Looking for help!
Hello everyone!
This project has gained a lot more attention than I ever thought it would. At the moment, I (@resister-sister) am the only person working on the educational parts, and @opabiniawillreturn is helping out with posting. In order to get this up and running as soon as possible, I need more people to help with the educational pages.
¡What I am looking for: radfems who know the ins and outs of radical feminism and can summarise the very basics at a level someone who doesn't even know what feminism is could understand. Radfems who have any experience with copywriting and editing.!
This is NOT a meme page, so the writing will be factual and accurate. No funny stuff. We are also trying to be as objective as possible when describing radical feminism. Think of Simple English Wikipedia, that kind of level, only more in depth and exclusively about radical feminism. Much like Wikipedia, we do not use slurs (unless censored as examples, e.g. "c*nt" as an example of misogyny) nor do we swear. This is aimed at absolutely everyone and I don't want there to be any reason that we have issues regarding this. If we get problems, it is solely because of the ideas and not for any other reason. Similarly, any link that uses slurs should be marked. I have seen an upsetting amount of radfems use ableist slurs like "r*****d", and that kind of language is not okay, especially as a disabled woman who has had that used against me. If that comes up in a link, mark it. Just like you should mark links that contain slurs towards TIMs and TIFs, racism, etc. You do not have to mark links for swearing. Yes, a certain amount of this is tone policing, but this is a blog aimed at people who otherwise know nothing about radical feminism and we need to make this a good introduction and not scare people off. This blog may also absolutely be used in shaping libfem opinions about us and I want to keep it civil. If there are TRAs or libfems looking for fights in the notes, please either correct them in the educational tone of the blog, with research and citations, or just leave them. Even if you don't join the team or even want to.
I plan on having separate pages for important issues in radfem, such as porn, gender, men, etc. There will also be a main FAQ page, which I am currently working on (although it's a bit of a mess). If you think you can help with any of these pages, please message me and tell me a bit about what you are planning on writing. If you also would like to become a member of this blog, please message me! Let me know a bit about yourself and what you can help with! If you would like to help with the FAQ, also let me know! What questions have you been/seen asked a lot about radical feminism? Do you have any resources you can contribute? What did you find useful when learning about radfem? What do you wish you had when you were learning about radfem?
Thank you very much! I look forward to this blog being more complete and useful thanks to your help!

this is going to be like a very long, detailed, and mostly my personal observations and notes. as it was my first time seeing neymar and the brazil nt in person, i want to remember everything i can while its still fresh. it was a very exciting and at the same time surreal experience because i see those people all the time on tv games and now there they were few feet away from me...
i took the photos and videos. i am usually pretty good at that but i guess the excitement got the better of me because they did not come out fabulous. tumblr is being stupid with not letting me upload more then one video in a post, and i wanted everything together, so i ended up putting them up on youtube.
the hotel 9/3/2018.
so first i went to the hotel (very close to where i live) on monday 9/3. as it was labor day, i was off work and at a bbq/pool party abt 10 miles from home for the day. brazil nt was scheduled to leave the hotel for their first training at 4pm so i left the party early and, after some traffic drama, made it to the hotel little after 3.40pm. there were not too many people so i had a decent view but i also moved around a bit. some of the support staff was coming out already. a few minutes later, firmino was the first i saw, he waved and went straight to the bus.
then a group of marquinhos, douglas costa, fabinho etc came out together. only marquinhos paid any attention to the fans, waving and smiling but didnt stop.
then another group, including casemiro.
then alisson came out. he was really sweet, smiled, stopped with the fans, signed stuff. interacted the most of anyone else with the fans.
then another group - i think richarlison (idk him really), filipe luis, thiago silva. thiago was just as nice as alisson, stopped with the fans, signed stuff. he looked to me a bit shorter irl then on tv...
willian came out alone next.
