Heavy Equipment Inspection Checklist Before and After Operation
What are the heavy equipment inspection checklist before and after operation?Operators of construction machineshave a huge impact on their personal safety and the safety of everyone else on the job site, as well as the maintenance costs and life of the machines they employ. All of this strength stems from the ability to conduct quick but thorough heavy equipment inspections both before and after operations.
These checks are essential for worker safety near machinery and are an important component of preventive maintenance. Before and after getting into any taxi, operators should glance at and for the items listed below. Of course, some heavy equipment has unique parts, functionality, or other variables that demand specialist inspection regions; for specific instructions and recommendations, see the machine’s operator’s manual.
It should also go without saying that equipment that show signs of damage or have any other issues should not be used until the situation is fully resolved. Nonetheless, we stated it. Because it is crucial.
Checklist for Heavy Equipment Inspections
Make sure there are no apparent leaks or pools of fluid under the machine; if there are, the cause must be identified, and the leak fixed.
Examine the tires, rims, and undercarriage for dirt or debris accumulation, excessive wear, and any visible damage. These issues can cause major safety risks and reduce the machine’s performance.
Check the fluid levels to ensure that there is adequate engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant, diesel, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), and other essential fluids, as they are the lifeblood of any piece of heavy equipment; too little, and performance suffers, and there’s a chance of costly damage.
Remove any dirt, mud, debris, and materials from around the radiator and other engine parts, as well as from the engine compartment; all engine parts must be able to move, breathe, and cool properly, but any foreign matter might obstruct this.
Examine the air, gasoline, oil, and other filters for damage or leaks; replacing a faulty filter is usually inexpensive and simple, but that isn’t always the case with the harm that untreated filter problems can do.
Check the fan, alternator, and other belts for wear, frays, or other damage; much like with the filters, it’s far better if belt problems are identified and fixed early in terms of machine downtime and expense.
To guarantee smooth, efficient operations and prevent undue wear and damage, inspect the heavy equipment’s greasing points, grease joints, and high-friction locations as needed. The grease points and frequency are detailed in every operator’s manual.
Check hydraulic connections, pressure, and the complete coupling structure; remember to let go of pressure while removing attachments.
Check buckets, teeth, and other ground tools for breaks or damage; these issues can severely restrict productivity, as well as fuel efficiency and safety, and can lead to structural wear and damage.
Check for a flush and fully engaged coupler, as well as securely linked hydraulic hoses and electrical connections, on the attachment mount-up.
Take a few minutes to inspect the machine’s whole structure for wear, damage, and other issues.
Check the operator’s cab for anything that doesn’t belong and remove it.
Before beginning operations, inspect the operator controls, indicator and warning lights, and make sure lighting and safety features such as the backup alarm and rear-view camera are operational; inspect and set the mirrors for best visibility.

Performing regular preventive maintenance increases the life of excavators, assures efficiency, reduces unnecessary downtime from failures, and saves money by enhancing operations and productivity of the machine. Keeping your excavator fluids topped up is a key part of preventative maintenance. It can be helpful to periodically check the tracks to make sure they are safe to use and secure. One of the best ways to do this is to grease all the moving parts regularly to keep them operating smoothly. Even though excavator manufacturers have different service agreements for every model, there are some universal rules. The lifeblood of your machine is fluids, particularly diesel fuel, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), engine and transmission oil, hydraulic fluid, and coolant. Particularly now that more and more advanced technologies are being used in the construction of equipment, these fluids demand extraordinary attention. Follow the manufacturer's Operation & Maintenance Handbook when it comes to maintaining and choosing equipment fluids. The handbook contains suggested fluid intervals and suggested original equipment manufacturer (OEM) fluids, and it goes into great depth about how to maintain the machine. The last thing you need in your storage tanks for storing diesel fuel, oils, coolants, and hydraulic fluids is water, dust, or debris. These impurities may weaken a fluid's chemical composition and cause issues with pumps, filters, and injectors. Komatsu Selected For Lunar Construction Project | Heavy Hunt
Tumblr media
A proposal by Komatsu has been chosen as an eligible target of technology related to autonomous construction on the moon.
The proposal, the Development of Digital Twin Technology for Lunar Construction Equipment, was submitted to the Project for Promoting the Development of Innovative Technologies for Outer Space Autonomous Construction. The Project is lead-managed by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) with collaboration by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology.
The project is part of MLIT’s Strategic Program for Accelerating Research, Development, and Utilization of Space Technology (Stardust Program).
Under the leadership of the Council of Promoting the Development of Innovative Technologies for Autonomous Construction, an inter-ministry collaboration body, all selected companies and organizations will conduct research and development of their individual technologies, according to Komatsu.
In the ongoing three-year, mid-term management plan, to be completed in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022, Komatsu is working to achieve safe, highly productive, smart, and clean workplaces of the future by advancing products (automation and autonomy of machines) and processes (optimization of construction operations). Concerning the selected Development of Digital Twin Technology for Lunar Construction Equipment, Komatsu will utilize accumulated technologies in both products and processes.
In a press release, Komatsu noted the complicated nature of construction on the moon’s surface and suggested that digital twin technology can precisely recreate site conditions and machines.
To develop this technology, Komatsu will conduct a feasibility study to verify the possibility of developing high-precision digital twin technology, the basic technology of lunar construction equipment. Specifically, Komatsu will create and operate a hydraulic excavator in cyberspace and compare its movements with actual equipment on Earth to verify the simulator’s precision. Komatsu will also set the surface conditions of the moon as cyberspace, and check the movements of the excavator in the simulator in order to identify the issues facing our lunar equipment.

