I’m super new to collecting/ plushie collecting and I’m waiting for the giant dragapult plush to hit eBay after it’s released since its japan exclusive, any advice? :O

do nooooot use ebay, especially not for japanese pokeplush. ebay is best for western releases, especially retro ones!! it’s where i got one of my more rare arbok plush haha. but it is RIFE with bootlegs and knockoffs that clog search results, and so many of those bootlegs don’t take pictures of their bootlegs and just upload the official promotional photos so you have NO clue what you’re getting.

even when you find something genuine on ebay, the sellers often charge RIDICULOUS prices and claim it’s on account of import fees. i would avoid ebay for everything except VERY specific inquiries & western merch.

the two websites i used to use for preorders are japanstuffs and sunyshore pokemart, but they’ve since shut down due to covid-related postage restrictions from japan to the US ><

a cursory glance across PkmnCollectors brought me to HelloJapan which is apparently a similar website! at the moment preorders on all the dreepy variants seem to be completely sold out, but I would honestly just keep checking back as the window for preordering extends to January 5th. It says its out of stock til release day but I... don’t trust that lol. Pokemon loves money.

Some other advice I’d give is don’t be so sure it’s Japan exclusive. It’s only been announced in Japan as of right now, but it might be brought to the states later. Usually, betting on that I consider the pokemon’s popularity in america, because that’s how they decide to bring merch overseas. Dragapult I’d honestly say has a 50/50 chance, so keep your eye on press releases haha.

If you can’t manage a preorder the services I’d recommend are Zenmarket and PKMNCollectors. 

Zenmarket is my FAVOURITE website in the whole world, it combs Japanese auctions and allows you to bet on them through their proxy. The merch is shipped to their warehouse, and they then ship it directly to you. It is INCREDIBLY budget. People in Japan will sell their massive pokeplush for like 10 bucks, stuff you’ll find on ebay for 50. What I do is I copy the kana off the bulbapedia page for whatever pokemon I want to look up, and just scroll through looking at all the stupid cheap prices. The one thing is that shipping is calculated after your packages have been packed & weighed, so make sure you have some extra cash stashed away for that--they can vary, but the good news is Zenmarket lets you keep stuff at their warehouse free for 45 days before charging you. 

PKMNCollectors is a livejournal community full of reputable sellers/collectors! They can help you identify plush, point you to websites that will have what you’re looking for, group order with you, and middleman for you! There’s a chance, come release day, that someone might have the Dragapult in their possession, or have a better website you can use to check the preorders, or post news relating to restocks etc etc. 

This Dragapult is a bit of a gem because it’s so big and sought after, so your best bet is honestly to try to get it at its initial price on an import site like HelloJapan. I imagine once it hits the secondhand market it’s going to be going for twice as much, ehe.
