Kuruto Ryuki-AI: The Somnium Files- Nirvana Initiative

Qualifications:

LGBTQ+: He is canonically bisexual (his romantic feelings for another male character are an important part of the plot, and he has a physical relationship with a different character who’s a woman). Disability: He experiences psychotic episodes as well as/possibly caused by PTSD. While I wouldn’t call it perfect rep, the game treats this with surprising empathy—the other characters are only ever gently concerned about him, which ultimately helps him into a place where he can start managing his symptoms. It’s possibly the only video game I’ve ever seen where a character discusses doing inpatient psychiatric care as a serious option that might save his life, not as a threat or a horror level.

CANONICALLY MLM!! Probably bi but they're very vague about whether he likes women. He definitely has a crush on his cringefail male mentor tho <3 And he canonically has hallucinations and dissociative episodes! Also he's missing an eye and uses a prosthetic eye instead, which feels less notable considering the same can be said for at least 3 other main characters in the games, but he's still disabled!!! I'd also argue he's heavily implied to have PTSD considering a lot of his issues come from trauma.

He is clearly Bisexual, based on both his unrequited love for "Mr. Date" (Kaname Date, who I have also submitted), and his attraction to multiple female characters, including the very difficult to categorize relationship he has with the female sentient A.I. "Tama" that is implanted in his Prosthetic left eyeball (referred to in-universe as an "AI-Ball"). Also, quoting directly from the personality section of his article on the wiki (Spoilers ahead for the game AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES - nirvanA Initiative): "Another of Ryuki's defining traits is his difficulties with mental health. Although generally calm and collected, he is shown to suffer some form of survivor's guilt and PTSD; although he tries to channel his grief into determination for his investigative work, he generally does not handle emotional stress well, and is prone to bouts of depression, obsession, deep self doubt, and self-blame. His struggles initially stemmed from the traumatic loss of his twin brother in a traffic accident in pursuit of a criminal, and his dislike of stopped clocks, and his hatred of criminals originates from the same event. (In addition to the propaganda below, I highly recommend that the reasoning for his qualification be included in some capacity for propaganda) Ryuki grew up both rich and highly educated until his parents were killed in a plane crash. He was living with his younger brother until his death in 2014 when he was hit by a truck and half of his body was utterly crushed. The only thing Ryuki has left of his deceased parents is a white Rolls Royce Phantom limousine, which he uses as his primary means of transportation. Ryuki always sits in the back seat, with Tama using the car camera to steer the vehicle remotely. As Tama is an AI, the car is technically classified as "self-driving".

OKAY SO I'VE BEEN TORN BETWEEN HIM BEING A GUY THAT HAPPENS TO BE PRETENTIOUS OR HIM BEING A CULT. But considering the mentions of "other followers" and the general way he talks about his goal of seeing the "eye of the gods" I'm assuming he was in a cult but I don't think it's one we've already heard about (I considered the Order of The Falling Star because it's in the area but that still feels unlikely and the goals don't seem to match)

bring 'em back alive was when i really started to enjoy ketch, so that's fun. it also has insane sam and cas times. when left alone, they just kill princes of hell and rehabilitate traumatized archangels. no big, you know? just dudes being bros

once again, i am THRILLED to see felicia day on my television screen. once again, au!charlie does not hold a candle to OG!charlie. i miss the relationship she had with the boys, i miss hers and dean's friendship. i still maintain that charlie was one of the few people that dean could absolutely be his unfiltered self around. charlie wants absolutely nothing from dean and he trusts her absolutely. in dean's mind, he needs to be a certain way for both sam and cas. he needs to maintain the persona of who he thinks they see him as, which means that he always has to THINK about how he holds himself around them. (of course, sam and cas just want dean to be HIMSELF but dean won't allow himself to see that) so yeah, anyway, charlie doesn't want anything from dean except for him to just BE dean. and i miss her immensely.

cas' irritation with sam over allowing dean to go by himself is right and valid. cas' bitchiness upon finding that dean went with ketch might not be right and valid but it SURE IS FUNNY sam is like "dean wanted to go solo" and cas says "you do understand that your brother is an idiot, correct" or is that not how the scene went

i would KILL to see a scene in which cas tells someone to open up and let the choo-choo in. this is what i DESERVE

Makoto: My boy i love him! I love characters who are just genuinely kind and good-hearted. I love that he gets his strength from caring so much.

