Hi, I really like making little personalized references for characters I like when I get into things! I do this to figure out how I wanna draw them, and is a recent-ish development that I haven’t done a lot, but I really like character design and thinking about them! So I made some for Siffrin. How fun!

DO NOTE THAT THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR LATER PARTS OF THE GAME. I did obviously tag it as such for the sake of others and it will be further down, but I figured I’d still warn you just in case. <:3

Now, without further ado, here’s “reference one!”

I’m personally gonna be using this in conjunction with Siffrin’s actual reference sheet (which I refer to as “notes” in mine!!) to make sure he look his best! I also wanted to make sure they’re “in line with canon,” yet still in my style and in a way I can be proud of.

Which isn’t that hard, since I’m usually always proud of my own work. I just like my own stuff. <:3

Due to the brim of his hat allegedly being bean-shaped (teehee), I thought it’d be fun if I carried that over to his torso/body. It’s not noticeable with a cloak in the way, nor when Siffrin’s standing straight up. Basically, the bean shape would only be revealed in certain poses.

(Coming up with that also made me say “Whoops! All beans!” out loud about Siffrin, btw.)

Additionally, I like giving characters is their own set of fangs. One character I draw has a gap between them and the rest of their teeth, one has prominent ones to make them more cat like on purpose — and for Siffrin, I decided to give them rounded ones.

I usually make fangs razor sharp, because I really like big ol chompers like that, so them being round is definitely a very unique thing for Siffrin to have. Well, at least at first.

I’m also a really big fan of certain design elements sticking around after something wild happens to characters… which brings us to “reference two.”

Well, if you’re not gonna be able to find any good references for this version of Siffrin, you might as well make your own, right??

The major thing I wanted to do with this Siffrin was to have him still feel like himself, but also give him somewhat of a unique design in comparison — by playing up elements I noticed during this scene.

Making this Siffrin feel as giant as they are was important to me. I went ahead and made their hat, face, hair and cloak longer. Made their shoulders broader, had them hunch over so they’d practically loom over everyone. Trying to appear smaller while still being an obstacle. Wanting everyone to stay here. Wanting their family.

I noticed that a lot of Siffrin’s hair seemed a lot more angular here, so I felt it crucial to use those shapes, but going a couple steps further and using them for his face as well… primarily his mouth and chin, of course. Which meant replacing those rounded fangs I gave him with a full set of sharper ones.

(I also wanted them to look like they’re too big for Siffrin’s mouth, so two of them — well, four? — will always peek out/fall past their lower lip. It’s like their teeth are not a comfortable fit whatsoever and it makes talking feel weird, but they manage.)

(They stick around after Siffrin “reverts back” or whatever we’re calling it. He never gets his round fangs back, but at least the ones he has now serve as a reminder that he got to the end. Might take some getting used to, though.)

(I also tried making their brows look a bit more angular? Can’t tell if they really come across that way.)

ANYWAY, I THINK I SHOULD STOP HAHAHA. I could go on and on all day, but I got other things to do and I think I’ve already explained enough! Just know that I get a kick out of putting love and care into character thoughts and designs. <:3

Does Dandelion not have a mouth, or is it just not visible a percentage of the time?

Oh he has a mouth! It's just not visible most of the time lol. Got some big ol' chompers and tongue that he brings out when he needs to (or, uh, just wants to lol)

Bonus rambling about my design Thoughts because I want to:

Honestly most of it is just looking at an animal and thinking “yeah that has Tango energy”; notably:

Pangolin (tail + scales)

Tiger (general body shape + stripes (and lil paws!!)

Bull (horns)

I also thought about adding some armadillo lizard in there? Because again,, the vibes - but honestly that’s pretty well covered with the pangolin lol

Most of his markings are also meant to mimic chrisrin’s design! I pretty much just slapped some extra stuff on top for the corruption, since carnelian can have little veins and spots in it sometimes. I honestly didn’t look at references for super long so they’re not super accurate to what those look like in the actual gemstone but whatever. They look cool. Also I gave him freckles because I can and they’re cute.

