#10 : Movieverse
Summary:
Zane and Morro just want to have a fun weekend together at Morro's house but one of the family members that live there turn out to surprise our ninja boi and goth baby.
( What even are summaries? Idk, haha )
**~~~~~~~~~~~~**
Tick-tock-tick-tock
'Ugh, when is this class going to end? I just want to get started on my lazy weekend,' Lloyd thought to himself as he looked around the classroom at his friends. Kai was sitting in front of him passed out on his desk, Jay was to his left furiously writing down notes in his signature chicken scratch, Cole was sitting behind him with music blaring from his headphones, and Zane was zipping up his backpack.
'Huh, why is zane already packed?'
Tick-tock-Ring!
The final bell chimed through the classroom and kids were quick to shove there textbooks and notebooks into their bags. But, not as fast as Zane who was already heading out of the door saying a quick goodbye to the others with a big smile on his face.
"Hey guys, we don't have any special ninja training today, right?" Lloyd whispered to the others, " 'Cause Zane just bolted out the door like there was no tomorrow."
"Naw, Sensei Wu told us himself that we deserve a little brake," Cole said while scrolling through his phone's playlist.
"Yeah, Zane's just been very swift with his getaways from school and training recently," Kai added.
"Maybe it has to do with his real human boy stuff that he always goes on about," Jay said as he adjusted his long orange scarf.
Lloyd thought through it and simply said," Well whatever it is, I hope Zane is having fun."
*~~~*
Zane sprinted towards the train station, not wanting to be late. He darted through crowds of people and slid down the stair railing that lead to the departure platform. He quickly scanned his ticket at the gate and slid into the first car that was readily available. The door instantly closes and the train is off.
The usual skyscrapers and bustling metropolis slowly started to fade into more of an urban setting with small neighborhoods filled with big houses. Little kids could be seen playing in the streets and teens could be seen heading into a mall. Not soon after did the cul-de-sacs started to trickle out of view and a more rural landscape shined through the window.
The train came to a stop and Zane could only see tall grass for miles. The sky was a crisp dark blue as the sun started to set. He stepped out of the train to be greeted by strong hug. Zane could instantly tell it was Morro as a long streak of green hair popped out from the rest of the black locks.
Morro squeezed even harder as he sent them in a little twirl, "I thought you missed the train again."
"I would never want to miss any of our dates," Zane replied holding onto Morro for a few more seconds, basking at how beautiful he looked in his gothic attire, before asking, "What do you have planned tonight?"
"I was thinking that we could go to my house and you could stay over, if you want to that is," Morro said pulling Zane towards his parked car, a dark blush on his cheeks,"and, you know, finally be able to meet Gramps."
"I would love to spend the night with you and meet this famous Grandfather of yours," Zane said with a light blush on his cheeks.
"Perfect! Let's go" Morro said, and they drove off into the countryside.
*~~~*
Morro had a cute little Japanese styled home placed on an acre of land. Cherry blossom trees were scattered about the front of the house, and a calming flow of water could be hear coming from the koi pond on the side of the house.
"Wow, your house is very beautiful," Zane said as Morro pulled into the gravel driveway.
"Not as beautiful as me, right?" Morro quipped while getting out of the car, a big smirk on his face.
"Oh nothing can compare to your beauty my love," Zane exaggerates, an even bigger smirk plastered on his face.
"Hehe, you better mean that," Morro said as he opened the front door, and then shouting, "Hey Gramps I have someone you should meet!"
Morro took Zane's hand and guided him through the house, first taking off their shoes at the front. The dark wood floors were clean and sparkling, the walls filled with different kinds of framed photos from all around Ninjago's landscape and buildings. They both headed to the living room and took a seat on the couch, Morro practically draping himself over Zane. Zane looked around at the plethora of photos on the wall next to the TV.
"Your photos are very alluring," Zane commented as he relaxed further into the couch hold Morro in a more comfortable position.
"Oh you sap, you told me the same thing the first time we met," Morro said with a loving tone in his voice while leaning in closer to Zane.
"I'll never forget that fateful day," Zane said who was also leaning into Morro's advances.
"Ahem."
Zane instantly shot up from the couch, inadvertently knocking Morro off, and sharply pushing his body into a crisp bow as he said, "Sensei Wu!"
"Sensei?" was all Morro could say while still lying on the floor.
"No need for formality Zane, you are not my student but a house guest tonight," Sensei Wu said as he held out his cane to help Morro get off the floor, "so tell me, how did you two meet?"
