I love academic myths. they prove that nobody fuckin reads as much as they pretend to.
a lot of people, including The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll, claim that William Burroughs came up with "heavy metal" in Naked Lunch, but those words don't actually appear in that book.
it's just a citation of a wrong citation repeated over and over until it's "common knowledge"

History of the PMRC (TL;DR)
Originally published in The Lost Art of Pearl Clutching September marked the 38th anniversary of the creation of the Parent Music Resource Centre (PMRC) and the Parental Advisory Label (PAL) program. For those of you who don’t obsess over 1980s “Washington Wives” and their disdain for rock music… and Cindy Lauper apparently, then here is a not-so-quick run down.  As the story goes, in December…

73-year-old openly gay lead singer of one of the first two heavy metal bands in history, Rob Halford, rides his motorcycle onto the stage in a personalized battle jacket to perform "Hell Bent for Leather". He has a riding crop between his teeth, a proud symbol of his queerness, biker history, and membership to the BDSM community.
Judas Priest has been touring for over 50 years and, alongside Black Sabbath, INVENTED Heavy Metal in the late 60s and throughout the 70s and 80s to now. In fact, their most recent album came out in 2024! Invincible Shield.
They're my dad's second favorite band and my all-time favorite. I've seen them three times and I'm honestly hoping he retires soon to enjoy his life, husband, and many cats.
Anyway, here's to the Metal God.

ok i'm actually so fucking tired of how people view Sabaton.
Sabaton, as a band, has their songs focused around the stories (and often heroism) of individual soldiers and sometimes major battles or events. They take a "there's heroes everywhere" approach to this, where deaths are deaths, regardless which side they're on. Is this a perfect approach? No, and it's given them a shitty fanbase.
Sabaton isn't pro-fascist, and it isn't even pro-war. Joakim could literally go on the mic and scream "War is hell, there is no glamour to it, but some soldiers have managed to make the best out of a horrible situation" and their fans would still think they're the cool edgy pro-war band they want them to be. I know this because of the song "Great War", one of their biggest hits, literally says that.

208. To Mega Therion - Celtic Frost (Thrash/Death/Black Metal, 1985)
Art by Hans Rudolf Giger (1940-2014) : "Satan I"
For his participation in the movie "Alien" he won an Oscar for best visual effects in 1980.
Giger suffered from night terrors and his paintings are all, to some extent, inspired by his experiences with that particular sleep disorder. - he also claims to be only working at night.

The story of the first Led Zeppelin concert recording
Tumblr media
Led zeppelin is a diamond of Rock music- the purest water
The first ("known to science") Led Zeppelin concert recording appeared back in the period when not everyone could even immediately remember their name, and the team's debut record has not yet been released. On December 30, 1968, Led Zeppelin opened for the Americans from New York, Vanilla Fudge, who were at the peak of their popularity that year.
The venue was Gonzaga University in the American city of Spokane (Washington State), it is, remarkably, considered Catholic, and named after a saint named Aloysius Gonzaga of the Jesuit Order, the patron saint of youth and students. If they only knew what Led Zeppelin's lyrics might be about! A concert was held in one of the buildings on campus, to be precise, in the John F. Kennedy Pavilion (built in 1965). By the way, it was cold sub-zero weather outside.
This is what John F. looks like. The Kennedy Pavilion is equipped.
Tumblr media
And so inside in 1965.
Tumblr media
The cheapest concert ticket cost three dollars (now, and the most expensive - five
The setlist of the performance was as follows:
"Train Kept A Rollin'"
"I Can't Quit You"
"As Long As I Have You"
"Dazed And Confused"
"White Summer"
"How Many More Times"
"Pat's Delight"
As you can see, of the seven tracks, only three will be released on the debut album in just two weeks. Such a number of "non-album" tracks speaks to the level of musicians who enjoyed live performances rather than playing a standard set of songs.
The concert was recorded by the simplest amateur method on a cassette, so the recording quality is far from ideal, and sometimes you can even hear a hell of a mess.
youtube
A very funny story is also connected with this concert - Led Zeppelin was named Len Zefflin in an advertisement. One can only guess why the band's name has been distorted so much.
Tumblr media
That's how you imagine American students waking up with a hangover and asking,
"Well, how was Len Zefflin yesterday?"

Moebius' failed attempt to create the first feature-length CG animated film.
The late & great comic book artist Jean Giraud/Moebius of The Incal, Arzach, & Blueberry fame partnered with animation company VideoSystem to create a CG animated film called Starwatcher in the early 90s. A short film was created to pitch it to film studios & investors. Had it been picked up, it could've been the first feature-length CGI film.
I found a YT upload of a segment in HD & a Vimeo upload of the entire short film, but it's sadly in a lower quality.