I changed the colors because, tbh, they clashed with the fire I drew LMAO. But! Also carnelian can be very orange and corruption changes the colors of gems sometimes anyway (if I remember right, at least).

I tried to mimic the au art style to an extent but I have never been good an mimicking styles lol so it didn’t exactly turn out. I don’t think it’s too far off though! Especially in the design itself. The big ol’ chompers is definitely su energy

socktober week 4!!

day 20: waters. in Cosmo Celeste, there are always people sailing both the waters below and the waters above, so i drew Cosmo saying hello to some random sailor as they fly past!

day 21: nurse. well, obviously i had to beat someone up for this prompt, and Agent Phoenix felt like the most fun choice! i had so much fun in fact that i wrote a whole fanfic about it lol

day 22: circus. i’ve known since i looked at the prompt list i wanted to do the amazing digital circus for this day, so i drew my two favorite characters, made em as neon as possible, and called it good

day 23: cold. i had art block this day so it didn’t turn out very well, but here’s my OC Wizard whose magical gimmick is that he gets cold when he uses his powers

day 24: fall. here in parkour civilization, sometimes, you have to fall in order to rise back up. you’d better BELIEVE i watched both movies and got super invested

day 25: vampire. i’m going to be real i had no idea what to do with this prompt since i am NOT a vampire girly (werewolves 1000% for me) but my mom suggested drawing a bat and the only bat i could think of was Rouge from Sonic the Hedgehog so i gave her some big ol chompers and called it a day

day 26: lamp. i was originally doing to do the Radiance and make a moth joke but i decided that a simple atmospheric piece would be less stressful

only five days left! whew, i’m glad, i’m a bit tired… but we push through!

Ah, good ol’ Fang

This is still one of my favorite doodles of one of his best features lol. He’s got them BIG chompers.

This walking smokestack is pretty and ugly at the same time, and he’s also pretty gross and dramatic. He doesn’t use hand held weapons very often, preferring to barrel over his opponents and trample them with his hooves. He’d grab an unlucky sod and bite their head off too.

With his history in music, Firefang almost seems like he’s dancing and singing as he’s tearing up his shorter quarry. Definitely looks like he’s having a good time and partying anyway.

Yánjiāng

Mama's boy through and through

However, Yánjiāng likes to show his affection for people he loves by teasing and lightly bullying them and unfortunately his mom gets it the worst (affectionate)

It's mostly because they're short compared to all their children and husband, and Yánjiāng is the tallest of the ginkgo kids.

A lot of putting things out of reach and pretending to use his mom's head as an armrest, and he gets the dumbest shit eating grin whenever they scold him.

He also does it so he can be the one to help his mom when they need something.

Wifey knows it's all in good fun so they don't actually scold him when he does it, but man when they do scold him for real, the shame is so palpable. He looks like a kicked puppy.

If anyone hurts his mom, he might not be the first to attack but he's definitely leading the other ginkgo kids and he's hitting the hardest. He gets that from his father.

Lihua

I'd say she's a daddy's girl

I think she's equally close with both parents and in different ways, but it's her father's validation she wants more

It's not that she doesn't want to impress her mom, but more that she doesn't worry about disappointing Wifey the same way she worries about disappointing Morax

When she was still a little boy I imagine the two of them would have done a lot of typically masculine activities, namely a lot of play fighting and training, but as she grew up and was figuring things out, she hung out with her mom more and enjoyed "feminine" activities

She was pretty confident he would support her transition, but was worried they weren't going to have the same bond as before she came out

Was SUPER relieved when he was not only super supportive of her coming out, but actively took interest in her new hobbies/interests

She lets him braid her hair or do her makeup

She's also a little cocky like Yánjiāng so she likes to say she's the favourite child/daughter, and she still calls him "baba"

Zhusha

She's actually closer to her mother than father

I not only imagine her looking the most like Wifey, but also acting the most like them too

She's not as rowdy as her siblings, so it's more natural that while they're roughhousing and what not, Zhusha sticks with the other family introvert