"Well, remember when I had to go into the city to get camera fix a few weeks ago…"
*~~~*
The sun was shining bright, but Morro's attitude was sour. He thought about how he had to wake up earlier that day to try and take a wonderful photo of the sunrise on the horizon. Taking his car out into the freezing night and hiking about three miles out into the woods, just to set up his tripod on a cliff and for a bird to attack him, which caused him to trip over his camera and break it!
'Aaaaahhhhh, this is so frustrating!' Morro thought as he walked around the city, waiting for his camera to be fixed at some father-and-son tech shop. His phone instantly buzzed and looking down at the text, Morro got excited as he thought, 'Yes, they're finally done!'
Morro ran back to the shop and was very tempted to just bust through the door. But, before he got to the shop's window, he calmed down as much as he could and lightly opened the door, a lite ding could be heard from a bell above. And, as Morro looked over towards the counter, he didn't see the old man from before but had conned eyes with a blue eyed, tall, white haired, tanned skin teen.
"Why hello there. My name is Zane," the stunning sea-blue eyed teen said before continuing with, "Welcome to Dr. Julien's Technologies Shop! How may I help you today?"
"Oh um, I'm Morro and I was here earlier to have my camera fix," Morro said, slightly shying away from Zane's confidence.
"The Canon EOS 80D with the tripod, correct?" Zane asked, a tender smile on his face.
"Ah, yes that's cor-correct," Morro stammered as he could feel his face getting warmer.
"Perfect! I'll be right back with your camera," Zane said as he walked into a backroom.
"Thanks," Morro said while trying not to embarrass himself anymore and thinking, 'Oh my God! Why am I starting to stammer!'
Zane came back to the counter with Morro's Camera and tripod completely unscathed, just like when he first bought them. But, before Morro could do anything, Zane slid a USB flash drive on the counter while saying, "I noticed that you still had your SD card inside of the camera. And...And I wanted to help save your work...And I'm really sorry for looking through your things, but..." a dark blush was starting to keep from Zane's cheats to his ears as he quickly saud, "your photos are very alluring."
"Th-thank you!" Morro said as he thought, 'Think Morro, Think! Say something before he gets freaked out like the others,' and then blurred out, "Would you like to take pictures with me?"
"That would be wonderful."
*~~~*
"And that is pretty much what happened," Morro said while holding onto Zane's hand, "but, how do you guys know each other?"
Sensei Wu took a deep calming breath before saying, "Zane is one of my students and is apart of the group of ninja that protect Ninjago."
"Sensei! Wasn't that supposed to be a secret to all civilians?" Zane said in shock.
"Love should never be built on a foundation of lies," Sensei Wu said while getting off the couch and heading towards the door, "you two can have the house for yourselves. I'll go visit my nephew for the weakened."
"So, what does the savior of Ninjago want to do first?" Morro asked with a sly smirk on his face.
*~~~~~~~~~~~~*
Well here we are, first fanfic that I've ever made! Hope you guys like it ( and sorry if the the character seem oc), but keep touch for the next chapter. Hopefully it will be out by the 4rd or 5th, maybe earlier~
Oh man, so many headcanons for this story. Abd, to try and clear some things up: Morro had been adopted by Wu and So kinda just let's Morro do his own thing (Wu knows Morro is a good kid, despite where he has come from and how dresses), then there's Dr. Julien having a tech store (most likely where Julien gets spare parts for his his projects), and Morro getting into the hobby of photography. So many things, probably going to be like this with the other chapters, Ooof.

( headcanon 01 )
cordelia is an incredibly hard worker. despite the stigma that comes along with being rich, she never got anything handed to her. at least, nothing of no monetary value. credit cards with no limits were thrown at her often, in addition to lavish gifts frequently, but cordelia works hard for the things she earns. that’s why she clings to things like her trophies and her diploma – things she brought when she was staying with angel for a couple of nights in season one. even though it was temporary, they were still things she wanted to display. things she was proud of. things that gave her a sense of validation when no one else did. she even kept her singed diploma and proudly displayed it because she worked incredibly hard in school, something that was even harder for her to do because of the hellmouth.