at this point, it was almost 4pm, my excitement had totally built up and i was so anxious to see my boy ney. i started thinking that maybe he will get there separately cuz i hadnt seen coutinho and tite either. but there he was! coming out last with barely a minute to spare before 4pm (the timestamp on my photo is 3:58:59pm lol). he was the very last one to come out, chewing on something, with his typical swagger. he waved but didnt stop and the bus left as soon as he got on. he looked just as hot in person as on tv, the cameras dont lie lol. really handsome and very very sexy! i mean, i expected it, i have seen his photos lol but omg he looks so damn good you cant help those dirty thoughts! i felt like an absolute fangirl! this is neither here or there, but he looked to me a little bigger then i expected. just kinda...fuller?
i only took one photo of him cuz i wanted to look at him with my own eyes rather than thru the camera ;)
it was such an incredible experience seeing neymar and the rest of the guys in person so close that i was shaking after! like for real my hands were shaking, my legs were shaking. and i couldnt stop grinning for a good half an hour after. i went to the boardwalk to calm down a bit and just absorb the experience. people passing by probably thought im crazy or reading love letters on my phone or something cuz i just couldnt stop grinning but i didnt give a flying fuck what they were thinking - i had just seen neymar!
my notes and impressions:
1. OMFG I SAW NEYMAR FROM FEW FEET AWAY. just that, my brain was really way too frazzled to process any other impressions lol
the game 9/7/2018
so after some c. drama, despite my initial hopes, i had accepted that i am not going to go to the game. and then the day before i find out I AM GOING!!! i was so freaked out with excitement lol!!!
getting there was so frustrating! first i had forgot to charge my phone before leaving work so i only had like 30% which was nowhere near good enough for my plans of copious pics and vids. so i had to run into a bodega to buy a charger for the car. then for some complicated reason we had to leave from the ues and fucking DRIVE. crosstown. on a friday. at 6pm. straight thru freakin time square with its gazillion tourists. on top of rush hour. even though the schedule said 8pm, the tickets said the event starts at 7.30 and i wanted to be there early to see the warmups and at 7.02 we were still not even inside lincoln tunnel ffs! i was FUMING and ready to jump outta the car and start yelling at the other cars to get a goddamn fucking move on i got places to be people to see! just ugh. so frustrating. the only upside of taking so long to get to the stadium was that by the time we got there my phone was almost 100%...
anyway, finally at 7.25pm we got there and thru all the checks etc (my joke of a miniature purse was shown as an example to another girl with a slightly bigger purse and praised by security for being perfect size which pissed me off because of their dumbass rules it had is smaller then my regular WALLET ffs and it barely even fits my phone so in no way is it a ‘perfect size’ except maybe for dolls or tiny aliens. but they had the stupid clear bag / tiny purse rule in effect and all i cared at that point was getting in so whatever. still, fucking terrorists. obviously also for more important reasons than just being the cause of my having to have a tiny purse but yeah fucking terrorists).
the stadium was buzzing already. apparently the 7.30 start was for the warmups so perfect for me. this was the view from our seats.
when we got to our seats, the usa team was out already. and the canarinho was interacting with fans. and then brazil came out.
youtube
ney was warming up with coutinho
after stretches, he did some practice shooting. this one didnt go in.
after that the team went back inside and the canarinho came behind the barriers to interact with the fans (photo below especially taken for a.)
time for the teams to come out. for some reason the tunnel was on my side of the stadium but the benches were on the other side and they lined up there for the anthems. (again, for a.)
youtube
youtube
then the us anthem and, since we dont do things here on a small scale, the flag rolled out was the size of the whole stadium lol
in the first half neymar was playing in front of me. in the beginning of the game i took a few photos and then i stopped because i wanted to watch the game and see with my own eyes not concentrate on the phone... still, here they are
here is the penalty. i didnt catch it go in because i was looking at it happening rather then my phone. i also removed the sound cuz there was screaming when it went in lol. it was a VERY soft penalty btw...
youtube
my notes and impressions:
1. it was a friendly so not surprisingly, it was not an edge-of-your-seat game. still brazil dominated the crap out of the usa team. the difference in class and quality was glaringly obvious.
