Would his own father, would Gavriel, have encouraged the rivalry? He supposed it didn't matter, either. But for a heartbeat, Aedion tried to picture it-Gavriel here, presiding over his training.

His father and Rhoe, teaching him together. And he knew that Gavriel would have found some way to calm the competition, much in the way he held the peace in the cadre. What manner of man would he have become, had the Lion been here? Gavriel likely would have been butchered with the rest of the court, but ... he would have been here.

A fool's path, to wander down that road.

Aedion was who he was, and most of the time, didn't mind that one bit. Rhoe had been his father in the ways that counted. Even if there had been times when Aedion had looked at Rhoe and Evalin and Aelin and still felt like a guest.

i will never forgive the hunger games movie for changing the scene where gale gets whipped from "he was whipped for bringing back turkey he'd hunted to feed his family" to "he was whipped for being Violent" like. so many people's interpretations of gale's character is based on the movies, and that change is a huge one. gale was being punished to punish katniss for her stunt at the games, but he was also being punished for daring to have a hungry family he was trying to feed. and outside of katniss, would that not feed your spark? would that not make you angry and crave retribution against the very government that decided you should be punished for starving? it feels like a deliberate attempt to flatten gale's character to further push the love triangle angle, and i don't like that!

Something I often see in discussions regarding Hiccup wanting to change people's minds, is him trying to change Grimmel's being accepted as a part of the story, and it being used as an example of Hiccup's flaws. Except, if my memory serves me correctly, that never actually happened.

Prior to the final battle, Hiccup and Grimmel have three interactions ; when they first meet, when Hiccup & the gang try to capture him, then when Toothless & LF get taken. Not once, or in any of the few times where he's mentioned outside of his scenes, is the idea of changing Grimmel's mind brought up. Hiccup does not attempt to have a conversation about it with neither Grimmel nor the other characters.

In the third movie, Hiccup's motive to change people's minds and get them on Berk's side was removed. It feels like a bit of retcon, because I don't remember anything about Hiccup saying he's not gonna repeat his mistake with Drago.

idk if this has been talked about before but you know how in HTTYD 2 Hiccup's mom is like "you have the heart of a chief and the soul of a dragon" and that's like The Theme of the whole series like bridges crossing and Hiccup and Toothless' bond and creating a peaceful world and Test Drive as a track etc etc

and I know that it's important for Hiccup to be that for, again, The Themes

but i feel like we're sleeping on Astrid.

this woman is fierce and protective. She throws the first punch so her loved ones won't get hurt. She is a warrior, a fighter. She literally mirrors the journey of the dragons in general in the first movie, where she is constantly ready and willing to attack her enemy until she is given absolute, irrevocable proof that they can be trusted. After that, she is ready to protect them and help them. She is loyal, strong, capable, a total badass. She is a shield and a sword for her family. She will do anything for them. She has the soul of a dragon too.

A hot take I have is that early c!Dream was acting more as a peacekeeper/server moderator and was slowly losing his mind because the server did not gaf about his authority at all. Like he’s the only mod online ever with 0 vacation days and he just loses his shit at the hotdog van before deciding he’s making his inability to herd cats everyone else’s problem

tbh 'authority' is a funny way of putting it like yeah he was the server owner but any explicit authority over what the actual people were doing is ... ehh not super obvious in character you know? c!Dream is a control freak that saw way too much as his responsibility and subsequently tried to manage shit that often blew up in his face--absolutely attempted at being a moderator/peacekeeper figure, but the dream smp kind of laughs in the face of peacekeepers, etc. while i think it's fair to argue that c!dream felt a level of responsibility over the server and its inhabitants that most people just Did Not Gaf, i would also say that his problem is less that people simply didn't listen to him when they should've (though that is ABSOLUTELY part of what pisses mr. control freak with no chill and a stick up his ass off!) and that things would go the extra step of actively fucking with him, consistently, while he was then pretty uniquely labeled as being Fucked Up if he fought back. it wasn't just that there was a hot dog van that was spouting literal nonsense about making a new server and disrupting shit by saying that any noneuropean isn't allowed in, it was that they then used this as a justification to Start Shit and created a bullshit narrative against him and his friends and looked like they were going to go to war over their nonsense. it wasn't just that sapnap and tommy were causing problems for literally everyone in the pet war, it was that he was getting dragged in and targeted for no good reason when he wasn't involved in the initial dispute and then getting blackmailed and having to fight alone for the right to keep his own items because god forbid he keep a memento of his dead pet. yknow ???
