I never see people talking about just how horribly Silkwings are treated. Even in the books the treatment is sortof glazed over in favor of the plot. It’s genuinely horrifying.

For example: Matching. It’s not delved into too much, but it is briefly mentioned that Silkwings are often assigned a spouse not of their choosing. While historically this isn’t uncommon, when you add on the whole flamesilk situation it gets even worse. It seems like if you apply for matching you are required to have at least one egg, because I doubt the control over that stops at just the flamesilks. It’s probably just tighter. Put it all together and you have the tribe being treated little better than cattle.
