I am digging the gag of "Morgana, you could totally do better," and she for sure could. But there's something sappy romantic (probs their favorite kind honestly, the dramas) that she's not after anyone else and she's not in love with him to fix him. And somehow she's not settling either - like, she could absolutely go and find someone else and I'm sure be very happy with them, but she likes the happy that Darkwing makes her. I have to believe that she likes that they are strong enough individually where they fight and still come back together because they disagree on topics but still love the other person. Even though DW could be better, she loves him and who he's becoming because some of his episodes where he is most considerate and most honest are when he's with her and she gets to see him growing.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, or I'm overly romantic, but I like that they choose each other anyway.

It's not perfection, or settling, or picking up a project, they just consistently mutually choose each other.

first off about the gag -

Second, I completely agree with you! And it's why they're one of my OTPs - both of them are far from perfect, and it's pretty dang obvious, but it's in spite of that that they're totally crazy about one another. From their first episode it's obvious that he's made her a better person (after all, he's turning her from a villain into a hero) but it's easy to miss that she's changing him in turn.

Funny enough, at work I was thinking about the Silvani comics and specifically how they portrayed the relationship. For those not in the know, the storyline starts with Drake having retired from the superhero life and how it affected everyone - including Morgana, who went almost fucking catatonic without him.

Apparently without Darkwing around, she promptly fell apart, and just saw no reason to keep her magic in check... or even her own sanity. When Darkwing returns to heroing and tries to get back with her, it's definitely not easy, as she doesn't even realize he's there.

When he tries touching her, she freaks out and just casts magic on instinct, still without even seeming to realize he's there. She's THAT of a mess without him. It's even shown she abandoned her beloved familiars, Eek Sqeak and Archie! Darkwing continues to try to get through to her, going through their past dates, of all the good times they had together, but nothing is getting through. Then he finally admits what happened to her is his fault.

That's right - narcissist superhero Darkwing, who has been aptly descripted as having the go the size of a small planet, admitted something was his fault. Very few people get that out of him! And I think this whole chapter proves something very near and dear to me. Yeah, he's gaga over her looks, but he's really and truly in love with her.

Of course, being Disney and all that, naturally the tear is what snaps out of her out of it. And here's where it really gets me right in the kokoro, because what do they do when she's finally back to normal? A big kiss, obviously, and then?

DAWWWWWWWWW.

It's one of my favorite panels out of the entire run. Somehow this just... gets to me, way more than a passionate kiss or flowery words of romance. They just look so peacefully content together! I just... wehhhh ;_;

He's a sound sleeper, but he's got a perfect internal clock for waking up. He goes to bed at 10 and is usually dead to the world until like 6 am.

Anita (his ex-wife) was never a snuggly person ("Is it because you were gay the whole time?" "No, but now my wife would cry if i tried to pry her off, so. You lose, old man." "That's fair!") but he is, so now that he's got me he holds on and doesn't let go until it's time to wake up.

He's a good cook and a good gardener!

He planted every single thing in his backyard himself, and it's literally so luscious and full of life back there. Also, I've probably mentioned this before, but he's got an adorable salsa garden.

His cooking mainly goes as far as charming domestic stuff but it ranges into more interesting territory if he can get his hands on certain ingredients.

how smart is your oc f/o? is it academic smarts, emotional smarts, etc? where does your oc f/o thrive and where do they lack?

HE'S ACTUALLY GOT A DEGREE IN ZOOLOGY. That's a little tidbit that's only implied by him being a senior zookeeper, but it's true. He's not like, TOP OF HIS CLASS or anything but he's pretty sharp. The only thing that really threw him for a loop in getting his degree was time management. He's really bad at gauging time.

He's pretty well-rounded about emotional intelligence as well. He learned a lot about emotions and expression from raising Lucy.

Modern culture is a bit of a weak point for him, though. He's hardly tech-illiterate like a lot of people his age (he built his own rig), but social media is a mystery to him. Also trends and other modern -isms but he's hardly insecure about it. He DOES feel bad that he doesn't get a lot of the memes I send him, though.

