For as much as I love Doom, I think we can all agree that modern Doom's writing is a bit of a dumpster fire of questionable choices and TAG especially so. So,

I'm gonna play Dark Ages when it comes out, and probably even enjoy it, too, but boy, do I have next to no faith that they're not gonna somehow totally screw over the story they themselves already established...

I just caught up with ep 63 and I'm fucking vibrating. The difference of the Bor'dor reveal and the Dusk reveal! Dusk spending their entire time with the party stirring up drama, once caught out still openly provoking and trying to find an angle to straight up kill Fearne's parents, and the party still struggling to find every reason to let them go, let them live. And Dusk never gave a shit. Why would they! They were a fey assassin! And still the Hells fought and argued for them and let them walk away despite openly remaining a threat.

And then we get Bor'dor, wet paper tissue of a man, tragic backstory up to the gills, genuinely spending time to bond with them, having his little practice session with them being his proudest moment, sharing vulnerabilities. And though he drew first blood, he did it trying to run away, not kill! He did it having seen these people murder his friends and drag their dead bodies out of the hole! He was helpless on the ground, all but begging them to end him because he saw no reason to keep going! There was enough turmoil and doubt in him that he could probably have been deradicalized! He hated them but he loved them too!

And had this been early campaign, in all likelihood they would have let him live. But this is a Bell's Hells who have already been betrayed once by an ally, who lost Eshteross to the Ruby Vanguard, who lost half the fucking party to the Ruby Vanguard, who went on a grueling journey to get Laudna back, who struggled and struggled and still failed to stop Ludinus and ended up separated and scared and not knowing whether the world is about to end or not, whether their friends are alive or not.

And they were done. They did not fight for him. This is war. Were Dusk to show back up now, I doubt they’d survive the encounter.

I recognize that this mostly happens because Obi-Wan is and always has been a direct foil for Anakin, but I am SO tired of all of Obi-Wan's more canon love interests ending up being more about making commentary on Anakin and Anidala than they are on exploring OBI-WAN. It's just sad and I'm so tired of it and I think that until people are willing to write a romance for Obi-Wan that isn't actually about Anakin at all, Obi-Wan should just be made off-limits for romance plot lines entirely. Leave the man alone, please, I am begging you.

Like i said it felt really tropey and by that i meant that it’s just Everything Good Happens forever and…..that’s it ? like idk we were building up to this huge catharsis sort of thing and then we got to it and it was so sudden and not a good payoff and just kind of nothingburger of an ending . the fact that everyone just forgives siffrin bothers me, or at least the fact that they don’t confront them about the shit they’ve said and done. call me a mental illness villainizer but i think if you’re a fucking asshole and doing the most insensitive things to the people you care about then hey, i think those ppl have a right to fucking tell you off for it. likeeee idk being at your lowest point …… not an excuse …. not feeling it chief ……. like sure the message is to move past your mistakes or whatever but ? that doesn’t mean just getting away with it ??? and i just really don’t understand Why everyone forgives him. honestly at the end of the day the ending is just one problem, the root of which are the characters. everyone feels like trope cardboard cutouts. oh, this is the smart one. this is the smol bean. this is the himbo. and they all care for each other btw. Did u hear that? they all care for each other. we’re not really going to explain to you why these people are so close or what they went through together but just trust me man they’re sooo found famy. like …. okay. i’ve played 30 hours of this game and not once did i buy that any of the characters really cared about each other. like??? why???? You’re telling me everyone super cares about siffrin even though they barely know them?? you’re telling me siffrin cares about everyone sooo much even though he never even bothered to find out their problems before ? Wat ? and this just breaks the ending more because literally whyyy do these people care about him so bad. and then it’s just whyyy does siffrin Have to tell them anything he doesn’t even seem to know them that well. everyone feels like colleagues and Just Friends at best. and so the ending just seems really forced. like it was written by that type of tumblr user who’s always talking about aww why does the found family have to break up after the end of the journey :( which is like fiiiiine. i guess. but u guys know that u have to build up to it right?? you can’t just tell me they’re Family Members(tm) 102829 times and that they super care about each other source: trust. you can’t just do that and then expect me to believe it ….. It feels unearned. the ending feels unearned and i don’ttttt understand what i’m supposed to take away from it . that it’s ok to fuck people up because you’re traumatized and insecure?? that you have to talk about your deepest problems with people you barely know??? i just dont know. Like i said if im being honest the problems with this game’s writing are more than just the ending, it just stands out so much because there’s a lot of build up and then just …… That

I finally finished Silent Hill 2 Remake and it was FANTASTIC. The Labyrinth was by far the scariest level, and probably my favorite. I got so scared that I gave myself a headache when a Certain Enemy popped up to say hello and chase me through a corridor. Other than that, the game was just beautiful. Graphically nice, sure, but the design of the town as a whole was what really stood out to me. Silent Hill looked so much like a well-lived in, recently abandoned town. It felt so realistic but so uncanny at the same time, which is how Silent Hill SHOULD be.

The final level was just. Perfection. It cut a perfect contrast between lovely place you’d visit on vacation and OH GOD I DON’T WANT TO BE HERE. And with that last transition into the Otherworld—I wish I could have explored the area a little more. It was so quiet and somber. The perfect conclusion to all the wild shit you just spent the last 20 hours wading through.

The story is still as great as it ever was, but I really loved the changes to the voice direction and acting. It lost some of the dreaminess from the original but substituted it with a genuine sense of These People Are Not Okay. Angela’s scenes were heartbreaking and intense, especially with her boss fight. Eddie’s boss fight was kind of a pain in the ass, but that’s more on my lack of skill than anything. But as a character, Eddie’s character progression was really well done. His last appearance was so sinister.

I can’t wait to jump into a new game +. I think this time I’m going to try the harder puzzle difficulty, because none of them gave me much trouble. But if you’re still on the fence about playing this, you really oughta go for it. It was fantastic, and I hope its reception and success encourages Konami to try and remake some of the other early titles. I’m super eager to play SH3.

Imagine how insane it must be for Vera's daughter to grow up and slowly learn about the events that transpired around her birth and how the people in her family all know each other.

Picture being Grace; you've grown up knowing your mum and dad get along well as friends, but they aren't in love like your Aunties Franky and Bridget are. You know that they all met each other at Wentworth, the prison that your parents had once worked at (which your mum also used to be the boss of apparently). It's only when you're a bit older than they tell you Aunt Franky didn't used to work there - she was a prisoner there (you had actually guessed this was the case a year ago, but were glad they thought you were old enough to stop pretending otherwise).

As the years go by you realize your mum doesn't seem to have many friends that she hasn't met through working at said prison. It would probably concern you, but she seems content to spend her free time with you, your aunts, your dad, and the occasional visit from her old friend Will (apparently he was around a lot during your first years, but has since moved out of town bc of reasons).

You're not surprised to discover your mum's secretly a bit of a bad ass - I mean, she did run a prison after all - but finding out that she gave birth to you during a prison siege was definitely a shock. You think that's got to be the worst memory she has at that place, only to discover a year later that she was inside the prison when a bomb went off, killing several people including an apparent old friend of hers. Yet, for some reason, you still don't quite believe her when she says that was definitely her worst experience had at Wentworth.
