^^ that was basically it for me!! i think another factor was probably that i caught up to the manga right when yuuta had first returned, so whenever he would name drop tsumiki for megumi's sake, i'd be like, "aw 🥺 concerned bf mode activated 🥺🥺🥺" skdjskdjdj

ever since 0.5 came out, i've had this hc that megumi was super cold and indifferent towards yuuta until it was clear that he WOULDN'T be leaving jujutsu high after dispelling rika. then he gets clingy.

megumi crushing isn't really blatant flirting as much as it's him acting like a totally normal, friendly teen (before he realizes it), or even a blushing, standoffish mess (after he realizes it). but only in front of yuuta. nobody else gets special treatment.

before he realizes he has a crush, his bias for yuuta over the other 3 then-first years is really loud. he always wants to train together one-on-one, he follows yuuta around like a lost puppy, offers up his phone number and keeps up with yuuta even when he's not on campus, shares his gum while denying anyone else that asks for a piece, compliments yuuta for doing things he'd complain about if anyone else did it -- he's just so obvious idek.

when it finally comes out that yuuta is getting sent abroad for an indefinite amount of time, megumi feels this, like...resigned sense of anger? bc of course yuuta is leaving, everyone always leaves. it just sucks more this time around bc he actually likes yuuta...a lot...u might even say he like likes yuuta...

(cue gumi's "oh." moment 😔)

after megumi realizes he has a crush, he clams up. he cannot maintain eye contact with yuuta, avoids him like the plague, gets really short with him when they do have to talk bc he's afraid of exposing himself any further and he's also terrified of being too attached to someone who's only gonna wind up being absent when he needs them (he's done enough of that in his life, thx).

(poor oblivious yuuta on the other end of things, getting thrown for a loop and he doesn't even know why 😔 and right before he leaves too? bro 💔)

megumi is still down bad though. his gaze and his thoughts always linger on yuuta. he thought it would get easier once yuuta left, but yuuta lives in his head rent free. anytime the now-second years bring him up, he just misses him more. it's so much easier to talk to yuuta about things that weigh on him or things he enjoys or things he doesn't understand -- these days he just bottles everything up bc otherwise he runs the risk of being teased 😭😭😭

in a perfect world where shibuya and the culling games don't happen, yuuta would return and megumi would immediately throw himself at yuuta bc, as they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder and megumi is really really fond and really really tired of there being a distance between them.

in canonverse, megumi can't help but cling to yuuta once he returns. like, after everything? he NEEDS someone to cling to 😭 it's just that they're constantly being split up...and they're on a time limit...and everything is happening in rapid succession...there's no time for anything to really happen between them..................unless? 👀
