Chimney Rock Lost: Hurricane Helen’s Destruction of a Beloved Landmark
Chimney Rock was more than just a landmark—it was a symbol of North Carolina’s beauty, a testament to time, and a beacon of memories for countless families who visited its towering heights. But now, after the wrath of Hurricane Helen, that symbol lies in ruins, forever altered. The iconic stone formation, which had stood proudly for millions of years, has been reshaped by nature’s unforgiving…

Those in italics have five or more pieces of usable visual, written, or audio propaganda already. If you have any visuals like photos or videos, or if you have something to say in words, submit it to this blog before round one begins on June 25th!
If you don't see a name you submitted here, it's because most or all of their career was as a child/they were too young for the cutoff, their career was almost entirely after 1979, or music was something they only dabbled in and are hardly known for. There are quite a few ladies on the list whose primary career wasn't "recording artist" or "live musician," but released several albums or were in musical theater, so they've been accepted.
#long post#miss billboard tourney#i wasn't originally going to list them all but i decided to do so because there are so many without propaganda

Almighty (Leo Valdez xFem!Oc)
A/N: Leara being sickening is my favorite thing in the world -Danny Words: 2,025 Series' Masterlist Previous Chapter // Next Chapter Listen to: 'BIRDS OF A FEATHER' -by Billie Eilish
XXXVII: Girl Talk! *Guttural Screaming*
Once the night comes, Ara talks with Calypso and Leo on the rooftop. She stands before them, no longer stressed about what she'll say. "Your journey ends here. We all know it even if we don't want to admit it."
Calypso smiles hesitantly. "I like it here." She looks at Leo, who's not smiling. "But Leo can't stay when you're on the move, all you wanted was to be together—"
"Because I thought he'd be happier, now I see I was wrong. He'll be better if he stays."
"Why don't you stop talking as if I'm not in the room?" He raises a brow. "I can speak for myself, ladies."
"Speak, then," Ara shrugs.
Leo opens his mouth, looking like he has a counterargument, but nothing comes. His brow furrows. "Well, so what if I like it here?" He says, sounding childish. "I also like it at camp, and I love you! Calypso can stay, she'll have fun with the garden and Jo can help her with her magic—and having people around won't let her miss the island, but me? I'm good on the run, Sunshine."
"You're tired, Leo," she retorts tenderly. "You've been carrying the weight of this quest for a whole month, and this isn't what you came back to life for."
"Cal, can you give us a moment?" Leo requests, his voice strangely steady.
"I'll give you the night," she squeezes his shoulder gently, then reaches for Ara's hand, "thank you for bringing me here. And Leo..." she looks at him with understanding. "You risked your life just to get me out of Ogygia—a friend like you is rare, and you can always count on me."
"Thanks, Cal." Once the girl leaves, he runs a hand over his face and sighs. "Listen, Arae... You know this don't come easy for me, and it sounds like the same over and over, but it's not. It is, but different—"
"Take your time," Ara guides him to sit on a nearby bench.
He sits and repeatedly taps "I love you" in Morse code on his knee. "When I met you, you wouldn't look at me for longer than a second unless I was doing some cool, Hephaestus-like thing. You liked me for my skills—I had only been called a good-for-nothing delinquent thanks to them before I met you..." His hand laces with hers. "A part of me felt I was just another boy that came to help you learn something about yourself and would eventually dissolve into nothing like..."
"Michael?" She offers softly.
Leo lowers his gaze. "There is so much about you that doesn't need me... Chiron was right, romance is a distraction—And I'm selfish because I know it and I still cling to you and tell you I love you."
Ara squeezes his hand. "You're so wonderful—look at what you've accomplished! And I love you just as much as you love me, but we're not Helen and Paris, we're more than just a good couple, and I think we owe it to ourselves to find out what we can do without curses forcing us to speed-run our lives."
