Also: Hekate is never mentioned as the Maiden Mither Crone archetype. She is a “triple” goddess but her three forms are Selene, Hekate, Artemis. (Sometimes Persephone is swapped for either Selene or Artemis). Like I swear when I first started dabbling into this whole thing I actually put my own knowledge from my own damn culture in the back burner and took that Neo-Pagan shit for granted. Always do research!!!!!
Oh yeah! That's a great example of an ancient goddess getting something totally modern projected onto her.

More Apollo fic excerpts for you all, because I'm on a roll:
Looking at Father is hard. Apollo has learnt this early on, but Apollo is also either incorrigibly foolish, or insurmountably stubborn. Either way, he tries and tries and tries; the truth is his, and he will look into the King's eyes while he gets it.
Lightning crackles around Zeus's lashes, fine white scars upon his dark skin. He sighs unhappily, and somewhere around Cretan Ida, rain-black clouds are blown away. "Why do you ask that, child?"
"Hekate thinks it is unjust."
"Did she say that to you?"
"No."
Apollo does not mention that she said that to his sister and his mother, because that was not what Father asked. He does not speak of her grief either - the King is a forge of hot power thrumming with ill-supressed rage, a rush of deadly cloudstrike and bitter ozone under his tongue - and Apollo is... apprehensive, if not afraid.
Zeus sighs again. The rain clouds return, and drought is averted. His beard droops, and the riot of spiked hair curls into itself. "It is fate," he says. "There had to be a safe place for you to be born."
"And fate is greater than justice, then?"
"You know the Fates. You know Fate is greater than everything."
Apollo says nothing. In the following silence, father and son stare at each other, picking away at the other's minds.
As always, Father breaks first. "I could not lose you," he says. "You are to be a great god."
Perhaps Apollo should be kinder, perhaps Apollo should be blind. But he is not. Here too the Fates are unfair - he can see Ares' quiet pain, he can see Hera's righteous rage. And his memory is terrible in its divinity - a hundred thousand words of fatherly love will not wipe away all those days of his mother's tears.
Or perhaps it is not fatherly love at all. Apollo is to be a great god, a mighty cog in the automaton that is Fate, and like Hephaestus, Zeus its builder cares little for who the cogs are, or where they come from. They must only exist.
Or perhaps it is just him - Apollo, the Destroyer. Under his hands is the ruin of a hundred women, and then some more, and Hekate is one notch among many others. Perhaps Apollo blames fruitlessly, for it is his father who chased his aunt, and his birth that holds her down. Perhaps his father loves them - him and Artemis and Mother Leto, and has only sought to turn fate in their favour through his ruthlessness. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. So many chances, so many answers.
Apollo looks at Father, and does not believe even one.
"I see," he says. "Thank you for your time, Your Majesty."
Zeus-King frowns. He holds out a hand as if to call out, then drops it and turns away. "You may leave," he says, and Apollo does.

I CAN YEAH !!! i can gush about them forever and ever!!!! under the cut for length <3

melitodes' physical appearance and her aesthetics lean towards nepalese inspired clothing and accessories, just because i was quite interested in different kinds of 'draped' clothing, which is why her clothes are a combination of a sari and typical greek chitons/robes. she loved her home very much and is very influenced by demeter, which makes her quite cold and steely towards the chthonic gods at the start, before she warms up to everyone, though she still struggles with showing her appreciation/emotions. the cast is very understanding though, as anyone who plays foa knows, and doesn't mind so much once they know she's trying and cares for them very much.
very organised and enjoys 'desk work', and also disliked hermes from the start because she perceived him to be too immature and too annoying, and was a little frightened and responded badly to alekto's initial grilling. she gets over this though! especially with alekto! she now works as a diplomat, the combination of her intelligence and intuition making up for how she can be a little distant at times.
Tumblr media
dionysus has never really had a hard time, though he's a bit concious of the fact that he knows he's sheltered, and that he breezes through a lot of life. the vines in his hair are pretty much the only magic he can do, where he's great at growing grapes but not much else, so he's quite attached. a chilled-out and happy-go-lucky sort of person, he slowly figures out his ambitions and his talents, since he awkwardly never felt like being 'well liked and atheletic' would ever amount to anything 'substantial', especially considering how he's not good at magic, and how different this all makes him from demeter. given time to explore what he can do with his interests, he helps the moirae, interested in how fate works and how fickle it can be.
though he never really resented demeter, or chafed under her watch, he's curious about the world and was excited to see the underworld. upon meeting friendly faces like pyri, charon and hekate, he figured (quite naively, but luckily the chthonic gods are actually that kind) that this would actually be totally fine, and was relaxed pretty much from the start.
Tumblr media
and despite how persephone is the pc that i have posted about for years, i realise i haven't really sobbed about her properly, so here we are! despite loving their mother and aunt deeply, they've always wanted more than olympus, feeling out of place there. they've hidden this, and was curious and positive towards the underworld initially. plus, hermes goes there often, and never complains, so she's privately believed it couldn't be that bad. plus when hermes reassures them, they have more reason not to worry! rather placating as well, some part of his 'arc' in my head is learning to voice what they want, rather than trying to make their mother or friends happy.
a very physical worker, they have never been able to sit still and enjoy book-learning, preferring crafts and practicing their magic. they're helping out with the agriculture in the underworld and they love gardening, while the other two don't necessarily love it (meli does it out of obligation, and dionysus isn't good at it). quietly snarky and fun, they get along with hermes so well because they're sneakier than most would believe. a strict parent will do that to you!
all three of them have a sort of 'finding who they are' story, since foa really leans to that by itself:
meli's is more of a "letting go of prejudice, learning to see past (olympian) propaganda and realising who i really am outside of olympus' influence".
dion has a more traditional "i don't have direction, but suddenly in the right surroundings with the right people, i'm growing into the person i've always wanted to be"
seph is all about "finding out and fighting for what i want, rather than trying to pacify others, and figuring out who i am in that process"
it all ends with that sense of belonging, and feeling at home with this cast of deities. it's also sort of a first time for all of them to have more than one or zero friends, since most of their aquaintences are their mother's household staff and one (1) other goddess. some of them do very well, and others not so much. it's a fun game to play around with the stats and choices with! they all eventually love the underworld and its residents though, regardless of how they start and progress, because i am playing and i need my pcs to love it LOL
thank you for asking me, and if you read all that thank you omg i have just taken the excuse to rant!! mwah!!

