I love the Commedia Dell’arte so so much and whenever I explain it people expect me to use the Fatui Harbingers from Genshin to do so and then take psychic damage when I instead say “Have you ever watched the 1987 animated show Hello Kitty’s Furry Tale Theater? It’s basically the Commedia Dell’arte with Sanrio characters.”

If you could make a reboot of anything (Show,Movie,Anime, etc) What would you reboot?
Personally,I’d reboot Hello Kitty’s Furry Tale Theater. When I was little I had two DVD’s; Hello Kitty Saves the Day and Hello Kitty Plays Pretend. I would often use it as background noise when I played on my computer. The show was pretty good, reviews had it at 6.5/10 on IMDb and 7.2/10 on TV.com
The show even had Tara Strong as the voice actress for Hello Kitty (when I found out,my mouth was agape in astonishment) as well as Cree Summer as the voice actress for Catnip (the big green cat in the picture). Looking at that 80′s (This show was made in 1987 and ended in December of that year) visual style gives me so many memories.
The show had 13 episodes which had two stories in each of them, all of the characters would be casted in a fairy tale or story, giving it their own spin and spoof of it. Not just fairy tales like Snow White,Cinderella, etc but also stuff like Frankenstein,Knights of the Round Table (my personal favorite episode of the series),and heck even movies like Crocodile Dundee,Star Wars, and E.T. among others
If it did ever get a reboot,I would love to see what new things they would spoof, there’s a shit ton of possibilities! Frozen/The Snow Queen,The Little Mermaid,Rapunzel/Tangled,etc.
They could also add more Sanrio characters to the cast,Cinnamoroll,Kerropi,The Little Twin Stars,Dear Daniel, etc. Overall it deserves a reboot

1987: Dirty Pair
Dirty Pair is the obvious answer but this was actually pretty hard. 1987 was a baller year for anime:
Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise, Gall Force, Bubblegum Crisis, Devilman: The Birth, The Poem of Wind and Trees, Robot Carnival, friggin' Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater! Its nuts!
Dirty Pair comes out on top though, as they deserve. Yuri and Kei are just... They're just so good! They are fantasticly fun characters who have a great realistic relationship dynamic. The series is cheese cakey for sure but that's part of the charm. Contrary to how it may look to some, Dirty Pair is not a sleezy-gazey title handing out bimbos who can't, haha, do their job right so let's watch them flail and whine and pout inbetween shooting stuff. Naw.
The sex appeal of the series is all in the opposite of that assumption, its in Yuri and Kei’s goofy near constant teasing of one another while they competently (albeit messily) get their job done. Its in their individualized confidence and mutual friendship on top of professional security that sells sex in Dirty Pair. How little Yuri and Kei care about what others think while they vibrate in their own world makes for a giggly colorful synthy space romp of a franchise.
The skimpy pleather and space guns are a bonus.

okay. so
it's called Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater at it came out in 1987. It was produced by DIC and animated by Toei (of Once Piece, DBZ, Sailor Moon, Digimon, and Transformers fame??)
the voice cast is mostly Canadian-americans who haven't done much notable voice acting before or since, with three exceptions: 13 year old Tara Strong as Hello Kitty, 18 year old Cree Summer as Catnip (the sort of primary antagonist), and an uncredited 11 year old Fred Savage as Mouser who's on screen for maybe 3 minutes. girl what
the framing device is that Hello Kitty and friends run a theater and each episode is a play they're putting on- always a spoof of a well known fairy tale, folk tale or movie
it's notable that Hello Kitty was only made 13 years prior to when this was made. according to wikipedia, it's the first Hello Kitty TV show ever made and it might predate the first Hello Kitty movie?
this also explains why notable Sanrio characters like Keroppi, Badtz-Maru or even Dear Daniel don't show up like you may expect them to- because they didn't exist yet lmao
instead we get Hello Kitty, Tuxedo Sam, My Melody, Chip (who existed before this show but hasn't been in much), and Hello Kitty's parents and grandparents. they also made original characters for this show: Catnip, Fangora, and. Grinder. fitting perfectly into the Sanrio naming conventions
some examples of what the episodes are like: Little Red Riding Hood, but a western. Sleeping Beauty, but the curse is being unable to watch TV. Cinderella, but instead of a Ball it's a football game. Dracula, but the vampire drinks milk instead of blood. The Pied Piper, but it's a band that chases away a swarm of fleas. Need I go on
the whole series is on youtube btw
if I infodumped about an obscure 80′s Hello Kitty cartoon I got on DVD as a kid would anybody listen? might do it anyway tbh
