that's right it's @michellekyura back again with another faller blog this time of the other of her 2 ongoing fixations and the much more obscure one 😭 is this incredibly self indulgent? couldn't be more if it tried. im just here to have fun and cram the things i like into one singular thing!! i love these stupid little dudes like you wouldn't believe ... Their text will always be color coded. Blue = Tako, Purple = Maguro, Pink = Kani, Orang = /Ikura. Wasabi speaks solely in emojis to reference his unintelligible speech in the show. Their in-universe tag guide goes as follows: #pack attack! - all members, #queen crab raving - kani, #a text masterpiece - tako, #in tune thoughts - maguro, #super salmon speaks - ikura, and #hotheaded nonsense - wasabi. #pack answers - answered asks. Weekly Dev Update #1: Named!

Alrighty, so I've decided a weekly dev log will be what I'm going with to stop myself from spamming the tags with garbage posts.

They will still be as unintelligible as before, there's just going to be less of them. I'll post every Monday (since the deadline is a Tuesday), and I've actually made enough progress to feel proud of so far!

To start things off, I finally have a title and synopsis! ...Yeah, I started the project without one, sue me (this is a joke plz don't im broke). Say hello to:

Messier Mystes

Welcome to Messier’s Academy of Magic; where you can fulfill your dream of being a proper Mage! Making friends, learning all different kinds of spells, and exterminating the local monsters will ensure your time in this school is filled with wonder and fun.  But when strange dungeons begin to appear in the nearby forest, the path to your true destiny will finally open…

To discuss the game briefly, it's going to be a "Persona-like", AKA an RPG with lite social sim mechanics. I'm gonna have people to talk to, dungeons to run, and maybe some god killing.

As a treat.

Beyond that, tho, I have more! I've settled on what each Stat is going to do and have mostly finalized my Status Conditions (the list is done, I just have to work out what they do). And my Type Chart is done, along with the general vibe of each element and what kinds of Spells they'll have. The Spell List is next on the docket, so expect a teaser at that next week. I've also settled on an initial soundtrack and plugin list. They most likely aren't growing, but they might shrink depending on what happens in the future.

Last but not least, I have the basic setting and characters figured out! ...Yeah I really jumped head first into the mechanics before the setting. I had to or else I'd have never done it and dropped out. More on those in the future once the fine details are done, but I have enough of an idea on everything to begin writing. The party is "drafted" (translation: their roles and basic personality traits), but names and backstories are still baking in the oven. I think I'm starting to smell smoke, but I'm sure that's a good thing and supposed to happen. Enjoy this high quality picture of the Party List in the meantime:

Well, that's all I have for this update! Messier Mystes will definitely have a lot more premade assets than the competition (I am solo with no artist), but I'm hoping the gameplay and writing will allow me to shine regardless.

I have a bunch of OCs, and I'm writing so many (unfinished)books... Yeah, that's right. I like to suffer and die creatively TWICE!! I can not be helped. I'm just goofy like that sometimes. As someone who does art, if someone use your picture for things like making a collage or something related without giving you credit- either they know the picture is yours or they don’t know it’s yours -will you, let them? Like, will it be consider an insult and make you feel unappreciated? Just had something in mind...

What if instead of putting your name, they simply say “credits to the owners”, due to not knowing exactly are the owner of the drawing?

Will you feel offended, in any way?

hello, i hope you are having a nice day as well! 

tldr: if youre doing it for your own personal use (meaning you are the only one who sees it, and wont post online) then please feel free to do so. if you are posting this collage online, you can do so but please give credit, cause i drew the original image in the first place. please dont confuse this with me allowing reposts. i only allow my work to be used in collages, amvs, etc. because its someone turning my work into something new. theres creativity behind it. and dont even say “credit to the original owners” to me, it lights a raging fire in me that can compare to no other

and here is the longwinded explanation :D

for me, it all depends on whether the collage is for personal use or if its going to be reshared online. personal use means only you or some select friends/family  will see it. i know some people like to do collages for fun as a personal hobby and i think thats really cool and i would definitely allow my art to be used for something like that ^^! something like this will fall under personal use. using art as phone wallpapers also falls under this category (which is why you dont have to ask for my permission to use my stuff as wallpapers ^v^) because youre the only one seeing/using it!

of course, there are some people who use art for edits/amvs/collages that they post online like you said and i think thats great. i know i have no reposting in my bio, but for people who make these edits using others art, they are using their own creativity to make something new, with a work that i drew!!! i think thats super cool so of course i allow it. with. credit. im very thankful to the people who asked me for my permission first though, because it shows they care about the original artist ;v;. online, multiple eyes are seeing it and artists should be given credit when credit is due. reposting tho? no creativity at all. the laziest thing you can do to a piece of work. download image, upload to another site, post.