I think Mabel fits this one best considering that when upright, it's trying to tell you to not take life too seriously. Go out and touch grass have fun! Plus, the original included an animal companion so obviously, Waddles needed to be there!

The World

Supposed to have the same meaning no matter which side it's on, but you can decide that for every reading. Tarot is supposed to be read with your intuition! Anyways, I think the Axolotl fits it the most since it's essentially a god, more powerful than the Jhelsebraum (which is why she's not there. She's just a badass oracle)

The Magician

That one was tricky. I was going to use Fidds but the meaning of the card threw me off, so I decided to go for Stanley instead. All the elements need to be in the card so I think they'll be in the background in this case. He is using them, but not directly in this case. I think it'll work for both meanings!

The High Priestess

NOW I can use Jhelsebraum!! Hehehehe! Not much to say except it fits!

The Empress

I didn't wanna use Mabel again so soon but no other character fits it as well as her! She's nurturing, she's generous, she can be smothering at times. It just fits!! It did mention fertility which was pretty funny, but she already has her baby Waddles! (I so badly wanted her to wear the Huggy Wuvvy Tubby Bundle but it felt too on the nose. Plus, it's hard to draw that while also having her knit, which is not something I wanna comprimise on!)

The Emperor

Hehe cinematic parallels, let's goooo!! The card is all about fatherhood, being strict, and conservative with items. When reversed, it's saying you're being too reckless, or something like that. But it fits Stan! Especially as a boss. Plus, I love having him using the remote as a scepter. As for the orb, which represents the kingdom, I couldn't think of anything. So I went with a soda can. ...I mean, it could represent the fruits of his land which is his fridge soooooo????

The Hierophant

Oh this one was a little tricky, especially since when upright, the card is telling you to embrace tradition. Which is pretty weird for Ford. So I decided to callback a scene where he's passing on knowledge and methods to the kids. Since that's how tradition starts and why it keeps going. Plus, when reversed, it tells you to break tradition. So I think it works both ways!

kieran: yes, always! he's quite the support, in more than just school configuration. emotional support, blade support, etc. he prefers to be the rubber duckie to people's "exploding monsters" problem.

keller: alone, mostly. he can handle it himself. whenever he gets grouped up with people, something ends up going wrong. call it bad luck, or being stubborn as all hell. 🤷‍♂️. hes a solo king

sestiva: lone wolf foreva..... its not that she hates groups is that she thinks doing stuff alone is cooler... also she likes being able to think by herself!

delaney: shes tried both, and she's good at both! she prefers groups, just a bit, because they allow her to be lazy. (yeah, sure, ill hop on your mount and mindlessly kill whenever ever u say, hee hee). also, unlike keller, she's way better socially, so.

kestrel: she prefers group. its hard out here for a solo life wizard :(. also, she gets lonely. no matter how she gripes about being a field medic to dummies, she still gets sad whenever she has to go it alone.

carlos: prefers group, but the dice falls mostly towards him going solo. empryea was like crack the way he was almost always in a group. buddies keep him sane ❤

kieran: his go-to's are floating books or grimoires! in a pinch, though, he won't say no to a regular old staff. books are easiest, though -- reading a passage out that he's designated to summon the creature or item he wishes, letting the energy gather in his hands touching the page, in his head and throat, before casting through even recitation is SO og dnd wizard. he writes so much more down in his spell wand than spells, too -- the only way it still functions as a wand is because of how neat he is about it, LMAO

keller: he hasn't settled into a favorite type of wand yet. so far, if it's creepy, he'll use it.

kestrel: her go-to wand is a hand-me-down from carlos -- a shimmering bow. carlos never took to the precision and power needed to just cast, and seemed to fizzle much more often on it. but kestrel finds bow casting easy! and a great work-out. although, the biggest motivation for her, guiltily enough, is not in finding the best focus, but in the fact that the bow is so pretty....

