Hello, Shelly! I wondered if you'd pop into my askbox, as I've seen you in a few others. It's nice to meet you. I hope you enjoyed your lurking, and that you will now enjoy your time not lurking!

I see you are a big kenric\oralie (pretend the slash is facing the other direction, normal forward slash kept turning into a percentage-like thing c/o) fan! I must admit I don't think of them very often myself, but there are at least a few in the fandom who love them, so I'm sure you'll be able to find things you like :)

But also yeah feminist lost that day, will forever be disappointed that Shannon had Oralie shed her pink and sparkles when things got serious. She should be able to hold onto those things, to be super opulent and pink and indulgent and serious and capable all at the same time! We had that for so long and then boom she took it away in one fell scene (a scene that took 10% of the book, I calculated).

I just keep wondering what was the point of it? What did we get out of that? Of Oralie having something more somber beneath her opulence and femininity? There's nothing wrong with her having variety and range, of wearing pants and black and not being constantly pink, but it accompanied what read as a dismissal and negativity towards her pink femininity. I don't have the book in front of me, so I can't review exactly how it was worded, but that's what I remember it being, the impression it left. And I just. Why! Why did we do that. The two don't have to be exclusive why did we make them so, Oralie can be powerful and enjoy pink, be opulent.

Anyway, distracted musings aside, the point of this is to say hello and welcome to the fandom! There's plenty of wonderfully talented people here, and we're always thrilled to interact with new people :)