( headcanon 02 )
cordelia is very much a closeted nerd. this isn’t exactly headcanon because she admits that she’s brainy but covers it up in order to maintain her social status, but i mean more than just hiding her good grades. there’s times throughout the series that my friend pointed out (who influenced these headcanons heavily during conversations we’ve had about her, but he doesn’t have an active indie right now so i can’t link him for credit. thanks for these if you read this somehow, grizz) where she makes a reference to something like… star trek, i think it was? something very sci-fi. she’s most definitely seen a few episodes of the x-files and twin peaks. i’d be willing to bet that if she had the patience to sit down with someone and play a game of chess, she’d win every time because even though it’s not her favorite game, she’s incredible at it. she’s just a lot smarter than people give her credit for, but it’s something that doesn’t bother her. she knows her own self-worth. she was smart enough to get into every college she applied to, even though she didn’t have the money to go. she got a very good score on her SATs. she graduated top 10% of her class, still a great feat even though half of the student body was murdered throughout their high school years.
( headcanon 03 )
to piggyback off of that, intelligence is something cordelia downplays. this was something that was drilled into her head every time she turned a corner. she was told that boys don’t like girls that were smarter than them, or that only nerds could be smart, or that people wouldn’t talk to someone that was intelligent. status was very important to cordelia. it gave her a place, a purpose; it gave her some type of validation that she was lacking at home, even if she was confident in the person she was. dating the best guys was a way to maintain that status, even if she didn’t always like them. if she didn’t cover up how smart she was, she truly felt that she’d become some sort of social leper. now, this changed as she grew older and formed meaningful relationships with those around her, but in her early to late teens, she was steadfast in her belief and determination to hide her intelligence. additionally, it made her somewhat of a threat – allowed her to hold a certain kind of power above others that she quite enjoyed.

cordy meta: cordy being a 'powers the be' being?
—————– MORE META
to be completely honest, this is something i don’t think about too often. the reason being is that it was a prelude to the events of season four, which as a general rule, i try to forget ever happened. but when i do think about it, my thoughts are messy and confusing, so please bear with me while i try to fit all of them in some type of order that doesn’t make me sound like a total crazy person. also, i can almost guarantee that other people have different thoughts on this that are probably more valid and that address cordelia’s characterization better than i do, but this is just how i personally reflect on it.
i’ll jump right in with the season three finale. my first thought stems from skip saying, “it’s not the end. it’s the beginning. you’re a great warrior, cordelia. the battle that we’re all a part of is fought on many different planes and dimensions. you’ve outgrown this one. you’ve become - a higher being.” there’s clearly a lot wrong with this, if you ask me. cordelia’s characterization from the very beginning of welcome to the hellmouth seems to depict her as not being able to really empathize with others. it’s even joked that she’s not human. i’m not personally saying this was her problem, but it seems to be how it comes across. her friends were practically worker bees beneath them who she was striving to impress, she dated primarily for the social status, and basically ruled. now, that almost does align with being a ‘higher being’ if you think of it in high school terms.
HOWEVER, her character progression goes against that. a lot. even as she nears the end of her time on buffy the vampire slayer, she begins to shift. she’s able to better connect with those around her and she’s beginning to learn about the importance of the battle skip is referring to. again, that would appear to align with what he’s telling her… if she didn’t get the visions. if she wasn’t forced to feel the pain that everyone else felt. if she didn’t, with absolute certainty, know her purpose in “THIS world” which included the visions. that’s her own words, from not even an entire season before she became a higher being. this all happens in birthday, where she becomes part-demon just to stay in this dimension, fighting the good fight. so how, just a few episodes later, did she suddenly feel so out of place; feel that she’s suddenly outgrown the very purpose she accepted wholly?
i get that with becoming demonized, she got new powers. i get that it might have been something she needed to adjust to. i also get that a character has the right to change their mind and grow… if it happens organically. this didn’t. for me, at the heart of cordelia’s character was her humanity. it was her ability to empathize with the people in her visions. it was her choice to keep the visions, as she had ample opportunity to rid herself of them throughout the length of the series. they hurt like hell – mostly physically, but emotionally as well. they made her vulnerable all while giving her strength. the one time cordelia chose to lead a life without visions, it was because she was manipulated into doing so. and even then, she recognized her mistake. in a world where she didn’t even know about the visions or have any memory of her time at angel investigations, she chose the visions. she chose to help people.
i’m not saying that she couldn’t help people as a higher being. from her understanding, that was kind of the whole gig. however, the way i see cordelia chase as a character, she wouldn’t have made that choice. not at that time. not when she’d just found the person she’d been trying to be. not when she’d just found her purpose – her true purpose. not when she just realized she’d fallen in love with her best friend. not when she’d found a family with angel investigations that she’d never had before. it even goes back to her “it beats being alone all by yourself” quote. being a higher being meant being completely alone. isolated. able to see everyone else live their lives, but not being able to join them.
