Jean Pierre Polnareff's true purpose
So, let's talk about Jean Pierre Polnareff.
The "silliest" of the Stardust Crusaders, the "clown" of the group, the "immature one".
Except he's really none of those things. He may not be a genius, but he is smart. People really don't give Polnareff the credit he deserves. I personally do believe, that out of all of the Crusaders he is the one with the worst fate.
All of the Crusaders have been through some form of trauma, yes, they all have faced Dio and have lost friends along the way, but Polnareff has had it especially hard, because people just seem to ignore/forget all he's done, and we tend to put him down as that silly, funny guy from Part 3.
It is true, Polnareff is very dorky and jokes around a lot, and just generally seems to be very at ease in an almost naive way. But this has it's reasons, and Polnareff is so much more than just this.
The people who smile the brightest often hide the worst pain in their hearts.
What I'm trying to say is, Jean sort of uses this goofy, happy facade as a coping mechanism for trauma and grief. Only 3 years prior to meeting the other Crusaders he'd lost his younger sister Sherry. And she wasn't just killed by accident, she was murdered. Imagine what that must have done to him. Whatever it was, it was enough for him to seek revenge, not stopping before anything.
Furthermore, he'd just somewhat come to terms with Avdol's supposed death later on in season 1 of Part 3. Maybe Polnareff even blamed himself for dragging Avdol into this. Especially after going off on his own when he'd finally found J. Geil, which I still believe he did, to not endanger his friends unnecessarily.
Avdol was probaply his closest friend of the bunch. I love the bond these two shared. And I believe that Avdol wanted Polnareff to realize that it's better to have friends to rely on, and that it wasn't his fault.
Still, Polnareff likely blamed himself for being responsible for Avdol's death, having seen him die right in front of him, because he was protecting him..
And later it turns out Avdol didn't really die, he was still alive all this time, and all the Crusaders knew about it. All of them, except for Polnareff.
They didn't tell him, because they didn't trust him to keep quiet about it in front of the enemy.
This is the one desicion I disagree on with Kakyoin and the others. How could they. Not only did they basically end up telling Polnareff that they didn't fully trust him, they left him blaming himself, feeling incredibly bad and traumatized for WEEKS.
And then not ONE of them, not even Kakyoin, really apologized to him. It can be argued that what they did was not to hurt Polnareff on purpose, regarding the dangerous situation they're in. And that makes sense. But it did hurt him. And that's sort of unforgivable in my book. Jean puts up this happy act, and no doubt he does have fun with the other Crusaders, it's not bad all the time at all. But when nobody's looking, the sad, pained look on his face is obvious enough.
In the end, Polnareff really loses three of his friends, two of them because they protected him, and gave their lives for that yet again, but this time for real. He's essentially left with what he'd believed to be true before.
He is alone again.
Having only survived because others protected you and died for that, can make you feel so utterly desperate and worthless.
Despite this sorry state he falsely sees himself in, here is where it truly shows, just how noble Jean Pierre Polnareff really is.
Instead of leaving all of this behind when given the chance, to go back home to France, he continues investigating the Stand arrows, and the problems Dio's actions caused, even after he died.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/c035defb5d2657ae5181105d2a33d293/acf9736285d60fb4-0d/s540x810/dbadce74ef51520663531756cf9232cb7a92b4d5.jpg)
While Jotaro was on it too, Polnareff eventually decides to further investigate alone, probaply because he wanted to avoid losing another friend because he couldn't protect himself alone. It shows that he's grown. And it shows that Polnareff really doesn't hesitate to risk his life for this.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9835583e2739d1a4281735a863c2526e/acf9736285d60fb4-cc/s500x750/0873ca8d4513ae2aef932eaba54689b79f42cb7b.jpg)
This causes Polnareff to run into none other than Diavolo, who is after the arrows for his own, twisted reasons.
Which in turn, gets him into an even worse situation.
Not only has Polnareff spent his youth, from the age of 19 (when he lost his sister) to age 36, chasing after the Stand arrows and Dio to seek revenge and prevent even worse things from happening, he's also severely injured and left disabled for the rest of his life at only 23 years of age.