2. it was strange not supporting my country’s team. but only when i thought about it. otherwise my soccering heart belongs to brazil 100%, without a doubt.
3. watching a game live vs tv: both have pros and cons. again, after watching every week on tv, seeing these guys live in person is simply incredible. just absolutely surreal. like, they are moving, running, kicking right in front of you. you can hear the ball being kicked. feel the tension. see what they are doing without the ball. watch their interactions away from the camera. feel the power of the crowd. its just so much more immersive. at the same time, watching at home the curated game content is... convenient. you get closeups. you get facts from the commentators. your bathroom is nearby (i did carefully time my liquid intake that day to avoid venturing into stadium bathrooms and thank god it worked lol). so imo, watching a game on tv is not really that much worse then watching it live. i always felt like i am getting a completely filtered version on tv and it is filtered but it is not horrible. yes, you are missing out on stuff but its not a total loss.
4. the stadium was about 40% full, 32k of 82k capacity. but it felt more like 2/3, probably because on the other side many sections were not even open so most everyone attending was spread out in one long side and the two goal sides.
5. brazil fans were out strong! i’d say about 70% of the people were brazil fans, and of those about 90% had on brazil jerseys. yellow galore lol. the usa fans were constantly chanting but when the brazil fans decided to make the effort they drowned them out easily and completely!
6. the usa fans were in the section behind one of the goals. throughout most of the game i thought oh cute they are constantly singing their hearts out supporting their clearly outplayed loosing team. then they did iceland’s viking chant. yes, it is a cool chant but its iceland’s. idk why so many have been plagiarizing it! first portugal did it in the wc, then i saw another, and now the american outlaws (the usa ultras)... let iceland have its thing people. i did not appreciate it but no big deal. BUT then they did something that pissed me off - few minutes before neymar was substituted in the 80 min they chanted fuck neymar. i was not best pleased to say the least! lick sweaty balls jealous motherfuckers!
7. we did a wave that went around the stadium like 4 times!
8. there was a small group of 13-14yo girls right behind us that whenever ney touched the ball or looked our way screamed ‘neymaaaarrr, neymaaaaarrrrrrrr, vaiiiiiii, vai neymaaaaaaarrrrrrrr’. one girl in particular was especially shrill and vociferous in her dedication to ney. no sense of decorum whatsoever lol. my bf was smirking at me and was like why dont you go sit with them. i on the other hand was thinking that while i wouldnt go sit with them, if some of my tumblr girls were here.... well those girls wouldnt even know what hit them!
9. i would definitely go to a game again!
10. while the seats we had were really good, i wish there was an option to be even closer and still see the whole pitch. then again, for me it would probably only qualify as ‘close enough’ if im allowed to run along the sidelines lol. but then i wont really be able to watch the game. (hey maybe i can hang from the skycam hahaaaa!). yes, i am a neymar fan but i am also a fan of the game so i want both. i did not have any input in the choice of these seats but i think it was a good trade off - the closest where you can both see the guys and actual game. if i have to pick the tickets for the next game (hopefully i will go again some time!), i would be tempted by the lower levels but the barriers are pretty high so... i would probably go for the same - second level first row.
11. there was a guy sitting next to me with his date and he was trying to be all knowledgeable and impress the girl but half the stuff he was telling her was wrong lol! he kept pointing to douglas costa and telling her its firmino. i was cracking myself up listening to him talk complete bullshit but with such grand authority about technical game stuff.
12. at some point a loose ball ended up into the stands, some guy caught it, and 2 min later security came to take it away from him :/ why not let the guy just keep the ball?!? stupid. if it was me, i’d have made a fuss, maybe pretended that it hit me in the face and threatened to sue the stadium cuz they have not ensured the spectators’ safety or some such crap lol. see if they dont let me keep it to avoid a lawsuit.
