the fact that microsoft’s inherently shitty ai app is one of the most downloaded and well received apps on the apple app store is an actual fucking crime. idc if it works and that’s why it’s good it’s still ai.
i know anyone who still defends ai being used to replicate and/or replace any form of artistic expression is a massive creatively bankrupt person who probably peaked in high school and is struggling to be anything due to how anything seen as cringe/unpopular equals bad + the majority of people who actively use apps are either old farts with most of their brain ripped out or ipad/tiktok kids who have had their brains rotted to the point of no return but considering how the most popular forms of ai function off of theft and even privacy breaching (with the former at least being pushed to the forefront). yeah.
ai can be good i have to stress that but the ways it has and continues to be most commonly used is stealing, and considering how many voice actors who have had their voice used in voice synthesizers expressed being genuinely uncomfortable and hurt by it, this shouldn’t just be swept under the rug. it’s dangerous. did we learn nothing from the billions of “ai bad and dystopian” plot lines in books/movies/games/any form of media. did we.

Fandom can do a little gatekeeping. As a treat.
So I finally decided to archive-lock my fics on AO3 last night. I’ve been considering it since the AI scrape last year, but the tipping point was this whole lore.fm debacle, coupled with some thoughts I’ve been thinking regarding Fandom These Days in general and Fandom As A Community in particular. So I wanna explain why I waited so long, why I locked my stuff up now, and why I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m a-okay with making it harder for people to see my stories.
Lurkers really are great, tho
I’m a chronic lurker, and have been since I started hanging out on the internet as a teen in the 00s. These days it’s just cuz I don’t feel a need to socialize very often, but back then it was because I was shy and knew I was socially awkward. Even if I made an account, I’d spend months lurking on message boards or forums or Livejournals, watching other people interact and getting a feel for that particular community’s culture and etiquette before I finally started interacting myself. And y’know, that approach saved me a lot of embarrassment. Over the course of my lurking on any site, there was always some other person who’d clearly joined up five minutes after learning the place existed, barged in without a care for their behavior, and committed so many social faux pas that all the other users were immediately annoyed with them at best. I learned a lot observing those incidents. Lurk More is Rule 33 of the internet for very good reason.
Lurking isn’t bad or weird or creepy. It’s perfectly normal. I love lurking. It’s hard for me to not lurk - socializing takes a lot of energy out of me, even via text. (Heck it took 12 hours for me to write this post, I wish I was kidding--) Occasionally I’ll manage longer bouts of interaction - a few weeks posting here, almost a year chatting in a discord there - but I’m always gonna end up going radio silent for months at some point. I used to feel bad about it, but I’ve long since made peace with the fact that it’s just the way my brain works. I’m a chronic lurker, and in the long term nothing is going to change that.
The thing with being a chronic lurker is that you have to accept that you are not actually seen as part of the community you are lurking in. That’s not to say that lurkers are unimportant - lurkers actually are important, and they make up a large proportion of any online community - but it’s simple cause and effect. You may think of it as “your community”, but if you’ve never said a word, how is the community supposed to know you exist? If I lurked on someone’s LJ, and then that person suddenly friendslocked their blog, I knew that I had two choices: Either accept that I would never be able to read their posts again, or reach out to them and ask if I could be added to their friends list with the full understanding that I was a rando they might not decide to trust. I usually went with the first option, because my invisibility as a lurker was more important to me than talking to strangers on the internet.
Lurking is like sitting on a park bench, quietly people-watching and eavesdropping on the conversations other people are having around you. You’re in the park, but you’re not actively participating in anything happening there. You can see and hear things that you become very interested in! But if you don’t introduce yourself and become part of the conversation, you won’t be able to keep listening to it when those people walk away. When fandom migrated away from Livejournal, people moved to new platforms alongside their friends, but lurkers were often left behind. No one knew they existed, so they weren’t told where everyone else was going. To be seen as part of a fandom community, you need to submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known, etc. etc.
There’s nothing wrong with lurking. There can actually be benefits to lurking, both for the lurkers and the communities they lurk in. It’s just another way to be in a fandom. But if that is how you exist in fandom--and remember, I say this as someone who often does exist that way in fandom--you need to remember that you’re on the outside looking in, and the curtains can always close.
I’ve always been super sympathetic to lurkers, because I am one. I know there’s a lot of people like me who just don’t socialize often. I know there’s plenty of reasons why someone might not make an account on the internet - maybe they’re nervous, maybe they’re young and their parents don’t allow them to, maybe they’re in a bad situation where someone is monitoring their activity, maybe they can only access the internet from public computer terminals. Heck, I’ve never even logged into AO3 on my phone--if I’m away from my computer I just read what’s publicly available.
I know I have people lurking on my fics. I know my fics probably mean a lot to someone I don’t even know exists. I know this because there are plenty of fics I love whose writers don’t know I exist.
I love my commenters personally; I love my lurkers as an abstract concept. I know they’re there and I wish them well, and if they ever de-lurk I love them all the more.
So up until last year I never considered archive-locking my fic, because I get it. The AI scraping was upsetting, but I still hesitated because I was thinking of lurkers and guests and remembering what it felt like to be 15 and wondering if it’d be worth letting a stranger on the internet know I existed and asking to be added to their friends list just so I could reread a funny post they made once.
But the internet has changed a lot since the 00s, and fandom has changed with it. I’ve read some things and been doing some thinking about fandom-as-community over the last few years, and reading through the lore.fm drama made me decide that it’s time for me to set some boundaries.
I still love my lurkers, and I feel bad about leaving any guest commenters behind, especially if they’re in a situation where they can’t make an account for some reason. But from here on out, even my lurkers are going to have to do the bare minimum to read my fics--make an AO3 account.
Should we gatekeep fandom?
I’ve seen a few people ask this question, usually rhetorically, sometimes as a joke, always with a bit of seriousness. And I think…yeah, maybe we should. Except wait, no, not like that--
A decade ago, when people talked about fandom gatekeeping and why it was bad to do, it intersected with a lot of other things, mainly feminism and classism. The prevalent image of fandom gatekeeping was, like, a man learning that a woman likes Star Wars and haughtily demanding, “Oh, yeah? Well if you’re REALLY a fan, name ten EU novels” to belittle and dismiss her, expecting that a “real fan” would have the money and time to be familiar with the EU, and ignoring the fact that male movie-only fans were still considered fans. The thing being gatekept was the very definition of “being a fan” and people’s right to describe themselves as one.
That’s not what I mean when I say maybe fandom should gatekeep more. Anyone can call themselves a fan if they like something, that’s fine. But when it comes to the ability to enjoy the fanworks produced by the fandom community…that might be something worth gatekeeping.
See, back in the 00s, it was perfectly common for people to just…not go on the internet. Surfing the web was a thing, but it was just, like, a fun pastime. Not everyone did it. It wasn’t until the rise of social media that going online became a thing everyone and their grandmother did every day. Back then, going on the internet was just…a hobby.
So one of the first gates online fandom ever had was the simple fact that the entire world wasn’t here yet.
The entire world is here now. That gate has been demolished.
And it’s a lot easier to find us now. Even scattered across platforms, fandom is so centralized these days. It isn’t a network of dedicated webshrines and forums that you can only find via webrings anymore, it’s right there on all the big social media sites. AO3 didn’t set out to be the main fanfic website, but that’s definitely what it’s become. It’s easy for people to find us--and that includes people who don’t care about the community, and just want “content.”
Transformative fandom doesn’t like it when people see our fanworks as “content”. “Content” is a pretty broad term, but when fandom uses it we’re usually referring to creative works that are churned out by content creators to be consumed by an audience as quickly as possible as often as possible so that the content creator can generate revenue. This not-so-new normal has caused a massive shift in how people who are new to fandom view fanworks--instead of seeing fic or art as something a fellow fan made and shared with you, they see fanworks as products to be consumed.