Leo cleans his nose with the back of his free hand. "Just my luck... Meeting a hot girl, then getting dumped once she's not forced to be with me."
"I'm not—"
"I know, I just—"
"I'm not dumping you," she clarifies. "On our first date, you told me 'I don't do slow', and that's why we're here. We ran through every first without enjoying them because we were too busy trying to reach the next step, and we don't even know where we want to go."
"We haven't done all the firsts," he points out. "But I get it."
Ara gifts him a smile. "Knowing that we'd like to be together forever isn't enough to make it work. I don't even know if I'll even grow old!"
"Man, that's the worst part," Leo runs a hand over his face once more. "If I felt sorry just for myself, that would be nothing new. I'd sit my ass and wallow in my misery knowing I'd survive it, but your fate? That's what's got me stressing—heck, I can't even begin to list all the ways the fates are screwing with you."
Ara stares at him plainly. "Thanks."
"Sorry," Leo says offhandedly. "But it's true. You gave your 100%, and they were like—Actually, you've got some left. Hand it over!"
"Well, I wanted everything I could get, and when you want everything..." Ara shrugs, her palms facing skyward. "You gotta give up all. I can't be the best and have a life."
"No life at all?" Leo asks, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her close. "Are you really going to let yourself die?"
Ara kisses his forehead. "No. What I did for Georgie and Lit..." she blushes with pride. "I think stuff like that would be worth all the thousand other terrible things immortality brings."
Leo feels himself breathing for the first time in days. "Good. I'll burn juicy offerings for you tonight," he kisses her neck. "What do you want?"
"From you? Cash only—or kisses, if you're feeling generous," she retorts playfully.
The boy grins approvingly. "You're my favorite Olympian already." He pecks her on the lips. "You know, I know we're not them... but I think Paris was right to start a war over Helen. People just don't get the vibe nowadays."
Ara laughs, which is all Leo ever truly wants out of life.
"I'll go find Cal so we talk to Emmie and Jo, tell them we're staying," Leo says as they reach the living area. "I'd tell you to sleep well, but..."
Ara kisses him softly. "Have a good night, I'll finish Festus for you."
"You're an angel," he mumbles before kissing her again.
When the boy leaves, Ara goes to the bronze dragon, crouching and opening a panel to ensure his wings aren't loose. While she's working, someone speaks over her, where the griffins' nests are. "Not tired?"
"Oh!" Lester's voice comes out shaky when he finds himself alone with Jimmy. "Um... Nah."
"You should try to sleep. The challenge you face tomorrow... I cannot imagine."
"I can," Ara whispers. "I've had this kind of night for years on end..." She could make her presence known, but as a former Aphrodite, hearing Lester make a fool of himself in front of a crush is far more entertaining. Also, Jimmy's voice is so nice and smooth that she could listen to it all day without a single thought in mind.
"Oh, I don't sleep much. I used to be a god, you know." Lester tries to flex. "And you? Are you a demigod?"
"An interesting word. I would say I am e·lo·mìíràn—one of the others. I am also a graduate accounting student at Indiana University."
Ara pauses at that, she didn't know he was old enough to have graduated, that means he's gotta be about the same age as Beckendorf if he and Silena had lived... the thought makes her a weird mix of happy and sorrowful.
"But Sssssarah said you worked for Commodus?" Lester continues. "You're a gladiator?"
"Not a gladiator. I only fight on weekends for money. Mixed martial arts. Gidigbo and Dambe."
"I don't know what those are."
A little laugh escapes Jimmy, though his chuckles are just as grave as his natural voice. "Most people don't. They are Nigerian martial-art forms. The first, Gidigbo, is a wrestling style of my people, the Yoruba. The other is a Hausa sport, more violent, but I like it."
"I see... You fight for money?"
"To pay my tuition. I did not know what I was getting into with this emperor person."
"And yet you survived... You can see that the world is, uh, much stranger than most mortals realize. You, Jimmy, must have lots of ìgboyà."
