Summary: Music pertaining to Lucy's early childhood, from when she was born to when she joins the circus. It ultimately ends when she gets trapped in the crystal ball.

Disambiguation:

Somewhat uncharacteristically for me; this playlist features a fair few instrumental pieces of music. There’s something very solitary about music playing on it’s own (lol duh literally) and that melancholic feel is very pertenant to Lucy’s childhood. For a long time she doesn’t feel like she has a voice, or else doesn’t have the right words to express herself, and so instrumentals are peppered throughout this playlist in moments of deep thought and emotion.

This entire playlist is pretty down-beat, not gonna lie, but it picks up as Lucy builds up the resolve to run away. It’s by no means a whimsical decision - she’s had a bitterness towards her situation at home growing steadily before leaving for good. There’s another brief instrumental interlude here while Lucy soaks in the wonder of the circus, but this time it’s of a much happier tone. Lucy is finally feeling happy, like she’s found her place.

THEN THE LAST SONG. Is representative of her magician mentor making a literal deal with a demon and trapping Lu in a crystal ball. It’s darker, more chaotic, and revealing of the Big Top as a place of nightmares as much as of dreams. Lucy has an incredibly rose-coloured view of her circus days. Funnily enough, this moment where a demon gets involved is more honestly characteristic of the circus as a whole. It’s a weird and often dark place. Up until this point Lucy has just blindy ignored that fact.

Finally: I like having playlists that can loop nicely, and honestly if you listen to the first song again directly after the last it evokes a sickeningly cyclical feel of Lucy having ultimately not really gone anywhere. She ends up in another agonising situation out of her control. That being said, the “angrier” overall tone of that final instrumental are a lot more apt for her progressing as a character and lead onto other Lucy playlists quite well too.

Musical Themes:

PIANO. Songs with a piano somewhere in it get instant bonus Lucy points. She learns to play as a child so often I’ll stick piano covers or original songs on her playlists and like to imagine they’re song that she would actually learn(/compose?) herself.
