You’ve known Ruben for a couple of years now and though he’s known as the rock of Manchester City’s defense, to you, he’s just your goofy, overly competitive friend. You met at a mutual friend’s barbecue and despite his intimidating presence on the field, you quickly found out that off the pitch, Ruben was full of sarcasm, bad jokes and a surprising love for random trivia.
One lazy afternoon, the two of you had planned to hang out at your apartment.. nothing fancy, just a chill day. When the doorbell rang, you opened the door to find Ruben standing there, holding a bag of snacks in one hand and a giant stuffed shark in the other.
You raised an eyebrow. “What’s.. that?”
He gave you a wide grin, lifting the shark up like it was a trophy. “It’s Jaws.”
You blinked, utterly unimpressed. “You named a shark Jaws? Really? That’s the best you could come up with?”
“It’s classic!” he said, walking past you into the apartment as if carrying a giant shark was the most normal thing in the world. “And I didn’t name it. The shark spoke to me.”
You crossed your arms and followed him. “Oh great. Now you’re talking to stuffed animals. This is why you need more rest days.”
He flopped down on the couch, plopping the shark on the cushion next to him. “Don’t be jealous of my new friend, okay? He’s more supportive than you’ve been lately.”
“Supportive? Me?” you snatched the shark off the couch and held it in front of you like a shield. “I’m not the one tackling people for a living, Mr. Brick Wall.”
He chuckled, leaning back into the couch. “Hey.. you know it’s not all tackles. I’m delicate. Refined.”
You burst out laughing. “Ruben, I’ve seen you bulldoze through players like a truck. Where’s the delicate part? Was it when you almost took someone’s head off with a header last week?”
“Look, headers are an art form, alright?” he pointed at you dramatically. “You wouldn’t understand the nuance.”
“Oh the nuance?” you said, collapsing into a chair across from him, still clutching the stuffed shark. “Tell me more about the nuance of body-slamming people into the ground.”
Ruben crossed his arms and smirked. “You know, you’re really mean to me sometimes. I’m starting to think you don’t appreciate how much joy I bring into your life.”
“Joy? Is that what we’re calling it now?” you said, tossing the shark back at him. “I thought it was more of a.. chaotic mess situation.”
He caught the shark effortlessly and cradled it like it was precious. “Admit it, you’d be bored without me.”
You rolled your eyes. “Sure. Because my life was so empty before a giant man-child started showing up at my door with questionable stuffed animals.”
“Hey.. don’t insult Jaws like that. He has feelings, you know.”
You gave him a flat look. “You’re scaring me a little with how attached you are to that thing.”
He leaned in, eyes narrowing playfully. “You know, for someone who pretends to be so cool, I’m pretty sure I saw a stuffed penguin on your bed last time I was here.”
You blanched. “That’s.. different.”
“Oh is it? Care to explain?”
“It’s nostalgic!” you protested. “I’ve had it since I was a kid.”
“And Jaws is nostalgic for me.” he said, feigning seriousness. “Reminds me of all the shark movies I watched as a kid. Don’t judge me.”
You snorted. “Fine. You win this round, Dias.”
“I always win.” he said with a grin. “But thanks for admitting it.”
Before you could respond with something snarky, Ruben suddenly jumped up from the couch. “Wait, I almost forgot!” he rummaged through the bag he brought and pulled out a random assortment of snacks and.. a box of trivia cards.
You eyed the cards suspiciously. “What’s that?”
He wiggled his eyebrows. “Prepare to be defeated.”
“Oh no..” you groaned, already knowing where this was going. “We are not doing trivia again. Last time, you cheated!”
“I did not cheat!” he gasped, looking mock-offended. “I just.. knew the answers. It’s not my fault I’m full of random knowledge.”
“You Googled the answers!” you shot back.. laughing. “Mid-round! I saw you.”
“That’s called resourcefulness.” he said, sitting back down and opening the box. “Come on, just one round. I’ll play fair this time.”
You sighed, shaking your head. “Fine. But I’m not letting you get away with it again.”
As he dealt out the first card, you squinted at him. “What’s the theme this time?”
He glanced at the card and smirked. “Sports.”
“Are you serious?” you groaned dramatically. “You do this for a living and you want to play sports trivia?”
“Don’t worry.” he said, eyes twinkling. “I’ll go easy on you.”
You shot him a glare. “If you go easy on me, I swear I’ll..”
“Okay okay!” he held up his hands in surrender. “No going easy. I promise.”
The next half-hour was spent bickering over trivia questions, accusing each other of cheating and laughing way too much over the ridiculousness of it all. At one point, Ruben got a question wrong about football and you just about fell off the chair laughing.
“Oh my god, you’re literally a football player and you didn’t know that?” you wheezed.
“I’m a defender! They didn’t teach us this stuff in defender school!” he said.. trying and failing to keep a straight face.
By the time the trivia game ended, you both were sprawled out on the couch, exhausted from laughing. You looked over at him, smiling.
“You know, for a professional athlete, you’re really bad at trivia.”
He grinned back, throwing an arm around the stuffed shark. “Maybe. But I’m great at making you laugh.”
And, annoyingly enough, he was right.