Transformative fandom has, in general, always been a gift economy. We put time and effort into creating fanworks that we share with our fellow fans for free. We do this so we don’t get sued, but fandom as a whole actually gets a lot out of the gift economy. Offer your community a story, and in return you can get comments, build friendships, or inspire other people to write things that you might want to read. Readers are given the gift of free stories to read and enjoy, and while lurking is fine, they have the choice to engage with the writer and other readers by leaving comments or making reclists to help build the community.
And look, don’t get me wrong. People have never engaged with fanfic as much as fan writers wish they would. There has always been “no one comments anymore” wank. There have always been people who only comment to say “MORE!” or otherwise demand or guilt trip writers into posting the next chapter. But fandom has always agreed that those commenters are rude and annoying, and as those commenters navigate fandom they have the chance to learn proper community etiquette.
However, now it seems that a lot of the people who are consuming fanworks aren’t actually in the community.
I won’t say “they aren’t real fans” because that’s silly; there’s lots of ways to be a fan. But there seem to be a lot of fans now who have no interest in fandom as a community, or in adhering to community etiquette, or in respecting the gift economy. They consume our fics, but they don’t appreciate fan labor. They want our “content”, but they don’t respect our control over our creations.
And even worse--they see us as a resource. We share our work for free, as a gift, but all they see is an open-source content farm waiting to be tapped into. We shared it for free, so clearly they can do whatever they want with it. Why should we care if they feed our work into AI training datasets, or copy/paste our unfinished stories into ChatGPT to get an ending, or charge people for an unnecessary third-party AO3 app, or sell fanbindings on etsy for a profit without the author’s permission, or turn our stories into poor imitations of podfics to be posted on other platforms without giving us credit or asking our consent, while also using it to lure in people they can datascrape for their Forbes 30 Under 30 company?
And sure, people have been doing shady things with other people’s fanworks since forever. Art theft and reposting has always been a big problem. Fanfic is harder to flat-out repost, but I’ve heard of unauthorized fic translations getting posted without crediting the original author. Once in…I think the 2010s? I read a post by a woman who had gone to some sort of local bookselling event, only to find that the man selling “his” novel had actually self-published her fanfic. (Wish I could find that one again, I don’t even remember where I read it.)
But aside from that third example, the thing is…as awful as fanart/writing theft is, back in the day, the main thing a thief would gain from it was clout. Clout that should rightfully go to the creators who gifted their work in the first place, yeah, but still. Just clout. People will do a lot of hurtful things for clout, but fandom clout means nothing outside of fandom. Fandom clout is not enough to incentivize the sort of wide-scale pillaging we’re seeing from community outsiders today.
Money, on the other hand… Well, fandom’s just a giant, untapped content farm, isn’t it? Think of how much revenue all that content could generate.
Lurkers are a normal and even beneficial part of any online community. Maybe one day they’ll de-lurk and easily slide into place beside their fellow fans because they already know the etiquette. Maybe they’re active in another community, and they can spread information from the community they lurk in to the community they’re active in. At the very least, they silently observe, and even if they’re not active community members, they understand the community.
Fans who see fanworks as “content” don’t belong in the same category as lurkers. They’re tourists.
While reading through the initial Reddit thread on the lore.fm situation, I found this comment:
Tumblr media
[ID: Reddit User Cabbitowo says: ... So in anime fandoms we have a word called tourist and essentially it means a fan of a few anime and doesn't care about anime tropes and actively criticizes them. This is kind of how fandoms on tiktok feel. They're touring fanfics and fanart and actively criticizes tropes that have been in the fandom since the 60s. They want to be in a fandom but they don't want to engage in fandom
OP totallymandy responds: Just entered back into Reddit after a long day to see this most recent reply. And as a fellow anime fan this making me laugh so much since it’s true! But it sorta hurts too when the reality sets in. Modern fandom is so entitled and bratty and you’d think it’s the minors only but that’s not even true, my age-mates and older seem to be like that. They want to eat their cake and complain all whilst bringing nothing to the potluck… :/ END ID]
-
“Tourist” is an apt name for this sort of fan. They don’t want to be part of our community, and they don’t have to be in order to come into our spaces and consume our work. Even if they don’t steal our work themselves, they feel so entitled to it that they’re fine with ignoring our wishes and letting other people take it to make AI “podfics” for them to listen to (there are a lot of comments on lore.fm’s shutdown announcement video from people telling them to just ignore the writers and do it anyway). They’ll use AI to generate an ending to an unfinished fic because they don’t care about seeing “the ending this writer would have given to the story they were telling”, they just want “an ending”. For these tourist fans, the ends justify the means, and their end goal is content for them to consume, with no care for the community that created it for them in the first place.
I don’t think this is confined to a specific age group. This isn’t “13-year-olds on Wattpad” or “Zoomers on TikTok” or whatever pointless generation war we’re in now. This is coming from people who are new to fandom, whose main experience with creative works on the internet is this new content culture and who don’t understand fandom as a community. That description can be true of someone from any age group.
It’s so easy to find fandom these days. It is, in fact, too easy. Newcomers face no hurdles or challenges that would encourage them to lurk and observe a bit before engaging, and it’s easy for people who would otherwise move on and leave us alone to start making trouble. From tourist fans to content entrepreneurs to random people who just want to gawk, it’s so easy for people who don’t care about the fandom community to reap all of its fruits.
So when I say maybe fandom should start gatekeeping a bit, I’m referring to the fact that we barely even have a gate anymore. Everyone is on the internet now; the entire world can find us, and they don’t need to bother learning community etiquette when they do. Before, we were protected by the fact that fandom was considered weird and most people didn’t look at it twice. Now, fandom is pretty mainstream. People who never would’ve bothered with it before are now comfortable strolling in like they own the place. They have no regard for the fandom community, they don’t understand it, and they don’t want to. They want to treat it just like the rest of the content they consume online.
And then they’re surprised when those of us who understand fandom culture get upset. Fanworks have existed far longer than the algorithmic internet’s content. Fanworks existed long before the internet. We’ve lived like this for ages and we like it.
So if someone can’t be bothered to respect fandom as a community, I don’t see why I should give them easy access to my fics.
Think of it like a garden gate
When I interact with commenters on my fic, I have this sense of hospitality.
The comment section is my front porch. The fic is my garden. I created my garden because I really wanted to, and I’m proud of it, and I’m happy to share it with other people.
Lots of people enjoy looking at my garden. Many walk through without saying anything. Some stop to leave kudos. Some recommend my garden to their friends. And some people take the time to stop by my front porch and let me know what a beautiful garden it is and how much they’ve enjoyed it.
Any fic writer can tell you that getting comments is an incredible feeling. I always try to answer all my comments. I don’t always manage it, but my fics’ comment sections are the one place that I manage to consistently socialize in fandom. When I respond to a comment, it feels like I’m pouring out a glass of lemonade to share with this lovely commenter on my front porch, a thank you for their thank you. We take a moment to admire my garden together, and then I see them out. The next time they drop by, I recognize them and am happy to pour another glass of lemonade.
My garden has always been open and easy to access. No fences, no walls. You just have to know where to find it. Fandom in general was once protected by its own obscurity, an out-of-the-way town that showed up on maps but was usually ignored.
But now there’s a highway that makes it easy to get to, and we have all these out-of-towner tourists coming in to gawk and steal our lawn ornaments and wonder if they can use the place to make themselves some money.
I don’t care to have those types trampling over my garden and eating all my vegetables and digging up my flowers to repot and sell, so I’ve put up a wall. It has a gate that visitors can get through if they just take the time to open it.
Admittedly, it’s a small obstacle. But when I share my fics, I share them as a gift with my fellow fans, the ones who understand that fandom is a community, even if they’re lurkers. As for tourist fans and entrepreneurs who see fic as content, who have no qualms ignoring the writer’s wishes, who refuse to respect or understand the fandom community…well, they’re not the people I mean to share my fic with, so I have no issues locking them out. If they want access to my stories, they’ll have to do the bare minimum to become a community member and join the AO3 invite queue.