Jimmy laughs more, and Ara sees the reflection of Lester's soul light hitting Festus's surface. "Very good. My name is actually Olujime. For most Americans, Jimmy is easier."
"Well, Olujime. I'm pleased to meet you. We are lucky to have such a defender."
"Mmm. If we survive tomorrow, perhaps the Waystation can use an accountant. A piece of real estate so complex... there are many tax implications."
"Uh—"
"I am joking," he says, sounding amused. "My girlfriend says I joke too much."
Oh.
"Uh," Lester speaks, he sounds like he's about to throw up. "Your girlfriend. Yes. Will you excuse me?"
Ara hears his steps hurrying away and pulls herself out from Festus's ribcage, she looks up and finds Jimmy staring at the corner where Lester vanished with slight confusion. "You have to excuse my buddy," she speaks up, "he's acting like this whole thing isn't freaking him out, but he's barely holding on. A former god turned mortal, now that contains many tax implications, don't you think?"
Jimmy smiles in greeting. "General."
"I noticed you're not sleeping either," she pulls up one knee and leans on it, still holding a wrench in her hand. "Nervous?"
"Concerned," he admits. "For the well-being of this place. What you said today is true, it would be a pity to lose it, there aren't many spaces for people like us."
"People like us?" Ara raises a brow, but she's smiling. "But you and I are not quite the same, are we?"
"I asked that hunter about you, this Thalia Grace, and she seemed to know you well," he confesses. "All you've done for your people, the losses you've faced... We may not come from the same place, but you want what's best for everyone, and therefore I will follow you."
Ara's mind goes to something of less importance for the greater good, but far more pressing to her current situation. "You said you have a girlfriend?"
"She studies in Washington," Jimmy replies, his soul light a rich shade of jade.
"So long distance," Ara nods thoughtfully. "Can I ask you about her?"
The young man looks surprised that a girl like her is interested in his love life, but he agrees. Maybe Thalia mentioned she was born a daughter of love. "You can."
"What do you do when you miss her?" She asks, reaching for a dirty cloth to clean the stains off her wrench. "When nothing goes well, and she's far, and you can't reach her."
"I think of the good things," he responds, "good memories. Her laugh, our most recent call, or our dates."
"And when that's not enough?" She continues. "Like when Commodus locked you in that cell and you didn't know if you'd ever see her again, and you had no way to contact her. What was in your mind?"
Jimmy ponders. "On those days, I would simply talk to her in my head."
Ara stares at him. "But she didn't know you were doing that."
"She didn't know I was in danger either, so I was the only one who needed comfort," he replies wisely. "Sometimes looking after oneself is enough."
Ara lets out a scoff, looking down at her grimy hands. "I hear that a lot when people tell me what happiness is to them. Enough. They tell me they have enough friends, activities, or plans to keep them satisfied for a lifetime. I sit there thinking—what is enough? I've never had it."
"Is that why you became a General?"
"I wanted to prove others that I was capable of great things."
"And once you prove it, what is left for you?"
"That's still to be discovered," she gets up with a grunt. "But I've seen many people give everything for the safety of others, just like me..."
"And where are they now?"
"Dead."
"So when I steal it's bad, but when you steal it's all good?" Ara crosses her arms as she glares at the Mercedes Leo got for them.
"Hey, first of all, this isn't stolen, it's borrowed. You gotta bring it back within 24 hours or we're cooked. So you better avoid cops." He wraps his arms around her waist. "Second, it isn't free. It'll cost you five smooches."
Ara leans in, pressing five quick, gentle kisses on his lips while giggling. Lester clears his throat behind them before sliding into the car. "Better get going."
Meg fist-bumps Leo before sliding into the backseat. "Good luck."
"Yeah, you too. Look after my girl, won't you?"
"Yeah."
Leo kisses Ara's cheek and mumbles against it. "Pointless to ask you to be careful, huh?"
Ara moves away, giving him a look. "How about 'Come back on time to crush lame-old 'Modus butt'?"
He smirks, pulling her into a kiss one last time. "See you."

