brainrioting over domestic zhaolu and stepdad! zhao especially. pls im thinking about him taking care of lucifer's little brothers and satan and belphie literally adore him so much (crying)
STEPDAD ZHAO!! he speaks to the teachers for belphie when he's caught sleeping in class or was too tired to do his homework and nearly always gets him let off the hook. after a while belphie starts getting genuinely sulky if zhao goes too long without tucking him into bed
(mammon's like "aren't you embarrassed, you're a grown demon" and belphie just chucks a pillow at him and goes to ask zhao to make him some hot chocolate)
he brings satan snacks whenever he's fixated on a book and tries to make them cat-themed whenever possible... one time satan gets a bowl of carrots cut into wonky cat-head shapes and he doesn't even like carrots, but he still eats them all
he talks to shop workers when levi's too nervous to, makes sure beel always has access to something nice and filling, helps asmo film stuff and is like 'you're doing great champ!!' the whole time, and is very painstakingly teaching mammon how to cook :')
#answering asks#anon asks#zhaolu#zhaoxi starts packing some of the brothers' lunches for them and lucifer's like 'a-xi. my beloved. they can feed themselves i promise'#but zhao just starts doing it for him as well and lucifer is oddly silent about the packed lunches after that#sometimes barbatos comes over to supervise the brothers while lucifer takes zhao out on a date#he's good at reining them in but he does hear a constant stream of stuff like 'but zhao always lets me read at the dinner table >:('#dad in the devildom#zhao is one of the only things that can stop an anti-lucifer league scheme in its tracks#he hears about the plan and goes 'boys that's not very nice :('#and satan and belphie are immediately like yes dad sorry dad#also if little ik just comes in asking to play they'll immediately drop the plan and do that instead#(lucifer learns these facts and has begun to weaponise them)

A Life Saver
•LEVI ACKERMAN x READER
•Overview: Levi saves you, someone he barely knew, from certain death
•Warnings: mentions of death, gore description, cursing, near death experience, bit of angst, very brief mention of sex
•Season: season one range with a few altercations
-
At first, you didn’t want to become a scout. The thought of putting your life on the line wasn’t appealing, and it really just scared the hell out of you. Serving in the military police was a path you chose to go down. It was what you wanted for awhile then things started to not feel right.
The scouts were putting other lives before their own and you began to admire their bravery. Even when things looked like there was no light on the other side they pushed through. They proved that even mass death can result in a small victory that gave the people hope, something to help the nation push forward.
After serving in the military police for many years you decided it was time to step down. You wanted to become a scout, you wanted to help make a change. Your comrades thought you were absolutely insane, and they begged you to not make the choice. You refused, and soon you joined the scouts.
Mission after mission you survived and killed titans. You lost friends way too often, and the hurt and loneliness that came with the job would make anyone break. You’d been broken from the inside out in ways you’d never imagined. At the end of the day, you knew it was for the greater good.
The hope for a change only became greater when a boy showed up with the abilities of a titan. You knew to have such strength on your side was promising, and you saw light at the end of the extremely dark tunnel.
You’d served many long heart wrenching years by the time hope like that had shown up, and it only pushed you to keep going. You longed to live in a world without titans. All you wanted was to run free in field and see new things.
Today was a normal day, but that’s how any bad day starts. You’d woke up early to watch the sunrise with your close, and pretty much last friend, Molly. She was the best person you’d ever met and had been by your side for years. You had never admired anyone more than her.
“You know that titan kid is only fifteen, isn’t that insane?” She says before taking a sip of the coffee you had made her.
Your eyebrows raise at her words, “Wait really?”
The women laughs a bit at your shocked reaction then nods her head. She sets her coffee on the blanket you two are sitting on then leans back onto her hands, staring up at the sky that swirls with colors of orange and pink.
“To have this kind of hope is the best feeling i’ve had in years,” she says, “this is going to unlock so many closed doors we don’t know about. I think that finally we’re going to get some answers about how the hell the world turned into this mess.”
The smile on her face was full of such joy. She truly was excited for the future, you’d never seen someone actually look forward to what is lying ahead. A few days ago everyone thought titans would rein for hundreds of more years. Then all of the sudden that perspective has changed and no one knows what is going to come next.
“Yeah, I hope the future is bright,” you whispered.
You lay down to stare up at the sky, and Molly follows your movements. The two of you lay there in silence, thinking of a peaceful world where so much fear and death does not exist. You turn your head to look at your bestfriend to find her eyes are already on you.
“Our futures are bright, (y/n),” she says with a smile, “We’re going to live in cute little houses by the ocean!”