Haland presses the double! The ship invaded the hammer 2-0
Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City beat West Ham 2-0 on the opening day of the Premier League season.
English Premier League Football
West Ham 0 - Man City 2
Stadium: London Stadium
Opening 3 minutes, the Hammers greeted first. Pablo Fornals opened the corner kick into the corner of the meeting point. Mishail Antonio shakes off the spear to hit the ball over the crossbar.
Then the reigning champion started the game and continued to invade. Joao Canzelo dribbled up to pay in the middle for Kevin De Bruyne to find a shot in front of the penalty area, not much out of the box.
Before half an hour, the hosts had to replace the goalkeeper after Lukasz Fabianski was injured and unable to continue playing, had to send Alphonse Areola into the post instead.
36 min. Blues got a penalty when Alphonse Areola to catch Erling Haaland fell into the penalty area and Haaland got up to volunteer to shoot himself, missed the corner. It was the Norwegian striker's first goal with a new agency, helping Manchester City lead 1-0 and end the first half with this score.
Back on the field to fight, Khun Shen, speeding up the game, attacking more, Declan Rice hit the penalty area, the ball jumped over the crossbar. Next, Manuel Lanzini tried to find a channel to hit the distance from the block, unfortunately.
In 57 minutes, the defenders made two changes in a row, removing Manuel Lanzini and Mishail Antonio and replacing Said Benrahma and Gianluca Skamacca, respectively.
The reigning champion บาคาร่าออนไลน์ narrowly got a goal away from Kevin De Bruyne, swooping in to get the ball on the edge of the line and slashing into the middle of the goal. Haaland didn't reach the charge, falling into the way of Ilkay Gundoane, playing the way off the far post, not much.
Picture of the game, open, exchange, fun, 63 minutes, West Ham, close to reclaiming Vladimir Schufal, filling the game up high and opening the ball to Said Benhrama, taking the ball down and shooting the way through the hand A Derson Moraes falls into the defensive
Two minutes later, Manchester City took the lead 2-0 from a quick counter-attack, Devin de Bruyne stabbed the ball through to Erling Haaland. Speed followed to turn around with a left pass. Areola's hands are decisive on the net.
The visiting team continued to invade and narrowly added Jack Grealish collecting the ball and rocking it to cut Erling Haaland's header, badly out of the box, unfortunately.
The rest of the time, the pictures of the game are still open for exchange, fun, but in the end, no more goals happened. End of the game, West Ham defeated Manchester City 0-2