Girl
Under the cut because spoilers!
Fred: Because she's a damsel in distress? When it comes to a bird with a wing down, you've got s blind spot a mile wide. It'll be your undoing.
BAM, FRED. If that isn't a prophecy, I don't know what is.
This isn't one of my favourite episodes, but it's satisfying enough.
Morse meets Strange and, as per custom, is incredibly rude right off the bat.
Morse meets Bright and immediately becomes a Heckin Frustration. I really loathed Bright and it's amazing to think if this is the only episode you watched, you'd never change your mind.
Max is trying to get on with Morse even tho they ad a rough start. I expect he feels bad about Morse's fainting spell and wants to make it up to him.
Morae types the Name That Must Not Be Mentioned!!!! As you might guess from my header image I don't find this exciting at all.
Best of all, Morse gets Bobby back where he belongs. Who knows better than Morse does how much a child needs its mother?
Two questions.
1. Do you think Helen suspected who Bobby's father was?
and
2. Did Morse take Pamela to bed?
I'm undecided about both. My initial gut reaction to 2 is no he didn't, because that's out of character. But she is in bed in her nightgown when he's reading to her and the weird cheek kissing thing they do when Pamela boards the bus at the end also feels out of the ordinary for Morse.

The Immortal Twins
Note: I am not an expert. I've just read too many books.
If you were ever regrettably into Homestuck* or possibly The Hunger Games, you've probably heard of Castor and Pollux (together, Polydeuces or the Dioskouroi), the demigod twins of the constellation Gemini.

Twin brothers to Helen (of Troy) and Clytemnestra, who were twin sisters, and all born of the mortal Leda and two fathers, a Spartan king and Zeus (don't ask, usual Zeus-related shenanigans involved). Speaking very very generally because of course sources are contradictory, Pollux was Zeus's son and thus immortal, while Castor was the king's son and mortal. Nevertheless, they were always together, usually getting into trouble. Even as adults, they were inseparable.

Then came the day they got into too much trouble and Castor was badly wounded. Pollux killed the man who injured his brother, but could do nothing for Castor himself, who was dying - and once he did, he'd be in Hades, where immortal Pollux couldn't follow him. So Zeus, keeping an eye on his son, gave Pollux a choice. His divine heritage entitled Pollux to live on Olympus... or he could give half his immortality to his brother.
Obviously Pollux chose the latter and the twins became the constellation Gemini. Also divided their time between Hades and Olympus, but stars is the point. They give aid to the shipwrecked.
Knives, naturally, has found a way to ruin it.
English translation of the lyrics in the closing song:
Your light... If that light never changes And continues to shine high above the sky Even when I'm lost, even when I'm struggling I'll continue to search for you Even on days of sickness or sadness I'll open the window to a new morning I'm moving forward, I'm standing still Tell the people who are praying But today this flower before me is praising you My song is a song of joy and wishes Yes, I'm reaching out But you're too high up in the evening stars But today this flower before me is praising you My song is a song of joy and wishes Yes, I try to reach out But you're too high up in the evening stars

The song in the credits is from Knives's point of view. He's believes himself to be the immortal twin, and he wants his mortal brother with him among the stars, sharing his immortality.
Sounds sweet! It's such a soft and gentle song. Maybe a little, uh, fixated, but hey, he's an intense guy! It's... possibly also strange that he thinks of his adult brother as a child even after (checks notes) a century and half but you know, childhood leaves a strong impression on a person -

...Oh.
And that's why the 'welcome home' Morse code is weird.
* I don't want to talk about it.