You can’t help but smile and roll your eyes at her. She always brought up this big body of water she’d read about in an illegal book when she was a teenager. The women could go on an on about it, as if she’d seen it before herself.
“If the ocean is even real,” you say with a smirk.
She scoffs at you before rolling her eyes harder than you just had, “Of course it’s real!”
You two spend the next hour talking about what you’d do or who you’d be doing if life were different. Molly wished for a family, to fall in love. She’d talked about it many times before but she refused to bring children into a world like this. You felt similar, expect children weren’t really on your radar. You longed to fall in love and grow old with someone.
But everyday brought death and destruction. You didn’t want to fall madly in love and then watch your whole world crumble as a titan took them away from you. The pain you had from your friends screaming your name as monsters had them in their grip was already too much to bare.
Heavy footsteps came in your direction at high speed, and soon you could hear heavy breathing along with it. You and Molly sat up quickly and saw one of your comrades running at you with pure fear in their eyes.
“Wall rose has been compromised!” They scream, voice laced with panic.
Molly’s eyes widen right as yours do. The feeling of uncertainty course through your veins almost instantly. You’ll never get used to the way your stomach drops when you hear things like that. Who could ever get used to that? Knowing you’re about to watch more people die would make anyone feel this way.
Before you know it you’re running to get your uniform on and strap on your gear. No one saw this coming. Then again, how the hell would they see this coming? You scramble to find you gear and you panic as it’s no where to be found.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck!” You yell as the panic begins to set in.
Hands grab each of your shoulders to hold you still, and that’s when you see Molly’s worried eyes. She looks at you with concern. The last mission had both of you on edge more than ever before. Both of you lost someone dear, someone who was close to you as you were to each other. Knowing that today you could lose Molly was making your mind and body think like a mad man.
“You gear is with my stuff, remember? You didn’t want to lose it so you asked me to hold onto it,” she reminds you.
The sweet women pulls you into a tight hug, and you can feel her body trembling. The two of you had no time for this, people were probably already being slaughtered. Right as you begin to think this a scream rips through the air, one that makes you two grip one another tighter.
“We’re going to fight and we’re going to survive,” she says sternly, “do you hear me? Don’t you dare die on me (y/n).”
You nod into her chest as tears begin to form in your eyes. So much could change in an instant and you wished time could freeze so you could hug your bestfriend forever. But reality was sinking in and you knew you had titans to kill and lives to save.
The hug was short lived, and soon you were faced with the destruction held within wall rose. Titans stomped around mindlessly, some with those creepy smiles that you absolutely hated.
Your blades cut through nape after nape and your head was starting to spin. Somewhere along the way you lost Molly, which had never happened before. You hated not having her around. The constant fear of not knowing what position she could possibly be in made you sick to your stomach.
You flew through the air at a high speed, trying to get leverage on the abnormal that was chasing after you. It’s mouth hung open as it’s disgusting blood drenched touched dripped into the buildings below. You’d never faced an abnormal and didn’t expect it to dodge your attack minutes ago.
Sure you were extremely skilled but it’s hard to work your way around a fast moving titan. It’s arms flew in the air behind it, the beast was an odd sight. You’d never witnessed a titan act so strangely before.
You’d been observing the monster too closely, but only for a few seconds. But as any soldier knows, a few moments can cost you your entire life. You turned your attention back infront of you but you didn’t have time to react before you slammed into a chimney. Out of all things that could’ve contributed to your death it just had to be a damn chimney.
The impact made your vision blur and you couldn’t even really feel the pain. The sun beamed down on you as your body layed limp on the rooftop. The sky was a beautiful shade of blue, and you wished you could fly up there with the birds and be free.
The abnormals hand picked you off the home as if you were nothing, only a small ant compared to it. It’s eyes were completely lifeless as it stared at you with hunger.
“Don’t you dare die on me (y/n)!”
Molly’s words rang through your mind but you couldn’t move. The injury to your head made you feel as if you were in a dream. There was no sense of reality right now, you couldn’t even comprehend that you were about to reach your end.
In a way you knew, reality wasn’t too far off. But you couldn’t find the energy to fight back. It had all been drained from you as the battle continued, and the final blow left you motionless.
You closed your eyes hoping somehow that’d stop you from feeling the coming pain. Every part of you didn’t want to die. Molly’s dreams about living by the ocean had become yours as well even if you wouldn’t admit it. The thought of leaving her with no body brought tears to your eyes.