On top of all of this he is now the potential target of one of the most dangerous Mafia bosses in the world, forcing him to live in solitude for over 10 years, unable to contact ANY of his remaining friends or family because if he did so he'd risk getting them and himself hunted down and killed. Thus Polnareff is yet again alone.
Just.. take a moment to let all of that sink in. All of what Polnareff has been through.
And DESPITE all of that, he still pulls through, he still keeps going, stays strong and continuously puts his own life on the line to try and stop Diavolo from obtaining the Requiem arrow.
Because he knows that if he fails, everything the Crusaders fought for in 1989 will be to no avail. And even if he can't do much himself, he finds a way to contact Bucciarati's group after what I can only assume are weeks, if not months of research on them.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b1377049941501f46e2028c72de41989/acf9736285d60fb4-db/s540x810/ec0429d7650a2f2e9df088cec7027b7554a6c129.jpg)
(It is almost scary to see how much Polnareff has changed, from the mostly happy, outgoing and talkative guy we've known, to this serious, more mature and collected man, operating from within the shadows to reach out to Bruno.)
Now we, as the reader, know all of this about Polnareff, but to Bruno and his gang, he is a stranger, somebody they don't know if they can trust yet. They also only meet Polnareff very briefly before Diavolo finally reveals himself and kills Polnareff for good.
Jean Pierre Polnareff, spent his live almost constantly facing some sort of trauma. I can't begin to imagine what he must have felt like in the end, knowing he's dying, before having finished what he started, what he fought for.
Yet he spends his last living moments thinking of his friends, the things he's been through back in Egypt, and atleast he knows that what he's done is not in vain, because he can safely place this mission he's dedicated the last 10 years of his life to, in the hands of Bucciarati and his gang.
This has an almost poethic value to it.
(It is also interesting to note that the Stand, Judgement, from Part 3 shows up in this panel. Think back, this Stand had the ability to grant "wishes" in form of illusions that turn against you. That was when he wished for his sister Sherry, and Avdol, whom Polnareff still believed to be dead, to come back to life. This always strangely touches me, because it's so naive to believe in such a thing, yet, it shows just HOW much Jean cares for those two, that he still had hope left, and was unable to let go, as of that time. The pain in his eyes as he realized that this last bit of hope he had was foolish, wronged, he had to accept and move on, which he does for the most part, but the fact that Judgement is something that he remembers in his last concious moments before dying shows that what happened on this particular day never really left him..)
Somehow, Polnareff is given a second chance, in form of his soul being kept alive within this bizarre Stand ability of Coco Jumbo. His body is dead, he can never go back, but Polnareff's spirit lives on. Atleast for now.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/33916bb344113fec8a489eb1021a24b9/acf9736285d60fb4-bc/s540x810/311d57543eec742e3ec832fe4c0fe251f6d4bb9f.jpg)
And Polnareff did so much. He sacrificed everything, not even hesitating to lay down his life.
He deserved so much better. He deserved a happy, long life, a family, love and friends.
While he may not ever get some of these things, he's with Giorno now. He's made it out, somewhat, alive. He can rest easy now and that is what counts for me. His sacrifices have not been for nothing, and thus, his friends dying to protect him back in Cairo also have not died for nothing. Polnareff carried on their legacy, making their deaths count, moving on, but never forgetting.
It is somewhat ironic that the one who carried Polnareff's mission to the end was Giorno, Dio's son, and yet another Joestar. It seems that the fates of Polnareff, Dio, and the Joestar family were destined to cross paths from the beginning.
Again, as the reader, we know the whole picture, but Polnareff doesn't. And he still did what he did, and he deserves credit and gratitude for that.
This is why Jean Pierre Polnareff is one of the most important people in the storyline of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and a man who has ALL my respect and admiration. I truly think that without him, things wouldn't have turned out as well as they did, and we have him to thank for that.
The last thing spoken in the anime of Vento Aureo is said by none other than Polnareff:
"Let's go,
...to the Colosseum."

