For The First Time, Part 1

Or: Ted Tonks has never liked his potions partner particularly well. She’s always seemed a bit, well, cruel and emotionless. But sometimes people can surprise you.

Ted is on his way to dinner when he hears muffled sniffling coming from a side corridor...

Ted: ‘Dromeda.

Ted: Not until you tell me why you’re sitting on a dirty floor, crying.

Ted: Again, ouch. And haven’t we talked about not saying that word?

Andromeda looks away, heaving a sigh.

Andromeda stares at Ted as he sits down, expression unreadable.

And no one says anything and he wonders if maybe this is one of those times he shouldn’t have followed his instincts.

Their only conversations literally involve Ted trying to convince her that he has a right to be at Hogwarts. That and, “Pass me that vial - no, the other one.”

They’re not friends - not even close. By all standards, he should hate Andromeda Black.

But she looks so sad.

Ted: No?

Andromeda: It made sense for us to be together. But there was never any passion. It never felt right. “Meant to be,” or whatever that bullshit is.