that isn’t who she is. cordelia thrives with others. she needs the company of others. she loved everyone on their team, from being in love with angel to her quirky bond with fred, she loved her team. she would and had risked everything multiple times to save them. i’m sorry if this sounds harsh to anyone that’s reading, but cordelia chase would not have turned her back on the only family she’d ever truly been apart of without so much as a goodbye and no one can tell me otherwise. it’s something that can even be seen in you’re welcome. i know there’s a lot of arguments that people make about it being a bad sendoff or whatnot, but again, it gets at the heart of who cordelia was. someone who used their last day on earth to help her friends.
if given the choice she’d always choose them. she would choose angel. she’d choose gunn. she would certainly choose wes. she’d choose fred. she’d choose lorne. she wouldn’t choose immortality. she would not choose to ascend. she would choose to stay right there in that large, empty hotel fighting the good fight because there was more love and acceptance there than there was in any heavenly dimension skip would have sent her to.

Who does Cordelia count as her closest friend(s)? Has there ever been anyone in her life she wishes she was closer to?
——– QUESTIONS / HEADCANONS
cordelia wasn’t ever truly close with anyone until she moved to los angeles and found herself completely. she definitely had an idea of who she was in sunnydale, but it was more of a constructed role that she knew how to play, and she knew what sort of people aligned with that. i believe she cared for her cordettes and the scoobies, with her being slightly more comfortable with the scoobies because they didn’t expect/hold her to as such a superficial standard as her other friends, but cordelia definitely felt cast aside after the xander breakup. she wasn’t as involved and i don’t think she particularly felt like she had a permanent place there.
you can definitely see that vulnerability and insecurity about not being accepted from the very first episode of angel. she kind of threw herself in the mix just a bit, and then was incredibly worried that she’d be booted out. i.e. “that is… if you think you can use me?” she’s always just wanted to be accepted, but her character development allows her to want to be accepted by the people she deems good / heroic, and eventually she’s able to secure that position and realize her self worth independent of others’ views of her. the vulnerability is still there, and you can see it more sometimes than others, like in that vision thing.
she went from “you think i’m never lonely because i’m so cute and popular?” to “i know my purpose” and that has so much to do with the fact that she was truly, genuinely close to the people on their team in los angeles. she would most certainly say that her closest friends were wesley, gunn, fred, lorne and angel. she was becoming close with doyle too, but it never really had the chance to blossom into the friendship she shares with them. out of those, she was definitely closest to angel, and that isn’t just my cangel bias.
you can’t really see it in btvs due to their lack of interaction, but angel has always been the only one that truly embraced and accepted all of her sides. he genuinely shared a laugh with her telling some story at the bronze that would have made everyone else roll their eyes, he fights back smiles when she does something dumb / goofy that he finds endearing even when nobody else thinks it is, and he even verbally confirms that he’s always liked both sides of cordelia. and it went hand in hand, too. she made comments about him being a vampire or his murderous past, but she was one of the only ones that seemed to make the distinction clear between what he has done and was currently doing. buffy certainly tries, but it’s also a little muddled with them because they’ve pretty much always been in the “i want you so much, but i can’t have you” situation and cordy and angel were always just friends from the start.
so, she’d definitely consider the angel investigations team members her closest friends. she also still spoke with willow often after leaving sunnydale, so i think there was a bond there that definitely wasn’t explored all that much. i don’t particularly know if she’d consider her a close friend, but if she did, certainly not to the extent as the others. as for who she wishes she was close to, i would definitely think her parents. there’s a lot we don’t know about them, but that’s because they couldn’t really be considered her family anymore. i don’t think her parents were ever around much anyways, and that definitely didn’t change after being hauled off for tax evasion. she found a new family with angel investigations that she was happy with, but i think she probably wishes things had been different with her own parents. you can see that a lot – with everyone, really – in fredless.

———– ⭐️ FOR HEADCANONS
it’s no secret that cordelia chase loves her own birthday. she knows her self-worth and isn’t afraid to tell people about it. but birthdays are important to her, particularly telling everyone the day of her birthday in advance, because her parents forgot. often. they didn’t quite mean to and always made up for it in shopping trips, but even when she’d drop hints ahead of time, it wouldn’t make a difference. once cordelia found a place in angel investigations, the family she never had, she made sure to remember everyone’s birthday. gunn’s in particular was incredibly hard to get out of him, though. she had to sneak a peek at his driver’s license one day to get it, but she made sure he had a present sitting on the counter at hyperion’s front desk bright & early the day of his birthday.