13. the canarinho (for a.) - he was really great! interacting with the fans, dancing, hugging fans. really a fantastic mascot and absolute joy to watch! during the halftime he was out on the pitch, doing keepie uppies (in those shoes too!!! showing his brazilianness lol), and kicking balls into the stands
14. i was totally impressed by neymar. it was just so obvious how good he is and no, not because i am biased, which i admittedly am. i expected him to be good, duh, but to see it so clearly was amazing. he is not a fluke, he is the real deal. he stands out among even such quality peers as the rest of brazil nt! just something in the way he interacts with the ball, the way he moves, ‘sees’ his teammates without looking, turns on a dime, does the unexpected. i dont think he ‘thinks’ or ‘calculates’ at all his moves or that it is just a lot of practice, i think it is pure instinct in the moment, i.e. phenomenal natural talent. even though this was not one of his greatest games for sure, he just looked... special and different from the rest. most of the brazil players were displaying their clearly high quality but there is just something unique in the way neymar plays. even if you dont know who he is, what teams are playing, anything at all, you’d still pick him out and know that there is something extraordinary about this guy. if you unfocus your eyes so you see just all same yellow shirt figures, you would still be able to pick out which one is neymar. he did a bit of his skills and tricks and of course i wished he had done more. what i took away from watching him play live was that, in this average game, he looked as good playing live as he has in the past when i have watched his great games on tv. i dont know why. but watching neymar play live was an experience of its own. it felt like his average ‘live’ performance is as good as his great ‘tv’. i cant even imagine what it would be like watching one of his great performances live. while i dont feel im loosing so much watching games on tv vs live as mentioned above, i definitely feel that watching neymar in particular play live is on another level and im missing out when i watch him on tv instead of live. he is absolutely worth the price of admission. i was so disappointed in him for his wc antics but thats in the past now, and i have been reminded how right it feels to be his fan, not just for the nice things he does for kids/charity, his fun personality (and lets not forget the good looks, and oh boy they are SO GOOD lol) but his undeniably outstanding talent on the pitch. his game is just incredible. i hope he keeps healthy. i hope he gets his temper under control not just for a few games but for good. and i pray he always has the freedom to shine like he rightfully can. i am rooting for him to get the appreciation and acknowledgement he deserves, unadulterated by behavioral issues or personal drama.
ok, imma stop now. this post is huge, even by my standards.

I’m appalled...
I was initially a bit sad, that’s even a bit too far, maybe just a bit less excited that our boys didn’t win musicbank but completely happy for Red Velvet to win because I think they deserve it too. Both groups work their butts off and everyone deserve the win in my heart. But what got me so fucking worked up...
I’ve seen both “ReVeluv” and “iKONICS” (yes, i’m putting it in quotation because I don’t know if I want to associate these people with the fandom name) threw around these words: flops, f**gots, gays, shady, c*nt, shitty, bitch and soooo many other things.
Where do you think being disrespectful to other fits in on helping out your favorite groups make charts and win awards? NO FREAKING WHERE! SO STOP IT!
it’s 2018 stop the goddamn fanwars please. Do you think your “oppas” and “unnies” go backstage and duel to the death? No, they probably exchange albums and bow to each other, joke around and share honest artistic thoughts so why in the world are the fans being so rude to each other and to the idols.
What happening to just saying “congratulation, I see that you guys did well and won this time. Next time we’ll work harder.” What happen to just being courteous to one another. Discrediting the competition doesn’t make you better nor will it magically take the win back.
On that note, what good does it do to constantly comment “my oppas are better”, “iKON song is so much better, Red Velvet song is boring”, “Red Velvet just copies ‘insert girl group names here’”, “iKON is so shady getting PAK but can’t win award”, “iKON bought all those charts”, “they’re still flop”
Seriously, what are you even trying to achieve by doing that. If you can’t accept that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, don’t even click on the article at all, why even bother commenting. If you hate one someone else, don’t be angry when iKON wins and they get hate comments because guess what? What goes around come back around. I see you going on a rampage when the boys get hate but suddenly it’s different if it’s the RV girls getting hate and you’re the one giving it? So what if you think RV song is boring or awful or lame, your taste is different from others, saying those things doesn’t help convincing non-fan to give iKON a chance, it’s not going to make them want to listen to these songs we think are so great. What if it had been reverse, what if iKON wins and other fans said Love Scenarios suck, what would you do? What’s the point of mentioning other groups at all when there’s nothing in the article pertaining to them. If a group win, just congratulate them or walk away and work harder.
