When poor kirsty thought the nightmare was over she was wrong. Frank cotton might not have been the only individual to escape hell and the only one not to have an interest in hell. Kirsty might not just have the escape the confines of her own guilt, the hospital but hell itself....... Hellraiser 2:Hellbound came out in 1988. This to me was the last true sequel to the Clive Barker classic. Despite there being many hellraiser movies this was true to Barkers vision, complex and dark. Whereas the later movies take the movies into basic slasher territory, simplifying the stories and declining in quality until it's barely recognisable. Hellraiser 2 doesn't surpass the first movie but it is a worthy sequel and helps to build on the world and mythos of the first movie. Doug Bradley yet again steals the show as the hellpriest both cold and articulate. Ashley Laurence as kirsty is brilliant and Claire Higgins is sinister as Julia. I love the dark fantasy element of the movie. The expansion which feels natural for the world. Hell is interesting and feels different to how you would expect but thats Good.