Bucci Gang Fantasy! Headcanons
Abbachio - Arbiter
Arbiters balance in a world between life and death, never fully alive or dead. Void of any emotion, the arbiter's job is to judge the lives of the dead to determine whether they are worthy of reincarnation. Souls not worthy are sent to a sort of purgatory to wander forever incomplete.
Abbacchio takes his job very seriously. He makes no mistakes in the name of the greater good and is considered one of the top arbiters in the business.
He often feels disconnected from his clients, he is sent the worst of the world to unleash judgment upon. How could he sympathize with such evil, pitiful creatures? That was until you came along, disrupting his work as always.
You were a new arbiter working under him to get into the dirtiest part of the job. Though you had specifically requested for the worst part of the department, you always had a smile and an unusually happy air about you. Your presence was almost completely intruding to Abbacchio, but soon he grew to like hearing laughter after millennia of screams and pleads of the damned.
You worked together until that fateful day, the day you had come to a disagreement.
The client was a young woman, not too far from your age. She had murder written all over her tape but reading into the thick of her personality you found that she had taken the life of a doctor that had sexually abused her daughter. Abbacchio wanted to damn her for her crimes because the doctor was very esteemed and had plenty of miracle procedures that saved tons of lives, but you knew she was just in her actions. After an argument, Abbacchio had the final say in damning her not to purgatory, but to hell.
After that day you could never forgive him, and now he works alone in his suffocating walls drenched in death, with no laughter to hear. For all eternity.
Bruno - Seraphim
Seraphim are the highest order of Angels, the ones closest to the Throne of God. They spend most of their day signing in the choir to honor his radiance. They are beings that give their hearts completely to God.
Bruno always struggled with this, It was in his divine blood that he loves God with all his heart for that was the true path of radiance, His God could never lead him astray. But in his heart, he felt that there was room for someone else.
You were of the lowest order of Angels. The closest divine being to that of humans. Rank or no rank, you were one of the most beautiful beings Bruno had ever laid eyes on. He’d see you fluttering in your own dreams outside the Throne room window, and now every day he sings louder in hopes you’ll hear his voice and the love it held for you from afar. And one day, you noticed.
You fluttered over to one of the open windows and leaned against the pane as you listened to the especially beautiful performance the choir was putting on. You briefly met eyes with Bruno but once you did, you knew the source of the emotion behind the choir was coming from him. You blushed and listened as his voice drifted you to an unknown place of complete serenity, even more so than the Heaven you call home.
You started meeting every night at a tree near your home. He would sing to you while you lay in his lap and dream. When he asked you what you dreamed about, he was surprised to hear that most of your dreams revolved around the human you were assigned to guide. You had been intrigued by her recent developments in love. ‘Love’ is a completely human concept so the idea infatuated both you and Bruno, and you wanted to try out this ‘love’ thing with him.
But Angels are beings created with pure reason. Love comes from the monster tendencies of desire deep within the human psyche. It was what separated the divine from the mundane.
People had noticed the relationship between the Seraphim and the lowly Angel and talk was getting around. Soon word had reached the ears of the absolute God that one of his Seraphim had become tainted with human ideals brought to him by a guardian angel. Both you and Bruno were brought before God for a fair trial. Bruno begged that your life in heaven be spared. He said that he was the one tainted, not the angel called you.
In the end, there was no hope for either of you. God deemed that you both be cast out of Heaven. You were both Fallen Angels now. God had spared Bruno by allowing him to stay by your side as you fell for an eternity. And now you are in each other's arms forever, falling into an abyss but still falling together.
Fugo - Wendigo (fairy/ human) Mage
A/n: Fugo’s race intentionally left sorta ambiguous and confusing because the creature he is based on is also sorta ambiguous and confusing. Fugo is based on Elias Ainsworth from a great anime/manga called The Ancient Magus’ Bride.
Fugo has never met another of his kind and that is because his very existence was an abomination. He wasn’t sure what he was, even after talking to the Fairy King who had an expansive knowledge of the world and its creatures, he still had no clue. Fugo had just popped into existence, he had no memory of who he was or where he came from, all he knew was that he needed to FEED.