HATING ISN’T HOW YOU SHOW SUPPORT. IT MAKES YOU AND THE GROUP LOOKS BAD.
I’m so pissed off my words are lost, I can’t even finish writing down all the things I want to get off my chest so here are a few thank you.
Thank you to all the respectful fans that cheered even when your groups didn’t win. Thank you to all those who streamed so hard and bought album to help chart the groups. Thank you for just loving the groups with all your heart and wishing them to be healthy/happy. Thank you for not disrespecting others when things doesn’t go your way. Thank you for being a decent human being.
I’m so sick and tired of seeing the hate.

One rule for the cunts and one rule for everyone else.
I received this lovely ask today and now is the time for me to answer…
To put you in context, I received an anonymous message 2 days ago (to which I’m pretty sure this one is related to) that I decided not to reply to for a couple of reasons. The most important reason being that it’s related to one of my personal friend, named in said message, and I don’t want that person to feel like they have to address it publicly if they don’t want to, the choice is theirs to make.
The message was asking me about why I had not said anything about my friend meeting Catherine when I had been so quick to judge people at the stage door in Bath, and then went on to say that my friend followed Catherine to have a conversation with her and feel like she’s better than everybody else, the message also said ‘‘that’s like not overly familiar at all’’.Here are the twitter post I made about the stage door situation;
I’ve just witness the most ridiculous behaviour from people that call themselves fans, since when backing someone in a corner is acceptable?
I felt so bad for Jemma, she was clearly feeling stock and wanted some room to move… and Jules was just a sweetheart trying to help
I wish I was, and honestly I don’t care that this might make me hated by some of the fandom but it needed to be said!
I dont know how anyone could feel good about taking a picture with them in that kind of environnement
My Twitter is x0xmarie0x0 and the post where made on April 1st, 2017
(To those wondering, I checked and I didn’t made a post on Tumblr related to this, I thought I had but apparently not)
I still stand by what I said that day, now, if you were there and have a completely different feeling about how things went, it’s your opinion and I respect it, but this is how I personally felt and it’s not going to change. This was not normal stage door behaviour, I get being excited but it doesn’t excuse invading people’s personal space like some did. I also know I’m not the only person who felt that way. I have personally waited at a stage door for a mega movie star in the past and even that wasn’t as intense as what happened that day.
Like I said, I’m not going to name or tag the person about whom those messages seems to be related to because I want them to be able to choose to address it or not, it’s their choice, not mine to make. (I have deleted posts that would have made it clear as to whom it is for this exact reason) What I can tell you about them is that yes, they indeed had an ‘‘out of the ordinary’’ moment with Catherine and I’m one of the few that person chose to share it with. I’m not going to give any specific details about it, not only for them but also to respect Catherine and what she decided to share or not share with that person. I don’t know how the words got out and how this anon heard about it, I’ve personally shared a bit more details than what I’m writing here to some friends I trust wouldn’t have said anything. The only thing I might have told (or been overheard sharing) is how Catherine told that person Jemma was going to be at that specific representation of WTBS, it is the only way I could see as to how that anon knew I knew about my friend and Catherine meeting. The last thing I can had about this meeting is that they have not followed Catherine anywhere in the way the message implied, I know for a fact that person was thinking about not meeting Catherine at all during their trip.
I want to make it clear that I do not think my friend or myself are perfect, or that my opinion (or theirs) is better than anyone else. I’m also not doing this just to defend someone I care about, I’m doing this because I’m sick and tired of fandom wars and people not being respectful towards one another. I don’t believe in going into people ask box, using the anonymous feature, to call people names (in this case c*nts… really, what are we, 10yrs old?) and try to start fights. Don’t you think maybe people would feel more free about sharing their experiences if they didn’t have to be scared some people would get jealous and start harassing them or their friends? I have heard about private messsage boards/forums where people actually ask members to harass others because they said something they didn’t agree with or felt like something someone said was disrespectful towards Catherine or Jemma. That’s what I call online bullying and being someone who was the victim of this specific kind of bullying I cannot stay silent about this.