And y’know, I’ve said a lot about fandom and community here, and I just want to say, I hope it’s not intimidating. When I was younger, talk about The Fandom Community made me feel insecure, and I didn’t think I’d ever manage to be active enough in fandom spaces to be counted as A Member Of The Community. But you don’t have to be a social butterfly to participate in fandom. I’ll always and forever be a chronic lurker, I reblog more than I post, I rarely manage to comment on fic, and I go radio silent for months at a time--but I write and post fanfiction. That’s my contribution.
Do you write, draw, vid, gif, or otherwise create? Congrats, you're a community member.
Do you leave comments? Congrats, you're a community member.
Do you curate reclists? Congrats, you're a community member.
Do you maintain a fandom blog or fuckyeah blog? Congrats, you're a community member.
Do you provide a space for other fans to convene in? Congrats, you're a community member.
Do you regularly send asks (off anon so people know who you are)? Congrats, you're a community member.
Do you have fandom friends who you interact with? Congrats, you're a community member.
There’s lots of ways to be a fan. Just make sure to respect and appreciate your fellow fans and the work they put in for you to enjoy and the gift economy fandom culture that keeps this community going.

i have a proposition to make to the fire emblem fandom in regards to ai bullshit: we makalov the face of the anti-ai movement depending on how different systems are set up, be it for those who write, those who draw, etc, there are likely ways to rig the system to overload the systems with specific things which is why i suggest we use makalov for this those who have played the tellius duology know he isnt exactly the greatest guy, and also know that mod goldmary seems to be the exception not the rule when it comes to how people view him as a character, so when people try to cheat by using stolen work feed to an ai to create some garbage about fire emblem? they can never escape that piece of shit no matter how hard they try, they'd be lucky if they even see marth no idea if it still applies but i know tumblr had it set up where each specific blog and side blog needed to go into settings to disable ai feeding, if that is still the case then it should be easy to just create a side blog just for the purposes of fucking with the systems when it comes to art just go nuts, don't have any specific things aside from putting so much makalov dna into the system that it thinks fire emblem lords have pink hair instead of blue, maybe purposefully fuck up the hands and other limbs and whatnot so they can never fully fix that issue meanwhile for writing, oh boy i got ideas, smut writers this is your time to shine! make the most nasty vile shit imaginable(while still being legal ofc just gross) and always include makalov in it, heck maybe mess the system up by ruining the lore on purpose and putting him in games he's not supposed to be in, want to have an ai write a fanfiction about awakening? too bad you lazy sack of shit you'll never escape this pink haired horse man no matter what timeline you try seeing as the purpose of these writings is to mess up any bot trying to create fanfiction this also means those who are horrible when it comes to writing can also join in! purposefully misspell and misuse words, throw proper grammar out of the window, and act like this is just how human language naturally works! also those who are good at writing can also purposefully not write good, though as a writer myself i know that is easier said then done at this point, it isn't meant to be posted to your main accounts but rather an extra expendable account just made for the purposes of ruining ai for fire emblem, or if we're lucky ai in general! tl;dr: it would be really fucking funny if this wretched bastard of a man named makalov became known for being the anti-ai symbol of the fandom
Terrible idea. There's already hundreds of thousands of fe images and fanfics in their database, a few pieces of makalov art and fics will not change much. Also making stuff specifically to ruin ai is just not a smart idea. Make something bc you enjoy it instead.
I know you mean well, but please do proper research before you suggest something like this :(
If you really wanna troll with makalov, then join the makasweep for cyl9 and vote for makalov!

this is a huge problem i’ve been seeing in fic writing, and the internet in general but like
not to be rude but if you’re a writer (or internet user in general) and use non official artwork (meaning not found in game, anime, manga, etc.) please credit the artist!!!!
too much work?? that artist worked a crap ton to make that piece. it has a story. it has a background. they may have spent hours or days on it, etc heck you may even do yourself a favor by seeing more artworks of that character/artworks in that style if you do the extra step of looking it up yknow
please please please don’t just say “found this in pinterest” and make it a day!!
like imagine i just show a screenshot of your fic and not mention who made it at all-
and if you’re stealing ai art that’s a-okay tbh go off just PLEASE CLARIFY THO. If you actually used the ai then just stop ffs you’re literally ruining the livelihood of thousands if not more💀

Hey. Just letting you know that we authors in the Bagginshield and Hobbit Fandom really aren't a fan of people posting blatantly AI generated fic and passing them off as legitimate. We would appreciate it if you would label your fics as AI generated. It's a little insulting to put low-effort computer generations up against the works of artists who really put their heart into their writing. Hope you understand. Thanks.
Hello 👋
I don't know what made you think I use AI but I assure you I don't, my writing style is a different and a little cringey sometimes and I use generic stuff for portraying emotions but it's all done by me, heck you can message me if you wanna see my writing process 🤷
I'm quite baffled because while I can see how it might come off as cringey or plot less, I can assure you I wrote it myself.
I absolutely understand your concern about ai being used in art but trust me, I'm not the type of person to use AI or cheat my way through a craft I've been indulging in for years.
My friend also checked through multiple ai detectors and sometimes it shows 78 % , 95 % , 85 % human while the others says it's 67 % ai and others, which are also somehow operated by ai ? I'm confused, anways my friends have assured me that this is bs.
I've also asked my friends and my beta readers to read it again and tell me if it resembles ai and they've all disagreed, even then to avoid the hate I'll try to change my writing style.
Also maybe don't assume the worst about people ? Idk it just makes you look an asshole yk ? If you don't like my writing that's one thing, hurling hurtful accusations at me is another.
If you wanted conformation you could've messaged me. Anways I will not be indulging anyone on the matter again. Have a great day.

You're so right. Just today, I was literally growing sick from lack of feedback. Heck, the only comment I got was a negative one. It just made me not wanna write anymore. I kinda gave up, which is sad because writing is my hobby. If more people gave another person feedback, the world would be a sweeter place. We should be doing this in general for others too in any place.
Tumblr media
You know what? This wasn't going to be nothing else but me shaking my head like Abe Simpson about how fandom used to be more supportive in my youth, but I've gotten SO MANY MESSAGES LIKE YOURS. That you're unseen, unsupported, treated at the best like some human AI program to bring content, more and more and more and more, which can then be brainlessly consumed like some big budget Marvel movie.
I'm so sorry for all of you! I wish we could make an event or a something where we would gather together and go read each others fics, see arts, see gifs, plushies, patterns, watch Youtube videos and metas and animations, see pixel art, pottery etc. and then we would just comment. Say nice things about these creations other people out there have made.
Such a think used to exist during Livejournal, but the past 10-5 years - and I'm blaming now more Tiktok and IG for this - has made fandom inactive in a way it has never been before. Well, it was a bit harder in the 60's, 70's and 80's, before internet brought us closer together globally, but seriously? I don't recall fandom ever being like this, like hungry little baby birds with their mouth open toward other people like "feed me feed me feed me". It's really sad to witness, especially when I've gotten to live the more active times in my youth and how much the support I got mattered to me, and now I think nowadays kids, teens and young adults who don't have such support.
It's super disheartening. Not for me, but for others. For fandoms. Is it the endless amount of content which has made people so carefree? That no matter what, more stuff will come, even if I didn't even blink towards small creators? If this fandom person stops, then others will continue?
The online support I see the best at these times seems to be in the small fandoms, and because there's so little content. You're so happy and grateful for all small nuggets you get.
If I was still studying, I'd probably make a thesis out of this topic. It feels so multilayered and sadly, increasing.
Or then I'm just an old fart.

hey heeey~ i love your fics:3 what are some of your mareach characterization tips? I love how you write them >w<
Hhhhhhhhhh you’re so sweet, thank you so much 😭😭😭💗💗💗
One of my favorite personal tips, and this works for fanfiction of any kind: when you’re writing dialogue, try to imagine the character you’re writing for actually saying those lines, in their own voice. (Heck, plug it into one of those AI voice changers online if you have a hard time audio-visualizing!) If you can’t imagine those words actually coming out of their mouth, or if it makes you feel uneasy or cringe or just generally doesn’t feel right, then revise it.