carlos: he's been using basically the same wand for years! he gets attached easy to stuff like wands and gear. its a little ukelele/guitar thing! it essentially just makes spell casting really easy for him. for a couple of years, he didn't know chords or anything musical: he just knew that strumming the guitar, feeling it in his hands, and responding emotionally accordingly to what he heard created the spell he needed to cast. but nowadays, all grown up and a bit more buckled down, he puts more thought into how he casts, and he actually knows how to play! so he could technically wonderwall your ass back to hell if he so decided, heh

sestiva + delaney also haven't settled on types -- delaney loves sharp or martial weapons a lot, though, while sestiva likes much more artifact-like or less-weapon-y weapons.

the last question has already been answered for carlos! and i have no answers for everybody else yet.

for pirate:

- how does the death of their parents tie into their personality?

wehhhh, well, beau would never admit it, but the event affected basically everything. its the whole reason why their ideal career is now pit fighter -- why beau became a pirate in the first place. not necessarily in imitation of them, but as a consequence of their death. it made them materialistic and overly attached to things like their first, antique rifle (from their dad), and made them more happy go lucky, if only to avoid having to face the whole business internally ever again.

- would they ever trade the life of a pirate for something else?

maybe being a renowned dueler or pit fighter! anything that has to do with scrapping and being super famous for it....

- have they trained into any other classes? why?

nope! not yet.

and to the last question: nope! itd give beau a straight heart attack if yes, though. :( magic freaks.

Wwx almost dies after helping to kill an ancient monster and the only Jiang that actually seems concerned with his health is jyl. Jfm is just like "nice job kid" jc uses him as an emotional punching bag "wehhhh I walked for 7 days to save you" (added donghua scene of him collapsing) and physically hits him as well and yzy busts into his room two minutes after he wakes up from a coma to say that he sucks and his mom was a ho. Fuck.

Yeah, the Jiangs really do put on a terrible showing post-Xuanwu, huh? Exactly one of them shows concern over the fact that he nearly died and two of them pick a fight! Really, the Jiangs were just so fucking good to WWX, just wonderful, how could anyone take issue with their treatment of him.

Like it says something about wwx's inherent kindness and attitudes toward life and other people that he didn't become a bitter husk of a human being with how almost everybody in that family treated him like something to use. JC gets that way without anybody treating him like that lmao.

Yeah! Even JYL saw him as secondary to her Actual Family, and that was the best he got. And yet still he ended up as a genuinely kind and caring person, despite being given every reason to decide "Fuck everyone else, they don't care about me so I won't care about them"! Really, WWX does not get the credit he deserves for turning out so good despite growing up with the Jiangs.

spoilerly-ish dark rise thought dump

i finished dark rise by cs pacat today.... as someone who enjoyed the captive prince trilogy (>_>;), dark rise was pretty good! definitely not my usual fare...YA fantasy is usually a pass for me. i feel like i wouldve enjoyed this book more if i hadnt read captive prince tbh. i was able to predict the big twists fairly easily - the foreshadowing was great and plentiful but i also knew pacat’s modus operandi so i spent most of the time actively expecting it which i think dampened the surprise & enjoyment for me wehhhh

the first 2/3rds of the novel feels very slow and predictable like yadda yadda this is our secret magical history you are our hope our chosen one yadda, but... oh man. after a.... honestly kinda sexually charged stabbing (?) scene is where it really picks up. i was actually pretty surprised at the developments that happened afterwards (also very sad. but read it yourself to find out why) but i was also like oh yes. pacat you would do this to me of course thank you ow

lastly big shout out to james st clair, this book’s baddie blonde b/tch. or as i would like to call him: laurent captiveprince expy (affectionate) he was only in a couple scenes, but every scene with him was a delight and i cant wait to see him wreak more havoc and possibly play a bigger role in the next book

RimWorld Adventures, Ch.2

Life in RimWorld is pretty dicey when you only have three colonists. I had two jacks-of-all-trades, and one person who was just really good at Kill. I was constantly shorthanded and rushing from one emergency to another, mostly building shelter and the first rudimentary freezer and tending to the guinea pigs I had so stupidly tamed before I had food for said guinea pigs. This meant that we were constantly eating berries and raw meat. This is probably why it took so long to win Panther over: we kept giving her raw meat as meals. And I didn't know how to make clothing until hour eleven, which is well over a year in RimWorld time, and even then I didn't have all the supplies I needed. So Panther was naked all of the time and eating garbage and she wasn't impressed, let's just say that.