After centuries of walking the earth alone, he found a nice groove to settle in and called it home. Now Fugo spends his days learning about the magic the world kept a secret. He was lonely, but content in his world of books. But soon, his life would change forever.
You had been a wandering magician in search of knowledge from the ancient world. You had only ever heard of Fugo from the priests of the local village. Since he was of good temperament (most times) you made the daring decision to knock on the fairy-human hybrids home and offered him something he could never turn down.
You had seen his kind before and so in exchange for copies of his expansive scrolls detailing spells long forgotten, you told him about his race and just how cursed the poor boy was.
He invited you to stay in his home where you would copy the scrolls you wanted/needed together while telling him stories of the only other Wendigo you had met. Fugo only noticed he started falling for you after he found himself staring a little too long at your sleeping form near the desk. You had spent all night and day copying scrolls so you could be out of his hair quickly. but Fugo found himself wanting you to stay.
It was then he made his desperate attempt to cross that barrier. He wanted to court you, make you his wife. But there was one fatal difference between the two of you that made you reluctant: He was immortal.
On the day you finished copying scrolls, he decided to light the scrolls on fire in front of you and declare his burning desire for you. You had been mad, you spent hours copying those damned scrolls! But once he asked for your hand in marriage with an offer of access to libraries that were now yours to keep and explore, you couldn’t turn him down. You were in love with the ancient mage and you weren’t gonna let some silly immortality stop you from loving him for the rest of your life.
So you lived together in the grove for the rest of your existence. You quickly grew old in front of Fugo’s eyes, but he wouldn’t trade you for the world. You spent every breath by Fugo’s side. And after you died, he took no other wife for he knew nobody could truly love an abomination like him but you.
Giorno - Fairy King
The Fairy King is considered one of the most ancient beings to have walked this earth. He is able to cross the boundary between the human realm and the fairy realm. He is tasked with protecting all Fae and the forests of the human realm. But lately, it seemed the humans had been forgetting about his existence and were threatening the forests of the world.
Giorno was a free spirit in the land of the Fae. He often held parties where fae would dance for years, and the wine was the best across all dimensions! He was proud of his kingdom and it’s people, but something always bothered him in the back of his mind, and that was the existence of humans and their wasteful, destructive tendencies.
One day when he was wandering the wood that protected the portal between the human and fairy realm, he stumbled upon a crying girl. He didn’t want to comfort her because she probably was just as destructive as every other human, but he couldn’t get the sounds of her crying to leave his mind. The poor girl hadn’t done anything wrong to him or his forests, so why should he rob her of his goodwill?
So he sat next to her, after applying a glamour of course! He sat next to her and reluctantly pushed her tiny human head onto his shoulder, so she knew she wasn’t alone. She turned to look up to the King and Giorno found himself blushing at her beauty. It was unparalleled to any fairy or human he had ever seen. The girl seemed to glow with Mother Nature’s blessing. Finally, he asked her what had her crying, and she told him.
“Humans are vile, evil little things. They do nothing but destroy the lives of the weak. I wish I could leave this place, there is nothing here for me Mr. Fairy boy.”
He was surprised that you had seen through his glamour. Humans had long since forgotten the art of magic so how could she tell he was using a glamour as a fairy? That was the first and last time you had seen each other for a while, but before you left you had promised him that you would thank him for his kindness. Giorno didn’t know what that meant, but he waited every day for the troubled girl to return to the forest.
Then one day, he felt her presence enter the trees, so he quickly exited the portal to meet her in the wood. The troubled girl was older now, she had a fuller body and eyes that were determined to achieve something. When he asked how she had been, she replied with a simple “I’m ready to leave my human life behind.” Which shocked Giorno. She handed him a paper and from reading it he gathered that she had spent a lot of money on buying the plot of land this forest rested on. Nobody was ever going to hurt it, she assured him.
Giorno had taken her right then, a human with a heart huge enough to work her entire life to buy just this one forest? Did she not know there were plenty of others? Either way, he found it cute. He allowed you to walk into the fairy world where you soon married him and became his Queen. After eating fairy food and drinking the fine wine and dancing for years with Giorno, you had become a fairy. You settled down, had fairy children, and now you spend the rest of your immortality together, frolicking in the forest you purchased when you were human.