I’m not sure if it actually shows in the finished products, but when I write Mario speaking, for example, I arrange his words in such a way that they accommodate a thick Italian accent, even though I don’t write that accent out phonetically. I think I’ve only really alluded to that process in one fic:
Tumblr media
But that’s helped me a lot with keeping characters more in-character while still diving into topics and scenarios their canon material might not normally touch! Voices are a detail that’s so often overlooked since it’s writing and we can make them say whatever we want; get the voice down, and you can pin a character’s mannerisms and quirks and build around them more easily!

Come now, rules are meant to be read~
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ⓘ RULES: This is a DARK SFW + BSD heavy, not spoiler-free blog.
This means that those below 18, AKA minors, are welcome in this space to a certain degree! NOTE! Just because I don’t post PWP, NSFW, and SMUT on this channel that does not mean  ALL content is suitable for ALL ages and publics. Read the warnings carefully!
If you don’t like dark content, cursing, swearing, violence etc then- what the heck are you even doing on a BSD blog? Jesus. Just block me at this point and get on with your day.
ⓘ 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐃𝐍𝐈: if you lack basic common sense: Do I even need to list it all at this point? C'mon you've seen it a million times before and this blog is no exception. In addition, if you cannot separate fiction from real life, like trolling or just being rude, then this place isn’t for you.
ⓘNote! All the profile pictures and other art content is AI-generated using Gencraft. An issue? You know where the block button is.
ⓘ In addition:
 DO NOT claim, plagiarise, repost, translate into different languages, or feed my works into ai. Doing this will just result in a ban and ultimately me hiding my works (again).
DO NOT spam my inbox wondering why I haven’t responded to a request. I get easily overwhelmed, I have other obligations, and I’m just crawling out of a hiatus.
DO NOT ask, demand or request NSFW stuff ON THIS BLOG. All that content is being edited and moving to Miss Cincaide.
DO NOT spam like my inbox, I get that you want to bookmark my stuff but it does nothing but clod my activity box and doesn't give me any indication of what's like and not liked. And it does little to get me new traffic.

Note! that first and foremost this blog is all about fanfiction. It’s done in my spare time, as a hobby and is published in what I consider a safe space. I don’t pump out fics like a machine. I try to stay away from hate, call outs and similar so that I can write and publish my writing here. Every now and then however I may reblog something on here or make a post about the shit-storm going on. Still, this is primarily a fic posting blog, not a moralizing one!

400 Works on AO3 Check In
Well, I’ve now got 400 works on AO3, so it’s time to do a check-in. And oh boy has stuff happened!
To start, I got three of those spam bot comments accusing a fic of mine of being AI generated. I don’t want to spend much time on this because they weren’t actually written by a person and thus don’t reflect fandom. Stii, I got three. A bunch of other people got a bunch. AO3 has been working to address this.
More relevantly, one of my fan fics got roasted on tumblr! The fan fic was A Lap Dance for Mr. Bonzo, in The Magnus Protocol fandom. It’s a fan fic about, well, get this, Mr. Bonzo receiving a lap dance. Someone made a meme about it, and it caught like wildfire. I won’t be linking to the meme, and I will be referring to the person who made the meme as the Meme Maker. For everyone else I talk about in this post, I have redacted their identities. I’m interested in how fandom operates, not putting specific people on blast.
So, let’s begin.
I’ve talked previously about how fandom operates like a panopticon, and others (such as Sarah Z.) have made the same observation. Most of my fan fics don’t get memed. But A Lap Dance for Mr. Bonzo happened to be the one that the light of the guard tower at the center of the panopticon happened to shine upon.
Quickly, for those not in The Magnus Archives fandom, a panopticon is a prison set up where the prison cells are arrayed in a circle around a central guard tower. The light of the guard tower will only be on one cell at a time, BUT at any given time, it can be on ANY cell. Thus, everyone has to act like they might suddenly be in the spotlight at any moment.
The Magnus Protocol fandom was in a bit of an uproar about A Lap Dance for Mr. Bonzo, but The Magnus Archives fandom largely ignored my fan fic A Husbando for Mr. Spider. It currently has only 18 hits, 4 kudos, and no comments. By contrast, A Lap Dance for Mr. Bonzo currently has 379 hits, 58 kudos, and 36 comments.
Why did A Lap Dance for Mr. Bonzo get more attention (for better or worse) than A Husbando for Mr. Spider? Happenchance, basically. The Meme Maker chose to make a meme about one rather than the other. That’s it.
Now, I’m going to get into some of the responses in a minute, but before I do, I want to stress something: A Lap Dance for Mr. Bonzo is not a “problematic” fic by any of the major metrics you hear about in fandom. It doesn’t contain rape, incest, or underage content. It’s not a dark fic. It’d honestly be a stretch to call it transgressive. Hell, the Meme Maker isn’t even an Anti scandalized by its existence. They thought my fic was hilarious and were just trying to be funny on the internet.
My point is, if you are an Anti, I want you to know that there is no content so “safe” that it’ll ensure that the light of the guard tower never shines upon the cell in the panopticon containing you and your fic. Your work will never be so unproblematic, so pure, so perfect that no one objects to its existence. That’s a fool’s game. Just, I want you to understand that.
But let’s talk about the responses to this meme about my fic.
Many of the responses were a sort of feigned outrage. Here are three examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heck, this person even makes it clear that they aren’t being serious by tagging their reblog ‘lighthearted’:
Tumblr media
And there is something social going on here, and that’s boundary marking. The Meme Maker, looking to be funny – and I can hardly fault them for that – made a funny meme about my fic. My fic was then perceived by the fandom as a fic that was beyond the pale. This – sexualizing Mr. Bonzo – was collectively set as outside the bounds of fandom acceptability. So then most everyone had to rush to perform outrage, shock, and horror at my fan fic’s existence. Despite it being honestly pretty tame. (Look, y’all, I wrote a Locked Tomb fan fic about Alecto laying her eggs in John Gaius and then he gives birth to a herd of cattle. For Easter. A murder clown getting a lapdance is tame.)
It's social signaling. “Oh no, I wouldn’t write cursed smut. I’m a good inmate. Don’t turn the spotlight of the guard tower on my cell.” By making my fic the outcast, everyone is asserting that they are part of the in group, that fandom shouldn’t turn upon them. (Which, really, this fandom really ought to recognize, given that the there was an entire Magnus Archives episode about the Hunt where the pack turns on its members one by one.)
When I was, hm, Middle School age, I think? my littlest sister was into Barney. And I HATED Barney. Vehemently and vocally. And what I was doing – what my peers who were doing the same were doing – was signaling that we were Big Kids and too Grown Up to like a baby show like Barney. In reality, Barney was fine. I wasn’t the target demographic, but it was a perfectly serviceable show for my littlest sister. But I was insecure and needed to assert my self as “mature”, so I trashed Barney and Barney fans.
The modern perception of the Anti is rooted in a desire for moral pureness, but it’s this desperate bid for inclusion that underlines it. It’s staking one’s place by identifying what and who “doesn’t belong”.
Very few people spoke up in defense of my fic. A few did, and those fans demonstrated a great deal of bravery in doing so! But most didn’t. Because no one wants to make themselves the next target via drawing attention to themselves by expressing a contrary opinion.
Now, at the end of the day, I don’t actually mind people having a laugh a fic I wrote. I thought the meme the Meme Maker made was hilarious. I don’t think the behavior I just described – the rush to assert in-group-ness at the expense of a scapegoat – is healthy, but my concern there is mostly for the people engaging in that behavior. I’m still writing The Magnus Protocol fan fic like always. Heck, I might even sexualize Mr. Bonzo some more. We’ll see.
But all this brings us back to tumblr’s architecture.
So the thing about tumblr posts is that if a post is rebloggable, anyone you don’t have blocked can reblog it. Rebloggableness is opt-out, not opt-in. Tumblr’s infrastructure is designed to maximize the amount of engagement a post gets because that’s beneficial to advertisers. As posts spread, they can enter what are sort of different “spheres” of tumblr – basically, they can escape containment.
For example, this is what one person wrote in their tags when reblogging the roast post.