You don't have to answer this, but I was curious.. What are some of your general headcanons for the creeps? Nothing romantic or anything like that, just headcanons you have for the creeps.
ah. i have... so many, to be honest with you. but i can share a few!! these are just my own personal headcanons that sometimes influence how i write certain characters so! here you go. gotta put it under a cut bc idk how long this'll be and also i needed to include a photo bc i am terrible at describing things. ignore the numerous liu headcanons i'm so normal about him, i promise.
the mansion itself is a living being in my mind. it's an entity that exists, that just one day appeared within the forest slenderman resides in. think... monster house and the house from encanto. it's a living being, it has its own thoughts and it can only convey those thoughts to a very small handful of people.
continuing on, the mansion isn't a place where people live, the only people who can stay there permanently are ben and sally, as well as any animal such as smile dog and grinny cat. everyone else uses the mansion more as a safe house more than anything else.
it/its slender.
jeff has a pretty bad fear of fire, though he does a very good job at hiding it.
jeff, ben, and eyeless jack are a found family in my mind. they all deeply care for each other and would burn the world to ash to keep each other safe.
liu, sully, helen, and nurse ann are also a tightly-knit group of friends. i can't explain why, they just are.
liu and jeff know morse code. they learned it before everything happened so they could communicate with each other without the people in their community knowing what they're talking about. they still use it from time to time, though it's a lot less friendly
bouncing off the last one, jeff taught eyeless jack and ben morse code.
and liu also taught nurse ann morse code so she can communicate with him without forcing herself to speak.
liu has nightmares at least once a month.
liu is an arsonist. burned his home down elric brothers style. he carries a lighter with him everywhere and finds fire to be very captivating.
liu uses a gun as his go-to weapon. it puts a distance between him and anyone he needs to harm; it keeps the blood off of his hands in a physical sense. he doesn't kill if he doesn't have to, and most of the lives he's taken have been in self-defense.
meanwhile, sully uses a knife. likes getting up close and personal when he's about to cause someone harm. he's the one who does the killing. he kills people willfully. the blood will always be on his hands.
sully thinks cannibalism is Very romantic and honestly wouldn't mind partaking in it but liu thinks cannibalism is a big no no, so alas. no cannibalism for him.
sully is a hatsune miku fan.
okay i'm not really sure how to explain this one but. i imagine eyeless jack can only see like... white outlines. you know the uh. black paper scenes from omori.
like this. this is how i imagine jack sees things.
nina and jeff have a love-hate relationship. one moment, they get along pretty well and the next, they're at each other's throats.
liu has basically adopted sally as his little sister.
sally has a diary full of her first impressions, current impressions, and tea party experiences of each and every creepypasta that has visited the mansion.
not really a headcanon but slender does Not like children. it took it months to warm up to sally and ben, and it took it even longer to become a parental figure to sally.
slender and zalgo are besties. idc what anyone says, in my mind, they meet up once a month and discuss random things while sally and lazari play together.
liu will never forgive jeff. i could go on and on about how liu hates jeff and how jeff just wants to be a family again and how that will never be able to happen but that's not the purpose of this so i shall withhold myself.
the jeff, nina, jane, liu dynamic. let's discuss it. jeff and nina are frenemies. jane despises jeff. nina doesn't really like jane but doesn't hate her. jane ignores nina's existence more often than not. liu doesn't hate nina or jane, but he doesn't interact with them. jane hates liu. nina doesn't like liu too much, but she respects him. liu hates jeff. jeff wants to be liu's brother again. sully isn't fond of any of them other than liu.
helen has a fear of the dark but is hesitant to admit it.
eyeless jack can eat cooked meat without throwing it up but it genuinely tastes absolutely disgusting to him and it does make him feel nauseous afterward eating it.
sully shows little to no interest in things, so when something catches his interest, it catches his interest.
jason, vine, and the puppeteer meet up every few weeks to have a little doll-making club.
helen is very very very interested in the horror genre and has seen many many horror movies. it's one of the best ways to strike up a conversation with him.
okay uh i think that's all that's coming to mind for now! so. yeah.

If you had to pick one tv series, one film and one piece of audio material (be it music or audio drama etc.) - which ones would you choose?
Ooh boy! Never, ever ask me to pick one of anything because I point-blank cannot! 😆
So, TV series:
Doctor Who - because it's so wide-ranging in types of stories and also it has so many Doctor/Companion combinations to choose from.
Silent Witness - because I love Nikki Alexander, but I love DI Jill Raymond even more (and I totally ship those two!).
Annika - because Nicola Walker breaking the fourth wall and driving motorboats is a thing not to be missed!
Unforgotten - because Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar are a terrific pairing.
Endeavour - because Shaun Evans is fantastic as a young Morse before he became the grouchy Inspector and he and Roger Allam as DI Fred Thursday are another terrific pairing.
Scott & Bailey - because who can argue with Amelia Bullmore, Suranne Jones & Lesley Sharp solving crimes?!
Film: (This is harder because I don't tend to watch many films)
I'll Be There - because Jemma Redgrave is delightful.
The Mummy - oh please, Evie Carnahan as the librarian turned badass adventurer who falls in love with the foul-mouthed Rick O'Connell! What's not to love?
Galaxy Quest - because it's a bloody brilliant and utterly hilarious parody and Alan Rickman kills it!
While You Were Sleeping - girl falls for boy, boy ends up in a coma, girl realises she likes boy's brother better - again, I ask, what's not to love?
Audio:
Anything Eighth Doctor except Stranded.
Welcome To Our Village, Please Invade Carefully - because Hattie Morahan is awesome and Peter Davison is hilarious (and who knew the Fifth Doctor and Helen Sinclair would be such a comic pairing?!).
Cabin Pressure - very funny and Stephanie Cole as the world-weary airdot (it's not an airline if you've only got one plane!) CEO, Roger Allam as the always conniving co-pilot, and John Finnemore as the over-cheerful, hapless steward is a cast to die for!
Thanks for the Ask, Anon!