Any advice on strengthening ones relationship with Hekate?. Thank you kindly.
Hello 👋🫂
One of the amazing things about Lady Hekate Nyctipolus is how broad her domain is. She has so many forms and facets, so take everything I say with a grain of salt! She appears in unique ways for everyone.
Many of her followers associate her with witchcraft. I personally don't consider myself a witch, so I'm a little distanced from this aspect of her. But if you do practice some form of witchcraft, perhaps you can start dedicating your spell work to her.
If you engage in spirit work, ancestor work, death work, deity worship more broadly, etc, you might consider asking Lady Hekate to aid in that communication. And for her protection in her role as a death/underworld goddess. I know she acts as a guide for many of her followers (myself included!)
Communication is definitely key (pun intended) for many Hekate worshipers. Getting into a specific kind of divination (I personally prefer tarot, but there also pendulums, meditation, etc) can help strengthen that relationship. She is the patron of boundaries and thresholds after all! Find a way to breach that wall has been a personal favorite way of connecting for me.
For me, I think I sense Lady Hekate most clearly in those 'in-between places.' I love going out for nighttime drives and finding her at empty intersections, in abandoned buildings, in any space that feels liminal.
And, of course, go ahead and ask her! In my experience, Lady Hekate is one of the more 'receptive' or 'quick to answer' deities that I work with. That's not to say that she is at your beck and call, she definitely demands focus and commitment. But she's also very dedicated to her followers just like they're dedicated to her.
Ask her in your own way with whatever divination tool you prefer how to advance that relationship! Start offering antique keys or vintage things or flowers and see how she responds! I personally don't buy the whole 'you have to wait eagerly for a sign from Lady Hekate before you start working with her.'
She can be intimidating and intense certainly, but not necessarily in a frightening way. Just in a way that demands respect. So as long as your approach her with good intentions, I'm sure she'll be willing to listen.
Thanks for the ask!

Quick question...does anyone know where a large print (or at least one that isnt tiny ass print like they have in trade paperback editions) for The Vampire Armand is sold? I have the book in hardcover and I read it already BUT I want to reread it - its just such a pain in the ass to read a hardcover book. I dont know if I'm making sense cause everywhere i look for that book its always those super cheap tiny editions and idk about anyone else but the print is too packed & small for me read. Im hoping to find a medium sized paperback. I guess similar in size to the reprinted first 3 books. (In english)

i'm sorry if this is a bad question, but do you know anywhere online that i can read the vampire chronicles books for free? i don't want to ask my parents for money, i don't think they'd approve of me reading these types of books. i'm 19 but financially dependent on them for the foreseeable future so i don't wanna make them mad
hi! oh no, definitely not a bad question!
here's a link to a shared google folder that's been going around for a while with The Vampire Chronicles books 1-11, plus some other stuff like 'Interlude with the Undead' aka Armand's Playboy Story and 'Vittorio' (a standalone vampire novel that doesn't really have anything to do with the rest of TVC)
and here's a folder I just made that contains the PL-trilogy (so the last three books in the series)
they don't display by publication date in the drive, but the chronological reading order is as follows:
Interview with the Vampire (1976)
The Vampire Lestat (1985)
The Queen of the Damned (1988)
The Tale of the Body Thief (1992)
Memnoch the Devil (1995)
Pandora (1998)
The Vampire Armand (1998)
Merrick (2000)
Blood and Gold (2001)
Blackwood Farm (2002)
Blood Canticle (2003)
Prince Lestat (2014)
Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis (2016)
Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat (2018)
a little bonus for the DM fans: I extracted the Devil's Minion's chapter from QotD a while ago to make your life and mine that much easier
enjoy, and welcome to our fandom if you decide to stick around! ♥️