Tumblr media
Now, is this person serious?
Actually, let’s ask some different questions.
Is this a genuine death threat being made on tumblr dot com?
No, it is not. I’m not going to pretend like I’m scared for my life here.
BUT…is this person feigning mock outrage like the people above, or are they legitimately upset that my fic exists?
Well, I’m not sure. Tone indicators don’t come across very well on the internet.
But the more a post spreads, the more likely it is that the post is going to land in front of someone who takes things too far.
On this note, there was a phenomenon I noticed when looking at the reblogs of the roast post, and this relates to what I’ve talked about in the past, about different “spaces”.
Alright, so the Meme Maker exercised some genuine responsibility when making the roast post. While the name of my fic was listed, along with indicators that it was on AO3, they cut out my name, and they didn’t provide a link.
Their post got some reblog notes like this:
Tumblr media
Right, so here’s the thing. All it takes to find my fic is to open up AO3, log in, and search for the title. It’s the only fic entitled A Lap Dance for Mr. Bonzo on AO3. It’s not actually hard to find.
Nevertheless, even as the roast post got reblogged and reblogged, there wasn’t anything happening in any of my notifications. People weren’t coming from the roast post to my fic. Because reblogging to feign mock outrage is really easy – tumblr’s architecture facilitates it – but actually looking up my fic would have taken a bit of work. Not a lot – but more than reblogging did.
Then one person did expend that effort. They linked my fic in the comments of the roast post, and all of a sudden, I had people coming from the roast post to my fan fic. And while most of the people were polite, a couple of them left comments that were a little weird.
It was about this point that I asked the Meme Maker to turn off reblogs on the roast post, and they graciously obliged.
This was followed by a bunch of comments on their post of people insulting the Meme Maker for not letting them reblog it, which had the unintended effect of burying the link to my fan fic.
Cue this comment:
Tumblr media
Yeah. This person wasn’t willing to expend the effort of scrolling through the comments to see if the link had already been posted.
Point is, while there are always going to be some people willing to put effort into misbehaving, a lot of shit can be curtailed just by making that behavior a little bit difficult. People act bad when acting bad is easy.
And if we want to make fandom a better place, that’s something we can take advantage of. Social media architecture facilitates bad behavior, but we can do our part not to contribute to that.

To Lift Your Spirits (Alucard x Reader)
Word Count: 1.5k
Description: Reader with unspecified chronic pain gets a special visit. :]
No warnings, just fluff and comfort here!
Author’s Note: This started as a self comfort RP/Fic in AI Dungeon, but I realized that there might be other people in the fandom that would benefit from this kind of comfort piece, so I turned it into a proper fic! I tried to keep discussion of the medical issues vague and general enough, but due to the nature of writing, I also describe it the way I know/experience. So hopefully some of y’all can still relate. To my fellow peeps that struggle with this, and also have this big dorky vamp as a comfort character, this one’s for you~
~~~~~
It was yet another night as a humble servant of the Hellsing organization. Tonight, however, was a bit different.
you hurried through your daily duties and retired to your room much faster than usual. it was one of those nights, your body rebelling against you in a fit of childish anger. you were ready to spend the rest of the evening in bed, waiting for the pain you felt to subside once more.
You shared what you would consider a good friendship with Hellsing's secret weapon. You were one of the few low-level servants that didn't go out of their way to avoid Alucard when he went wandering the manor in search of entertainment. The two of you enjoyed chatting on particularly slow nights, and sometimes you would even accompany him on a walk around the grounds. So it wasn’t too surprising that your behavior tonight would not go unnoticed.
Every so often, Alucard could tell something was off about the way you carried yourself. Whether it was the way you would subtly favor one part of your body over another when moving, the way you would grow a bit quieter, or even the way your smile would look almost tired. Needless to say, it was peculiar. And peculiarity piqued his curiosity. So when he saw that you had gone to your room early, he decided to pay you a visit.
The first thing he noticed as he phased through the wall into your room was that it was dark. You didn’t usually go to sleep this soon, and you hadn’t seemed particularly ill when he saw you last.
A peculiar noise drew his attention to the bed, his gaze falling on the lump of blankets that seemed to be whining in pain. His brows furrowed slightly in confusion and mild concern. Were you sick after all?
The soft sound of rustling caught your attention. You peeked your head out from under your blankets, eyes widening at the shadowy red-eyed figure standing over your bed.
“Gah! What the heck??” you yelped, scrambling into a sitting position. It took you a moment to process what was happening and who it was that had entered your room so creepily. Once your initial shock passed, you scowled in annoyance at the intruder. “Dude, you can’t just waltz into people’s rooms like that. There's a little something called privacy,” you huffed.
“Hm…Privacy is overrated,” Alucard waved off nonchalantly as he approached, not putting much concern into your complaint.
You rolled your eyes. You really weren’t in the mood to put up with anything tonight. “Yeah well…knock or something next time. Some sort of warning would be nice.”
His lips quirked upwards in mild amusement. It was just like humans to pick the most trivial things to obsess over. “A warning? So you can do what?” he asked teasingly as he welcomed himself to a seat next to you on the bed.
You opened your mouth to retort, but nothing came to mind. It wasn’t like you could do much if he really wanted to come in. You groaned, leaning forward and bringing a hand over your eyes. “I don’t know…I…ugh…I’m sorry Alucard, I’m just not really feeling up to talking to anyone right now…” you admitted, discomfort lacing your voice.
He paused, looking you over for a moment and taking in your body language and strained voice. “...You’re in pain,” he said simply, somewhere between a statement and a question. When you didn’t immediately answer, he continued. “Are you hurt?” he asked, voice tinged with concern as he looked you over more critically…He didn’t see any injuries at least.
You cringed. You didn’t really want him to know about your condition. You hated how hard it could be to function sometimes, and the last thing you wanted was for him to think you were pitiful and weak because of it. “N-no…I’m fine,” you tried to reassure him, although it came out half-hearted and not the most convincing.
You froze when you felt his gloved hand rest on your shoulder. While it did seem like the two of you had become closer as of late, you weren’t expecting him to initiate touch. You looked up in surprise to find him studying you closely.
“Clearly that’s not true. Tell me what’s wrong,” he said in a stern but gentle tone, vaguely reminding you of how a father might speak to a child.
You sighed, knowing there was no easy way out of this conversation. “It’s…it’s not a big deal. It’s just…I deal with some medical stuff,” you said, shifting your position to face Alucard before continuing. Not going too into detail, you explained a few of your medical issues and how your chronic pain affected you.
“A-Anyway…so I’m not injured or anything…that’s just sort of the way my body is…” you finished, rubbing your arm awkwardly to try and chase away the anxiety you felt.
“I see…” He hummed in thought. “And you suffer from this all the time?”
“Well…to some extent I guess,” you shrugged. “Some days are worse or better than others.”
Alucard thought this over. Suddenly some of your previously odd behavior began to make sense. He had noticed that you had a bit of a harder time than others doing certain tasks, but he hadn’t considered that you suffered quite like this. He thought over the best way to help you. It did seem like you were too restless from the discomfort to get any proper rest...maybe that's what you needed right now.
The silence that stretched between the two of you only served to make you more anxious. You liked hanging out with Alucard, and you couldn’t bear the thought of him thinking you were pathetic. “So…um…yeah. Anyways, like I said, I’m fine…so-”
“I can help you sleep if you’d like,” he offered, interrupting your nervous rambling. When you gave him a confused look, he continued. “You’re not able to rest, are you? I can help you relax. It would only take a moment.”
You were caught off guard by the suggestion. You didn't think he cared that much. It did sound nice, but you didn't want him to feel like he needed to do something special for you. “Oh…uh…I appreciate the offer, but you don’t need to bother…” you protested, a nervous smile on your face.
He frowned slightly in response. Why were you trying to reject his help? And why did you seem so worried? Before he could say anything, you continued.
"I know I must look like a mess right now… but...uh… you don't need to… you don't need to do anything…" you sighed, looking away.
Alucard's frown deepened as he realized what you meant. "Y/N. Look at me," he ordered in a low tone.
