rin's ego as a striker is intrinsically tied to sae- both when his goal is to become number two with sae at his side and later, when he wants to become the best solely to spite his brother. sae's dissolution of their shared dream is both an attempt to free himself from the insurmountable expectation that he will become the world's greatest striker (something he realized was impossible while he was in spain), and also an attempt to free rin's ego from his own. from the beginning of blue lock, it's been established that genius goalies and defenders and midfielders (!) can be born, whereas strikers are created different from the beginning. observant, intelligent sae knows, even as a kid, that rin has something he simply doesn't- a natural sense of the field, the ability to smell a weak spot in the defense. rin's natural talent abounds, but it takes more than just talent to become a genius striker. sae knows that rin posesses talent in spades, but his underdeveloped ego (or even lack of ego entirely) is holding him back. while it might seem misguided and cruel, sae recognizes that rin's dependence on him is restrictive, and attempts to end it. it is not enough for rin to just latch on to sae's ambitions and goals. to develop the ego of a world-class striker, he needs to develop ambition and ego of his own.

Sorry if this is too hot of a take, but Winslow and Swan are not all that different at their core. After all, they both signed the same contract for pretty shallow reasons. I really dislike the notion of Winslow being an innocent, gullible victim, I think that takes a lot of integrity from him, and dumbs his character down. In the end, it was him who sold his soul for rock-n-roll, too. He wanted his cantata to be heard all around the globe, thus, I think, it's safe to say he wanted to be famous as it's author as well. I think he wanted glory, just as much as Swan does. Well, even before he knew that Swan stole his work, he was tracking him, going to the Swanage because he wanted credit, wanted Swan to make his work famous.

Also- they both wanted Phoenix. Winslow really just heard a woman sing his song beautifully, and became obsessed with her, without knowing anything about her at all.

Okay I'll wrap it up- I think everyone in the movie are kinda bad, and I don't like when people talk about Winslow as a perfect, do-no-wrong boy. Also I'm going CRAZYYYY over parallels between Winslow and Swan. Everything what can be said about Swan also applies to Winslow, and vice versa.

Incredibly rough/quick notes I took while putting this together, mostly in terms of timeline and mental state. I didn't bother for Pretty Hate Machine or Downward Spiral because they're way more straightforward to me, either taking place pre-show or skipping ahead a bit to correspond with seasons 5-9

Pretty Hate Machine (and Broken) sets the stage, with Dennis coming to terms with his trauma, and realizing that sex and drugs are going to be his coping strategies of choice after Klinsky's abuse also Sin and The Only Time are him sucking and fucking dudes this whole album is certified faggotry. Downward Spiral is in large part the DENNIS system and torturing women. Throwing himself headlong into automation until he runs almost completely on autopilot, becomes emotionless, hates the monster he's become, always trying to seize control through sex. Jealousy of the women that he fucks, both for what he perceives as an inherent power they hold over him thank you barbara and klinsky, but also because this is where Victoria first appears in the form of what Dennis perceives as his own sexual deviance.

and iirc besides gym leaders who terastallize their ace into their specialised type, kieran is the only one who terastallizes his pokemon into a type different from hydrapple’s og types? Why fighting tho. The only advantage I can see is to resist bug and hit ice with fighting tera blast??? There are better options for hydrapple’s tera type but if you say so buddy. Point is he’s one of the only ones who doesn’t use a Pokémon’s default tera type which is interesting, he’s not just going tera orb yippee (blank soulless stare) but actually. Y’know. Utilising the type change aspect of tera types.
