Victor Spinetti on meeting the Beatles, and encountering Beatlemania:

"The Beatles had seen a show I was in, Oh! What a Lovely War -- it caused a bit of sensation -- and George Harrison said, 'Oh, Vic. You've got to be in our film. If you're not in our film, me Mom won't come because she fancies you.' So I was cast in this Beatles film, A Hard Day's Night, then later Help! and Magical Mystery Tour.

"Beatlemania in Europe was amazing, but in New York it was something else altogether, people went mad, absolutely insane about the Beatles. On the first night on Broadway of Oh! What a Lovely War, which was a musical about the First World War, I came out on stage and a group of girls at the back screamed, 'Victor Spinetti, aaaaahhhhhhhh!' They were shouting things like, 'he's touched George!' I said to the cast, 'It's alright, there's a bit of a disturbance, hang on.'

"'Listen my darlings,' I told the girls. 'This is a show about the First World War, but I'll tell you what, if you keep quiet during the show you can come down and sit in the first row afterwards and we'll do a 10-minute semester on the Beatles.' 'Thank you, thank you!' they squealed.

"You see, I know what it is like to hunger after knowing something about someone you really love, I mean adore passionately. When I was a kid, if somebody had said to me, 'I know Rita Hayworth,' I'd have said, 'Oh! What is she like?' Well it was the same thing for these kids. When I first met the Beatles, in fact, I was asked constantly, by everybody, 'What are they like?' Literally by everybody -- by Laurence Olivier: 'What are they like? What are they like? What are they like?'"

"...They came to the show just to hear these Beatles stories at the end of the performance. Sold a lot of tickets that way. They used to come from Detroit, from Chicago, from Pittsburgh. They'd fly in to come to the matinee and then they would all sit down and we'd do this 10-minute semester on the Beatles...

"Then, one afternoon, Warren Beatty was in my dressing room. He said, 'Victor, I've got a problem here. I hear there's a crowd of teenage girls at the stage door. You know, they're going to tear me apart.' Well, I didn't tell him that they were in fact Beatles fans. I just said, 'Oh, they'll be OK, don't worry.' So as we came up to the stage door, he was behind me, they all shrieked in unison, 'Victor Spinetti!' And they parted, leaving this astonished man. I can still see his face to this day.

"The same thing happened to the Beatles, once. I was on a plane once with them. We landed in New York, just to refuel, that is all. We were not allowed off the plane. And suddenly an immigration officer got on the plane and said, 'Is there a Victor Spinetti here?' John said, 'They're deporting you, you bloody wop. Ellis Island awaits.'

"'Yes, I am he,' I said. 'Would you come to the door of the plane, please,' the man said, 'and wave, because your fan club is at the airport.' The Beatles cried, 'His fan club!?' It was like that joke about the Pope. I'm standing next to the Beatles at the door of the plane, waving with the lads, and these people were shouting, 'Victor! Victor!'

"John said, 'Hey, Vic, we're really impressed, think we could join?' So I wrote to the lady who ran the club, and the Beatles and Brian Epstein all got a card saying they were members of the Official Victor Spinetti Fan Club of America."

This might not make sense to anyone but this photo makes me want to write a Victorian AU. (Some people had a childhood obsessed with boats, trains, sea animals, the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, etc. I had the Victorian era.)

Hear me out. This would make a fantastic romantic comedy.

Logan in frilly, lace Victorian era clothes with lace gloves and parasols. Suitors vying for his hand with letters and gifts. Alex is very much “I love Love” and George being “no one is good enough for Logan.”

Lewis is amused “he’s a spitting image of his grandfather (Nico) it’s no wonder he’s popular.” George screaming and throwing the request letters into the fireplace.

Alex is chaperoning Logan and Oscar on their first walk of their courtship. It should be a time for the young couple to get to know each other but it’s really a three-way conversation about why George is there as well.

Oscar: Uhm I might be new to this but I didn’t know both parents would act as chaperones.

Logan: Ignore him. He insisted on coming

Oscar: Does he not trust me? Have I offended him in any way?

Alex: He doesn’t trust any suitor. It’s a miracle we made it to the courting stage. They usually don’t make it past the request letter.

George: They are ill-mannered idiots who do not need to be given the time of day!

Alex: So Oscar, you mentioned horses? Logan loves animals.