I know that I am a really opinionated person (I mean, look at the size of this post) and sometimes I understand how people could interpret it as me thinking I’m better than others (which I swear I don’t) and I sometimes react a bit too quickly and don’t take time to process things before publicly saying something. I made friends in this fandom with people I don’t always agree with (including the friend I’m specifically talking about here) and, in all honesty, I sometime even feel a tiny bit of jealousy when it comes to my (berena) friends having opportunities or experiences I don’t or didn’t get to have. I am far from being perfect and definitely never thought me or any of my friends are, I’ll be the first to admit when I was wrong about something (even if it hurts my ego) and am ready to talk things out with people when needs to be. I certainly don’t know everything but one thing I do know is that no one deserve to ever feel like they are less than others or that they don’t have the right to enjoy things because others don’t think they should.
I’m also going to take the time to rant (because let’s face it, this is partly what I’m doing here) on a couple of different things;
Catherine and Jemma DO NOT have to do all the things they do for us, it’s nice of them to take the time to share part of their time and lives and I think it’s our responsibility to make sure they have a great time doing it. I’m not saying we have to agree with all they do or say, but we can make sure that even when we don’t we all stay polite towards them and each other.
One of the particularity of this fandom is how much we try to support both Catherine and Jemma but also their friends and family. I personally follow most of their family members on most social media, and I’m the first one to admit I shouldn’t interact with them as much as I do, but I think it’s important to remember that some of them are less comfortable with the attention than others and they don’t have to deal with their mum/wife/sister/friend fans like they do and we should all stay respectful of their boundaries. I’m just trying to say that maybe we should evaluate the reasons why we support them and then adapt our support accordingly. There’s nothing wrong with you going to see one of Sam show because you really find him funny (I’m planning on doing it next time I’m in London), nothing wrong if you love Poppy’s music and poetry (I know I personally love all of it) and want to tell her about it, nothing wrong if you are excited about Gab’s new/latests projects, but all of it isn’t right if you do it only to get recognition from Catherine and Jemma. These people are their owns entities and they deserve to be loved and respected for who they are and not because of whom their parents are.
Conventions season is here and a lot of lucky people will get to meet both Jemma and Catherine in London (sadly I won’t be able to attend), and the week after, Jemma in Birmingham (I’ll be there), so please people, make the experiences enjoyable for not only Jemma and Catherine but for all the other fans going. This includes not screaming random stuff to get their attention while they are meeting up with people (I’ve seen this happen, I should really say experienced it, in Bath and in all honesty those people are really lucky I didn’t want to cause a scene), some people might be more nervous than others, some might take a bit more time with them for a lot of reasons, some might choose to share private things with them they don’t want to tell everyone else so please mind your own business until it’s your time with them. I would also encourage people to help eachother out, if it’s not your first time at a Con and you realize it’s the first time for someone else and they don’t really know how it works give them pointers, if you see someone being so nervous they feel like running away, they might simply need for someone to be there and tell them it’s going to be alright. If it’s your first time doing this kind of thing, please do a bit of research, it will help you and others in the long run (I know it did for me). Last thing, if it’s not your first time meeting them, be mindful of that and let others have their moments with them too, we want as many people as possible to be able to experience this at its fullest and to have fun doing it. At the end of the day, what we want is for them to continue doing these kind of things with us, isn’t it? So please, don’t be an a*shole.
Catherine is really open, and I mean REALLY open about stuff online which means that we also are pretty open in the way we reply to her (me the first) but I’ve seen some weird and maybe a bit to personal and inappropriate things being said to her on Twitter, so for the love of god (or whatever you believe in) please remember that this is public and for everyone to see and that she’s human and even though I’m sure she doesn’t get shocked by much maybe they are things she shouldn’t or doesn’t want to know.
