Any horror movie recs? I really like found footage stuff but it’s hard to find good ones without them being like super corny, but really any genre is good as long as it serves it’s purpose to scare me

9 People You Want to Get to Know Better
Thanks for the tag, @ambiguouspuzuma! (Their answers are here)
current book you're reading: I just finished reading How to Keep House While Drowning and I can't recommend it enough. It's not fiction, but if you struggle with keeping up with care tasks while also dealing with mental health concerns or neurodivergence, it's SUCH an amazing, easy read.
last song you listened to:
currently watching: Just finished watching the movie, The Endless, which is one of my favorites. If you like weird indie horror, definitely check it and its prequel, Resolution, out. Now, I have Youtube up and I'm listening to the Mythical Kitchen podcast, A Hotdog is a Sandwich.
current fic you're reading: Work has been intensive enough the past few weeks that I'm behind while I wait for my brain to recover, but I have @pandoras-comment-box's Halloween fic bookmarked for reading as soon as the ol' noggin comes back online again.
next on my watch list: I'm still not totally out of the Spooky Season Horror Movie Binge mood, but don't have a particular movie in mind. Maybe continuing to re-watch the Hellhouse LLC franchise. But I also have plans for a nostalgic trip down the entirety of Rurouni Kenshin, and if I'm honest, my evergreen comfort show Letterkenny (and recently also its spin-off, Shoresy) is probably getting its millionth play-through, depending on my mood at the time.
current hyperfixation: Sunset is always top of the hyperfixation list. Additional hyperfixations include, a new fluff OC named Cicero, and also Letterkenny.
-
Gently tagging some folks I feel like I've been too anxious (lolol) to get to know-- that being said, feel free to ignore this tag if you're not into it and just consider it a lil' hello. @kaiusvnoir @winterandwords @junypr-camus @void-botanist @camillenrose and open tag because I'm starting to blank on who is open to tag games.

What's your favorite movie/TV show/book/comic/podcast to watch/read/listen to, and what's your favorite to create content for?
I cycle through a number of them.
Currently I am on a Star War kick, with a mild fixation on CodyWan for my fanfics. Before that I believe it was Klave with Umbrella Academy and Good Omens Aziraphale and Crowley. I also love twisting various canons with weird crossovers (I have a part series on AO3 that include no less than 5 different crossovers)
For watching/background noise I love the Law & Order's, the various CSIs, Murder She Wrote, MASH, Leverage, and the reality contest show Face Off. The variety of CSI's have the distinction of holding the majority of the canon het ships that I enjoy (two particular favorites are Sara/Grissom from the original CSI and Danny/Lindsey from CSI:New York).
For movies, I tend toward horror movies. Current Favorite is the Hellhouse, LLC series tied with the Hellraiser series.
thank you for asking.

THISSSSSSSSSS I LOVE HELL HOUSE LLC SO MUCH. This is THE found footage/mockumentary horror I recommend to people whenever they need a recommendation for that genre or also like, in general. Genuinely freaked me out which is hard to do so that's saying something, absolutely crazy, FUCK those clowns, those piano notes haunt me. What else. I can't remember if I recommended it to my sister or vice versa but my sister LOVES all the Hell House movies. I like when horror leans more towards being realistic when the plot centers around "something odd happened" so everything being paranormal still takes me slightly out of it but fuck if that scene where the guy goes around filming and finds the clown standing at the top of the basement stairs doesn't get me every time. the 4th one came out recently on Shudder and that one was SOOO GOOD 2 and 3 I wasn't wholly crazy about but the new one was really good I thought. OG Hell House LLC is where it's at though I adore her she's amazing showstopping stunning never been done before never been seen before groundbreaking that is THE found footage horror movie of all time

I'm so glad Hellhouse LLC III is more in line with the original. The original is just chef's kiss! But the second felt too goofy, and poorly acted. So glad I decided to revisit Hellhouse LLC, and that Shudder has the whole series. 🥹🥹🥹

There's so much better horror out there. Just, on a base level, there are so many better stories to be told than "Formula where everyone dies horribly except one traumatized woman who's only character growth has been torture and then the monster dies but then the monster doesn't die."
And I get there I get there can be artistry in the chaos. There is fun in that hand-in-a-bowl-of-peeled-grapes-on-no-it's-eyes spectacle. As a huge fan of practical effects, let me assure you, you can do practical effects amazingly and not have to force people to marvel at how realistic you made the scene where you sawed through a woman's pelvis. Hellraiser has an amazing scene where a dude un-melts out of the floor. The Thing has terrifying anatomy that makes you think "Yeah for sure, that Thing's not human." Even Tucker and Dale versus Evil knows how to use the uncanny valley of realism to make you laugh at a woodchipper accident.
The higher your body-count, the less death means anything. And the less death means anything, the less I'm invested on what happens to anyone. Or, honestly, if I'm still invested, I'm not rooting for the humans. And that can be fun, if you're doing it on purpose! The indie game Carrion is based entirely around this premise, and it is a blast. But friends, it's really hard to base a story around this. And if I'm just just watching someone bang dolls together for 90 minutes, I have better things to do.
And if you just like the inevitability of it, there are great ways to do that without the bluntness of feeding humans into an unstoppable blender. It Follows, The Mist, His House, Hellhouse LLC, Oculus, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, those are just the ones I can name off the top of my head. Turns out "Guys, i don't think we're getting out of this" is a theme you can attach emotion to, too.
Anyway. If this gets more than five notes I keep the rant up. Otherwise, just know I voted "No."

My week in movies!
All fun films with the exception of The Gallows act 2 don’t bother with this at all its so bad.
The Monster and Girl on the 3rd Floor are slow burn and a little more art house, they needed some tighter editing and Girl needed some better acting. They are interesting watches with good ideas just needed a little more to really bring the concepts together.
Childs Play remake is a complete guilty pleasure, its not great but I can’t help like it and find it fun and I love the song and the music.
Outbreak was a re watch of a classic film that I loved and thought with the current climate I’d watch again. Still love this film even though it goes weirdly action movie at the end
Hellhouse 3 is great much better than the 2nd though never matching the 1st. Its such an underrated found footage franchise but one of the best. I love these films.
He Never Died is a black comedy horror/thriller that I adored and it just hit the spot for some gruesome violence and a weird protagonist that you just can’t help but like with a quirk of the supernatural.
Crawl was way better than it had any right to be, was expecting silly gator b movie but got a tense movie that made me jump, gasp and pretty much spent most of the film panicking. It was some edge of your seat fun with some very unbelievable moments that your forgive because its just such a tense and enjoyable watch.