Man City’s 12 match winning streak is broken
On Premier League’s matchday 23rd of 38, Aymeric Laporte equalized Southampton’s lead, ending the game at 1-1, where both the teams settled for a point each.
For a 96 minutes long game, with 74% ball possession and 20 attempted shots, Manchester city were only able to pull one single goal, That shows how organized and intact Southampton’s defensive overlay was.
What city loss in this draw ?
Although their Premier League unbeaten run is still alive, only if they had won this game City could have extended their Premier League winning streak to15 games. because the upcoming chances were a home ground fixture against Brentford on 10th February followed by an away game on 12th against Norwich City FC, both of which will be less exhausting for city to take points from, considering their form this year, but Southampton had other plans.
Manchester City started the game in possession and Grealish winning the first free kick of the match in 2nd Minute that was defended well by the Saints. The play went on and right on the 7th minute Kyle Walker-Peters comes in clutch with the trivela goal right after a dribble from half line followed by a one-to play with Nathan Redmond, then striking the ball that landed on top left corner leaving the city's defense in complete awe of the moment.
Southampton had the perfect head start for a game like this but the early goal also gave city a chance to act in composure and do the necessary changes because Guardiola still had enough time to take all the odds in his favour.
The play went on smoothly with City cautiously making forward runs that the Saints kept denying. On the 24th minute Romeu played the ball in Armando Broja’s path.he gets past Kyle Walker and with enough composure, gets the better of Ederson too. But the offside flag went up and the goal stood uncounted. Next highlight of the first half was a chance Bottled by Raheem Sterling. It was more of an outstandingly sensitive save by Fraser Forster. It is clear that city is in desperate need of a striker but for now they look up to sterling to play as one, meanwhile all he’s managed to play is a false 9 or a pure right winger so far.
Reports say Fiorentina’s Striker Vlahovic Dusan, Dortmund star Erling Braut Haaland and Julian Alvarez from River Plate are man city’s potential targets this summer, if we were to talk about their transfer market’s presence as of now.(Source: Sky Sports and Express)
It's not a very emotional setback from Manchester as it would appear to be because they have already managed to Shield themselves to any such threat by getting to the top of the table with a massive 12 points lead ahead of Liverpool, which the Merseyside are targeting to close by snatching a few points off their following match’s hosts, Crystal Palace, to make it count in the twelve point difference and will still have a game in hand.
Thanks to Gabriel Jesus on winning the free kick which led to the Equalizer, a wonderful header from Aymeric Laporte which Kevin De Bruyne assisted after seeing him unmarked at the left far post. It was rather a display of Southampton’s poor man-marking which is the most crucial job in the defending a free-kick that is more than 30 or so yards away from your goal post.
You can clearly see 3 navy shirts unmarked. They were, Ruben Dias ,Rodri and Laporte, which definitely shouldn’t have happened.
Southampton impenetrable defense
Match was played in Saint Mary's stadium i.e. Southampton FC’s home ground and they had just returned from a 3-1 away game loss against Wolverhampton wanderers which was played on 15th January. so they were looking for a rather optimistic head start.
The defensive arrangement of the team was brilliant, credits To Ralph Hasenhüttl and the team, where the table topper seemed to be frustrated when they were unable to get past the final segment of the ground .The shield was so effective that out of 20 attempted shots by Manchester City, 7 were blocked, 8 were off the post and 5 of them were directed towards the net itself but only one could make it through and that was by Laporte’s header.
Unreal performance by Muhammad Salisu
Southampton’s Muhammed Salisu put on a phenomenal course of 96 minutes contributing to the teams point. where he managed to Sweep 14 clearances, block 3 shots, 4 interceptions and 0 challenges lost. He won 7 out of 7 ground duels and 1 out of the 2 aerial ones. With 0 fouls committed , giving the refree no chance to get him on the crosshairs, Salisu was booked neither of the cards, which is quite rare for a Premier League defender playing against City’s attacking set pieces.
The Centre back delivered 2 long balls out of 5 attempts that Guardiola praised about The saints in a post match interview to Sky Sports
"They are a really good team," Josep said "Well organised in 4-4-2, they are [good with] long balls, and the pace in their counter attack.”
The game ended with both the sides getting a point each and the coaches were happy too, with enough to scrutinize and work on for their upcoming games. the defeat was even useful for city as an invigorating shower. Southampton played very bravely which only a few are capable of. Manchester City still has their unbeaten run alive which they very likely intend to foster for now. The Saints extended their unbeaten run at Saint Mary's to 8 games now for which they deserve all the praises.