I could definitely go on and on (as you can probably tell by the length of this post) but I will stop after these few words;
The Berena fandom was (and still is) a really special place for a lot of people and it pains me to see that yet again a fandom I liked can’t seem to stick together because of different opinions on multiple of subjects. We have the chance to be in a fandom that connect people from different part of the world, coming from different backgrounds, different age groups, and we all connected with Berena for so many different reasons. Shouldn’t this be enough?
And to this lovely anon (I’m pretty sure I know who you are) next time you have something to tell me, please come off anon and let’s have a nice and civilise conversation (in private or publicly) but please know that I do not respond well to people calling me, or my friend, c*nts and I won’t let anyone try to intimidate me (been there, done that, not gonna let it happen again) so, you can stop this right now. And to anyone who doesn’t like me or what I have to say, it’s fine, you have the right to, ignore me (that’s what I usually do) or even block me if you need to but please don’t try to pick fights with me or the people I care about. (Collectormania won’t be the moment to try to speak to me unless you have something nice to say, I’m going there to enjoy myself and spend time with people I love and to meet Jemma not to create drama, leave me alone!)
On this note,
Good Night!
#Berena#I am extremely tired of the things happening in this fandom and receiving message like this just pisses me off#oh and I am going to post a link on twitter and will tag it with berena so yes I am aware Catherine or Jemma might read this#Ive been saying for months that Ive wanted to write#didn't expect it this to be this tho

The Daily Tulip
The Daily Tulip – News From Around The World

Good Morning Gentle Reader…. I'm reminded of the Who song "I can see for miles and miles and miles" this morning standing down at the ocean with an unbelievable view of the heavens, in the past 10 minutes I have stood here I have seen three meteors zip across the night sky and vanish over the distant horizon.... well, I hope that’s what they were…. The temperatures for today are a wonderful 29c High and a 22c Low ( in old terms that 84f and 72f ) the suffering that I do just living in Spain… We came up the hill today, or I should say Bella wanted to climb the hill, she seems to have her days when she wants to go to the Hermitage and others when she wants the ocean.. are well women are fickle like that, but I know what I want and it’s my morning brew so we turn and descend to the house, coffee, digestive biscuits and you, what a mix ….
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT…. A Half-Indian woman (wonder which half?) was on Monday crowned Miss Japan, the second year in a row a biracial person has won the beauty pageant. Priyanka Yoshikawa, 22 and who also has an elephant training license, said she would use her win to "change perceptions".... Well she's already changed mine, where did she get her Elephant Training License and the big question and Why???
LAST YEAR'S MISS JAPAN, ARIANA MIYAMOTO…. was the first mixed-race person to win the pageant. Critics complained then that a "pure" Japanese should have won, (In the UK they would have called that a racist remark). Only about 2% of babies born every year are biracial, or "haafu", (It seems you can only have this type of baby when you have a cold, Haafu!) the Japanese word for half. Miss Japan 2015 Ariana Miyamoto faced a backlash after she became the first "haafu" to win the beauty pageant "We are Japanese," Ms Yoshikawa told news outlet AFP. "Yes, my dad is Indian and I'm proud of it, I'm proud that I have Indian in me. But that doesn't mean I'm not Japanese." She credited her win to Ms Miyamoto, saying she had helped show "mixed girls the way". "Before Ariana, “haafu” girls couldn't represent Japan," said Ms Yoshikawa. "That's what I thought too. Ariana encouraged me a lot by showing me and all mixed girls the way." "I know a lot of people who are haafu and suffer," she said. "When I came back to Japan, everyone thought I was a germ." "Like if they touched me they would be touching something bad. But I'm thankful because that made me really strong." The pageant winner, also an avid kick-boxer and qualified elephant trainer, said that she hoped to change perceptions… (I honestly don’t make any of this stuff up! Hahaha) "When I'm abroad, people never ask me what mix I am. As Miss Japan, hopefully I can help change perceptions so that it can be the same here too." Ms Yoshikawa's win did not trigger the backlash that Ms Miyamoto received on social media.
