I had some really incredible shopping experiences in Puerto Rico. I met a couple local designers and bought a maxi dress from the woman who designed it and also splits her time between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic working with sex trafficking victims. I met a couple shopkeepers who offered great product lines and bought crystals from a young woman who had the coolest beachside shop environment. As a designer and a shopkeeper myself it felt so exciting to experience and support these people and places. Doing it with my bestie who I co-own @hectorhandmade with made it all the sweeter. Especially in tourist areas shopkeepers and the products they offer make a huge impact on people; The stories, intentions and quality reflect on the culture (whether they like it or not and whether it’s “good or bad”!) Today I’m shining the spotlight on an incredible human, my best friend Jennie Scarbrough —whose birthday just happens to be today 🎉 Jennie is an ever changing multidisciplinary artist and entrepreneur. For the past 6 years she and I have co-created the Finger Lakes New York Gift Shop and Gallery, @HectorHandmade where we’re cooking up some merging and emerging dreamscapes steeped in feminine creativity. Creativity and art have always been a part of Jennie’s life, she has created watercolor art collections, painted album cover art, created photography collections, curated many beautiful spaces and amazing events, is now trying her hand at refinishing furniture, has always been a writer and up for learning and growing in new and beautiful ways and has worked very hard to lead an artful and thoughtful 40 years of life (we’re celebrating her today in Puerto Rico!) Jennie is also an airBnB Super Host and Vacation Rental Property Manager and lives and loves with her amazing husband Jason who is a Finger Lakes Realtor.