This is probably why Rad came across as The Best. She never seemed to have a problem. I mean, she thought our base looked like ass, and hated her bedroom, but on she consistently delivered. She didn't know how to build a house, but she fuckin tried. Meanwhile, Mr. Clean and Assassin were constantly on the edges of breakdowns.

"Build a wall," I told Mr. Clean, who had excellent construction stats.

"But Lars turned me down and I hate my bedroom," he said.

"So build this fucking wall?"

"It's dirty."

"Okay, next time you crash land in a forbidding wilderness, you take the fuckin' Febreze, you piece of shit," I said.

So when an escape pod landed nearby with a hapless waif in it, I sprinted to save her. Or, as she probably realized soon enough, I was super excited to have someone to label "Janitor." Oh, and I needed a miner and she actually had a couple of points in the skill and I wanted that so fucking much.

The first time, I accidentally killed the kid by heat stroke because I slapped her bedroom down in the same room as the wood-burning generator. Seriously. I only realized something was wrong when Rad dragged her corpse to Panther because she was going to use her as SUPPER, intending to kill two birds with one stone ("stone" being "madness" and "paralyzing horror," respectively). I started my save over and stuck the poor kid in the dining room. Because nothing is more appealing than a spacecraft-crash victim sleeping in a puddle of blood on the floor. But, I mean. Not a dead spacecraft-crash victim and not cannibalism so SCORE TWO POINTS FOR TEAM RAD.

I noticed that Toni, our newest vict--friend--had crash-landed with beer. We picked it up and stashed it away.

"Score," quoth I. For our poor colonists had been in shitville so long that a little beer actually sounded pretty cool.

Well. Guess why Toni was carrying beer. She had crippling alcoholism. Guess who was totally not prepared for crippling alcoholism. Guess who had to go cold turkey for a case of crippling alcoholism.

In the course of the next few hours, Toni fell into catatonic states two or three times. I was constantly tending Toni, dragging Toni out of the wilderness where she had collapsed, feeding Toni AND Panther AND our newest prisoner. We were essentially feeding six people with the work of three and it was like a kind of tiny hell. And I had done this to myself. And Mr. Febreze was like, "wehhhh why is it dirty."

Bro. Plant the fuckin potatoes and stop being a little twat or I will turn your skull into a drinking cup.

We eventually saved a colonist named "Holmes." She joined us practically at once and I set her to work cleaning. Her first inclination was to put on armor and call Mr. Febreze names, which he absolutely deserved. But all I could think of was the mass murderer HH Holmes, and I thought she looked shifty. I mean, she's pretty and everything, but one of her traits is antisocial. I can't help but feel as though she were thrown off of a spaceship rather than accidentally ejected.

She insulted Mr. Febreze one too many times and he decked her into next week.

After I had finished laughing, I began considering the thought of caring for SEVEN PEOPLE with the work of three. I exited without saving. This was for the best. I had lost track of time and it was FOUR AM.

I can't play this game at night anymore.

Anime LA Friday photos. Tbh I had a really terrible Friday. I got like 3 hours of sleep. I had people insult my jacket and tell me their cosplay looked better. I also had someone just come up and insult Keith and tell me he's "too depressing". I'm not entirely sure why people feel the need to insult strangers and say rude things but it made my con experience pretty negative. I didn't even want to talk to anyone after those two encounters because I was scared of what else would be said to me. I also only got asked for 1 photo so my self esteem took a nose dive but that's something else entirely. Wehhhh.