I want to write this but I need to finish other stuff before I do.

out of all the fia fuckups in recent times i think letting lando norris of with a five thousand euro penatly for starting the second formation lap is the worst one.

the fia determined in their investigation that it was his mistake & not one of the stewards, technical difficulties or the team:

he started driving in the rain, going by a corner where other cars had previously been spinning out & where a crane was still set up next to the track to recover strolls car, endangering not only himself but everyone that followed him as well as the people working on the car recovery. this is the exact same thing everyone swore would never happening again after suzuka 2014 (which was eerily similar).

there should not only be a hefty penalty for him but anyone who followed on that lap (maybe a less severe one but still) if only to set a precedent & make sure there is a better understanding of the dangerous things that could have happend.

any thoughts about how could it be the dynamic between viserys-naerys- daeron ii in fire & blood 2?

okay so straight up the dynamic i’m MOST interested in learning about in f&b2 is the viserys-naerys-daeron ii dynamic. first of all, those first two are just UNGODLY DISTURBINGLY YOUNG when they have children. viserys has naerys, his YOUNGEST child when he is sixteen. naerys has daeron when she is fifteen. viserys is a grandfather before he is 32 years old. it is truly babies raising babies out here!! i mean fuck, daeron has baelor under significantly less traumatic circumstances but he’s still only 17 by the time he starts having kids! that’s all just wildly interesting and disturbing to me. like, that alone, how close in age they all are because they all married & started having kids at crazy young ages, explains so much about why this period has always felt particularly deranged to me (“this period” being post dance where we get this incredible string of deranged freaks from aegon iii to aegon iv that ebbs into this vaguely “we’re having a targ renaissance yay” era that erupts into civil war anyways! i LOVE this conceptually i’m so ready to be annoyed when f&b2 comes out and i’ve hyped this all up for some more dumb sex stories from another court fool ajsjs).

but then secondly, okay, when you look at the timeline- daeron is born in 153 and the birth nearly kills naerys 15/16 year old naerys. aegon iii is still king for four more years. that last year, aegon iv spends his time (and the next two years after that) shacked up with megette. then aegon spends a few years shacked up/probably raping casella vaith the hostage, before running off to war. then he spends more time raping naerys, wherein she has a miscarriage, and aegon is sent away so he doesn’t rape her to death. daeron marries myriah, has a child with her. but before that child is two, in quick succession, his father comes back home & immediately starts raping his mother again, his mother nearly dies having twins & now he has a sister younger than his son, and daena unveils her new bastard who everyone thinks is aegon’s, and baelor is so distraught by all this he fasts himself to death. viserys is king, and likely dead before daeron’s second son is born and before daeron turns twenty. suddenly the person responsible for making sure aegon doesn’t rape naerys to death are daeron & aemon, who have NO authority over aegon. this man has the audacity to stay alive for twelve more years.

that shit is insane. daeron’s father is only around when he’s raping his mom. the closest things daeron has to a father figure are his uncle who wants to fuck his mom, his grandfather who is probably busy constantly (and also only in his thirties 😭), and his batshit insane cousin baelor. his childhood is marked by almost constant instability until it stabilizes for the worse when his cousins all get locked in the maidenvault, then gets thrown into upheaval once again as baelor & viserys die and now his dad who is only around when he’s raping his mom is suddenly back in town and has total control.

and naerys. she’s like if aemma lived long enough to parent her kids, but worse bc you could argue there was fondness of a sort between aemma & viserys. aegon and naerys hate each other. she is constantly pregnant and on death’s door from the age of fifteen (three years older than her father!) until the day she dies, in her early 40s. it sounds like worse than hell to me. it is a lifetime where the only source of comfort you have is the son you birthed at fifteen, because maybe your life is a nightmare but if you raise him to be marginally less evil, he won’t destroy the innocent little girl you know is going to be sent to court to be his wife. everyone else is actively holding you hostage and applauding you for taking the abuse so well. your whole life is screaming for help and all you get is tears telling you you’re so dutiful and brave.

and viserys just. watches it all happen. of course he does! his kids are simply ungrateful! he had to get married at twelve and his wife wasn’t born in westeros so they had nothing in common and at least they have a living father, they have no idea how lucky they are. why should daeron and naerys blame him when he gave them everything because he had nothing? it’s a shame it wasn’t naerys that offed this man. i do think she was his favorite kid tho and i bet he’s not subtle about it at all.

i think pauls tribute to george is beautiful btw like yeah it doesnt sound like george cuz it ISNT george, i dont think anyone can replicate that at all, its the fact that he thought of it and decided to try and it still sounded beautiful and worked with the song composition! obviously the ideal situation we wouldve had george have his own guitar solo, but also if this was ideal john would still be here. I think paul put a lot of heart and soul into that solo and even if it isnt george its FOR george and i think thats very special :,)