Hi! Can you please help out with asteroid Hekate rx in the 8th house? Thank you very much!
Ooo repressed power? You might be afraid of yourself in a way, its not that you even dislike yourself you just are overly aware of your power and dont want it to get out of control. Hekate is really about owning your power and theres some dark energy with the 8th house (when I say dark I mean the divine darkness). Once you mature into your power you can use it to guide and build and I think it can be extremely beneficial to your growth and development. Its up to you to draw that power out as Hekate only works with those who work with her.

any tips on working with or reaching out to Hecate/Hekate? she seems lovely to work with <3
Hey there!
Mother Hekate is so lovely to work with! I've been working with her for nearly 8 years now and I have learned so much from her. She is so loving, understanding, and helpful.
Tips for reaching out:
Learn some of her myths and cult history
Learn her signs and symbolism
Learn her epithets and call upon the one that speaks to you
Light a candle and introduce yourself to her
Give her an offering of your choice
Find something you want to work on and ask for her help
There is no wrong way to reach out! Just be honest and genuine. She is very understanding and, in my experience, was easy to approach. So don't be afraid to stumble over your words.
I hope this helps! May your path with her be blessed!

Tell me a bit about Artemis’s relationship to Persephone. I’ve always felt in my heart they were close.
Hello hello!
Persephone has been connected to a number of other goddesses, including Isis (Aset/Eset), Rhea, Gaia, Hestia, Artemis, Hecate, and, of course, Demeter. The relationship with Artemis is a natural one as both are vegetarian goddesses.
I believe Artemis is first referenced in the Persephone myth by Hesiod. From the Theoi Project:
"Zeus, it is said, advised Pluto, who was in love with the beautiful Persephone, to carry her off, as her mother, Demeter, was not likely to allow her daughter to go. Pluto carried her off while she was gathering flowers with Artemis and Athena."
We then see Hekate assisting Demeter in her search for Persephone. As she serves a 'key-holder/gatekeeper' role, she could help transport Demeter between realms. Again, from the Theoi Project cited from the Homeric Hymn to Demeter:
"Hekate assisted Demeter in her search for Persephone, guiding her through the night with flaming torches. After the mother-daughter reunion became she Persephone's minister and companion."
&
"Then bright-coiffed Hekate came near to them, and often did she embrace the daughter of holy Demeter: and from that time the lady Hekate was minister and companion to Persephone."
In some versions of the story of Demeter's search, it is Artemis who carries the torch and helps her find the Underworld. Though this is most commonly attributed to Hekate. But it's important to note that Artemis and Hekate have been heavily connected/conflated/syncretised.
From this point on, Hekate is considered to be Persephone's companion in the Underworld and guides her between realms when she returns for spring.
As Artemis is the deity of the wilds and nature, we can assume the two are reunited just as she is reunited with Demeter. Artemis is her companion in her time outside of the Underworld and Hekate is her companion while in the Underworld.
Some people also consider Artemis and Hekate to have been syncretised at some point. If that is a personal belief of yours, Artemis-Hekate would serve as her companion year round!
Hope this was helpful ❤️🥀

@stubborngods has requested a story : “ if i don’t get a nap in the next hour i’ll probably murder someone. ” (pasithea to hekate)
𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒅.
Tumblr media
From the alcove emerges the she-titan , carrying with her two porcelain mugs wafting a pleasant steam scented-warm of chamomile ( perfect for those incessant nerves & tensions ) , the pot of tea floating along behind her shoulder , charmed by a dash of her sorcery.  Hekate regards the other sprawled upon the couch , clicking her tongue and pressing one of the mugs into her dangling hand.  ❝ Oh , please , none of that , ❞ She says , shaking her head , ❝ I j u s t tidied up the place , I couldn’t s t a n d having such a mess again.  Blood is exceptionally pesky to get out of the wood and stone , you know. ❞  Hekate considers it , and then ( as if she assumes there might well be more she has to add ) , ❝ Murder is n e v e r a good answer.  Haven’t we learned that by example already ?  You just haven’t been sleeping well. ❞
Hekate lightly pats the little Nereid upon the head , an almost m o t h e r l y gesture where nimble magic-touched digits fondly thread through hair.  ❝ Drink the tea , ❞ She coaxes , ❝ The brew will help you relax and rest easier.  You are more than welcome to the guest bedchamber for your nap.  You can stay for dinner , too , if you find yourself hungry by the time you wake up.  Don’t worry about a thing , you let me take care of life’s pesky little details for now. ❞  One might detect a note of genuine c o n c e r n in her tone , amethystine hues watching and waiting for her to drink , to sit up , before reaching out and helping her to the guest room to get settled in.

Counting Crows
Tumblr media
As far as symbolism goes crows are a pretty mixed bag. To some they are the sacred messengers of spirits or deities and signs of good fortune, to others, they are an omen of bad luck, sorrow, and death. Witches have been divinating the crow's message, through various methods, for centuries and perhaps the most notable of these is the practice of counting crows. Granted, there are several variations of this, handed down through poems and literature, but what about counting crows as an in depth divination method?