That’s when you tried to move with the little energy left in your body, but it was no use. The tears began to stream down your face and the fear began to set in. Fear like this had never been within you, it was a brand new feeling. You guess certain death does that to you.
“No!” You say as loud as you can, “Someone please help me!”
Knowing this is what so many of the people you loved had to experience broke your heart. It was already bad enough to know they were gone and you couldn’t have saved them. But this was so much worse, they died with such fear. Fear that almost paralyzed you.
The sound of blades ripping through skin filled your ears. The titans grip on you loosened, then let go completely. You felt yourself falling, but you kept your eyes closed. Fear had already made its way to every inch of your body and you couldn’t move even more than before.
Right before you slammed to the ground below strong arms caught you. A grunt slipped past the unknown persons lips at the impact of your body. They carried you into a near by tavern that was deserted of people, then set you on one of the tables.
“Hey,” the deep voice said, “c’mon now I know you aren’t dead, don’t go out like this.”
Your eyes fluttered open to see the dangerously handsome man in your face. He was awfully close, you could feel his breath on your nose. His eyes were wide with concern.
“Captain Levi?” You asked followed by a gut wrenching cough. Blood splattered onto your lips and you groaned.
He couldn’t have been the one who saved you, right? You’d only talked to Levi a handful of times, and all were him giving you orders. You’d never had a desire to talk to him even if you found him incredibly attractive.
You’d admired the man for years as well. He has lost as many people as you, maybe more. He had already been on the scouts for many years before you joined. The man had watched the passion you held as you killed titans at alarming speed. He knew exactly who you were and what you had to offer, that’s why he saved you.
He smiled softly at you, not even enough for you to notice. For a second he thought you wouldn’t wake up and he’d be carrying a lifeless body back to medical. You cough a bit more before sitting up. A gasp slips past your lips and pain shoots through your body.
“Holy shit that fucking hurts,” you curse.
You see the fresh blood on your hands and wonder if it’s yours. The pounding in your head only increases as you move. The room felt like it was spinning and you may vomit any second.
“Do I need to take you to medical?” He asks with concern in his voice.
Your vision looks at the raven haired man and your memory starts to come back. One second you were flying through the air and then stupidly slammed into a chimney. And that damned titan was about to feast on you, what a bitch. Then you realized Levi was the one who stopped you from your near death.
“Why did you save me?” You ask without answering him first.
He sighs at your question. He had only moved that fast to save someone a handful of times. It just felt right to save you. He was there, you were there, he couldn’t just let you die. It wasn’t too far out of reach, he had already been headed in your direction.
“Because you’re strong and the scouts need you,” he answers, “now tell me if I need to take you to medical.”
His features were stern and it made your stomach flip a bit. If there weren’t titans outside and pain wasn’t consuming your body you may have thrown out a stupid flirtatious remark due to your bubbly personality. But this wasn’t the time and place no matter how good the captain looked right now.
“I just need a minute,” you said softly as you pushed your weight off the table.
You hissed in pain before stretching your body. The bones in your body crack loudly and you let out a low grunt at the feeling. The pounding in your head began to simmer and you took deep breaths.
“Thank you captain Levi,” you said, “my friend would’ve personally brought me back to just kill me herself.”
He chuckled a bit at your remark and you couldn’t even recall captain Levi smiling let alone chuckling. This whole situation was weird and unrealistic to you. Maybe you were already dead and this was your afterlife. A hot guy saves you and later you two will go to bone town, sounds pretty fun.
“I literally ran into a chimney,” you grumbled.
Levi’s eyes squinted at your words in confusion, “You what?”
“I didn’t get caught by a titan while trying to kill it heroically. I wasn’t paying attention for like three seconds and slammed into a damn chimney, not too sure the scouts really need me,” you say.
He shakes his head at your words and was becoming annoyed by your self doubt.
“I know, I saw,” he says and your cheek almost immediately turn red, “and I still saved you cause I thought you were worth it.”
You couldn’t get words out after what he said. You only stared at him in shock. He saw you make a foul out of yourself but yet still risked his life to save you. Levi truly was an interesting man.
“Well then, thank you again,” you say, “maybe I should thank you in a different way.” You wiggle your eyebrows then let out a laugh into your palm as his face falls at your words.
“Holy shit i’m kidding, please don’t make me do laps for that. Jokes make me feel better,” you still were holding back laughter at the face Levi made. You never thought you’d make the captain flustered like that.
“Uh,” his cheeks redden, “We need to get back out there. It’s starting to get worse, are you sure you’re okay (y/n).”