RB Leipzig vs Man City: Player ratings and analysis as 10-man City suffer rare Champions League defeat
City ended their group stage with a disappointing defeat in Germany with Kyle Walker shown a straight red card late on
RB Leipzig 2-1 Man City (Szoboszlai 24′, Silva 71′ | Mahrez 76′)
Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Andre Silva condemned Manchester City to a rare Champions League group stage defeat in Leipzig in a game that also saw Kyle Walker shown a straight red card late on.
With City safely through as group winners and RB Leipzig already eliminated – and after the first half of PSG’s game against Club Brugge virtually assured a Europa League place – this was always unlikely to be a vintage European night. Even more so considering no fans were allowed inside the Red Bull Arena due to lockdown measures imposed by the local government in Saxony.
That Pep Guardiola opted to make seven changes from Saturday’s win over Watford, adding to the anti-climactic feel of the occasion. Perhaps understandably given the circumstances, City lacked their usual intensity and found themselves 1-0 down after 24 minutes when Szoboszlai rounded Zack Steffen to score after being sent clean through on goal by Konrad Laimer’s raking outside-of-the-boot pass.
City were indebted to their backup goalkeeper two minutes later as he made an unconventional stop down to his right to keep out a well-struck Emil Forsberg effort after Silva had broken a poorly executed offside trap. Steffen then denied a Silva header from point-blank range, before Phil Foden hit the post after a swift City counter-attack.
Although the visitors dominated possession in the second half they went two behind 20 minutes from the end when John Stones’ mistake on the halfway line was seized upon by Forsberg who teed up Silva to rifle a low effort beyond Steffen.
Riyad Mahrez brought City back into the game with a stooping header at the back post but their hopes of salvaging a point or more from the game suffered a blow when Walker was sent off eight minutes from time for stupidly kicking out at Silva.
Walker was sent off in the 82nd minute for a wild kick out at Andre Silva (Photo: Getty) Here are how City’s players rated on what was a forgettable evening all round.
Man City player ratings Zack Steffen: Kept much busier than a City goalkeeper can usually expect to be, denying Laimer at 0-0 and then Forsberg and Silva later on in the first half after Szoboszlai’s opener 7
Kyle Walker: Played Szoboszlai onside for the goal and seemed to lack sharpness and focus throughout the game. Sent off late on for kicking out wildly at Silva by the touchline 3 John Stones: Punished for a slack pass to Fernandinho on the halfway line that resulted in Silva firing Leipzig two in front. Never looks as assured without Ruben Dias next to him 4
Nathan Ake: Passed the ball out of from the back well enough but is a notable downgrade to Aymeric Laporte in the left-sided centre-back role 4
Oleksandr Zinchenko: Caught out of position a couple of times when Leipzig were in the ascendancy, but whipped in a sublime cross for Mahrez’s goal 5
Fernandinho: For so long the brain and engine of City’s midfield, Fernandinho seemed to struggle with the pace of the game. It is a testament to Rodri’s evolution this season that he was sorely missed 5
Kevin De Bruyne: Wasted what was by his sky-high standards a decent opportunity to score at 0-0 when skewing a half-volley over the bar. Drew a fine save from Gulacsi with a pinpoint free-kick just before half-time and flashed an effort just wide late on 6

27/2/21 Results + 28/2/21 Predictions
Results:
Man City:2 West Ham:1
Leeds:0 Aston Villa:1
Newcastle:1 Wolves:1
West Brom:1 Brighton:0
After today's 4 games Man City are 13 points clear at the top after a 2-1 win over West Ham. Ruben Dias scored his first City goal heading home a fantastic Kevin De Bruyne delivery after half an hour but the Hammers found an equaliser two minutes before the break as Michail Antonio converted from close range. City had Sergio Aguero back for his first game since October but he struggled to make an impact and it was another defender John Stones who restored their lead with a striker's finish from a Riyad Mahrez cross with just over 20 minutes left. The win means City are now 20 unbeaten in all competitions and look unstoppable while West Ham stay 4th but they will be overtaken by Chelsea if they win at Man utd on Sunday. In the days other games Aston Villa won at Elland Road for the first time in 21 years beating Leeds 1-0. The only goal came in the fifth minute when Anwar El Ghazi struck. The home side had a strangly flat performance which was capped off by Raphinha who missed a great chance late on. Villa stay 8th six points off the top 4 after their first win in three league games while Leeds are two places and four points back in ninth. Newcastle picked up a vital point drawing 1-1 with Wolves. The Toon needed a big performance and they were superb in the first half with Miguel Almiron and Allen Saint-Maximin going close. The hosts finally broke the deadlock seven minutes after the restart Jamaal Lascells with a powerful header but the last four league meetings between these two have ended 1-1 so it was no surprise when Ruben Neves also headed home with 73 minutes gone to share the points again. Newcastle remain 17th while Wolves sit 12th level on points with Arsenal. There was controversy at the Hawthorns where West Brom beat Brighton 1-0. Kyle Bartley gave the home side the perfect start heading a Conor Gallagher corner into the net after 11 minutes. Eight minutes later Brighton should have equalised when Okay Yokuslu handled the ball but Pascal Gross's penalty hit the crossbar then came the talking point. Brighton thought they had a goal when Lewis Dunk curled in a quick free-kick from the edge of the area while Sam Johnstone was still lining up his wall, ref Lee Mason ruled the goal out but Brighton players surrounded him to complain and he gave it only to finally reverse his decision after a chaotic few minutes and he gave West Brom a free kick. The drama continued in the second half when Brighton were awarded another penalty when Dara O'Shea brought down Gross and this time Sub Danny Welbeck hit the post and West Brom survived they stay 19th on 17 points while Brighton are 16th.
There are five more games on Sunday.