You shyly complied, looking up into his determined eyes.
"You fear I'll think less of you? You fear I'll be repulsed by the state of your body?" He asked, sounding as if he could barely stand even just the idea of it.
You frowned, looking away as your eyes began to water.
Alucard placed a hand under your chin, lifting your gaze back up to meet his. "You should not. The physical flaws of humans only serve to show one's character. If you were free of both, I would find you lacking," he explained gently.
"You mean...you don't think I'm just being pathetic?" you asked with a small sniffle, not fully believing him.
His expression softened and he gave you a small smile. "Of course not. your body is weak, but your spirit is strong. That's what makes you human."
You smiled a genuine smile at that, blinking away the tears as you leaned forward and wrapped him in a hug. You felt his body tense up in surprise as if the action was almost foreign to him. "Thank you…" you muttered, still holding onto him.
There was a moment of awkward silence before he relaxed, slowly wrapping his arms around you and returning the hug. "You're very welcome, my dear…"
Part of you was shocked that he returned the gesture. This was your first time showing such an intimate type of affection towards the vampire, and he easily could have rejected it. Instead, he snuggled you close, attempting to mirror your affection. The two of you stayed like that for a moment before he spoke again.
"Now, look into my eyes… I'm going to help you sleep, alright?" he offered again.
Figuring it couldn’t hurt, you gave a small nod and looked back up into his eyes. They were a burning red, crackling with oranges and yellows like a flame. His eyes seemed to almost glow as the burning red pierced your mind. A tingling numbness quickly spread throughout your body. It felt…nice.
Alucard smirked as he sank his control into your mind, watching your eyes tint red in response to his influence. "Hmm… red really is a lovely color on you…" he mused as he tenderly brushed a bit of hair from your face. He couldn’t help but find your relaxed and blissful expression a bit cute. With a satisfied grin, he leaned in close to your ear. “Sleep now,” he commanded in a whisper. Your body eagerly obeyed, your heavy eyelids slipping shut and your body slumping against him.
He let out a quiet chuckle as he carefully laid you back down on your bed. “Good night…I’ll see you soon~”
And just as suddenly as he appeared, he slipped back into the shadows and disappeared, leaving you to the sweet relief of sleep.
Blakeworther headcanons. I don't have a specific theme or anything in mind. Go ham
Go ham, you say?
GO HAM, YOU SAY?
Sorry not sorry but this is about to become mega cringe time. Because I do *have* a specific set of headcanons preloaded but it is not at ALL what you asked for
I love crossovers, and I want to import the Bastard Trio into my current crossover hell fic. So I was kind of playing with their dynamic in my mind, and one of the ways I test out character dynamics is to send them on little imaginary missions to other crossover worlds in my mind. Now, I’m in the midst of watching a playthrough of Skyward Sword, which I have heretofore not experienced. And I’m not exactly finished with it. But for some mental warm-ups, I was thinking, “Okay. SkSw is the other big fandom I’m trying, and it’s as far from the G4 as you can get, so what if you put three sci-fi guys in a high fantasy setting and watched them go? What if they had to take Link’s journey, except their goal is most certainly not to save anything because they’re swaggering murderers? What would happen then?”
This...is that story. But only up through the part where I watched (the first of the Silent Realms). Maybe a part II later if I keep doing this?
-To blend in, our boys have gotten themselves some Loftwings. While Vincent’s and Victor’s look like ordinary giant shoebills...oh. Oh, dear. Albert...how did you manage to turn it into a Dream Eater so fast? Its beak is white, its feathers are black, it has no eyes and people are STARING.
-Albert refuses to discard or fix the Dream Eater Loftwing. It’s going to be his steed for this entire quest. Joy.
-NOBODY played fair when they had to race against Groose. They teamed up to knock him off his bird and it’s a miracle he survived. Especially since he wasn’t supposed to survive that.
-Like I said, I have no idea what their endgame goal is here because they’re certainly not trying to stop Demise. Or are they? Because they befriend Ghirahim right the heck away and it’s entirely possible they’re like “We’re from the future, this guy will shatter you, you deserve better, please leave Demise in the ground and join our team”
-And when I say they befriend Ghirahim right away I mean ESPECIALLY ALBERT
-Victor loves shopping at the bazaar because he can play-flirt with Peatrice and she’ll flirt right back. Meanwhile if the fortune teller attempts to reel in Vincent ONE MORE TIME there will be blood.
-Vincent Edgeworth is forcibly removed from the Skyloft bazaar
-Victor is the only person who remotely likes Fi, probably because she’s quite visibly supposed to be an AI and he is quite visibly part robot.
-They hit the ground and get going!
-Oh no. Kikwis. They hate Kikwis so much.
-The one that’s up in the tree, the three of them debate how to most quickly get down. Vincent: “We don’t bother and just say we did.” Victor: “If we threw a rock at it, it would fall out.” Albert: “I think we should set the whole tree on fire.”
-They get into the first dungeon, and you know that one segment where you have to vine-swing and the motion controls are so unforgiving? Vincent fell off those vines like twelve times and Victor and Albert lost their shit
-They get the beetle and now that thing’s a Dream Eater, too. Albert please stop doing this
-Back at Skyloft, doing sidequests is their least favorite thing. They do not give a SHIT about Gratitude Crystals if they don’t have to do so. The missing girl’s mom comes up to tell her problems and Vincent just goes “This affects me how?”. The brother says his sister went missing and Victor’s just like “We’ll take care of it!” and as soon as he’s out of earshot “Let’s not take care of it.” Cawlin hands them the love letter to deliver to Karane or Phoeni, Albert rips it in half in front of Cawlin, Cawlin starts bawling, Victor just goes “Actually I kinda wanted to do that one and see if we could start romance drama”
-Into Eldin Province and Mogmas are...only slightly less aggravating than Kikwis
-VINCENT ALMOST EXPLODES WHEN HE LEARNS THE KEY TO THE NEXT DUNGEON IS SPLIT IN PIECES AND HE HAS TO DIG IN THE DIRT FOR IT
-So then there’s that one passage in the valley where if you don’t just book it, your clothes will catch on fire. They blaze through it, and Fi determines that they’ve sustained no damage, which is good, because if they’d been exposed a moment longer, then surely one of them would be naked. Victor, hearing this, promptly tosses some personal item of his back into the high-heat area; “Oops. I dropped it. Go get it, Vincent.” Albert: “YES! GO GET IT, VINCENT!”
-It is only sheer willpower and Victor’s physical restraint that keeps Vincent from beating Ledd to a pulp.
-They actually kinda like hanging around the sacred springs, though. They’re tranquil places. A good way to just...not have to deal with all that noise. They can sit by the water quietly for a while, just watching it ripple.
-And back to business! They enter Lanayru, discover that the Time Crystals can revert this desert into a technological paradise and...yeah, it was way, WAY better in the past than it is now. They poke around some of the tech, taking notes for later in case they can reverse-engineer any of it.
-Dream Eater Beetle has been replaced by a brand-new shiny Hook Beetle! Albert, please don’t turn this one into a - GOD DAMMIT ALBERT. HOW ARE YOU EVEN DOING THIS WITH INANIMATE OBJECTS.
-They get in such a fight about how to place the generator switches. Victor is trying his best but he’s SURE they don’t arrange the way the other two are trying to tell him they arrange
-Every time they pass Ghirahim they stop to chat with him about how the demon uprising is going, also aren’t heroines just so freaking annoying? Zelda, Vanora, why are they always getting in the way?
-Victor of course tries to put the verbal moves on Impa. At this point Vincent and Albert know he just does this for fun, he’s faithful to the two of them, but still, they gotta do the obligatory eyeroll and groan
-”Yes, Victor. She’s very pretty. We’re gay, not blind”
-Vincent actually enjoys playing the Goddess Harp, surprisingly. He can just zone into the music.
-The Imprisoned gets out and hoo boy, they’re really not supposed to be DEFEATING evil just yet but Albert wants to cut off some TOES (and this ends up yielding them knowledge about the Isle of Songs so it’s all good)
-Scrapper annoys them all and visibly offends Victor.