You take a deep breath before nodding your head. The two of you immediately begin to speed walk towards the open door of the tavern.
“I’m going to need you to follow me. The titans are huddled in the west and help is needed there,” he orders you and you respond with a yes captain, which always makes you cringe.
“Oh and by the way,” he says with a smirk, “that other way of thanking me is always welcome.”
This time he leaves you flustered. He heads west and you stand there for a few seconds before you remember you’re supposed to be following him. His remark might have you slamming into another chimney.
After fighting for hours many people had been successfully moved to wall sina. Some titans still mindlessly walked around within the walls of rose, but atleast many people were saved. There was still a great heartfelt loss that day.
When you got back to base your heart was pounding in your ears. All you could think about was Molly and if she was okay. You hadn’t seen her since you two got separated during the hell bent events. Your eyes scanned frantically through the base, searching for her everywhere.
Your mind went to the worst place possible and you begin to panic. She had to be okay, she was all you had. You needed her more than anyone else. If she’s gone you might as well let a titan eat you during your next mission. Molly kept you alive, and kept you fighting.
“(y/n)?” You hear a familiar deep voice ask.
You spin on your heals and are met with the same deep brown eyes that saved you earlier today. Levi looked upset, face a bit fallen. That’s when your heart sank to your stomach. Did he know where Molly was? Or if she had even made it back?
“Follow me,” he says without any other detail.
He starts walking and you immediately follow as your heart races. At this point you wouldn’t be surprised if he could hear it. Your eyes scan to a sign that says medical as Levi opens the door below it.
You’re led to a the back of the room and you gasp at the sight. On the bed layed Molly with bandages covering many parts of her body. Your eyes fill with tears at the safe shes in, this was too much.
“She’s going to be okay, and the nurse told me she should be up soon,” he says.
You nod your head at his words before reaching to hold Molly’s hand, it was cold as ice.
“Can you please get her a blanket,” you state, it wasn’t even a question. It was more like you weren’t letting go of her hand, more like you couldn’t.
Levi nods and fetches her a couple blankets. He covers her for you and you thank him. The tears still run down your face, but you had already stopped wiping them away. It was no use because they just kept coming harder and harder as you looked at your bestfriend.
“Thank you Levi, I would’ve gone crazy looking for her back there,” you smile through the hurt.
He only hums in response to your words, letting silence fill the air. His hand comes to rest on your shoulder and his fingers move slightly to give you some comfort. It truly was a nice feeling to have someone with you right now, you might think too hard if he wasn’t here.
“I’ll give you some space-“ “no,” You cut him off, “please don’t go.”
Levi sees the hurt in your eyes. He could tell you needed someone right now even if he wasn’t much of a comforting person.
“okay,” he whispers.
He then pulls up a chair next to yours and sits with you for the next few hours in silence. It was somewhat nice, for both of you. Molly begins to stir in her sleep and your perk up. Her eyes flutter open and the first thing she sees is you and she smiles.
“We’ll look at that,” she smiles, “you’re just obsessed with me aren’t you (y/n).”
You laugh through happy tears forming in your eyes. She takes a deep breath and tries to stretch her body but the pain to still too much. She feels your grip on her hand and she squeezes at yours.
“You didn’t think i’d go out that easily did you,” she asks with a smirk on her chapped lips.
“Not for a second,” you said back almost immediately.
She lets out a small laugh at your words. For a second she did think she was going to die as a titan smacked her body mid-air, but that’s all she can remember. It was that, and then she wakes up in medical confused as hell. But seeing you made her know she definitely was okay. Her eyes scan to the figure next to you to see captain Levi. You’d told her before that you’d totally jump his bones if he let you.
“Did you screw the captain while I was out?” she asks playfully.
You and Levi’s breath hitch at her words and she can’t help but let out a laugh. It hurt her chest to laugh that hard but it also in a way made her feel better.
“Really Molly? You were just half dead a few minutes ago and that’s what you wanted to say?” You couldn’t help but laugh along with her. You’d rather her make you and the captain flustered than her be dead.
Levi couldn’t help but smile widely, but he put his head down to hide it. That day you and Levi developed a liking for each other, and both of you couldn’t remember the last time you felt this way.
The lives you each led was going to make it hard, but feelings are strong.
After an hour or so of talking to Molly she fell back asleep for some well needed rest. Levi walked with you down the hall back to your room, making small talk that was hard to even keep going.
“Thank you again Levi,” you look at him with sparkling eyes, “I’m pretty sure anyone else besides Molly would’ve let me be titan desert.”