Rokbak Cold Weather Kits Enhance Performance Of Articulated Haulers In Below-Freezing Temperatures
Tumblr media
Rokbak has released two new cold weather protection kits that enable safe machine operation in extremely cold weather and reduce maintenance costs for the RA30 and RA40 articulated haulers.
Two different cold weather protection kits are available. The Winter Kit protects articulated haulers working for prolonged periods in temperatures down to -25°C (-13°F), while the Arctic Kit enables safe operation in temperatures as low as -40°C (-40°F).
Engine-independent heater protects components even after the workday is done
In both kits, haulers are fitted with a thermo-heater, which circulates coolant around the machines’ critical components when the engine is turned off. This engine-independent heater can keep a hauler’s vital components at a set temperature for hours after the end of the working day, ensuring an easier restart when it’s time to begin the next shift.
The technology employs an environmentally friendly start-stop system that consumes small amounts of diesel while contributing to lower non-productive fuel consumption, reduced engine wear and tear, and less downtime. This helps to minimize the environmental impact and slash operating costs overall.
“Ensuring our haulers are always ready to work and can start up quickly in extreme cold is crucial to protecting customers’ productivity and profitability. The kits also make life more pleasant and comfortable for operators, who are likewise able to work more efficiently and productively,” said Thomas Schmitt, Rokbak’s Customer Support Manager for Europe, Russia, and CIS countries.

Winter maintenance tips for articulated haulers
In addition to an extreme cold weather protection kit, Schmitt also recommends Rokbak customers use arctic fuel with a maximum cloud point of 6°C (10°F) as standard diesel fuel is prone to gelling or waxing in cold weather. Users should carry out regular maintenance inspections too.
Cooling systems on Rokbak haulers, especially the coolant reservoir and hoses, should be inspected weekly throughout the winter. This does much more than simply stop the cooling system from freezing; it also increases the boiling point temperature, confines cavitation, averts corrosion, and lubricates shaft seals.
“Make sure the cooling system is adequately protected from the elements and that the coolant in the radiator is filled to the cap. In extremely low temperatures, the ratio of ethylene glycol antifreeze to water should be 60 to 40 to stop the water freezing and creating stress in the engine,” Schmitt explained.
Tire inflation pressure, meanwhile, should be checked at least every two weeks, as well as for any cracking or chunking. Removing any debris, grease, or oil from the tires will also help minimize wear and prolong their life.
Also Read:- https://motita.co/a-guide-to-marijuana-legalization-in-the-united-states/
If a Rokbak hauler is being stored for an extended period over the winter, it should ideally be kept under cover or the tires should be protected from the elements by an opaque waterproof covering. The tires should also be blocked up so that the weight of the machine is not resting entirely on them. Batteries must also be stored where they will be protected from extreme temperatures — attempting to charge a frozen battery will often cause it to explode.
“Rokbak customers working in tough conditions don’t have to accept lower uptime. By installing the correct extreme cold weather protection kit for their needs and carrying out regular checks and maintenance, customers can continue working productively and profitably with the same levels of Rokbak reliability and performance throughout the year,” Schmitt concluded.
