Poly Lucio, Julian, Apprentice route headcanons (Early Montag/Julian years). Stay tuned for more. I'm super enjoying writing up a poly route for them and have all sorts of headcanons. Again, these are mostly just headcanons intermixed with some of the canon lore. It's been a hot minute since I played any of the routes, so I'm sure some of the canon stuff is off, but I tried my best haha.

I headcanon that Julian was pretty young when he amputated Lucio's arm, in his late teens to very early twenties, and still under Nazali's tutelage. He's gregarious and ready to jump into the fray. But he's also naive, hungry for adventure, and homesick. Misses Pasha, Lilinka, and Mazelinka. He has nightmares about his parent's death and manages to find a way to blame himself for it.

Lucio (still going by Montag) was in his mid to late twenties at the time. He'd been working as a mercenary for a number of years now and had built up a good name for himself. Aside from the deal he's made with the Wyrm, he's made a couple more to gain fame, glory, and what not. He wouldn't dare tell anyone that. This is when he meets Vlastomil, Vulgora, and Volta. With each of them, he makes a different deal. Vlastomil was the deal to get his parents sick and become leader of his tribe (obviously this only partially worked). Vulgora was for victory in battle. Volta was for money, the fulfillment of basic needs, and material goods.

Montag loses his arm because of a stupid misstep on the battlefield. He is a good fighter and has gone relatively unscathed (with some help from his deal with Vulgora), but due to the swell of pride at being recruited to fight for Count Spada and his general recklessness, he doesn't see a trap laid in the ground. He falls through and impales his arm on wooden spikes. He still manages to win the battle for Spada's army, but at a great cost.

Julian has, indeed, heard of Montag. He has mixed feelings about the mercenary. On the one hand, he sees him as a bit of a celebrity, with his many victories and grand adventures. On the other, he's wary of the man, having heard that Montag has padded his accolades. Suspicious of his backstory. Montag tells it like his mother was a weakling, but everyone knows this can't possibly be true. People are generally too afraid to refute this.

Julian and Montag connect in the medical tent. Montag won't let Julian leave his side. He's the only medical attendant that is of any interest to him. He likes how outgoing and fun Julian is. And he sees Julian as someone he can mold, someone that looks up to him. Young Julian, still hungry for adventure, eats up all of Montag's stories. Julian is missing home and finds comfort in Montag's tales and confidence in the young man. There's also some attraction between the two, though it goes largely unexplored at this time.

Julian gives Montag the name, "Lucio." He feels like Montag's reputation is maybe a bit unfair. He's blinded by how glorious Montag is and how much attention Montag pays him. Julian spent much of his childhood studying the languages of the world, fascinated by them. With this knowledge, he searches for a name that could fit Montag, someone he sees as having a light within him that is largely unrecognized. Montag doesn't quite grasp the intricacies of why Julian has chosen the name. All he hears is that Lucio means, "light." And he decides he's the Light of Vesuvia.

My journey in The Arcana

This is just gonna be a stream of rambling about the love interests in the game, how I worked my way through them, and landed with the two idiots I have. Sorry not sorry, it 5 am and I can’t sleep. Let’s go!

Ok so I first got the game some time late September early October. I was having just a piss poor day and I was like “fuck it, a dating sim will cheer me up!”

My gut reaction just seeing the LIs was “boom the big boy, him, him big he’s my type end of story.” But then I started playing...

Asra seemed like the ‘supposed to choose’ ‘correct ending’ type of choice so I instantly wasn’t feeling him. Nadia popped in and was hands down the most beautiful person I had seen thus far (I had seen all of two people, but she continues to be just the most fucking stunning) but I didn’t feel much else outside of that. Julian showed up like edgelord McGee and I was “Nah fuck off bruh.” Muriel, the boy I was like yes instantly be mine, doesn’t give much in the prologue so I was kind out of luck there. Portia was cute and funny but I felt more best friend vibes than girlfriend vibes. And lastly Luico seemed like an annoying evil spooky fuck so that’s also a big ol no.

Now the game had set me loose like “choose your bae” but I didn’t have super strong feelings one way or the other. Plus finding out Muriel, Portia, and Lucio had unfinished routes pushed me away from them. So I settled for Nadia, and let’s be honest as far as settling goes she’s not bad at all. But I just wasn’t feel IT any sort of fun connection or spark.

So I replayed the prologue picked a few new choices. I decided to take Julian up on the offer to frisk him once I caught him breaking into my shop for the second time. He turned into a blushing flustered mess and I was hooked. There’s the spark. So I played his route and it just all felt so very very right. This is MY true ending, on a boat sailing into adventure with the love of my life. Or so I thought...

I had finished Julian’s upright ending (I’m not touching reversed it will hurt my soul too much) but there was so much game left untouched, it couldn’t all be over now. So I dabbled, Asra’s route for a bit, a little more of Nadia’s, all of Muriel’s, the start of Portia’s, but no Lucio. Not after seeing what he did to all these other people I cared about. Of course not...well maybe just a peak. For fun, just to satiate my curiousity.

Oh no, he’s hot.

Ok that’s a bit of an oversimplification because it was hard at first. To enjoy his antics knowing the monsterous things he’d done. Then I began to think, “well this Eris (my fan apprentice) doesn’t know any of that.” So I tried to pick choices that lined up with the info my apprentice DID have “this man was murderer and I’ve been hired to help. I want to help him.” This mindset made it easier to sympathize with his longing to feel things again, to find him endearing where before he was just irritating. It made it easier to like him...and also he was hot. I mean have you tried the ‘Beg me’ option? 10/10 would recommend.

Shit, there’s that spark again.

Now I was struggling to conicide my love of Julian and of Lucio. Lucio, as I had mentioned, has done many oopsies in his past. Julian being another drop in the bucket. However reading headcanons/imagines that described a poly relationship with the two really helped smoothe out the wrinkles my brain just couldn’t quite iron out. Finally, I now have two lovely adoring husbands and the idea of fankids on the way!