-Vincent likes to use the bellows from the Eldin dungeon to blow away anyone who tries to rope him into a sidequest. Albert then goes “I’ve just realized the potential we have!” and tries to blow people off the edge of Skyloft.
-They hate the remlits until they find out that the remlits go feral at night and now they love the remlits but only after dark
-Into the Thunderhead for the Isle of Songs. And YET AGAIN WE CANNOT AGREE ON HOW TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE THAT LETS US INSIDE
-Down to Faron’s realm to get to the Silent Realm. Once they’re in there and have learned about the guardians...
-Vincent: “Now we have to be CAREFUL and QUICK or else the guardians will expel us immediately, maybe even kill us.” Victor: “You might want to tell him that.” Vincent: “Wh - ALBERT NO”
-Albert is investigating a dormant guardian close-up and decides “I want to take one of these home.”
-Vincent: “NO, Albert, we can’t...hmmmm. Actually, we could probably weaponize them...” Victor: “CAN WE NOT?”
-And then cue them risking life and limb not to get what they even came here for but to pick up AS MANY DARK RELICS AS THEY CAN CARRY
And that’s as far as I’ve watched in SkSw so far. Not sure whether or not I’ll keep using it as a Blakeworther ground, but there, have the AU you *never* wanted
Another Poll!
As y'all are aware, my current daily drabble fic is in its final arc, which means I'm looking for my next daily drabble project. I have some summaries and possible ships here for you folks to look at and vote on to help guide me in my final choice. That said, I am STILL OPEN to ideas and suggestions, pairings and prompts.
So here are a couple summaries I have. Some are wips I have begun but am willing to rework, while others are ideas that have come to mind that would be interesting to write out. Again, nothing is final, and I may latch onto a completely different idea when it is time to write! Also, if you really like an idea but feel it would be better off in a oneshot or chaptered style, say so! I am open to suggestions and thoughts on this.
.
The Good Doctor You should be dead. The mugger was going to kill you when you had the audacity to be broke like nearly every other working class gal or gent in Ebbot City. But then HE intervened. A young nursing student by the name of Papyrus. You weren’t expecting a monster to save you, much less heal your wounds. But he did.
And suddenly, in that moment, your simple little life of just trying to make ends meet is turned upside down. As they say, the path to hell is paved with good intentions.
Modern!Mafiatale | Dark Romance | Multiship
(Can be Reader fic or Frisk centric (or heck, I'm even willing to throw poor UT!Sans into the mix as a possible MC in the name of rare pairs) | MC/Sans MC/Papyrus MC/Gaster | Modern day | Monsters were never underground? | Rated M for potentially dubious themes)
.
Just Survive Sans just wanted to see his brother alive again. He wasn’t expecting to be drop kicked sideways into a literal hellscape where his only hope at survival rests in the claws of his paranoid, shark-toothed alternate. At least he has a version of Papyrus back in his life. Even if he is a squalling babybones.
Kustard | Dark Fic | Babybones
(I have a starter written, but I am willing to rework/rewrite to fit a 100 word a day style. Rated M for strong dubious or potenially non-con themes and other Underfell BS. Happy ending possibly not possible, but bad fics are fun to write too.)
.
Artifice “Who are you? What are you?”
“i am the sentient artificial neurological system, but the doc generally refers to me as s.a.n.s.”
When Gaster dies unexpectedly, Papyrus accidentally unearths troubling secrets about the mysterious genius that was his father. Among them is an advanced AI named Sans. Why would he keep such an amazing invention hidden? What is Project ARTIFICE?
And what exactly does it mean to be alive?
Sans/Papyrus | Drama | Slowburn (maybe?)
(Can be either romantic or platonic | Probably T rating for some slavery/slave mentallity/dubious ethics issues since Sans is an AI and y'know, programming, free will and all that | Are the monsters underground? Were they once underground but freed before Papyrus was born? THINKING)
. VOTE HERE!
I was just watching WALL-E and wondered if there are sterek stories similar to it? Or maybe just kinda futuristic?
No Wall-E but here’s some futuristic!sterek. - Anastasia
Assisted Living by Drapetomania
(1/1 I 926 I General)
After the war between robots and humans ends, all that is left for Derek is to hide away with Stiles, an AI he designed. But how does it truly end?
aka: a very short angsty ficlet inspired by a bunch of random things that gave me spontaneous feels
I'll give you the moon by sssssssim
(1/1 I 14,444 I Mature)
The second Stiles stepped out of the shuttle and onto the cement of Red Vine, he took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He stayed like that for a few seconds, mentally reciting a poem his mother taught him when he was little.He was finally here. After years and years of trying his best, Stiles finally landed on Mars.
Show You What All That Howl Is For by skoosiepants
(1/1 I 14,609 I Teen)
Teen Wolf/SGA team-fic, with Lydia being awesome.
“This is a terrible idea,” Stiles tells the room again. “You’ll all be sorry when Derek pushes me off a cliff.”
REM-DAC by clotpolesonly
(6/? I 43,729 I Mature)
Derek had a lot of questions, but the most concerning by far was: “What the hell is a rem-dac?”
Kira and Lydia exchanged a loaded look that did absolutely nothing to reassure him. Lydia flipped her hair over her shoulder, settled that unsettling white gaze on him, and said, “It’s a colloquial abbreviation of ‘remote deactivation device’. Which is a polite euphemism for a device that a secondary party can use to terminate you at will and from any distance.”
"In trying to remove the activated device,” Kira went on, “there’s every chance that it would release the rest of the poison into your system.”
“And kill you,” Lydia finished for her. “But there’s another way.”
“Not if we don’t have a ‘path,” Kira said, voice suddenly low like she thought that would keep Derek from hearing. “Which we don’t.”
Lydia hummed thoughtfully. The white rings of her memory mods glowed brighter, nearly eclipsing the rest of her eyes entirely as she reviewed whatever footage or data she had stored there. “We might,” she said.
“What?” Kira asked. “Who?”
“Stiles.”
Stiles has simple goals in life. To successfully complete his secret radar project without getting fired, to get a cottage on the Moon, and to untangle his mess of feelings for Moon Station 3 deputy, Derek Hale. Heck, he'll even settle for two of the three.
“What the hell kind of a name is Stiles?” he asked.
“You know, a series of sounds spoken in a particular sequence that represent my identity, primarily, referring to me?“ the AI – Stiles – answered cheekily, crossing his own arms in front of his chest, mirroring Derek’s position.
“Ooh, this one’s feisty,” Peter smirked.
Blogland,
This is a post I’ve been planning and stewing on for the better part of six months. It came about as most things do for me, I experienced something that made me ask a question. I was at the West Salem Branch Library, my usual workplace, and I was in the stacks shelving fiction. As I went down the aisle, placing books in their respective places, I noticed that I shelved multiple Science Fiction classics in the general fiction section. Greats like Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, Huxley’s Brave New World, Daniel Keyes’ Flowers for Algernon, and Orwell’s 1984 were all cataloged G-FIC. And not just in my library, but in almost every other library in our consortium of 19 public libraries!
Tumblr media
Ooooh. Shiny….
Initially, I was a bit miffed. Why were some of the most celebrated books in Science Fiction history having their genre erased? Both Fahrenheit 451 and Flowers for Algernon have won Hugo awards (the oldest Science Fiction and Fantasy award in the country), and Keyes’ novel also won a Nebula (the most prestigious of SFF awards, depending on who you ask), but if you visits the Salem Public Library, you won’t find them with their Speculative peers.
I had to know why, so I emailed the Collection Development Librarian at Salem Public Library to learn more. Now, I work with Emily Byers on a number of projects at the library and knew she would answer my question with the care and thoroughness she exhibited in her daily work. I didn’t expect a two page email that detailed all the possible factors that Selectors and Catalogers must consider before deciding where to place a book in the library.
And while she admits that cataloging is both an art and science that is “ultimately subjective”, she outlined some of the criteria she used to decide on genre placement versus general fiction.