Hajime: I rambled about him in the other ask but he's my fave. We love a bisexual cringefail insecure loser, you go king.

Komaru: my beloved!! I love that in a series full of "normal" characters, she really is genuinely average. She reads popular manga. Her favorite music is the most popular pop star in the country. The weirdest thing about her is she likes weird food combos. But she still saves an entire city, even though she struggled the whole time. I think her arc is so great and I love her sm

Kaede: I like Kaede a lot! She really is a bisexual with the Audacity. I love how outgoing and determined she is. And I really think her tragedy in being the killer in chapter 1 really works and is super interesting.

Shuichi: a wet cat of a man (positive). He's great! I also really like his arc. It's definitely the strongest thing about v3 imo.

1. Does your OC have any particular favourite chat up lines? If not for themselves then perhaps ones they have suggested to a friend? How effective do these tend to be?

oh my god zephyr is so cringefail when it comes to things like this. his strategy is to dish out the corniest one-liners known to man, and if they work, fantastic, and if they don't, he can pretend they're just a joke. it's not even a conscious strategy, really just his personality. as you might guess, he is...not the most effective at flirting. it's okay. anyone worth his time will find it endearing.

2. Is your OC particularly skilled at flirting? Have they had to practice this or does it just happen naturally?

as above: no. zephyr is a teen who has little idea how to process romantic/sexual attraction as anything other than "HOLY SHIT," and his words and actions follow suit. he knows articulation isn't exactly his strong point, but he also doesn't want to try to be someone he's not for the sake of another person's attention. for someone who's been through as much as he has, zephyr is able to convince himself to stay positive a surprising amount of the time. he has insecurities, yes, and wishes often enough that he were more charismatic, but at the end of the day he doesn't want to be anyone else.

5. What seduction techniques are most likely to be effective when it comes to your OC? Are there some things guaranteed to get them going? Or are they immune to such things?

zephyr is much more interested in romance than he is sex, so there isn't too much of note for this one. certainly he's not immune to being a bisexual teenage boy, but he's not really horny very often either. ...alya definitely knows how to make him blush, though.

1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?

Kai: The idea of him being That kind of “the traveler is evil guardians are the real monsters the darkness has a point actually” destiny player but like, in-universe. he’s kinda strayed further and further away from that as I’ve gone along, though (and bc of my view that those people are genuinely insufferable 9 times out of 10 in light of recent events)

Caoilinn: Her connection to the Light and the philosophy that Guardians are the Traveler’s champions who must only use it for good, which is also where her ties with the Praxic Order came from. Other than that her entire personality and history has changed from what I first came up with for her and I’m so glad I changed it

Ravan: Oh his backstory, definitely. Also their connection to Calus and his own hedonistic philosophy given that I had wanted for the buckaroos to have more of a connection to Calus than the phoenixes due to [redacted for fireteam phoenix story spoiler reasons]

12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?

Kai: Funnily enough, I have a lot difficulty drawing his hair. I can never get it to look right which is ironic considering that the mental image I have is him having permanent helmet-hair where it’s just going wherever. Also his writing so far has been tough to balance between “this is what he believes” and “this is what he wants people to think he believes” without being too obvious or hand-holding

Caoilinn: Similar to Kai, her writing is often somewhat difficult bc there’s such a disconnect between her own self-image and what she expects from other people/what others expect for her that it’s hard to get that subtext just right. Also her fancy armor is a pain in the ass

Ravan: THEIR COLOR SCHEME FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE HELP ME I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH HIM

14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?

Kai: 1) behind his edginess and contrarianism he actually is concerned for the people of the City, he just hates how Guardians don’t seem to care and think of themselves as above the masses 2) he is most definitely Not Straight he is a bisexual gray-ace fucking disaster

Caoilinn: 1) She is Not Normal. she is unhinged. makima chainsawman if she was even more cringefail 2) her zealotry/superiority complex stemmed from the need to believe in her own significance to avoid falling into hopeless despair from spending decades surviving alone on Mars. her beliefs are her own and not the result of others forcing them onto her unwillingly, although her ghost did have a hand in accelerating her reliance on such beliefs

Ravan: 1) His pronouns are what/thefuck/ever (/hj). go buck fucking wild and contradict yourself in every sentence. no cisgender in sight 2) xe is extremely fatalistic and insecure in their own power behind his debauchery which is how they seek to hide it. she’s not self-centered just to be self-centered, it actually runs a lot deeper than that