“Of course, I would never let you be titan desert,” he mumbles the last part. He’d never heard someone refer to themselves as titan desert before, it almost made him laugh.
You stop at your door and look at his with an adoring gaze. He truly was nice looking, and incredibly brave. You wanted to be just like him, you wanted to be even stronger than him one day.
Before you could think you were leaning in to kiss his cheek. His eyes widen and his face heats up. The action rendered him speechess and he watched as your reached for the handle and opened the door before slipping in your room without another word.
He stayed in the hallway for a few seconds staring at where you just stood.
“Shit,” he whispered.
That only sparked his feelings for you further, and he knew this was the beginning of something he’d been avoiding his whole life.
Love.

Humans are Space Aliens “Your Planet”
Some of you guys wanted to learn a little more about Krill and his planet. It was a difficult subject to write about, and I think I missed a lot, but this might as well be a start.
As always questions, comments critiques, ideas, messages, and prompts are all welcome. I try to write the stuff that is most requested, so if you want something written its best to request it :)
Descent into atmosphere was as smooth as ever, the atmosphere parted around them under the light of the constant sun-stream. The transport ship rattled maybe once or twice upon entry passing through the rare pockets of cloud that dotted an otherwise open sky. Krill sat buckled into his seat next to Captain Vir, who sat next to a large duffle bag reading a magazine.
All around the transport ship, eyes stared at the strange pair, wary of the towering human. This wouldn’t be the first time humans ventured onto his planet, in fact this would be the captain’s second time, but this would be the first time any outsider would be experiencing an extended stay. Shore leave had come sooner than expected, ad with human colonies cropping up further and further away from earth, it became only fair to let those members of the crew home for a holiday.
Since captain Vir had nowhere to stay, Krill had offered to show the man his planet in more detail. The man seemed pleased and had readily agreed to the idea. The captain had at first wondered if Krill wanted to go back after they had treated him so poorly the last time. Krill honestly did not understand the question, despite their treatment, they were still his species, and he had a duty to return, to be connected, and besides, next to the captain, he wouldn’t seem half so intimidating.
They exited the shuttle near the location of Krill’s hatching, he could see the distant incubation building from atop the landing pad. He ushered the captain follow him quickly, the man got distracted very easily, and he was notoriously hard to rein in. As they went they paused crowds and drew staring. Krill made his way up to the receiving window allowing them to run identification on him.
“Krill, will you be returning to your duties I the surgical suite during your stay.” Vrul asked.
“Yes, of course.”
The Vrul craned his neck upwards at Vir, “And will your friend be staying as well?
Krill nodded.
“Where would he like to apply his services?”
Krill looked up at Vir, and Vir looked down at Krill a confused expression on his human face. Krill wondered for a long moment about that. He knew the man was a pilot, but from what he understood about the human ideas of flying, no one would really appreciate his skill, “Um…. Demolition….. He’s very good at that.
The Vrul gave a curt gesture and sent them off.
Vir looked down, “What was that about?”
Krill looked up at him, “The nature of our species is communal, as long as we are here, we work together for the common good; everyone has their strengths and their abilities, and must apply them for the common good. While I am here I must provide my services, and as a guest you must too.”
Vir tapped a finger on his chin, “Sounds like communist propaganda but ok.”
“What?”
“What?” the human waved him off, “Never mind, I can destroy things, that’s cool.”
“I thought you might think that.” Krill muttered
They walked down the ramp and onto the city street krill pointing out things as they passed by, “That is the seat of the populous council, every seventh cycle we are expected to meet there to make decisions for the city, all of us, it’s mandatory.”
“You have mandatory democracy?”
“Yes? You may not like it, but our system of government is far more effective than yours.”
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t hear you over the sound of my freedom.” The man grinned at Krill who just shook his head.
“Over there are the incubation chambers, ever year after mating season, all the eggs are housed there.”
The man paused, “Uh, Krill, I know that this is us a weird question to ask but….. I don’t think I ever asked if you were you know…. Male or female….. I suppose I probably should have.”
Krill waved it off, “My species doesn’t find those things as important as humans, mostly because we don’t have genders in your sense of the word. Under certain circumstances any member of my species can lay or fertilize an egg. However laying an egg takes much more time, so my work doesn’t allow for it.”
“Wow…. That’s…. that’s really weird…. So you don’t have…. Families?” The human seemed rather uncomfortable at that thought
“Traditionally we never did, but upon meeting other species we were introduced with new ways of doing things. Some of our number choose to raise their own offspring and many choose the traditional method. Either way children tend to be raised by the community.
“How many…. Children do you have?”