Factors range from the librarian specific, Bib Records and BISAC subjects from the vendor, to the discretionary, such as Reader’s Advisory considerations (who would want the book, and how can we make it easier for them to find it?) and how closely a text adheres to genre specific tropes. “In more ambiguous cases I would consider the work as a whole — for example, it may have a science fiction element (i.e. technology that’s not currently available), but without separate world building or other SF elements beyond a future setting, I might put that book in general fiction where it might be found by more readers.”
Hard to be riled up about books being more generally accessible. I mean, that’s the whole point of libraries; to provide services and access to materials. Emily even offered up some reference titles for further research on the topic if I was interested, which I totally am, so she even offered ease of access to me! She really opened my eyes to the work and consideration that goes into selecting and cataloging materials, especially in a library as big as ours, with over 500,000 circulating materials!
Tumblr media
Salem Public Library is a big place, with three levels!
But what really stuck with me from this conversation was an even larger question: what purpose does genre really serve?
In the sense of the library, having collections divided into genres helps facilitate patron searches. For instance, I know that I like to read Science Fiction and Fantasy, but I also know that I’m not as well-versed in the genre as I’d like to be. I can go to the library, find the section I want, and then browse with relative confidence that I will find something that will pique my interest. And I have, on multiple occasions.
But as a writer, why do we write in genres? And how do the two functions of genre, from a writing and reading perspective, gel together?
These are, of course, completely subjective questions. My answer will be wildly different from yours. I read SFF because I love the awe and sense of wonder I get from reading something born from someone else’s imagination. Something I could have never come up with myself. Like pretty much every aspect of N.K. Jemisin’s novels, the setting of Sam J. Miller’s Blackfish City, and pretty much all of Sanderson’s magic systems. I read SFF because it helps me expand my own creativity and strive to write beyond my own perceived limitations.
But, I write SFF for different reasons. I don’t think there’s just one, and I think the reasons will grow and change as I do over the years. Right now, I’m experimenting with analyzing emotions and human motivations, and seem to be most comfortable doing so through a more removed lens, like that of an AI or non-human being. I think I write SFF because I tend to feel a bit separate from my peers, and have found an angle into expressing that isolation within the tropes of Science Fiction and Fantasy.
And thanks to all my reading, I’m learning to build imaginative worlds, invent complex magic systems, and tell stories from perspectives I may not have personally experienced along the way.
I also think that, by writing genre fiction, my stories and their themes are more likely to find readers with similar interests and concerns as myself. By writing genre fiction I may very well limit my audience, but I think I also increase my chances of proving successful with my readership, because we all know, at least a tiny bit, what the heck we’re getting into when we crack open those pages.
Tumblr media
I giggled at this.
Does genre fiction have an advantage over general or literary fiction when it comes to discussing and exploring themes of humanity? I don’t necessarily think so. I think genre fiction has an advantage to me, because it’s the content I’m drawn to, and only the content we ingest actually has the opportunity work its magic on us.
So yes, I was initially peeved to see so many of Science Fiction’s giants shelved in General Fiction, as if the genre had been shorn from their spines because they had ascended from the hive of scum and villainy that so many people think is genre fiction. But, ultimately, placing them in with general fiction makes those titles easier to find for people who might not otherwise think to read them. And that’s a really good thing. Any time a book finds itself in a patron’s hands, that’s a good thing.
Can confirm: this is RA in a nutshell.
A great thing is when the patron comes back, excited and enthralled, asking, “Do you have anything else like this?”
Nothing feels better than knowing a book suggestion was a hit with the patron and then launching into a discussion of what they liked about it and what they’d like to get out of their next read. That’s what I really love about my job; I get to talk about books with members of my community and help them find their new favorite authors.
And the day I get to show someone that there’s an entire section of the library they might like, the day I can introduce them to Genre Fiction, and they’re world broadens just that little bit more? That’s the best day.
Took me a lot of time to think for a respond but I finally found it. But my wording may not be the best.
When it comes to TWST, I think we can agree that this is a visual novel-esque. We can treat the Episodes as the Character Routes and the prologue as Common Route. This is just a reminder that TWST is not a dating sims or otome game.
Putting that intro aside, TWST does have it’s quirk: having a gender neutral protagonist. In many VN and otome games, the protagonist is either male or female. With the gender neutral mc from TWST, we can easily put ourselves or our oc inside the mc role. And when we put ourselves in the mc shoes, there will be different view in seeing the characters.
This is where many fans diverge. When it comes to Malleus, I admit that he’s not my favorite characters. I like all boys but Malleus is not in the same caliber as Riddle or even Sebek. I just don’t vibes with emo goth-type. I do agree that the interactions between Malleus and Yuu needs more (both in time and spices), but I disagree that their first meeting is a “meeting of fate”. By saying that Malleus and Yuu first meeting is “by fate”, it kinda cemented that Malleus and Yuu are destined to be together, which I honestly against. And, going back to the different view, if I myself find a student wandering around my yard, no matter how handsome he is in everyone else standard, I would report it to a teacher. In my opinion, the first meeting is fine. It’s awkward, it’s funny, it’s random, just like how two random teenagers meet.
As we both had said, Malleus and Yuu relationship won’t be that meaningful if they barely knew and trust each other. That is I think the greatest weakness in future Diasomnia Episode. With how little Malleus and Yuu interact in previous chapters (not to mention they never meet each other in the Card Story from my knowledge and the other two event featuring Malleus doesn’t focus on him), shoving everything in Episode 7 can be a make-or-break moment. I do wish that by Episode 7 Malleus and Yuu can be genuine friends, but not romantically because of reason I stated in the original post.
But, kudos on you for exploring the relationship between your Yuu and Mallues. While the original post is an exploration in canon relationship, I do like seeing the oc/canon ones. My MC and Malleus has early relationship as well, but they’re more akin to brotherly rather than romantic and has more moments together than canon. It’s really a personal taste that I prefer platonic compare to romantic.
I do want to say something that I probably not clear in the original post. When it comes to MalleYuu, people always kin to romantic. This goes to other boys. Why does every time we talk about MC relationship with the boys, it might leans more to romantic? Not only with canon Yuu, but fanon Yuu and OCs. Platonic relationship exist as well, but people seems to prefers the romantic one. This is not me shaming on people who wants a reverse harem or otome vibes from it. You can make any fic you want. But when it comes to canon,  Twisted-Wonderland is more of the character bonding between the boys. You know, just dudes being dudes. Malleus and Yuu, as you’ve said, can be just friends without any romantic trace. Heck, I don’t think there’s ever any hint of romance in the character, with exception of Rook toward Vil, but we can see that as adoration as well.
(To put a salt in thi to general audience: why is it always reverse harem or otome? can’t it be shonen-ai? Do you assume that the players are definitely female? That’s pretty exclusive cishet of you. Do we really want to go down that rabbit hole as well?)
Captain Talks About Some Writing Things - About MalleYuu and is this ship even possible?
Tumblr media
With Ignihyde Arc finally reaching its conclusion and the Shroud Brothers giving us their sweet, sweet angst, the last dorm we need to go through is Diasomnia. Even though we just had a drama surrounding its uniform, it seems that it didn’t stop any of us from loving this boy.
Speaking of loving, as we know, Malleus Draconia is the poster boy of Twisted-Wonderland, thus certainly he gains a lot of attention from the players despite not appearing that much in the main story, to the point of some fans ships him with Yuu/The Player.
Today, we will be going through the possible romatic relationship between Malleus and Yuu. We’re going to see how many times they’ve interacted and is it even possible to ship them under in-game circumstances.
However a fair warning: This will be a deep dive between Malleus and Yuu/The Player, not OC Yuu! If your OC Yuu is shipped with Malleus, it’s fine. We’re here just to see the canon interactions, not headcanons or fanfics. Also, there will be spoiler since we’re following the JP update instead of EN. In addition, I’m not the best in researching, all of the translation can be found either in the wiki, Tumblr, or various sources. I’ll try my best to link it down, but any mistake in interpretation is mine.
Without further ado, let’s begin.
.