TROUSERS-DOWN MINISTER STATUE PROTESTS NZ WATER QUALITY…. A larger-than-life statue of New Zealand's environment minister, fashioned from horse dung, has been left outside council offices in Christchurch. The work by artist Sam Mahon shows minister Nick Smith with his trousers round his ankles, genitals on display, defecating into a glass of water, the New Zealand Herald reports. It's a protest against the government's water quality policy, which aims to improve water quality in lakes and rivers. Opponents say it will relax standards, however, and could expose people to harmful bacteria. A last-minute court injunction by Environment Canterbury (ECan) failed to stop the protest. A court had banned the statue from being delivered to ECan last week, so it was carried to a public footpath nearby instead, its bare buttocks facing the regional council building. Answering critics who thought the statue protest crude, Mr Mahon said that "If you want to make a political comment about something, coat it in chocolate. So I've got the idea of what Nick's doing to us, and if people laugh on both sides, they'll swallow the medicine."
AUSTRALIANS GRAPPLE WITH NEW ID RULE FOR TAKEAWAY BOOZE…. Citizens in Australia's Northern Territory now need to produce photographic ID if they want to buy takeaway alcohol, it's reported. This means that more than 1,000 people living in the country's northernmost state will be unable to make a purchase, now that the Banned Drinker Register (BDR) has been relaunched by the authorities in an attempt to cut booze-related crime, The NT News reports. A register was attempted in 2011, but was replaced within a year with a mandatory treatment scheme for problem drinkers. Now that the BDR has been successful, bottle shop customers must produce photo ID, which is then scanned through machines linked to the BDR database. Trade associations, however, fear that glitches in the system could result in long delays, raising the prospect of violence against staff. A recent trial of the machines resulted in just that outcome, the Australian Hotels Association NT told the paper. The territory's Liquor Stores Association hints at further problems to come, given that the roll-out is happening on what is traditionally the busiest day of the week. "It's going to be a nightmare," LSANT president Faye Hartley said. "It'll take time to sort out and to start."
STAR WARS STAMPS RELEASED TO MARK LATEST MOVIE…. A special edition set of Star Wars stamps will be released to mark the latest movie in the sci-fi series. The set of eight, illustrated by artist Malcolm Tween, will be released to commemorate the upcoming movie, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which launches in December. They will feature images of new and classic characters alongside spaceships from the films in specially-created scenes, Royal Mail said. Maz Kanata, Chewbacca, Supreme Leader Snoke, R2-D2 and C-3PO are among those that will appear on the collection. Four of the stamps will have details in fluorescent ink that will only be visible under a UV light. The stamps will be on sale from October 12. Royal Mail issued another set in 2015 to mark the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
AFRICAN PYGMY HEDGEHOG FOUND ABANDONED IN LONDON UNDERGROUND…. The Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals rescued an African pygmy hedgehog that was found abandoned in England. Workers at the Edgware Road platform of the London Underground found the hedgehog alone in a hamster carrier and contacted animal collection officer Jill Sanders, who rushed to the rescue. "I was relieved that the little hedgehog was still alive as it was far too cold for him," Sanders said. "He was crammed into a tiny cage and must have been very disoriented and frightened." The RSPCA noted that the African pygmy hedgehog is "one of Britain's latest pet crazes," but does not believe they should be kept as pets. "Like many exotic animals, they have very specific needs, which relate to where they come from in the wild," the RSPCA said. "An African pygmy hedgehog's natural habitat is the semi-arid areas of central Africa and in captivity it would therefore require a heated enclosure." The hedgehog, which rescuers named "Paddington," was taken to a hedgehog caretaker in London, as the RSPCA searches for its owner. "It's not clear whether he's been abandoned or if his owner left him behind by mistake so if anyone recognizes him we'd urge them to get in touch by calling our appeal line," Sanders said.