She happens to control sedimentary rocks, and you know what's in sedimentary rocks? Sand and clay

You get glass from sand and pottery from clay, so as such I think she would have naturally drifted more towards art and specifically sculpting, so that's how her and Wifey bond

I just really like the mental image I have in my head of Zhusha making the bowls and vases while Wifey paints them

In my head Wifey's always preferred drawing and painting over sculpting, but that's my own bias towards drawing

I don't get to talk about her as much as the others and I should do that more

Absolute daddy's girl

All the ginkgo kids have pointier canines but only her and Feng have big ol fangs like baba (Feng's are bigger though, he's got CHOMPERS)

Unlike her siblings though she did NOT get his height and she WILL stay mad about that

She's still taller than mom but STILL

Loves listening to her baba's rambling, especially about geology

Also she's the type that presents herself as very Mature and Serious, but is actually not just very silly but also an absolute menace

Whenever her older siblings would go to tell on her she'd put on the waterworks and run to Morax like "baba they're bullying me!!!"

Nothing is more infuriating than seeing the evil smirk of a four year old girl while your father scolds you for something you didn't even do

That only worked a few times when she was very little, it stops working once you're older than like six and your parents have figured it out, or when you reach the age that your siblings can dish back to you without mercy

Feng

He's a big ole mama's boy

He's a golden retriever himbo with a great big heart of gold, and because Wifey is still a "mortal" he wants to make sure they're safe and happy and all that good stuff

He and his sister also share the most resemblance with Wifey

When Feng lost his leg, Wifey was the only member of the family he could be comforted by, he didn't want to be around his siblings and couldn't handle being around Morax

Tldr: Feng had a forge and the rule was that he could only go in if Morax was there, Feng went in and ended up pouring metal on his leg which ended in him getting it amputted

He already felt awful because he felt like those were the consequences of his actions, but felt worse when Morax suggested he lose forge privileges for a while because he broke the rules

That sparked a whole argument between him and Wifey because Feng lost his leg, that's punishment enough, which also made him feel bad because he'd never seen his parents argue before and it was about him

He was too ashamed and upset to be around Morax until Wifey put them in the same room and made them talk it out

This story does have a happy ending, I promise. Feng loves his dad, they get along really well, but who knows what would have become of them if not for Wifey.

Anything my beta reader adds onto this in regards to the twins is also canon fyi, she basically yoinked them and we have joint custody

Rolling onto his back when the little one took to rest on his lap, making sure he was secure before he relaxed. Giving the kitten a chin scratch for good measure along with his praise for his accomplishment. It would be interesting if one day Mo could get past his ears — very few could, not less his hearing was busted in some way. He'd be impressed if he could achieve what a rare few had been able to do.

His attention shifting from Mo to Wukong. Expression hardening and become guarded once his focus was on the other simian — clear he was keeping up his defenses still with him. Letting his claws shift from scratching under the young cub's chin to behind his ears, his other being propped under his head as relaxed on the branch.

"That's to be expected."

Shrugging lightly in response — he hadn't been told everything, but he knew that the blue kitten had to leave Sandy after an incident involving the other cats. No doubt both being heartbroken over the decision but knowing it was for the best. He just hoped Mo still got to see the one he viewed as a father rather than cutting all ties with him. Least Mo seemed to be doing alright here, seemingly happy among the mountains and learning to control his newfound abilities that would be blossoming more and more as he matured. It was going to be interesting watching him grow.

"We'll have to compare chompers once your big demon teeth come in, kiddo."

His attention turning back to the kitten in his lap, smiling playfully in response. It would be fun to play around like that — he had done it long ago with younger members of the troop back home, letting them growl and roar playfully back and forth. Showing off the fangs that were slowly growing. He had always let them 'win' in those moments.

A happy greeting meow left the kitten as he let the older demon lift him upwards, Mo was a tiny thing...only weighing a few pounds, at most four. Still, the little demon cub hopped up into the shadow's lap, purring loudly as Mo gently bumped his head against the other. It was clear that Mo was happy to see him at least, not that Wukong blamed him...Mo always somehow saw the best in people. There was only really two people that the cat hated and one of them had turned to dust on the wind. And Macaque was a good man, no matter the world...from what Wukong had seen, the other always played worse than he really was.