Dr. Ronald (Ron) A. Motill

Dr. Ronald (Ron) A. Motill, 83, of River Street Manor, Wilkes Barre peacefully passed on December 15, 2024 at the Geisinger Hospital ICU, with his beloved soulmate Linda by his side. Ron was born and raised in South Philadelphia, the first of two sons of Andrew and Helen Motill. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his brother. He is survived by his companion Linda and his extended family (Adrianna, Raymond Chad, Morgan, Lily, Benjamin, and Jacob), several aunts and cousins.
Ron knew at a very young age that he wanted to be a scientist, while attending grade school in his Catholic church. He recalled his early education as rigorous endless drills of arithmetic, spelling, catechism, and grammar. When he received a 2,000+ page copy of Practical Mathematics for Christmas one year, he spent countless hours studying math theory and applied methods in physics and actuarial studies. Ron spoke proudly of his time he spent in the Scouts, particularly when he earned a merit badge in amateur radio, teaching himself Morse Code, building his own short-wave radio and converting an Army transmitter to broadcast live over the airwaves; this is particularly impressive given he wasn’t yet a teenager.
When Ron graduated high school at just 16 years old, he had multiple scholarship offers including one from MIT, but he decided on Syracuse University so he would be closer to home. He studied electrical engineering, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. He found his passion working in physics as it allowed him to “enjoy the beauty of math while using it to solve concrete problems”. Ron was so fond of Syracuse that he stayed on for his post-doctoral work focusing on the geometry of spacetime and its curvature; he did his graduate research studies in Einstein’s theory of gravitation, or General Relativity. He worked side-by-side with Einstein’s colleagues at the Princeton Institute for Advanced Studies. He finished his doctoral dissertation, “Hamiltonian Propagation off Characteristic Surfaces for Gravitation” and received his PhD in Physics in 1974. He went on to teach physics at several prestigious universities within the United States and abroad. One of his most memorable experiences was the time he spent in Saudi Arabia at King Faisal University where he instructed pre-med students in physics, math, and calculus. While in Saudi Arabia he expanded his horizons in academia, learning about medical technology and laboratories and eventually began lecturing in those courses of study in addition to his work in physics and applied mathematics. He also learned Arabic while immersing himself in the culture.
Ron retuned to the United States in 1995 where he served as a professor at Penn State University. He retired to the Wyoming Valley where he focused his energy on helping his aging mother as well as volunteer activities including VITA (volunteer income tax assistance program) to assist the elderly in preparing tax forms, and he relished singing in the choir at St. Theresa’s Church in Shavertown. He enjoyed physical fitness including lap swimming a mile a day four days a week, riding his bicycle, canoeing/kayaking, and hiking. Ron thoroughly enjoyed traveling with Linda including trips to many state and national parks as well as trips to Europe and Canada.
Family and friends are invited from 1 to 3 PM on Thursday, December 19th, at Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, PA.
Ron will be missed for his love of life, his kindness and generosity, his genuine soul and caring nature, his quick wit and humor, and his never-ending thirst for knowledge and intellect. The family extends our sincere gratitude to Ron’s caregivers at River Street Manor.

Movie of the Day: Picnic at Hanging Rock
Every year I think about the movie Picnic at Hanging Rock, I get a terrible dread. The first time I saw it, I was so creeped out because I felt that the movie events happened in real life. However, I did a quick Google search and saw that it was a novel by Joan Lindsay that was published in 1967: The movie was later released in 1975 and directed by Peter Weir. It starred Helen Morse, Jacki…
