustus, offering whatever support they can.

Look at how Augustus is sitting. The classic “face to your knees” pose naturally signals that he’s upset, but there’s something more to that. When you think of this pose, who do you think of?

Children. Children are more likely to sit like this as they process their big feelings because sitting on the floor doesn’t feel inappropriate. When you get older, you feel embarrassed expressing yourself the way you did as a child and you move onto other coping mechanisms, ones that are less visibly upset. But not Augustus, not in this moment. I first when I saw this, I wasn’t sure what was happening, until Donatella spoke.

Remember, Raz just finished sorting through Nona’s memories and unlocking the psychic barriers that kept Maligula trapped. We recently learned that Ford messed with both Nona and Augustus’ memories to make them believe Nona was truly Augustus’ mother, not his aunt. Both of Augustus’ parents died, and have been dead for decades. While Raz was undoing the mental blocks, he wasn’t just revealing the truth to Nona. He was unraveling the truth in Augustus’ mind too.

Imagine you’re with your family, looking for your mother. She’s old, she’s wandered off, she isn’t as sharp as she used to be. You need to find her and keep her safe, you almost lost your son a few days ago and you can’t lose your mother too. And then the memories start unlocking. Memories of two graves, of a packed orphanage, of a strange man warping your mind and delivering you into the care of a woman you knew deep down to be the arbiter of national genocide, who this man made you think was your mother. Of course you break down. Of course you act like a child, even in front of your own children. What else can you do?

When Augustus says this, the statement is twofold. The mother he thought survived has been dead all this time, and the woman who did raise him has warped back to the traumatized, angry shell that caused so much death in your past. He’s lost both women in this moment.

The series does an incredible job of connecting us with the trauma and baggage of whoever’s mind we enter. But we never enter Augustus’ mind. We only get to see his trauma through show not tell, and that leaves us with a more evocative scene than many of the mental worlds we’ve visited before.

The writers know how powerful this scene is, and they make sure we linger on it with this long zoom out. The entire family embraces Augustus and shares in his woe. They’ll need their strength to help Nona soon enough, but they have to grieve for a moment, they have to acknowledge the hurt and pain they’ve inherited if they hope to rebuild their family.

I love this game.
