Headboggle - Polyphonic Demo - 44 one-minute tracks of synthesizer music, in a conscious nod to the Residents’ Commerical Album

San Francisco's Derek Gedalecia's long-standing HEADBOGGLE moniker has boasted over 100 releases in his twenty plus years composing and releasing music that spans from dense layered noise, synthesizer based works, avant neo-classical, to giddy electronics to ragtime piano, but none of these 100 plus releases have fully purged the deepest depths of unexplored sonic territories, with the inspired urgency and carefully honed strategic extraction of unheard sounds as his newest record, titled "Polyphonic Demo", to be released on CD and digital this November via Ratskin Records. On "Polyphonics Demo", Gedalecia abandons all notions of what experimental music is "supposed" to sound like to offer a exploding, tense, exuberant, yet refreshingly idiosyncratic take on synthesizer music. With forty-four one minute tracks, meant to be shuffled on CD or remain in their sequenced order, Gedalecia completely re imagines what is possible both compositionally and spatially within the confines of a sixty second track, or an electronic music album for that matter. "Polyphonics Demo" is the listening adventure of abstract, yet masterfully grounded take on electronic music we've all been waiting for.

This is the double cassette release show for The Word Origami Deluxe Edition (on Deathbomb Arc). It compiles a standup comedy set from label founder George Chen with a series of "comedy remixes" that Chen asked friends to make (with minimal instruction). The resulting compilation includes members of Deerhoof, Clipping., Black Spirituals, Spencer Owen, Headboggle, Dis Fantasy, Jerkagram, Cooling Prongs, Chen Santa Maria, Mike Shiflet, Conscious Summary, Chaki, and Future/Hunter. A truly weird object (limited to 100) that will be available at this show (and any discerning cassette retailers).

Somnambulists

Warren Ng is an experimental musician based in Brooklyn, NY and originally from San Francisco who has performed and released numerous recordings under the names Somnambulists and This Invitation, all linked by an interest in minimalism, string drone, and the hidden internal hum of the electric guitar. 



Recent activity has also included involvement in collaborative film + live score performance works presented at experimental film festivals and exhibitions in New York and San Francisco including an expanded cinema series co- presented by the Microscope Gallery & The Whitney Museum (2016); Mono No Aware IX and X (2015 & 2016); and the SF Cinematheque's Crossroads 2016 & 2018 (presented at the SFMOMA).

The Skin Horse is Nathan Dalton, a multimedia artist and guitar player inspired by American primitive guitar masters and the sounds of everyday life. His first band, Nuzzle, emerged from the arty LA hardcore scene and morphed into The Dying Californian, a band that drew inspiration from old American folk traditions. NNA Tapes celebrates 100th release and 10 years with a gargantuan 6-cassette, 66-track compilation

The good thing about anniversaries that originate from a specific year, as opposed to a specific day, is that it’s entirely within bounds to celebrate that anniversary at any point (or multiple times) over the course of a year. That’s part of the rationale for my excessive pizza-eating (honoring 18, 19… 20 years since my first slice!), and it’s also why the Vermont-based NNA Tapes label can get away with not only having a festival celebrating 10 years of experimental music sponsorship, but ALSO releasing a massive compilation that pays homage to the artists that have played a huge role in NNA’s development. Those artists include the likes of Guerrilla Toss, Tredici Bacci, Greg Fox, Olivia Block, Jefre Cantu Ledesma, Felicia Atkinson, Lea Bertucci, and Keith Fullerton Whitman — just to name a few (check out the complete list here). Right now you’re probably thinking: “But there’s no way that all of them can offer a song or two on a single compilation, is there? For that, you’d definitely need multiple discs and a pillow to lie down on after you’ve necessarily given your auditory system an endurance test!” Well, please see NNA’s new release entitled ‘Centennial’, out August 17, for why you best get on deciphering your sleep number sooner rather than later. The massive compilation is set to feature 66 “exclusive” tracks spread across 6 cassettes (the preferred format of the label).