"Thanks! I've been practicing!" Came the happy mew from the cub, his paws now had proper thumbs if one looked. The kitten's body was slowly shifting into a proper demon... he'd always be a cat but he was starting to lose the mortal appearance. "Too little for a fight, so...sneak!"

Wukong turned around to watch the interaction between the cub and older demon, setting a hand on his hip as his expression softened into a genuine smile. It was nice to see Macaque so relaxed around someone, looks like someone had a weakness for cubs. Or at least for Mo....to be fair Wukong was pretty sure that cat could make friends with almost anyone if he wanted to. Mo was like MK in that way, when they wanted to they could get along with anyone but don't betray that trust or they'd never forgive you.

"Mo's owner can no longer take care of him since Mo's baby demon teeth and claws came in." The king explained why the kitten was on the island, unable to remember if he had explained the presence of the cub to Macaque in the past. "They're not as sharp or as sturdy as the adult demon teeth and claws but its still enough that no mortal can handle them. Can't hurt me or other demons however...So my troop and I have welcomed him into our ranks, been looking after him ever since."

Yet Another Big Ol Ask Post

They may have an angel face, but they’re a born and bred heavily trained soldier through and through! Sadie may be on the younger side, but they can absolutely hold their own against an opponent or two, or FIVE.

Megs just always worries bc that’s his job, to worry and to hover and to protect even if he definitely overdoes it. His ‘baby’ really isn’t a baby anymore and that’s not smth he wants to admit anytime soon.

Crusade will always need Megs in some way or another, that’s their Carrier!! but really it’s Megs who needs Crusade the most :’) he just wants to see them safe as the possibly can be, tough job during wartime for sure.

now that’s the long answer ^^ here’s my preferred one:

Dw I haven’t been asked this before! They were about the equiv. of 12 years old they came out

Crusade always knew growing up that they were different, whether it be that they were so small for their age, why they had no claws, why their armor couldn’t quite take as big of a punch on the sparring mats, or why they never really quite felt right standing along their comrades—feeling almost like an imposter in their own frame. They knew that there was some side of them that was not quite ONE label and the other another, not even a mix of the two, but something entirely new.

Announcing their new chosen titles was a struggle only because they didn’t have much confidence in the importance of their voice. They’d gotten enough sneers as is simply for just existing at their Carrier’s hip—to ask for accommodation and acknowledgement for these new titles was a daunting task, but Megatron was there for them and their request was respected.

Slip-ups happened, corrections were made, and Crusade had never felt more secure—more like their own mecha before. Megatron couldn’t have been more proud to see his child genuinely so comfortable, he’d suspected for a long while that Crusade had been holding their breath about something, he was just relived Crusade had the courage to take charge and make the change they needed!

So the build up was a struggle, but they thrived after coming out. Acceptance was met entirely.

Tarn fulfilled the vulnerable favor that was asked of him by his leader. He performed extremely well and Megatron never once wanted for nothing. Tarn wished this rare closeness was met under a more ideal circumstance, but he took was was offered to him—which was a relationship exclusively formed out of necessity.

Tarn liked to pretend they were something more at times

Megatron knew he needed a pseudo-Sire that he could call on to be efficient, and above all trust worthy as his own high command didn’t exactly have the time or hold enough favor in their leader to assist Megatron. Tarn was a bit overzealous and even more clingy with his task, but he was undoubtedly loyal, more than physically capable of caring for both him and his unborn passenger.

Once his job was finished and Crusade’s needs were met, Megatron cut off their meetings entirely. Tarn understood—and on top of that was grateful, as he didn’t exactly want to stick around to play daddy to an newborn Autobot spawn, but that didn’t stop him from making the occasional under the table proposition to his Leader.

Tarn and Crusade do not have any sort of relationship outside of military based interactions.