Man United's title challenge on hold until they upgrade defensive options

WEST BROMWICH, England — It took 83 seconds for West Bromwich Albion to show why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants — and Manchester United need — a new centre-back.
Conor Gallagher swung in a hopeful cross from the right and Mbaye Diagne barrelled through Victor Lindelof to head past goalkeeper David De Gea. De Gea might have come for the cross, and Diagne was all over Lindelof, but it was a frighteningly easy way for West Brom, the lowest scorers in the Premier League, to breach Manchester United’s defence.
It was the 31st goal Solskjaer’s team have conceded in the league this season, ranking 12th in that category. It set up a 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns on Sunday, as United have now dropped nine points in their last five games.

“It’s something we knew would happen from the kick-off. We knew they’d put us under pressure and put in a few throw-ins,” said Solskjaer. “They put a cross in, and [Diagne] finished well. We should play better, but we gave ourselves a tough start. You have 90 minutes to make amends, but we didn’t build that momentum until late in the first half.”
There is a lot to like about Solskjaer’s side — in particular, the resilience they show to battle back from losing positions so often — but not their tendency to defend as if keen to make every game as difficult as possible.

Since the turn of the year, they have shot themselves in the foot against Sheffield United, Everton and West Brom, allowing Manchester City to open up a seven-point lead at the top. If City continue their imperious run of form, which already stands at 16 straight wins, Solskjaer’s focus will soon turn to how he’s going to bridge the gap.
He can be buoyed by the fact that United have made suitable progress, even going top of the league for a spell in January, and that in Bruno Fernandes — who scored a spectacular equaliser at the end of the first half — he has one of the most effective attacking midfielders in Europe. Yet they need to make up ground somewhere if the wait for a title is going to end under Solskjaer’s watch, and the goals against column would suggest central defence is an area that could be upgraded.
Solskjaer has invested heavily in Harry Maguire and already made him captain, but if the debate is about who should be his long-term partner, it was not an afternoon that saw Lindelof do much to push his case. The Sweden international will perhaps feel he was fouled by Diagne for West Brom’s opener, but he should have been stronger, and the striker on loan from Galatasaray was the only one who looked determined to win Gallagher’s cross.
Lindelof struggled with Diagne throughout the 90 minutes and after being penalised for one clumsy foul on the halfway line, Solskjaer raced to the edge of his technical area to shout: “Victor, think!” It might have been worse for Lindelof late on, when he was wrestled out of the way by Diagne, who got on the end of Conor Townsend‘s cross, but couldn’t force it in.

In the end, Solskjaer will feel United should have won — particularly after Sam Johnstone‘s wonderful save to tip Maguire’s late header onto the post — but instead, they paid a high price for a sloppy moment with barely two minutes on the clock. By contrast, the winning run to put Man City in pole position to lift the title has been built on a defence that’s conceded just two league goals in 2021. Pep Guardiola has benefited from the investment in Ruben Dias in the summer and Solskjaer should be thinking along similar lines.
“I didn’t feel we created enough big moments to score the goals,” said Solskjaer.
“We did get down the sides, but maybe the cross or the positioning or the movement wasn’t there. We didn’t have big moments where you thought that should have been a goal even though the ball was in their last third all the time. It is disappointing, of course. We have come away with two points less than we wanted to. The start was difficult.”
Man City will stretch their lead to 10 points before United play again if they can beat Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday. Solskjaer is not ready to concede the title just yet, but the truth is that next season may present a better opportunity if continued progress can be married with the right players, including a new centre-back, coming in this summer.
“It’s a compliment for the boys that we got into the position we are now,” said the Norwegian. “We won’t let [Manchester City] run away with it — we’re playing them soon. We’re not giving it away early, no we’re not.”