Krill gave a small shrug, “I don’t know, could be a hundred could be none, I’m not sure. Thousands of eggs are laid and thousands of them are fertilized, but it take the perfect conditions to hatch and even more perfect conditions to keep the young from dying. We lose hundreds every season, and that’s why many of us choose to do things the traditional way. It’s less painful if you don’t know which one was yours. However, after that you can petition to keep one of the grubs and raise them to maturity, generally everyone who has a job that allows for it must participate. Since my job is so demanding, I have never been asked, and have never asked.”
They stepped off the ramp into the street the human staring at him in wonder and confusion, “So I don’t get it, do you or do you not have families.”
“Depends on your definition. If you are talking about like your family, than you have to understand that my species does whatever makes sense and is logical for the survival of the species. Other species in the galaxy have families like yours, so it is logical to conclude that there is some benefit to doing it that way, so SOME of us follow that line. Others raise children by themselves with the help of the community, and sometimes you pare off with someone you like. Personally, I was raised by two such Vrul, and, as for you definition, I have a few other siblings.”
“So…. With all of that being said, does that mean you…. You could potentially have kids with any of these people.” He motioned around to the passing Vrul and their staring eyes.
Krill laughed heartily like the idea was absurd drawing a few eyes as they moved on, “No, no. As you know our species needs the perfect incubation to grow and thrive, however, there are subperfect incubation that allows for someone to be born, but allows some…. Deficits, most of these tend to be cognitive. Some are no more than children, others cannot understand abstract concepts and so on. Luckily for me, I remain a member of the class with four functioning cortical zones which makes me a member of a higher class. Due to the genetic likelihood of cortical malformation, they generally encourage members of my class to produce offspring together.”
Vir seemed to shuffle uncomfortably, “That seems kind of messed up, that seems like discrimination against the disabled, don’t you think.”
Krill shook his head, “to the contrary, each level is as important to society as the others. None can function without the duties performed by the others, however you need abstract concepts to build rocket ships. Though, unlike humans they are not treated less, and have the same pull in our council as anyone should.”
They passed by another set of staring eyes. Vir scratched the top of his head, “Wow, I never knew that about you guys…. Kind of makes me sound like a jerk doesn’t it?”
He paused, “Speaking of things that will make me sound like a jerk, is there anything I should avoid doing while I’m here.”
Krill snorted, “Probably avoid being human.”
The man snorted and nudged him playfully to the side, “You know what I mean, anything particularly rude or offensive I should avoid doing.”
Krill gave a sigh, “Captain, by virtue of being you, you are bound to scare someone absolutely sh*tless, but if they use logic like all of us do, than they will know that you can hardly help it. For me, on the other hand, it is quite rude to act against anything that is not species specified. The more human mannerisms that I pick up, the more I am forced to regulate my behavior.”
Captain Vir went silent just then, he felt bad for Krill, he didn’t mean to make him something that he wasn’t supposed to be, but what was he supposed to do? He took it as his only real option to watch and learn about this new planet. He had been here before, but now he was more fully able to drink the whole thing in. The sky was a soft pastel orange fading towards pink near the horizon. The ground around was awash strange white stone that glittered with crystal. Distantly he could hear the sound of rushing water, watching as a strange blue grey plant waved languidly from the distance. The distant mountains were a faded purple color.
In the sky two moons glittered.
It was a shocking and strange new world unlike earth in many ways. Compared to earth it was particularly vanilla for a habitable planet. Its weather conditions were downright affable 459 days out of its 461 day solar year. The creatures there were almost as affable as the weather. Due to the climate the idea of competition so rife on a planet like earth was almost nonexistent here. For every ecological niche there tended to be one primary filler of that category, or several who performed different variations of the same thing, never crossing paths.
As for the Vrul, they were also very affable. They had no definable religion as far as Vir could tell other than science and logic. Their society revolved about being a good citizen of the community. Everyone had their job and their place, and everyone was expected to contribute, anyone who could not follow those rules was quickly ostracized.
The buildings were made from the same crystalline stone that lined the streets, though they separated themselves form their surroundings with delicate architecture. The buildings didn’t tend to reach to high towards the sky usually one or two floors. As far as he could tell, transit consisted mainly of floating or walking, anything out of the city was completely public transit.
They didn’t have any form of currency mostly subsisting upon the idea that the most logical way to live involved everyone contributing equally to the societal good. It was a society that humans had been striving for, and failing for, for thousands of years always corrupted by greed. Communal ideations broke down in favor of greed, and the only way to survive in this world was by way of capitalistic ventures.