and i absolutely hate whenever i see “credits to the owner” because to me its the laziest and most disrespectful thing you can do to an artist. just the phrasing...irks me. like the person recognizes that they dont own the piece, the artist is the owner, and yet they are still reposting without permission. even a repost with no caption fills me with less rage than a “credits to the owner” so yes, i will be offended. please dont do that

and in some cases there is a watermark on the piece itself!!! clearly written!!! in plain view!!!! and yet people still write “credits to the owner”. like no, the owners name is clearly written on the watermark. plus it takes not even 5 minutes to put an image into a reverse image searcher and find the original artist. i have done this multiple times because yes, reposting without credit is really that common unfortunately and troublesome for people (me) who want to follow and support the original artists :/// my art has gotten reposted COUNTLESS of times with and without credit, and at this point ive given up on keeping track of and reporting them all cause theres just so many. im convinced i am aware of only 5% of all my art thats gotten reposted. 

so to me, as a person who has gotten my art reposted countless of times, saying “credit to the owner”, even though i have written in both of my account descriptions NO REPOSTING in all capital letters, and have watermarked most of my work, is very disrespectful. i remember when my work started getting reposted A LOT for the first time, and i would get super angry every time it happened, and that rage has fizzled out now but it still remains. i still hate reposting with a burning passion.

i understand theres the innocent kind of reposting where the person is like “this art is so cool! i want to share this with everyone i know!!” (i know cause i did this in the past when i was a stupid kid) and then theres the kind of reposting that tries to gain likes and followers...off of someone elses work. off of something that they have not even made or own. how do you tell the difference between these kinds of reposting? the second one will probably have 100 something tags in the description :/...how lazy could that be? to use someone elses work for your own personal gain. my work is my work alone. if you want to get big on social media, do it with your own work. period.

i know im not alone on this because there is not a single artist i have seen who allows reposts with no credit. (and some reposters have the gall to say theyve done nothing wronggg oooooooo how inconsiderate can they possibly be ooooo im gonna kick them) theres some artists who dont allow reposts at all, no matter what condition, and i completely understand because someones art is their intellectual property, im done.

in conclusion please be considerate to artists, we already got it rough as it is ;-; (sorry for the super long answer ;;;;)

how do you go about commissioning someone? i want to but i hear a lot of bad stuff every so often and ive seen you mention certain artists being behind on contact so im not sure what to expect

quite frankly commissioning someone is absolutely terrifying and needs to have a high level of communication from both the person you are commissioning as well as yourself. the one major artist i have said something about and to, turns out, have had a long history of disappearing for months at a time or not being good and running off with money. found out that after i finally got something from one of them, but the other who i’ve been waiting since january on a response from... im emailing every second week and @ ing on twitter constantly by this point considering it was an upfront payment. and like i said about the first one... if commissions are your primary source of income... there is a level of expectation. i know from social media the second one has been involved in a lot of public work and whatnot, which i do support, but all i need is one email to be like “hey sorry im busy with other work”. some people don’t tell you that. or you find out through their tumblr their laptop is broken. it can be very frustrating. or they run donation and commission sale posts in between not doing your commission. so...

and as for you the person commissioning i think people vastly underestimate what you need to provide vs what ppl actually do provide. if you have some specific pose in mind provide photo refs/explain it. you dont need to do a characters backstory, 3 pages, no line breaks. summarise. clear cut on colours and clothing. and if you leave it up to interpretation then you���re gonna end up with something you may have to be like hey sorry lets correct this, which wastes time and effort and money on everyone’s behalf. like spend time going through god like pinterest or whatever to actually source what it is you are looking for. you’d be amazed that people rly to appreciate it, and also esp when artists run limited spots, the ones that are actually providing references and so on are the ones that do get picked because it makes it easier to then provide a higher quality product. its not about remembering urls and favouritism that some people like to claim, its so that they can spend more time on something for you.

that said, commissioning someone and seeing something you have in mind come to life is brilliant. personally i do have a preference for commissioning friends, because well 1) communication (sophia is so good for it), 2) its so funny dropping into the dms like kicking down their door and throwing money at them to draw something for you (something i do to hoiist and daisy regularly) and 3) idk love and support friends!!! (always all of them) also with friends too i do ask people if theyre trying something out like animations, new painting style, etc. if they wanna test on my comm i dont mind because in some instances it also helps them like work out if they wanna use it as an offer on a comm yknow?