Mista - Ifrit
The Ifrit are evil spirits close to the likes of a demon, but not all Ifrit are evil. Some Ifrit are just trying to make a goddamn living following the orders of whoever was above them. That was the case of Guido Mista, a benevolent Ifrit who just wants a simple life but is in a current money crisis.
Ifrit can be summoned, similar to demons, so they kinda just take turns being summoned by kids with Ouija boards and fuck around with them. Well, most Ifrit terrorize the kids for their mistake but Guido Mista just likes to fuck with them.
This was Mista’s 100th time being summoned so he was very excited to see the lucky human he would get to play pranks on. Then he ran into you, who made his life a living hell sometimes. He felt like you were more fit for the role of Ifrit than he ever was!
You summoned him once and scared him away with your obsession of evil artifacts and such that he was sure were just rumors spread by other assholes to make the humans fear them more. But you somehow figured out a way to summon him again and now you were basically his only client.
He grew to really adore you though. He liked the fact that a human could be so brave and evil, he found it extremely attractive how you would dare hit him for staring at your chest too long. He never did anything back though because he knew humans were fragile and he didn’t want to hurt you.
One day, you approached him with a...what is this a love note? You confessed that you had been slowly falling in love with him, even though he was your only friend and you didn’t really know what love meant. All you knew was that you really liked having the Ifrit around and you didn’t want him to leave anytime soon. Mista was ecstatic to hear this because he had returned the sentiments. Yeah, you were very weird for a human, but he came to like that the most about you. He didn’t care that your lives would be a bit unconventional (It’s not like he gets to meet your parents because the horns would probably be a major distraction) but he didn’t mind as long as you didn’t.
So now you guys live together like a typical husband-wife scenario except your husband was a demon and your life seemed to be turning into a strange slice-of-life anime.
P.S: When you tell Mista you’re pregnant and find out the Baby is due on April 4th, he is thoroughly convinced that he just fathered the anti-christ.
Narancia - Nine tales
Nine-tailed foxes are well known to take the form of beautiful women in order to seduce men to eat them. But Narancia doesn’t really like the way human bones poke at his jaws whenever he finds prey to feed on, so he settles with non-human substitutes like rabbits or cows. They were easy to catch anyway.
You were a Nine-Tails too, so you found Narancia’s habit of not eating humans very peculiar. You had been friends for a while, and you couldn’t say you spent most of your time with anyone else but Narancia, and that was because you were an outcast.
Outcast are virtually invisible to other Nine-tailed foxes. They liked to treat you like you weren’t even there so hardly anybody spoke to you. Whenever you were hunting, other foxes would be quick to point out your true nature to your prey, leaving you without food for the week. To them, you were better off dead. But to Narancia, you were his everything without even knowing. That’s why he was always the one to bring you food after another dry hunt, sure it was rabbit and cow, but it was better than nothing.
Soon, Narancia began to grow tired of being ‘just friends’. The other foxes had started to brand him as an outcast for talking to you, not that he minded. But he needed to know that his feelings were reciprocated and that he wasn’t risking his tribe for somebody who was going to leave him alone. He would surely die if he was an outcast, but with you, he knew he could survive. As long as he had you, he would take on anything the world threw at him.
When he approached you with his offer, you had beamed at him and accepted his proposal. He had been with you since you had been outcasted and you couldn’t thank him enough for the plenty of times he saved you, gave you food to eat and a roof over your head. Then the other foxes had to come and ruin the moment...
The chief was with them, smirking at the ‘pathetic’ display the two of you had put on. The chief of your clan stated that though Narancia was one of his most trusted soldiers, he would be branded an outcast for having relations with one. He simply smiled at you and brought you in for a kiss, like a seal of marriage. He declared you his with no hesitation and swept you off your feet to lead you elsewhere, where the two of you could love each other undisturbed.
Soon, you gave birth to a litter of three and made Narancia the happiest fox in the world! Together you lived in a burrow along a perfect meadow where hardly anyone, fox or human, disturbed the land.