But there was an undertone to all of this, an ostracism towards the different, and the unknown or the unorthodox. It was subtle, but poignant. Krill may not have seen it, but he was a definite example. Perhaps that’s why Vir was here, because it made Krill stand out less in comparison. But it wasn’t just his human-ness that set him apart, there was something different, something that had already been there, something that had made him leave his planet to become a trauma surgeon and make the illogical decision to join a human ship.
It seemed interesting, that a curiosity, so common in humans, could be so rare in other species.
On this perfect planet, with its logical structure, communal goals, and perfect weather, they were missing something quite profound, love, companionship, joy?
Because you can only find light in the dark, so you can only see joy compared to pain.
Krill was different, Vir didn’t know how to put it into words, but Krill was surprisingly human in his inhumanity, and that made him special.

One of the issues with the canon content. And, no, I don’t make sense. I make sensory deprivation around here. (Extra points if you understand the joke.)
Also, quick note. I am an asshole who shouldn’t be given free rein over my posts. If you want the simple speech then read the
big
text. If you want more of my [very useless] personal thoughts then read text in
italics
and if there are more brackets (Or really, any brackets that are []) then it will be in bold, and it is just to help you read. If you guys want I can repost this as a big chunky bit of paragraphs, but this is actually easier to read, especially if you don’t want to hear my thoughts. I hope I didn’t offend and have a good timezone.
Guys, I think I have figured out one of Sanders Sides issues. Maybe everyone knows this and I’m just ‘I do be idiota’ing again but I haven’t seen many people talk about it.
Sanders Sides is torn between being an accessible
(yes I’m very sorry for all the shit limiting this content from being accessible, from the source material and the fan base, but we can talk about this after this, but I didn’t mean anything unsavoury with that word choice. Anyway.)
way to get information about stuff
(great English Lola)
that concerns people.
It was relatively simple, you would get fed information about how to deal with these issues
(eg: How to deal with cognitive distortions from anxiety. It was put as a easy to palate, non-personal for the viewer, funny debate where the bad guy was defeated.)
and you would learn a little bit of the information. The topics weren’t that heavy and generally also had a root in Thomas. The characters may have had the spotlight but the idea was to teach.
But.
The other thing that is pulling at the series is the fact that Thomas is a nerd. And he couldn’t manage to make a series without a massive, deep lore, relatable and loveable characters and a sort of secret, underlying plot line. The characters had to be good enough to captivate the audience. But they also had to be funny. And distinctive. And they couldn’t be too nice or too mean
(look at Roman, or Janus, or Virgil. Take a long look at some negativity blogs and don’t try to tell me that ‘it’s - fault because (insert weird reason here)’).
Now, when he makes a video, firstly, it cannot be taken well. I mean, at the start of Sanders Sides, people wouldn’t look almost obsessively for issues in the plot. They wouldn’t be chasing demons. Now, no matter what he releases, it is definitely going to be really hated by a fair chunk of his viewership.
(Fun fact: I only learnt yesterday that Remus says “If you really want to challenge your viewership then you’ll need a little help from me.” No this isn’t relevant at all. No, I don’t care.)
Secondly, when you watch the Nostalgia episodes, do you think about the actual message, or do you think about Patton’s repression, Roman’s insecurity, Logan fricking pulling a disappearing act
(Buddy, we would like you in the fricking room. It is not necessary for you to give us chills when you speak through your human.)
and Virgil’s symptoms of a panic attack?
I feel like most of you, if you answered honestly, would say that you cared more about the drama between the characters. You heard the message. You heard the ideas about Moving Forward and looking ahead, and not living in the past, and not repressing emotion, and- BUT, you were more focused on the characters, cooing about the one(s) you love and looking obsessively for flaws in the one(s) you hate. You spent the episodes looking at the pictures in the background change, looking for clues of other sides.
And there have been only a few episodes that don’t have any message that isn’t too useful
(or honestly, I think the first one that comes to mind is the Disney Channel one, which was made to tell news in a more interesting format, but it still managed to have the little one at the end about inspiring others.)
like the Crofter’s videos or the Cartoon video.
(but, the cartoon video has that one, very over quoted line, where Virgil remarks that he’s the bad guy) (And the Crofters videos were to heal Logan stans hearts.)
The rest of the episodes have aimed to do that, present ways to manage problems or situations or thoughts. But they have gotten increasingly complex. You need to do a lot of research and write it up in a way that isn’t plagurism, you need to verify and try not to be *insert ism/phobic thing here*,
(which isn’t to say it’s not warranted, I just feel like he must know he’s treading a dangerous line, and also, people do need to care for what they say and to not be massive jerkwads).