when it comes to artists (or writers in some instances) that you dont personally know, if i cant exactly find the information on their tumblr (which happens quite rarely but does happen) i just ask. what do they need. what do they want. also turnaround time. there are people out there with art/writing styles that you do adore, or something specific theyve done in the past you want to almost have recreated for yourself. talk to them! ask if they’re okay redoing like idk a deconstructed helmet or a watercolour tarot card or a 3k word third pov fic revolving around reconnecting 5yrs later (plummmmm).  but like too ask about payments, if you can potentially do half and half (a lot of artists are honestly open to this but you just have to ask), what are their routines like with providing sketches and changes (most tend to have information available on their tumblr but... still), etc etc. and dont be surprised if you ask for some heavy tattooing and jewellery and flowers that the price goes up? ive seen people be genuinely shocked like youre asking for heavy detail... hello.... but communication is key and its also on you to ask and tell the things you want and need.

as for writing commissions, personally, kind of almost in the same boat? if theres a particular scene, a visual reference helps to be like a guiding key to get to that point, but also specific words, like talking about hands, the colour purple. personally too with writing comms i have done, i do sometimes go and search for like oc tags for more visual stuff and then translate it to text. some of my favourite pieces have been exchanges more than commissions, with crashed-down through the dragon age pieces we’ve done, and utilising the tags there. also like i ask if you want the pov to follow someone specific, do you want first, second or third, any particular time of day, etc etc etc. like this does affect tone and flow. also with mine i offer snippets as i move through to see if the phrasing is right, am i doing something appropriate to the character/s, as with art you have the. pose and emotion in one position as such yknow? with writing its a movement and kind of links through it all. if like one sentence is off, the tone could be wrong, and changes everything.

also, if something is out of your price range, i have seen an upswing in people asking that just let someone know. inquire, work it out, but if its too much just politely turn it down. yes, emails get lost and tumblr is notorious for not flagging messages so there can be unintentional ghosting but yeah i think thats a good habit to get into.

tldr; dont be afraid to commission people, seriously, its very rewarding for everyone around. be polite, ask questions, keep on top of the communication. dont be an asshole, be clear about what youre after, be kind, enjoy

Ahh, thank you!!! It always gets me incredibly giddy and giggly whenever someone tells me that they enjoy the stuff I create!! For now I’ll write more in detail of how our first meeting went seeing as I’m not getting many creative ideas for him and I (also the fact that I’m gonna get to rewatching the anime so I can try to write Kara more accurately) 

It wasn't all too common for Shawn to be invited out to many places, seeing as he was either working at the video game store he got most of his income from or he was holed up in his apartment trying to complete a few commissions he was given every so often so, needless to say, his schedule wasn't the most intact, socially. So when his acquaintance Totoko came to pay him a visit while he was working, well, it was a pleasant surprise! And Shawn already knew that the girl had come for a reason, seeing as she didn't seem to be the type to be into video games, which meant that it had something to do with him. "Ah, um, hi Totoko! How's it going?" The girl simply replied with a sigh as she went over to the desk where Shawn was working as the cashier and leaned forward. "Um, what's the matter?" Totoko looked over at the boy and let out an even larger sigh, pausing for a moment before scrunching her brows together in frustration and stood up, "do you have anything going on this Friday?" Shawn looked over at his friend, confused, seeing the back of a customer take a look at some of the games being sold in the background. "This Friday? Not specifically. Why?" All he had planned for Friday was simply go to work until noon, eat lunch, maybe draw -large emphasis on the maybe- and that was about it. Totoko leaned her head against her head as she raised her other arm, twirling her finger around her hair as she spoke. "See, I have some... close acquaintances you could call them? And well, since I want to be famous, I need my friends to have larger social circles so more people will know me." Shawn glanced over to the customer behind her for a second, a series of doubts going through his mind.

It was moments like these where the guy remembered that the initial reason why Totoko first talked to him in the first place was because she thought that he was cute and with being cute meant that he had to be decently well-known on social media. That.. wasn't the case, as she came to learn within a couple of days of talking with Shawn and investigating his social media profiles. He looked back at her after watching the customer take a look of the back of one of the game boxes and return it on the shelf, wandering around once again. "Okay, so... you want to introduce them to me?" "Yeah, you get it!" Shawn paused for a moment as he thought, noticing the customer come up with a few boxes in hand. "Gimme a sec." He went over and put his focus on the customer, quickly scanning the items, and putting the game boxes into a bag, handing it over as he was given the money necessary and quickly went to put it in the cash register. "Have a nice day!" His customer-support smile immediately disappeared as the door closed behind him, turning back over to Totoko with a sigh. "You know what? Sure. What's the harm?" It's been a bit of a while since he last hung out with a friend, let alone make some new ones. Totoko stood up with a happy clap, "great! I'll text you the details later!" And with that, Totoko, pleased with the results, skipped out of the store with a happy hum. Shawn watched as she left, a single thought in his mind. "Couldn't she just invite me out with a text?"

It was now Friday afternoon, the ever-dreaded Judgement Day and Shawn was, honestly, a little more than nervous about this. Sure, he was calm and feeling pretty okay when he had initially accepted the invitation, but now the real questions were hitting him. What were these guys like? Would he even be able to get along with them?? He had already learned of a few answers to some other questions thanks to Totoko, such as the people he was going to be introduced to were 6 brothers, sextuplets to be exact. The initial discovery of this had Shawn quite surprised, mostly for the fact that he has never seen sextuplets before. He has met triplets in the past, but certainly not sextuplets so this would certainly be interesting. Another thing that he learned was that Totoko warned him that they were quite rowdy so there was that. Hopefully these guys weren't as rowdy as his classmates back in middle school, so if that line wasn't crossed, that issue won't be much for him. Fiddling with his crystal pendant on the necklace tied around his neck, he took one last look at the last message Totoko sent him, the address of the place they were going to be hanging out at, which in this case was a fairly cheap restaurant. "Smart." It was definitely one of the best places for Totoko to set up a meet-up, seeing as if they were in some open area, Shawn could easily escape by getting 'lost' within the crowds of people that may pass. Shoving his phone into his back pocket, Shawn let in a deep inhale and entered the restaurant, quickly spotting Totoko and the sextuplets he was going to meet. He froze in his spot for a second before Totoko glanced over and saw Shawn standing at the entrance, waving him over.

Totoko had already begun to introduce Shawn to the six as he walked over, hearing her say "Matsus, this is my friend Shawn. Shawn, these guys are Osomatsu, Karamatsu, Choromatsu, Jyushimatsu, Ichimatsu and Todomatsu." Shawn took a seat as five of the six greeted him with a mix of hellos, as he greeted back a bit nervously, "ah, hello..." He looked at the six, trying to make an effort on remembering their names and trying to find ways to differentiate between them when he looked over at Karamatsu, eyes widening with an "oh! It's you!" Karamatsu took a few moments of confusion to try to remember who he was. "You know Karamatsu?" Totoko asked, immediately being replied with a nod from Shawn. "Uh- yeah! A few weeks ago I ran into him and, uh, well, I asked if I could draw him!" Karamatsu's eyes widened as his memory caught up, letting out a surprised "oh!" before quickly regressing into his cool guy persona. "Ah, I-I see we met again! Heh, it must truly be the hands of destiny that have brought us together once again." The table cringed at his cheesy line, Osomatsu responding with a "painful!" as Shawn responded with a small chuckle and a shrug. "Maybe it is destiny! Who knows?"  With a smile, Shawn noticed as the waiter came over and asked what they would like to order, turning his attention over to try to order something quickly as to not waste the waiter's time, Karamatsu sitting there both speechless and dumbfounded, as this was the first time somebody had actually reacted in a positive way to the things he said.

"Shawn, didn't you think that was painful?" Totty asked as he pulled out his phone, looking through his social media as he made plans to take a selfie with his food. "Painful? Um, no? Why would I?" "Ah, it's because Karama-" Before Totty could go to insult his brother, Karamatsu quickly interjected, "ah, Shawn, if you don't mind me asking, what do you do most of the time? When you're not spending time with people like my wonderful brothers and I?" Shawn looked over, taking a moment to think, "Ah, well, I draw most of the time!" Karamatsu posed, putting a hand under his chin with a pensive smirk on his face. "Heh, so you're an artist too, I see! I am not one for the arts when it comes to painting, but I am a master of the arts when it comes to music." Shawn's eyes lit up as he heard the mention of music. "Really? What, um, what instrument do you play?" "Heh, well, since you asked so kindly... I have a passion for the guitar~" Shawn let out a more than interested hum, "the guitar's always a classic! I never had the chance to be able to learn how to play it myself, but maybe in the future, hehe." Shawn felt the conversation between Kara and him die and quickly went to remedy it, refusing to accept any awkwardness to come in and take it's place, turning to take a look at the sextuplets with a smile as he went, "ah, right, if you guys ever happen to run into me, I'll be more than happy to hang out during that time!" "Heh, I'll be sure to spend some quality time with you if we happen to run into each other once more, dear Shawn." Shawn couldn't help but smile at Kara's response as the others responded with varying levels of energy, turning to face Karamatsu. "Well then, I can't wait!"