There’s a lot of moral stuff now, and that means swimming through a lot of good ideas and a lot of pretentious bullshit. They still also want to help with problems, like they did
(well, depends who you ask. I personally think that they did pretty well for a complex and varying disorder/condition [some people get annoyed when people call their anxiety a disorder because of panic disorder, diagnosed anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and anything and everything else, so I’ll put down both] on a [generally] kids-friendly channel. In a series that manages to be funny, deep and somewhat like a [really really good, remember the deep bit] soap opera, I feel like they tried their best and made something good. But that’s just my opinion.)
well with anxiety. They tried to do that again with Intrusive thoughts. But, it doesn’t work as well. firstly because there was and is so much going on in the plot, and the fact that intrusive thoughts was almost treated like cognitive distortions was. Like something that can be handled in one episode, something that isn’t as serious as anything else. Which isn’t trying to be dismissive of how fricking horrible intrusive thoughts are, how they make you feel bad, keep you up, make you question yourself, etc, but also, at the time, they had a lot of content they were managing.
However
(yes I’m trying not to say but, considering I’ve already said it 8 times in this thing, you don’t need to call me out like that)
they could have managed. They could have packaged it up into a nicer, cleaner episode, a clean sweep dealing with the issue, the humour and it all, but they don’t. They can’t. Because of Remus. Remus made the episode a lot more complicated. They had to establish a new character, all of his connections and etc, they had to establish all of Remus. His brotherhood with Roman, his weird thing with Virgil. The lore, the lore of the series is what made the episode feel off. They were using one of their more original formats to try to deal with a more complex issue, further along in a precariously balanced series, and then they tried to balance out the lore. Balance out the Remus being Remus with Virgil’s reveal. They tried to make something similar to the start. It didn’t work.
(But, [I did it again] think about it. Let’s compare to the My Negative Thinking video, because for some reason that one keeps coming into my mind. You have established bad guy. [MNT: Virgil. DWIT: Remus.] Your established problem. [MNT: Thomas is overthinking and having cognitive distortions about his work and talent after a rough day on stage and Logan helps him find and combat the cognitive distortions caused by Virgil. DWIT: Thomas {and by extention, most of his sides} are having a rough time sleeping because of a constant stream of disturbing thoughts that are keeping him up, so Logan helps him understand and learn to “accept”* his intrusive thoughts and deal with them, helping the others back off so he can sleep.] Your established aforementioned hero. [MNT: Logan. DWIT: Logan.] But, MNT is around 10 minutes. DWIT is around 40 minutes. The reasons being is that, firstly, in order to set up intrusive thoughts, was going to be harder than with cognitive distortions. Secondly, the plot has evolved, and there are more characters in DWIT than MNT and the format was different. But neither of these things explain why there’s a 30 minute gap between the two. It’s Remus. He’s only established just then, and all the establishing work, from the song, which we love, to the bit at the end with Roman and the Funhouse mirrors is what makes it so long. The original format no longer works, but they tried to use it. Does any of this make sense? Or am I just rambling? I don’t know.)
The lore is too strong to really ignore and the ideas are the idea of the series.
So, why is this an issue?
(this question is here for the people who didn’t understand the rest of my bullshit).
Let’s list some of the problems. (I’m sure there’s more, I just don’t know where.)
Thomas can no longer make content that will satisfy people with enough lore and character in order to keep trying to give us important knowledge on life. I know that at some point your fans won’t ever be satisfied with your content, but this isn’t a “We hate x and y character for a and b reasons.” it’s either; This doesn’t feel right and make sense, but it feels like I sorta learnt something. Or, I don’t understand the message.
In order to fix the above problem a bit of the format would have to be changed or compromised, which is really hard to do.
There can never be the perfect balance anymore. The Sides can no longer be fully in character and have good continuity because the series does not have good continuity. There’s also now going to be a precarious balance in between starting a witch-hunt.
The ideas are important, but people are forgetting or caring less about them. There’s so much research and work that goes into finding them, turning them into a speech, slotting that speech into the script and etc.
This means that as well as uprooting the idea of the series, the story, characters and lore are also making it impossible to create continuous content that follows a specific goal. To introduce new characters you have to do something that isn’t a usual episode or else it will feel forced or wrong.
So. I hope you enjoyed my ramble. This took a lot of time and effort and feel free to add on. I hope I didn’t offend. Also, please someone tell me, does this make sense at all? Anyway.
